Inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, today on Fashion Love Stories, I'm exploring the enduring allure of the classic yellow fisherman's raincoat — a piece rooted not in fashion, but in survival, utility, and maritime history. From Norwegian fishermen and the ports of Brittany to Nantucket summers and contemporary New York style, the yellow raincoat has quietly evolved into one of fashion's most recognizable symbols of understated coastal chic.I discuss the original heritage makers like Helly Hansen and Guy Cotten, the romantic American interpretation of seaside dressing, and why this practical garment still feels timeless today.Because the best style pieces are rarely about trends. They are about authenticity, restraint, memory, and the stories clothing carries with it through time.

The question “Why, God?” can hit before your feet even touch the floor. Today I sit with that question instead of rushing past it, using Isaiah 55:8 as the starting point: God's thoughts are not like ours, and His ways go farther than we can see. If you've been asking for a clear explanation or a dramatic rescue, this short morning devotional offers something steadier: a reason to trust even when the story feels unfinished.I also share the true WWII story of Diet Eman, a young woman in the Dutch resistance in The Hague who helped Jewish friends escape Nazi persecution. What began as quietly passing along forbidden BBC war news became high-risk work with underground routes and forged identity papers. Then comes the moment that still stops me cold: Gestapo agents on a train, questions closing in, and an unexpected distraction a brand new plastic raincoat that gives Diet just enough time to ditch the documents that could have meant certain death.Diet was still arrested and sent to prison camps, where she later met Corrie and Betsy ten Boom, so this isn't a tidy story with an easy bow. It's a story about trusting God's ways when you don't get the outcome you wanted, and about believing “My grace is sufficient for you” can be real right where you are. If you need Christian encouragement, faith under pressure, and a fresh way to think about God's providence, press play, then share this with a friend and leave a review. What part of Diet's story challenges the way you think about God's help?We would love to hear your comments. Send us a Text MessageSupport the show

It's not your fault that your words don't get through. Your husband carries something called a shame raincoat. Every affirmation, every positive thing you say hits that raincoat and washes away. Not because your words are wrong. Because the shame keeps telling him he's broken. That raincoat doesn't come off in contact with you. It comes off when he connects with other men who say "I've been there." Not men who make his behavior okay. Men who call him out and make it okay for him to change. In this video I explain why he's isolated, why your words feel ineffective, and what kind of relationships he actually needs to begin healing. This isn't about giving him permission to hang out with the boys. This is about building something he's probably never learned how to do. Jonathan Gonzalez, CEO & Co-founder of Raincoat, takes the reins as guest host to explore one of the most pressing challenges in insurance: the disaster insurance gap. Jonathan speaks with Carolyn Kousky from the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), about the rising economic losses from climate disasters and the need for more inclusive and innovative insurance solutions. Carolyn discusses her extensive research on climate risk management and disaster recovery, while also introducing her nonprofit initiative, ‘Insurance for Good', which aims to bring together policymakers, insurers and community leaders to create practical solutions.  Jonathan and Carolyn dive deep into how parametric insurance, policy innovation and collaboration can redefine resilience in a world of escalating climate risk. Key talking points: The scale of the disaster insurance gap: two-thirds of global disaster losses remain uninsured How parametric insurance tailors solutions to underserved communities and specific disaster needs Affordability challenges and public-private partnerships as key levers for change Using insurance innovation to cover non-property losses, such as lost income or higher living costs after disasters The role of ‘Insurance for Good' in building a hub for education, innovation, and implementation Why regulatory frameworks need to adapt to new insurance models like parametric solutions Inspiring collaboration across sectors, from housing to climate adaptation, to enable sustainable resilience Carolyn's optimism about how partnerships and innovation can address systemic climate challenges If you like what you're hearing, please leave us a review on whichever platform you use or contact Matthew Grant on LinkedIn. For Ada Limón, the 24th U.S. Poet Laureate, poetry is her way of connecting — to others, to ourselves, to our natural world.  Ada's work is deeply personal, inspired by gratitude for loved ones, awe and nature, and her struggles with scoliosis and infertility. In this conversation with the Surgeon General, she reflects on her process for writing, which she says often starts with the simple act of seeing what's around her. When Ada shares her poems, she finds joy in other people seeing their own feelings and life experiences in her writing. In the course of this conversation she beautifully recites two of her poems. “The Raincoat” was written for her mother. The other, “In Praise of Mystery,” is shooting through outer space right now on a NASA aircraft bound for Jupiter's moon Europa. We had the pleasure of interviewing Letdown. over Zoom video!Alt-rock sensation Letdown. returns with yet another captivating and irresistibly catchy track. The Chicago/Nashville-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has unleashed his latest hit-you-in-the-feels single, “Raincoat”, released via Big Loud Rock. The song is the latest offering from Letdown.'s much-anticipated debut album due out later this year. Introduced by a simple percussive beat and the electric twang of a plucked guitar, “Raincoat” storms onto the scene as an anthemic storytelling of roller coaster relationships. Featuring bold, pointed lyrics such as, ‘Apologize a thousand times a week now,' the track gains momentum, steadily evolving into a punk-infused crescendo. Driven by punchy drums, the song is underscored by the roaring of a crowd begging the question, “What did I do this time?”.When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Letdown. revealed that it explores "the bittersweet dance of two individuals trapped in a relationship they both yearn to escape. 'Raincoat' encapsulates the torment of a relationship riddled with apologies yet devoid of solutions, exploring the intricate dynamics of remaining in a situation neither party truly enjoys. It vividly portrays the struggles and contradictions inherent in toxic relationships."The new tune follows the success of Letdown.'s last single, "Hate Myself," which is currently making waves on Alternative Radio as the #1 Most Added Track its first week at the format and climbing to #32 on the Mediabase Alternative chart where it currently sits. This is his second impressive showing at radio with earlier hit, "Crying In The Shower," peaking inside the Top 20 at U.S. Alternative Radio.Letdown. expanded his global audience significantly last year through tours across Europe and the U.S., along with captivating performances at festivals such as Summerfest, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock. Letdown. will be hitting the road this summer performing on the Idobi Radio Summer School tour alongside Stand Atlantic, Magnolia Park, The Home Team, Scene Queen, and Honey Revenge.ABOUT LETDOWN.Letdown. (period included) may have started as a pandemic project for Blake Coddington, but the Chicago/Nashville-based rocker is in a very different place in 2023. Having spent the last three years cultivating a fervent fan base through a number of single releases and emerging as a striking live act — finally bringing his music into the physical lives of his online fans across several sold-out, headlining shows this past year — Coddington is rapidly growing his presence away from the internet for the first time in Letdown.'s short history. The powerful vocals and emotional lyrics over catchy, upbeat drums and guitars originally served as a cathartic way for the songwriter to express himself while working a dead-end job that he hated. But 2022 saw Letdown. being signed to Big Loud Rock and moving beyond his beginnings as a viral, at-home musician. This year, however, represents a whole new start for the vocalist, or as Coddington himself puts it: “It's Season II of Letdown., and it's definitely the biggest chapter yet.”It was just three years ago that he began throwing videos on YouTube expecting to get a few hundred views, yet now he's become a known and respected musical commodity both in-person and online with over 660K followers and 5.5M likes on TikTok, 47+ million views on his YouTube channel, over 100+ million overall artist streams and editorial playlisting from the likes of Spotify's All New Rock, New Noise, Rock Out and Rock Hard.Chronicling Coddington's internal struggle as he searches for answers in times of darkness, uncertainty and self-doubt, his 2023 EP Crying In The Shower features a collection of stadium-sized singles led by the title track that is the perfect example of the wild, emotional ride that Letdown. enjoys taking his fans on. Behind the reactive hook and catchy rhythm, Letdown. navigates listeners through the experience and inner turmoil of trying to get over someone you can't forget. With the release of the EP, Coddington remains thrilled for the development of Letdown. as well as having the opportunity to connect with those who have found solace in his powerful online community. We want to hear from you!
