Currently, central bankers have pulled all the levers they can to avoid unwinding the supercycle of global debt, but eventually, something has to give. The final tool that central bankers have to avoid creative destruction is inflation, and it is now a mathematical certainty that a devaluation of fiat currencies is coming. Is the rise of Bitcoin the only logical conclusion to the fiat money system? In this interview, I talk to Bitcoin Strategist Greg Foss and Dylan LeClair from Bitcoin Magazine. We discuss crony capitalism and perpetual bailouts, why debt cycles spell inflation, and how the world will turn to Bitcoin.

In E105B, Andrew Hines discusses the economic outlook in Canada and focuses on some specifics with respect to picking housing markets that may be better hedged in the event of further economic downturn. With the endless printing of money and the exploding Canadian housing market we Canadians have had some very difficult decisions to make. Where do we put our money? Where do we invest? There is no right answer but Andrew discusses the topics and gives some key questions and concerns to ponder. Bloomberg Opinion columnist Barry Ritholtz speaks with Ray Dalio, who is the founder, co-chief investment officer and co-chairman of the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. Dalio is known for his practical yet unconventional understanding of economics, which he spells out in his video “How the Economic Machine Works.” He's also the author of the New York Times bestseller “Principles: Life and Work.”
From Robert Kiyosaki to Ray Dalio No, unfortunately Ray Dalio hasn't joined Rob & Rob on this week's episode of The Property Podcast. That would have been epic though! Even Rob B confessed he might not have been able to get through that interview without being starstruck and giggling the whole way through. However, if you follow Ray Dalio on LinkedIn then you'll have seen he's been sharing some amazing insights via video this year. But they can be quite hard to understand and digest. So, Rob & Rob have done the leg work for you and are about to summarise what Ray has been saying. They'll be talking about the US a lot, but what happens there affects the whole world. So stay tuned. Dissecting the thoughts of Ray Dalio on The Property Podcast Economics can be an absolute minefield when you know aspects of it, but don't completely understand it. Thankfully it's a topic that The Robs are incredibly passionate about and have kindly dissected Ray Dalio's work into a more digestible version. Here's what The Robs are discussing on today's podcast, thanks to Ray Dalio: Debt cycles The first topic is the short-term debt cycle. This is also known as ‘the business cycle' and it repeats every eight years. This consists of: Debt-driven expansion... Over-optimism… Contraction/recession. Because these happen so often people tend to understand them pretty well. And it's something that Ray Dalio covers in his popular video, ‘How the Economic Machine Works'. The bigger deal is the long-term debt cycle. Now this cycle is considered more important but it's more poorly understood and that's because it lasts roughly 75 years. This is the lengthy one that you're going to want to wrap your head around so you'll want to grab a pen and paper for this part. The current debt cycle Yes, it's happening right now. So once Rob & Rob have walked you through the different stages of the long-term debt cycle, they're going to put it into real terms. They're going to take a look at how it's currently playing out, particularly in America, and what stage of the cycle we're at. What does it mean for us? As well as the long-term debt cycle, Ray describes how global power shifts between different countries over time. But what does this all mean for us here in the UK? To find that out, you're going to have to tune into this episode to find out. You may even end up listening to it more than once! Enjoy! This week's news This is where we would usually give you a link to a news article and Rob & Rob would discuss (or tear it apart) on the podcast. But this week we're not giving you one. That's because this week is usually when we have our Market Update episode and The Robs delve into everything that's been going on in the world over the past month. They've decided to push that back to next week. So, to give you a teaser, you can expect to hear all about the potential of negative interest rates, and why up to 6% of homes in England could be unmortgageable right now. It's going to be a good one so make sure you tune in next week. Hub Extra If today's episode hasn't completely exhausted every brain cell you have, then we've got just the resource tool for you. Of course, it's Ray Dalio's articles that we've discussed in today's episode. If you're ready to take your economic knowledge to the next level then these will certainly get you there. In this episode, we're looking at a small quote from "How the Economic Machine Works by Ray Dalio" and analyzing whether the rules still apply if you're doing business online. Just know that this episode is NOT INTENDED to discredit or pick apart the original video in ANY way. Instead, our goal was simple to show people that online business is sort of like "cheating" because you can create income without the need for massive amounts of capital. The infrastructure is already pretty much in place! The original video is very educational and engaging, so I suggest watching it before and/or after this one for some context. When investing in property, understanding how the economy works is just as important to your long term success as finding your target area, gaining finance or doing building work. And few people understand how the economy works better than Ray Dalio. Among numerous other things, Ray is a billionaire investor, hedge fund manager and philanthropist. Central London property prices are falling. While £600,000 off a home in Mayfair may seem like a drop in the ocean, it's that drop that's the beginning of the ripple effect. Bloomberg View columnist Barry Ritholtz interviews Ray Dalio, chairman and chief investment officer of the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. Dalio has been a global macro investor for more than 45 years, having started Bridgewater out of a two-bedroom apartment in New York City in 1975. I think you are going to love this episode! What I’m excited to share with you today is the audio portion of one of the greatest videos ever produced that explains how the economy works. More specifically, it’s titled “How the Economic Machine Works”. The 30-minute video was produced and narrated by Ray Dalio. Who is Ray Dalio? Ray Dalio is an American businessman and the founder of the investment firm Bridgewater Associates. He is one of the wealthiest people on the planet, with an estimated net worth of $15.4 billion (Forbes, 2015). And Time magazine considered him one of the Top 100 most influential people in the world. I reached out to Ray last week and asked him if I could share his great explanation with my listeners, and he graciously agreed. Ray says that an economy is simply the sum of the transactions that make it up. A transaction is a simple thing. Because there are a lot of them, the economy looks more complex than it really is. Instead of looking at it from the top down, it’s much easier to understand if we look at it from the transaction up. Regardless of how important the economy may be to you, I think having a basic understanding of it will make you a smarter investor. And having a better understanding of it will help make you far more successful in all your financial and investment decisions. I’m sure many of you will want to listen to this episode more than once because of the amount of content packed into this audio-only reply. My suggestion is to listen to it at least once, then click the link in the show notes to watch the animated video. The animations give it another dimension that helps you visualize and better understand the concepts. So don’t feel overwhelmed if this is your first time hearing this. Plus, Ray shares his three rules-of-thumb that you can take away and apply to your own personal economy. Now, just sit back and enjoy this audio-only portion of “How the Economic Machine Works”. In a break from the traditional format of the Creating Wealth Show, today features the audio version of Ray Dalio's educational and informative video How the Economic Machine Works. Dalio discusses a range of topics in-depth to provide a full overview of how the economic machine functions – just a few examples are the inflation/deflation model, de-leveraging and the difference between credit and actual money. Key Takeaways 01.24 – The premise for today's show is to gain an insightful overview of economics, thanks to Ray Dalio. 08.45 – The amount of free, available education options really question why students pay so much for a College degree. 11.27 – Transactions are the lynchpin – they create the three forces which ultimately drive the economy. 14.37 – The main difference between borrowers and lenders is that the former want to buy something they can't afford, while the latter want to make money into more money. 21.13 – Credit doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing; when the purchases can be used to create income it can be a positive, growth-creating technique. 22.53 – Ray Dalio takes us through his interpretation of the inflation/deflation cycles. 26.35 – Debt repayments and changing credit-worthiness are issues which have an effect worldwide. 32.07 – Because you can't always guarantee that a borrower won't default on their loan, so debt-restructuring is sometimes a necessary step. 38.00 – Printing money can have a positive effect on the economy, but it has to be done very specifically. Mentioned in this episode How the Economic Machine Works by Ray Dalio
