Song: Lord Bring Me Down From This MountainSong by: Dorothy NorwoodPhoto: Picture taken by Gail Nobles of cassette Manufactured by: Paula RecordsUsage: Fair UsePodcast vocals: Gail NoblesKeyboard and drum sounds: Gail Nobles(Intro)Dorothy Norwood is another great gospel singer and songwriter. She began touring with her family at the age of eight., and 1956, began singing with Mahalia Jackson. In the early 1960's she was a member of the Caravans, and in 1964, she went solo recording her first album.Lord Bring Me Down From This Mountain is a single from Dorothy's 1976 album. There's a lot of great songs on that album, and Lord Bring Me Down is my favorite.Gospel music then is no ways like Gospel music today. In the beginning, it had its own style of music. Now many styles are added. In the old days, Gospel music had its own sound, and it was played differently. And now, it sounds like other Genres. Gospel rap, gospel rock, and so on. The old style hasn't always been easy for me to sing and play like I've always wanted to. There's something about it. And whenever it was played, it had to be done right. You had to sing it right. The old days were strict. Getting back to Dorothy Norwood, she has been singing for a long time. She's one of the best. She's someone you can learn from. You're listening to a show about The Gospel Greats, and I'm your host, Gail Nobles. You can hear Dorothy Norwood's “Lord Bring Me Down On This Mountain” on YouTube. PASTOR CHERRY IS HERE WITH NEW MUSIC.Nah-Tarsha Cherry, at the age of three got on the stage with her mother and other adults upon the discovery that God had blessed her with a voice. This gift was undeniable to everyone around her and she went on to hold soprano in her mothers' various gospel groups and choirs. By age ten, Nah-Tarsha performed with Gospel legends such as the Oneal twins and backing up Savoy recording artist Dorothy Bloat and Dorothy Norwood. She went on to receive a standing ovation at Harlem's famous Apollo by the time she was ten years old.Nah-Tarsha had entered a junior high performing arts school continuing her exposure to different genres of music and also performing at venues such as the Cotton Club, The Savoy Manor and the Sweetwater's Supper Club, having backed up TV actress Charnele Brown from the TV series “A Different World”. Although her first love was music, by the time she had turned fifteen years old she had taken an interest in acting and was an extra in the motion picture “Lean on Me”. In High School she went on to create a gospel choir and that year received an achievement award for the town of Southampton, New York. After attending “five towns college,” a music college based in Long Island for a year she continued allowing God to use her voice and the anointing that he had placed in her.In 1998 she got her first starring role in the off-Broadway gospel play “After All These Years”. She also went on to record several albums with her mother, which earned some airplay, and in 2006 was a part of the “Bobby Jones Gospel Summit 2006”. During this time Nah-Tarsha started to become clear that God was calling her into the ministry and in 2007 finally answered her call. God has seen fit to take this woman into the next level of her ministry. As she continues to be a blessingto the body of Christ, there has never been an audience that has not experienced that when she opens up her mouth, God truly has his hand on her. She sings with passion and conviction and is sure to be infectious to all that are around. In the words of the artist “Only what you do for Christ will last.” In 2011 her EP “Glad” was released receiving airplay in New York, Maryland, and California. In 2013 Nah-Tarsha Cherry released her new single “Strong “on iTunes, Google play and Amazon mp3 as well as a music video which can be seen on YouTube and Gospel Video TV and her commercials appeared nationally on BET and the OWN network. In 2014 Nah-tarsha Cherry was featured in the April/May issue of Gospel USA, in an article named CHERRY ON TOP. Welcome to the 2nd Season of Black Cancer! I'm creator and host, Jodi-Ann Burey. Before we get started, I just want to thank you so much for being here. Seriously. This podcast is about you. It's about giving yourself the space to maybe see yourself and your own experiences in new ways. It's about finding new language to support the people you love. It's about creating new spaces of vulnerability for us as Black and brown people to be ourselves. Imagine. So thank you for taking the time to be you. Our guest on today's show is Janice Omadeke, the Founder and CEO of The Mentor Method, who found herself accelerating her business and managing the grief of her mother's passing to pancreatic cancer at the same time. In this episode, we talk about our duty as the children of immigrants to actualize more than what our parents dreamed of for our lives, how we at times must split ourselves to be strong, and arduous, but necessary processes of grief. Gospel singer and choir director Kevin Lemons has made a name for himself as musical force to be reckoned with. Considered to have one of the most dynamic choirs known as Higher Calling, Lemons brings a uniquely yet powerful sound that captures the energy, flare and spirit in song and performance. Lemons drew inspiration from other gospel performers including Milton Brunson, Thomas Whitfield, James Cleveland, Rev. James Moore and the great O'Landa Draper. Lemon's soulful and dynamic sound has been instantly recognizable in the gospel industry and is showcased here on his debut release. Biography: Kevin S. Lemons, son of the late Wilbert and Ruth Lemons, was born into a great legacy of vocalists, musicians and directors. His grandmother, Mrs. Annie Ruth Lemons, is the founder of the legendary Atlanta Masonic Choir which was organized in 1942 and still exists today. Kevin's father, Wilbert, was an accomplished director and his mother, Ruth, an accomplished lead vocalist. Needless to say, Kevin's path would undoubtedly be one filled with music. A noted director, choral and instrumental arranger, gifted vocalist and skilled musician, Kevin S. Lemons exemplifies greatness by every measure of the word. With a strong conviction for biblical principles and righteous living, Kevin's parents reared him in a God - fearing home and encouraged his involvement in church at a very young age. In church and on travels with the Atlanta Masonics young Kevin was affording the opportunity to develop himself as a musician, singer and director. Asked how much he was impacted by his introduction to gospel performances at a young age he responds 'those experiences made me who I am today. Watching my father direct and teach while witnessing my mother's vocal ability are things I cherish.' Without doubt Mr. and Mrs. Lemons were very instrumental in identifying, developing and nurturing the gifts their son possessed. With the support and blessings of his parents Kevin responded to a great call to begin his own music ministry in 1996. Gathering a few singing friends and acquaintances in a small church is where is all began. Kevin Lemons, with God's direction and purpose in his heart, organized Higher Calling. This ministry, collectively known as Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, set out on a fast track to success by working diligently to create a sound and image unique to themselves. With Kevin's leadership, Higher Calling began traveling extensively throughout the United States sharing their message of love, unity and the importance of spiritual development...all through song. Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling released their first CD titled Destined for Greatness independently to great acclaim. The title track single 'Destined for Greatness' garnered quite a bit of radio airplay and remains a top choice on radio internet stations. The song was later recording and released in 2011 by Ricky Dillard and New Generation. Today, Higher Calling has grown into a 45 - voice, powerhouse gospel choir known for their skillful vocals, energetic performances, trendsetting style and overall excellence in ministry. Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling have shared stages with many gospel greats to include Fred Hammond, Ricky Dillard, Hezekiah Walker, the Clark Sisters, DeWayne Woods, LeAnn Faine, Donald Lawrence, the late O Landa Draper, Dorothy Norwood, Prophetess Juanita Bynum,Pastor William Murphy, Vashawn Mitchell, B. Chase Williams, and countless others. Additionally, the ministry has been nationally-televised with appearances on BET's Bobby Jones Gospel, Gospel Music Channel's The Kitchen Sink, and the Gospel Superfest. The choir has also ministered at the Dorsey Convention, GMWA, the Full Gospel Baptist Church Conference, Rhythm of Gospel Awards, COGIC Convocation to name a few.

However when he preceded to called her at work to inform her of this vision and that she needed to get on the radio and she laughed and hung up the phone. But to her surprise a tap came on her shoulder to remind her you must follow through and she did. With two calls to WYCB-AM 1340 first transferring to a voice mail she called again and got Mr. McCamey who greeted her with warm word and the questions of their vision for a show. Surprised she stated well….to introduce and present to others traditional gospel music and its history along with the interviewing of gospel legends. Her concern was that the only time you heard quartet and traditional music from legends were upon their passing. And she wanted to give them there flowers while they were living. These legends paved the way for all gospel artists out here today and she wants people to understand gospel music has come a mighty long way. As one legend stated we had to go in the back door to perform and exit the back door to leave yes we have come a mighty long way. Mr. McCamy asked for an email of her vision and not without her first and second draft being accidently erased on her computer while she was trying to finish. But God prevailed and her third draft to him was better than her first and second and it was sent that night. The following morning she received an email to come in and discuss her possibilities and the rest is history. With a little polishing of the shows name and Vania's renaming you got Ms. Vee. The ArtistGifted Guitarist - Southern Gospel Artist – Human Justice Humanitarian – Man of God In 2014, Arthur Roland was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a member of Lucille Pope and the Pearly Gates. He has been playing and touring for 35 years as a professional gospel artist. He is among the first Gospel groups to record and chart on a White Southern Gospel Music label (Morningstar Records). The 2009 album was entitled "It's all Good." He has also written hits for artists like the Williams Brothers (God will Deliver), Slim and the Supreme Angels (Separated Right from Wrong), and Lucille Pope and Pearly Gates (Real Christians Stand up; Great Reunion) to name a few. Roland has played and sung on countless other works with artists like the Blind Boys of Alabama, Dorothy Norwood and many others. In 2004, he toured Switzerland and other Countries on "The tribute to Mahalia Jackson tour." He released his first solo project in 2014, "Revival on a Tour Bus," which is still a top seller in Southern Gospel. His sophomore album, "In God's Own Time,” is slated for release in July 2015. Humble beginningsWhen you accept salvation at the early age of six years old and up grow up in Bostwick, an Eastern Georgia town with fewer than 400 people, you learn to listen and sometimes you even dream of a world bigger than the one that you were born in. It was at his family's church, Mt. Vernon Baptist, that he first heard the music of the Old Negro Spirituals sung and grew to love them. But when his parents took him to his first Gospel show and he heard legends like the Gospel Keynotes, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, and the Williams Brothers a chord ran through his body when he heard the guitars and the drums playing. He was so fascinated by the Gospel quartet sound that he went home and formed a group with his sisters. They copied the sounds and crafted it into their own. They became a children's quartet that traveled and even recorded. One night the young Arthur had a very clear dream that they were performing on a huge stage and he was doing something that he had never done before – he was playing the guitar! When he woke up from that dream he was gifted by God with the ability to play the guitar just as he had in the dream. He recognized it as a gift from God. From these humble beginnings, Roland has spent 35 years of his life touring, singing, playing, and writing music for some of those same artists that he saw when he walked into that Gospel concert at six years old. He has been amazingly blessed to learn side-by-side from legends like Clarence Fountain and the Blind Boys of Alabama, Lucille Pope, the late Willie Johnson, and Joe Ligon of the Mighty Clouds of Joy. These talented Gospel greats taught him the history and integrity of this style of music and sharpened his skills as a performer, writer, and singer. He also learned the history of the blues, which emanated from the church, and infused it into his traditional but unique gospel style. Servant leaderIn addition to this professional Gospel music career, Roland gives his time, his voice, and musical platform to the community and to speak on racial intolerance and human injustice. He has chaired the foundation "Urban Future", a St. Louis organization that helps inner city youth focus on school musical dreams and college goals. He co-produced and donated his musical talent to "The Restoration Project" with five of St. Louis' top blues artist. Thousands of dollars were raised for the cd project for the foundation. For the past two years Roland has also spoken in Florida with Jaimie Foxx and other noted celebrities after the Trayvon Martin incident and was at ground zero in Ferguson, MO. As a resident of St. Louis he, along with other St Louis leaders and known personalities, pleaded for calmer heads after the violence erupted. “In God's Own Time,” his new cd project, is dedicated in remembrance of the Michael Brown incident with songs like Tryna Get Ready and Refuge. These songs were inspired and came about after being in the middle of, talking to, and hearing and seeing the faces of the people at Ground Zero. I pray that it honors their words, their pain, and their grief as well as the hurt caused by continuing racial intolerance.
