In today's episode, plein air instructor Chris Kolupski joins us over Skype from the top of the Colorado National Monument. Tim and Jess find out what led Chris to this beautiful (and seemingly treacherous) painting location and his philosophy on how best to develop your artistic skills. Chris Kolupski began painting outdoors as a teenager in the forests of Upstate New York and Canada. After working as a freelance illustrator for five years in Rochester, Chris moved to New York City where he studied portraiture and figure painting at the Art Students League of New York. Instructors such as Nelson Shanks, Everett Raymond Kinstler and Dean Keller shaped Chris's modern approach to painting from life. Chris continued his studies at Shanks's Philadelphia painting school, Studio Incaminatti. In 2004 Chris founded Boxart Street Atelier in Rochester, New York, where he taught drawing and painting for almost a decade. He continued teaching at Gallery 7 Studio, and currently teaches at Pittsford Fine Art. His Realist Painting Course is an intensive 24-month curriculum that teaches modern techniques for controlling hues, values and chroma, the three dimensions of color. When painting indoor portraits, Chris prefers a subdued palette to help him capture subtle skin tones. When painting outdoors, the brilliant light pushes his palette to the widest range of color. He loves hiking and painting rugged landforms like the deep gorges of Upstate New York and the red rock of Colorado and Utah. “There is nothing like painting roaring waterfalls or sun baked badlands. Nothing like the swoosh of a hawk slicing through a canyon updraft as I try to capture fleeting effects of light.” Follow Chris Kolupski: Official Site Facebook Instagram Follow Plein Air Easton: Official SiteFacebookInstagramYouTube To inquire about being a guest or sponsoring the Plein Air Easton Podcast, send us an email at info@pleinaireaston.com. Today Tim and Jess talk with artist Stephen Haynes about his ambitious new art project exploring artificial intelligence and temporary existence, all inspired by his discovery of the website This Person Does Not Exist. Stephen Haynes is a self-taught painter currently living in the greater Pittsburgh area. A lifelong artist, Stephen spent his formative school years among the beaches of southern California, and summers in the mountains of West Virginia. This divided time gave him a diverse outlook and an immense love of the outdoors. Showing his work publicly for over 20 years, Haynes has tried his hand at most art forms at one time or another. In his current work, the artist uses vibrant oil colors, mixed on the canvas, to convey light, shadow and form through thick impasto brushwork, evoking movement and abstract qualities. Zufar Bikbov is a long-time Plein Air Easton juried artist, winning awards nearly every year. Tim and Jess talk to Zufar about the trajectory of his career as an artist and a doctor and how the two paths intersect. Zufar's interest in painting came early in life from the influence of his father, a well-respected specialist in engineering. His father's dream to become an artist could not be realized in post WWII Soviet Union during Stalin's regime era. Being accepted to Nicolai Fechin Art school in Kazan (Russia), he had to switch to the school of Engineering and Architecture. “My dad never pushed me into an art career”, recalls Zufar, “however, albums of my father's watercolors and a library of Russian Fine Art at our home, along with my father's paints and brushes – this environment became fertile soil for the seed of my artistic talent to grow." Today Tim and Jess interview long-time Plein Air Easton artist, Sara Linda Poly. This year she won a Judge's Choice award at the festival for her work All is Quiet Now. Sara Linda Poly, originally from the Philadelphia area, studied at university in PA, VA, MD., and with local and national artists. Sara's past experience includes illustration and design and work as assistant gallery director at the Art League Gallery, in Alexandria, VA., where she is now an instructor. Known for her sweeping skies and dramatic light in the landscape, she has been the winner of numerous awards and a participant in many regional and national shows. Good Morning, Colorado, and welcome to the Daily Sun-Up from the Colorado Sun. It’s Monday May 24th, and we’re feeling lucky to start the day with you. Join us daily for an in-depth look at one of our top stories. Today -- The legislative session is coming to a close, but Colorado Democrats still have many major unresolved goals. In fact, there are around 250 pieces of active legislation making their way through the Capitol. Measures on gun control, healthcare, police accountability, marijuana regulations and much more are all on the table. Before we begin, let’s go back in time with some Colorado history adapted from historian Derek R Everett’s book “Colorado Day by Day”: Today we take you back to May 24th, 1911 when President William H Taft used the Antiquities Act to declare a vast tract of stone formations and canyons in Mesa County as the Colorado National Monument. The monument owes its existence to a key advocate, John Otto. Now, our feature story. Thanks for listening. Finally, here are a few stories you should know about today: A Denver police sergeant has resigned almost a year after one of his friends used the officer’s personal gun to shoot two people. Michael Close opened fire on Isabella Thallas and Darian Simon after an argument about the couple’s dogs. Thallas died and Simon was wounded, and Close has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Sergeant Dan Politica had notified the department prior to the shooting that his AK-47 rifle was missing. https://coloradosun.com/2021/05/22/isabella-thallas-dan-politica-killing-gun/ Colorado’s workforce numbers from April surpassed pre-pandemic participation even as the state’s unemployment rate stayed at 6.4% for three months. Roughly 50,000 more people were either looking for work or started a job last month than the February 2020 numbers, according to the state labor department. But not all industries are rebounding at the same speed, with finance, insurance and construction all slower to rally. Colorado is among the group of states opting to continue federal unemployment benefits until the program expires on Sept. 6. https://coloradosun.com/2021/05/22/colorado-jobs-unemployment-work-labor-shortage/ For more information on all of these stories, visit our website, www.coloradosun.com. Broadcasting from Grand Junction near the majestic canyons and plateaus of the Colorado National Monument, this 40 minute podcast takes you deep inside Colleen's own etherial sanctuary. She builds a sound healing room with stained glass doors, a vibro-acoustical sound healing table, an alter with over 100 tuning forks and adds to it anything else consecrated and directed to be put inside this "etherial operating room." Built exclusively to serve as a tunnel of unconditional love, Colleen describes the space as sacrosanct and incredibly peaceful beyond words. Through the vibrations of certain music, the vibroacoustical sound healing table, the drum and the tuning forks, "her guides" would call out the frequencies to use for healing. Each person was different and yet the same as every human cell in every human body, responds to the frequency of sound. It was just a matter of the right combination to heal the memory of those cells and what had happened to them. Each person who came for sound healing was like a beautiful instrument ready be tuned and healed. Colleen will tell you that every single human being on this earth plane has their own built in antenna and is "God wired". All you have to do is listen. Surrender your Ego body and ask for the healing Light. It is your divine right and the safest place to be!

Here it is, Episode 008 of the Podcast. We cover a lot of ground this week, including a couple of reports from Kitchener, ON Canada, and the headquarters of Roadtrek Motorhomes, But along with reader feedback, a review of a great tech gizmo for RVers, some Q&A about batteries and our bucket list destination of the week, we also take an in-depth look at the growing phenomenon of workamping. [spp-player] Here are the show Notes for Episode #008 of Roadtreking - The RV Lifestyle Podcast: This week we look at.... A new RV about to be debuted on the Ram ProMaster chassis This unit will be officially released at the Recreational Vehicles Industry Association annual trade show the week after Thanksgiving. But you can hear a description of the one I found under construction at the factory last week. To see it, here's my video of the new Roadtrek to be built on the Ram ProMaster chassis. Cool flashlight technology perfect for campers on dark and stormy nights The Nightstick is one uber cool flashlight. And this coming from me, a bit of a flashlight junkie. I love flashlights, especially the new high tech ones using LED bulbs. This one s perfect for boondocking. The Nightstick is a dual-light flahlight. It has a CREE LED rated at 130 lumens along with with a high-efficiency deep parabolic reflector. This creates a flashlight beam with an effective range of almost 600 feet, or 181 meters Additionally, built into the handle is a 110 lumen floodlight. Unlike the flashlight beam, the light coming out of the floodlight does not have a reflector so the light spreads out in a wide, even, unfocused pattern of light...perfect for lighting up things that are close. Additionally, both the flashlight and the floodlight can be turned on at the same time for even more versatile lighting options. The waterproof design, in combination with an impact and chemical resistant engineered polymer housing, make these tough little lights, one of the best values around. Additionally, the integrated magnets located in the base of the handle and the pocket clip, provide for almost limitless hands-free usage. Like I say, it's perfect for a dark and scary night out boondocking somewhere. The company that makes them has given me five that I in turn can giveaway. They'll go to the first five people who email me. If you're not one of the five, you can get it through my affiliate link with Amazon for $32. Workamping: Working while your camping. Is it for you? In our Roadtreking interview feature this week, we talk to Steve Anderson, who runs Workamper.com, which is dedicated to matching employers with RV workampers. As Jim explains, Workampers are adventurous individuals, couples and families who have chosen a wonderful lifestyle that combines ANY kind of part-time or full-time work with RV camping. If you work as an employee, operate a business, or donate your time as a volunteer, AND you sleep in an RV (or on-site housing), you are a Workamper. As many as half a million RVers fit that definition. What do you need to do to get such a job? How much does it pay? What sort of work is involved? We answer all these questions and more. Bucket List Destination of the Week This week, Jennifer and I profile the Colorado National Monument, It is nothing short of stupendously beautiful, a long stretch of spectacular rock monoliths cut deep into the sandstone and even granite rock formations that make for sheer-walled, red rock canyons following the undulating twists and turns of the Rim Rock Drive that traverses up and down and through the preserve for 24 miles. We tell you what to know about this awesome place, including where to stay and what you'll see. But Wait, there's more Among other topics we cover in this episode... Some pesky bears at Yosemite National Park that are being affixed with GPS collars A plan by Glacier National Park officials to raise their admission and camping rates for 201 What to do when your coach batteries won't hold a char...
