Gary discusses more recent craziness coming from politicians and celebrities about transgenderism and sports. Proving that they are completely out of touch with the vast majority of Americans, these people are saying downright crazy stuff... and then repeating it. It's no longer forgivable as "political" speech; it is just pure insanity.

In the small, isolated Nevada town of Perfection, two aimless handymen Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) were just minding their own business working their latest gig when they suddenly discover strange things occurring....including the inexplicable death of some one who has hidden way up on a light pole in the middle of nowhere. What were they afraid of....something on the ground....or underground perhaps? :o Well as it turns out, this town has been invaded by large, strange creatures travelling underground....and what results is a wild adventure which might be described as "Jaws on Land." Ron Underwood (City Slickers, Heart and Souls) directed this now beloved cult classic which first under-performed in theaters back in 1990 but has since spawned several sequels and even a TV spin-off. It also starred Michael Gross, Reba McEntire, Finn Carter, Victor Wong, and....some very nasty sand-worms?Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The fallout from the riots continues, with Met Police Commissioner, Mark Rowley responding badly to a question on two-tier policing. Marina and Jemma discuss how this term came about and why the hell Elon Musk is adding to its use with his inevitably viral tweet: #TwoTierKier. Give the state of his X platform and what does/doesn't constitute a violation, he may want to look closer to home...Then it's onto Tommy Robinson, who has been unable to understand the lack of sympathy after his hotel location was doxxed by the Daily Mail. Worry not, some wonderful people on social were very quick to let him know...Jemma and Marina touch upon the heartbreaking turned heartwarming stories of Mohammad and Brendan who had their business and car destroyed, and the incredible power of the human spirit. Speaking of which, the Olympics continues to dazzle, with a certain pole vaulter capturing the attention of many, and Kamala Harris may have picked herself the most fabulous running mate with an impressive track record and a sense of humour to boot...Links to Go Fund Me for:Mohammad's cafe to be rebuilt:https://www.gofundme.com/f/rebuild-belfasts-bash-cafeBrendan to get a new car:https://www.gofundme.com/f/carers-car-burnt-during-middlesbrough-riots-while-at-workThank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcastPatreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcastYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawlTwitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastCreated and Produced by Jemma Forte & Marina PurkissEdited by Max Carrey

The sixth day of track and field at the Olympics was another huge one for Team USA! Quincy Hall claimed the 400m gold medal while Kenneth Rooks shocked the world with a silver medal finish in the 3000m steeplechase. As the events roll on, it's clear that the American athletes are making a big splash and setting the stage for an exciting finish to the Games. In tonight's edition of the Torch Talk, the team breaks down… – Quincy Hall won the Olympic gold in the 400m at Paris 2024 in 43.40, making him the 4th-fastest man ever. Brit Matthew Hudson-Smith took bronze and Muzala Samukonga of Zambia took bronze. This was the fastest 400m race in history, as five men dipped under 44 seconds. – Soufiane El Bakkali became the first man in nearly 100 years to successfully defend his Olympic steeplechase gold, winning with a time of 8:06.05. Kenneth Rooks won silver with a big PB, and Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya won bronze. – Nina Kennedy won the women's pole vault at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clearing a height of 4.90m. Her gold is the first at an Olympics by an Australian female vaulter. Reigning Olympic champ Katie Moon finished in silver, and Alysha Newman broke the Canadian record to win bronze. – Roje Stona of Jamaica set a new Olympic record with a 70.00-meter throw, earning the gold medal in men's discus in Paris. This marks Jamaica's first gold medal at the Paris Games and the nation's first-ever Olympic gold in men's discus. – In the 110m hurdles semifinal, Grant Holloway posted the fastest time of the day at 12.98 seconds. American athletes Daniel Roberts and Freddie Crittenden also advanced to the final. Keely Hodgkinson has her Olympic Gold. The pre-race favourite delivered under pressure with a commanding front-running performance to secure an elusive global title. We discuss the race pattern that delivered the gold with big margins behind, and explain why it suggests a lot more to come from Hodgkinson. Beatrice Chebet outclassed Faith Kipyegon in the women's 5000m, in a race marred by a clash between Kipyegon and another pre-race favourites, Gudaf Tsegay. Mondo DuPlantis did Mondo things, winning relatively comfortably and then ticking off an Olympic record followed by another World Record in the Pole Vault. We dissect those performances, and wrap up the Artistic Gymnastics where falls and drama were the order of the day, as well as Gareth's new found Olympic love, Canoe Slalom Cross.Join DiscourseIf you're enjoying of Paris Daily podcasts, and generally love sports science, consider a small donation to become a Patron of the site, and get access to our Discourse community, where you can join like-minded fans and sports enthusiasts to keep the conversation going. Jen Gabe & Chewy star the 2nd hour of the show discussing Evan Cohen's comments from Jim Matt and Molly on ESPN Madison where he said that Jordan Love is better for the The Green Bay Packers than Aaron Rodgers would be. Do you expect Jordan Love to have a better season than Rodgers, or are we all counting the old man out? An Olympic Pole Vaulter from France had an unfortunate mishap in the Olympic Trials created by his unmentionables. Why was Patrick Mahomes voted 4th in the NFL Top-100 by other players? Is every list without Mahomes #1 overall invalid?

Back in the 1700s a group of Romans decided to put on a Poetry Olympics, where the winner was the person who was the best at stringing together a poem or winning a debate.
With nearly 50 years of experience coaching high-level athletes, including Olympic Silver Medalist Raven Saunders, you would be hard-pressed to find someone more knowledgeable than Coach Herbert Johnson. I'm incredibly grateful that he graced us with his presence to help me break down some of the marquee events of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris! We start things off with the Women's 100m. American Sha'Carri Richardson looks to cap off an incredible comeback story by bringing home the Gold. But, as always, the Jamaicans have something to say about that. We discuss the differences between Richardson and Shericka Jackson's skillsets plus the odds of sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to once again find the podium. The Men's 100m has its own USA-Jamaica rivalry. Noah Lyles is one of the most polarizing figures in the sport, but also one of the most talented. Can Jamaicans Kishane Thompson and Oblique Seville silence him? Or will Italy's Lamont Jacobs show the world once again why he's the reigning 100m Gold Medalist? Coach Johnson also talks about how the physiology of sprinters has changed over time. Then, we move on to discussing the potential of world records falling. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's lowered her own 400m hurdle world record at the US Olympic Trials. Can she do it again? Or will Femke Bol prove that Sydney has more to compete against than just the clock? Also, Sweden's Mondo Duplantis is the king of the Pole Vault. Coach explains what makes him so great and what has to happen for him to once again set a world record. We finish up with the Women's Shot Put! Coach Johnson discovered Raven Saunders as a high school freshman at Burke High School in Charleston, SC. As their coach, he helped guide Raven to the National High School record in the Shot Put. They have once again teamed up heading into this Olympic Games as they look to recreate that magic. Coach Johnson talks about why Raven is his favorite to bring home the Gold but also breaks down why the other athletes will make it a tall task. We also have a conversation about his coaching philosophy, including his years coaching me! My guest today worked for Club Med from 2018 to 2022. Her first season was in Club Med Sandpiper as a Teen Club G.O. She held other positions such as Fitness, Landsports, Sailing, Circus, Events and Animation, and Sports Manager. Before Club Med, she attended the University of New Haven and earned a Sports Management and Nutrition and Dietetics degree. While at university, she was on the track and field team, competing in the Pole Vault! Fun facts: She was born in Sydney, Australia, and moved to the United States in 2001. Her name means “laughter” in Aboriginal, and she has competed in American Jiu-Jitsu and Gymnastics. Please help me welcome, the one and only, Keira Mezei! Keira's journey to Club Med is unique. For much of her youth, Keira attended summer camp in the Poconos. She met her best friend there (who is from England) and when they both aged out of camp, they promised to meet in a different country around the world each year. Her friend came up with the idea to apply to Club Med to be able to work and travel at the same time. Keira also worked at the Club Med villages of Turks and Caicos and Sandpiper and has fond memories of her time there. Keira learned to sail in Club Med and became proficient at certain circus show acts such as Double Hammock, Lyra, Rings, and Chains. Keira is a massive bundle of energy and positivity with an infectious laugh, so I know you will enjoy this episode! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes.
