Shakespeare's Birthday Month continues with Part Two with our conversation with Dr Edel Semple from University College in Cork, Ireland, and Dr. Ronan Hatfull from the University of Warwick, talking about Shakespearean Biofiction onstage, screen, and this week on the page, too. We share love for both Hamnet the novel by Maggie O’Farrell and Hamnet the play (by Irish companies Dead Centre and the Abbey Theatre); brushes with greatness (in the forms of playwright Edward Bond and comedian Eddie Izzard); and we discuss all the big questions: how intimidating it can be putting words into Shakespeare’s mouth; how biofiction can speculate realistically or fantastically about where Shakespeare’s genius comes from; whether Shakespeare is, in fact, worth it; how Shakespeare compares to Leontes in The Winter's Tale; how we can avoid spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier; what's amazing about Lauren Gunderson’s The Book of Will; and, amazingly, the good things in Roland Emmerich’s film Anonymous. (Pictured, clockwise from top left: Laurie Davidson as the title character in the miniseries Will; Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell; Austin Tichenor as Richard Burbage in Lauren Gunderson's The Book of Will at Northlight Theatre, photo by Liz Lauren; and Kenneth Branagh as William Shakespeare in All Is True.) A panel discussion as part of the ‘Sonic Spaces' series. A rise in the number of sound-focused cultural productions is one of the key trends to emerge in the performing arts in recent years, including the reworking of various literary works and figures in the direction of sound and music centred experiences. How do artists and practitioners adapt written works into coherent listening experiences? What principles of sound design guide the development of creative soundscapes for the performing arts? A panel of established creative practitioners discuss these and related issues: Evangelia Rigaki, Head of Music at Trinity, who will discuss her installation opera This Hostel Life (Irish National Opera, 2019) based on Melatu Uche Okorie's book of the same name; Kevin Gleeson, a prominent sound designer for theatre and film, who will discuss recent collaborations with Dead Centre (Hamnet, Beckett's Room, To Be A Machine); and Nicholas Johnson, Associate Professor of Drama at Trinity and co-founder of the Samuel Beckett Laboratory, who will discuss his recent dramaturgical work on Beckett's Room, a sound-focused play and co-production of Dead Centre and Gate Theatre. The panel will be chaired by Ruth Barton, Head of School of the Creative Arts at Trinity. ‘Sonic Spaces' is organised by Jennifer O'Meara, Department of Film, as part of the Creative Arts Practice Research theme. It is supported by the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute.

Dead CentreNot All Suicide Bombers Are Religious!byOwen JonesFor immediate release:Author's new book receives a warm literary welcome.Readers' Favorite announces the review of the Fiction - Action book "Dead Centre" by Owen Jones, currently available at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1499121628.Readers' Favorite is one of the largest book review and award contest sites on the Internet. They have earned the respect of renowned publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Harper Collins, and have received the "Best Websites for Authors" and "Honoring Excellence" awards from the Association of Independent Authors. They are also fully accredited by the BBB (A+ rating), which is a rarity among Book Review and Book Award Contest companies."Reviewed By Anne-Marie Reynolds for Readers' FavoriteDead Centre – Not All Suicide Bombers are Religious by Owen Jones is a different take on a hot topic of conversation. Tony, a terrified soul, walks into an upper class department store in Baghdad and just seconds later, he detonates the bomb strapped to his body. The Iraqi government first treat it like any other suicide bomber and the case is passed over to Captain Allawi. Things are not what they seem, though. A young police officer spots something on the store's surveillance video that changes the game plan, taking the investigation off on a tangent. Six more apparent suicide bombs go off, which cannot be explained unless they are treated in the same way as the Baghdad bomb. A new form of terrorism is taking over the world and it could be unstoppable. Possible breakthroughs get them nowhere and it's all looking hopeless until the Chinese government and the SAS are called in.Dead Centre – Not All Suicide Bombers are Religious by Owen Jones was a great read. A well written thriller that starts off on top gear and stays there all the way through. The scary thing is this sort of event could happen – could be happening now for all we know – and the subject is likely to get one or two backs up. However, subject aside, Mr. Jones has written a superb story, with great characters, that spans 9 different countries and dozens more cities. Excellent book, I will definitely be looking out for more from the same author."You can learn more about Owen Jones and "Dead Centre" at https://readersfavorite.com/book-review/dead-centre where you can read reviews and the author's biography, as well as connect with the author directly or through their website and social media pages.Stop Press: Now available in Portuguese, and as an audiobook, and coming soon in French, Italian, and Spanish. 20 years ago, you wouldn’t be traveling to the destination for this episode. Northern Ireland – and specifically Belfast – was ground zero for a nationalist conflict known as The Troubles, a decades-long bloody conflict between Loyalists determined to defend their British heritage, and Republicans seeking a united Ireland. But since the late 90’s, Belfast and Northern Ireland have changed, and our guest today is the perfect person to walk us through that evolving peace process. Paul ‘Donzo’ Donnelly is a history teacher by trade, but that barely scratches the surface. He’s been a mediator between Loyalist and Republican groups in Northern Ireland, working on dialogue projects between Loyalist and Republican ex-prisoners to help facilitate peace since the ceasefire. Donzo now leads Dead Centre Tours – Belfast’s #1 walking tour – taking participants first-hand through the history of The Troubles, while including the other cultural elements that make Belfast as unique as it is edgy, from sports to punk rock. I met up with Donzo at The Garrick Bar on my latest Europe trip, an old Victorian-style Irish pub near Belfast’s City Centre. Grab a pint of Guinness, and pull up a chair for this big conversation. After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave a comment and sign-up for the monthly “Brewsletter.” Cheers!

Athlone, a town situated on the banks of the River Shannon, literally in the middle of Ireland is about to get a new brewery. It's first brewery in many many years. Dead Centre Brewing, quite a clever name, and nice clean branding too. We got to sit down with Liam Tutty, founder of Dead Centre brewing, to discuss his plans for opening a brewery in Athlone, his background and of course get a taste of their new Session Pale Ale, which was launched in The Malt House that evening. After our interview, we got to see the plans of the new brewery, and to say it's ambitious would be an understatement, but it could very well be a template for similar across Ireland in similar sized towns.  It's clear Liam believes strongly in local business, and supporting local as much as possible. We look forward to following his progress over the coming weeks and months. Give them a follow on twitter here , instagram , and their website here
