“I think my very initial emotions straight after the race was one of a little bit of disappointment. I really backed myself this championship to come in and felt for once I was coming onto the global stage thinking, ‘I have a chance at a medal' so I was going to grasp that with both hands. I was a little disappointed but after chatting with my team around me, it will settle and I'll realize just how phenomenal fourth in the world really is…It's definitely sinking in and I'm very proud of that fourth place finish. “Personally, it's always been the mission… We're willing to be patient. But we're also very keen on what the mission is. It's not to stop at championships. It's not to stop at fast times. It's not to stop at American Records. It's not to get content. We are here to completely push the boundary every time. I'm very vocal about that...I've posted what my time goals are for the World Championships. I'm here to run 9.65 and I'm here to run 19.10. The crazy thing is it causes so much controversy. Why should my dream or belief cause controversy with you? It has nothing to do with you. If I don't get it, and if I do get it, how does it change your life? So many people want to have an opinion on it. And so many people want to tell me what I can and can't do. But you know what they can't tell me? What I ran in practice yesterday. And I bet that's the information you need to know if I'm going to actually run it or not.” Two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Noah Lyles jins the CITIUS MAG Podcast to break down all of the biggest revelations in his new two-part documentary series with NBC Sports. "Untitled: The Noah Lyles Project" premieres on Friday, August 18 exclusively on Peacock. We managed to get an advanced look at the documentary and were able to record this interview before the series debuts. At the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, Lyles will attempt to defend his 200m world title and has been open about the fact that he is trying to break Usain Bolt's 200m world record. The documentary follows him in training, at the New York City Grand Prix, the U.S. Championship and Paris Diamond League. Part II of the documentary series will follow him through the World Championships and will air on Friday, September 15 – one day before the Diamond League Final at Hayward Field in Eugene. "This is a lesson to all people out there to keep the faith. Sometimes even though what you think you might want, might not be what's for you. As my mother always said to me, 'What's for you won't pass you by.' Sometimes we just need to have a little patience. And sometimes that patience can not just be weeks or months but it can be years. I've always thought I'm meant to be in the sport. I have to be in the sport. That's not being egotistical. It's good to have passionate people in this sport. That's what we need. I feel like I can bring that and I'm so grateful now that I can bring it through CITIUS." David McCarthy is CITIUS MAG's Europe correspondent right now. We've had him at On Track Nights in London and Paris. He was at the Paris and Florence Diamond League. He secured interviews with Jakob Ingebrigtsen and his father Gjert, which have taken off on our YouTube channel but you'll also be able to listen to within this episode. His passion for track and field has made him an instant match to work with us at CITIUS. The athletes have seemed receptive to him. The fans have enjoyed watching. I figured I'd give him a proper welcome to the team and have him share a bit of his own backstory on the podcast since you'll be seeing and hearing much more from him on CITIUS MAG's channels.
