Jesse Glines is a former NWT co-Angler and he joins the JMO Podcast to share his experience. Fishing 11 events as a co-angler from 2020 -2023, Jesse has lots of experience to detail in this interview. We cover Jesse's motivations for entering the first few tournaments and then the story progresses to where he is at today, a much more confident tournament angler as he fishes the NWT now as a Pro instead of a Co. There's many reasons why any angler would decide to sign up as a co-angler for an NWT event or even sign up for an entire season on tour. This week we are introducing the new monthly episode series called "One Day at a Time" with special guest Kate Grice Hough. Life can be a struggle and in these uncertain times, a lot of us have struggled with mental and physical challenges. I felt a calling to create this new series of The Woman Angler & Adventurer platform in 2022 to share stories of women who want to tell the story of their challenges with us in order to help others work their way through and find inspiration. You'll no doubt discover a common theme- using nature and the outdoors as a tool to overcome. I first met Kate at iCast back in 2019. It seemed as though she had the world in her hands at that time. She was on track to be the first woman ever to win Co-Angler of the Year for the FLW South Carolina division. It wasn't long after that, Kate was dealt a devastating blow to her health...and it's been a major rollercoaster ever since. I hope you enjoy this new series and that it does what we hope it will do. This week I'm excited to introduce you to someone who only started fishing in the last couple of years, but she's all in. @fancypantsfishing is her Facebook and Instagram handle (go give her a follow!). Her actual name is Kat Jones, and I was thrilled to have the chance to meet her in person while we were down at Logan Martin for the LBAA Classic. It's hard to beat the passion of someone who is new to the sport and has a love for it like Kat clearly does. She's even toying with the idea of trying out an LBAA event or 2 next year as a Co-Angler! Kat came to a couple of our weigh-ins during the tournament and I think the ladies may have made a bit of an impression. Alisa Johnson even brought Kat's kids up on stage with her for her weigh-in, and they got to meet and collect autographs from all the qualifiers. It was a special thing to see! She's been watching our Women's World of Fishing Monday Night Live's with Barbara Harris (to resume next week after I've fully recovered from The Classic), chiming in with comments and asking some great questions as well. I hope you enjoy our conversation! Special Note: HUGE THANKS to all who voted for The Woman Angler & Adventurer as the Best Outdoor Podcast in 2020 by the Outdoor Media Summit. We pulled off another win for the 2nd year in a row. You all are amazing! I go to Colorado next week to accept the award from the 2019 Summit. It was a hot and humid grind, but we all survived and I'm bringing you a quick recap of my experience on this week's episode! I also had a couple conversations from backstage during weight-in on Day 2 with a couple other anglers, Noella Mclaurin and Shannon Wells to share a little bit about their experience. While it didn't end well at all for me, I am happy to say I earned enough AOY points throughout the season to qualify to fish The Classic on Logan Martin in September! That was one of my major goals this season, and with it being my 1st as a boater and all the challenges I had to overcome throughout the year, I am very happy to have made it. Huge congratulations to Pam Martin-Wells who took home 1st place on Cane River and also earned Angler of the Year, and our 2nd and 3rd place finishers Pam Ridgle and Lynda Gessner. Also a huge congrats to Brooke Johnson for earning 1st place on the Co-Angler side, a first for her. Enjoy this recap and stay tuned for next week's episode where I feature Alisa Johnson, another angler who fishes the LBAA Tournament Trail. It was a day of both panic and pride for Anthony Bell, a Wright State University master’s degree biology student who was competing in a national bass-fishing tournament on Lake Champlain in upstate New York. Sept. 23. It was the end of Day Three of the three-day tournament – 30 minutes before final weigh-in – and Bell found himself stranded on the lake when his fishing boat’s propeller was sheared off by a reef. Failing to appear at the weigh-in would cost Bell any chance of finishing among the top anglers in the 160-person field at the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open #3. But the Gods were with him that day – or so it seemed. A competing fisherman picked up Bell and his fish and got them to the weigh-in on time. Bell was the first among the finalists to have his fish weighed. And as the fish of each succeeding finalist was weighed, Bell remained at the top – until the very end, when the last competitor bumped Bell to second place. “I was a little bit disappointed, but I was grateful for the opportunity to be there,” said Bell, who found out later that his second-place finish had given him enough points to make him Co-Angler of the Year. All in all, it was a good day on the water for the 25-year-old Bell, who began fishing when he was 3, has worked for state and federal fish and wildlife agencies, is conducting master’s degree research on fish physiology and is contemplating becoming a professional fisherman.
On show #6 we will have Larry Witt. Larry won the B.A.S.S. Nation Regional Champoinship on the CO/ Angler side. We will discuss what was the key technique and bait that helped him get the win. We will also go in depth with Larry on drop shot fishing. Larry is known around this part of the area as master of drop shot fishing. So make sure you got a pin and paper out to take notes. After that we will have JR Mitchell on. JR is another local guy around Smith Mountain Lake. But also one funny guy. He does Face Book Videos called Beer Talk. Its about random things going on in the bass fishing world. But not only that he is a heck of a fisherman. Maybe we can get him to go in depth on wackey worm fishing. Then after all that If there is more time Josh and James will be talking about the night bite. So grab you a cold one and relax and enjoy the show.
