Hey DFI(Defi) people… The macro environment has been hitting hard this past week.  This is the twelfth episode  of our Defi focused segment of the Inside Crypto podcast. In this series we plan to cover the latest news regarding the constituents of our Defi Ecosystem Index. They are:  The Graph, Curve Finance, Maker, Chainlink, Uniswap, Liquid Staked ETH 2.0 (Lido Finance), LDO and Synthetix Network. MQL4 TUTORIAL

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 15, 2021 6:13

In this video, we are creating an Expert Advisor for Sell positions, that makes it possible to use user defined Stop Loss value. So let's find out how to do that with MQL4. To get started, please click on a little icon here or press F4 on your keyboard. Now you should see the Metaeditor window. And here you want to click on file, new file Expert Advisor from template, continue. I will call this file simple sell percentage risk. Click on Continue, continue and finish. Now you can delete everything above the Ontick function and the two Comment lines here, we start by creating an input variable.   If you mark that and press F1, you will see that input variables can be changed by the user from the program properties window without the need to recompile the code. The start value for our trading risk percentage is zero point five. That is one half of a percent. We also need another variable called max position loss. That is the maximal value that we are going to accept as a loss. Inside of the ontick function we need to check if we already have open positions.   So we use the function OrdersTotal. And if that returns a return value that is below one, it would mean that we have no open orders and no open positions. And if that is true, we are going to send a test sell order by using Ordersend for the current symbol on the chart. We want to sell 10 Microlot. Actually, we could also use the new syntax here, because when you mark that and press F1, you will see that you can also use _symbol. We don't use a defined Stop Loss value here. The Take Profit is 20 points below the current Bid price. Please remember, this is just a test sell order. You wouldn't do that on a real account. But as we need to close positions, we first need to have open positions. And actually that's where demo accounts are good for. On your account, you could have more than one open position. So we are going to use a for loop here to go through all the open orders.   Now we can use orderselect for the current counter value and try to select a position. If that is successful, we will calculate the position profit by using order profit. We calculate the max position loss by getting the current account balance divided through one hundred, that would be one percent. And that will be multiplied with the percentage risk value that we have defined here. And if you wonder what that part here is about, well, the max position loss is a negative value.   Therefore, we use this expression to calculate the negative value. Let's add two  print statements here. The first one is for the position profit. The second one is for the max position loss. And we will see the output in our journal. And if the position profit is below the max position loss value that we have allowed. Remember, this is a negative value – we will use order close for the current order ticket and the current order lot size to close the current order.   Let's close the orderselect the For loop and to see what's going on, I would like to add a comment statement for the current balance, the current max position loss and the percentage risk value directly on our chart. And that's about it. Well, if this was too fast for you or if you have no idea what all the code here does, maybe you want to watch one of the other videos from the basic video series first, or maybe even the Premium Course on our website might be interesting for you.   That's also where you can find offers to download source codes like this one. But for now, please click on the Compile button here or press F7 on your keyboard. You shouldn't get any errors. And if that is the case, you can click on a little button here or press F4 to go back to Metatrader. And in Metatrader, please click on View, Strategy tester or press Control and R. Please pick the new file Simple sell percentage risk dot EX4.   Mark, the option for the Visual mode here and start your test, here we are. This is our first position. Now let's click onto the journal tab.

HELDEN TEAM

Take Profit (Gewinn Mitnahme).

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 18, 2021 7:42

In this video, we are going to open some test positions, buy positions, and those positions will be closed when the crossover of these two moving averages happens. So let’s find out how to do that with MQL5. Please click on the little icon here or press F4 on your keyboard. Now, you should see the Metaeditor window and here you want to click on file, New file, Expert Advisor from Template. I will call this file simple by cross over Stop Loss.   Click on Continue, continue and finish. Now you can delete everything above the ontick function and let’s also remove the two comment lines here. We start by including the file Trade.mqh and we want to create an instance of the class Ctrade that is called trade and will provide some simplified trading functions. We first need to calculate the Ask price. That is done by using Symbolinfodouble for the current symbol on the chart, we want to use symbol, underscore, ask and with Normalize double and underscore digits we automatically calculate the right number of digits behind the dot. Let’s also repeat that for the Bit price. And now we create a string variable for the signal for a crossover.   We need two arrays, one for the small and one for the big moving average.   The small moving average definition is created by using the IMA function for the current symbol on the chart and the currently selected period on that chart, we are going to use twenty candles. No shift value in this case. I’m using ModeUnderscoreSMA for simple moving average.   But you also could use ModeUnderscoreEMA for exponential moving average and the calculation should be done based on the close price. The definition for the big moving average is very similar, but in this case we are using 50 candles. Now we use copybuffer to fill our array for the small and for the big moving average.   According to the two definitions that we have created. We do that for buffer zero from Candle zero. That’s the current candle, and we copy the price data for three candles and store them in the arrays for the small and for the big moving average. And whenever the big moving average array for candle one has a higher value than the small moving average array for candle one, we consider that to be a buy signal. In the other case, if the big moving average array for candle one is bigger than the small moving average array for candle one, that would be a sell signal.   The idea is to close all buy positions for the current currency pair. When we have a sell signal and when the return value for PositionsTotal is bigger than zero. That means we have open buy positions and want to close them, but we need to have something to close. So I’m going to open test positions when the signal equals buy and when we have no open positions, that’s when we are going to use trade.Buy to buy 10 Microlot. In our case, we are using Stop Loss value of 200 points and a Take Profit value of one hundred and fifty points.   Please remember, this is just a test position, you wouldn’t do that on a real account and to see what’s going on, I would like to have a comment statement that will output the text. The current signal is now followed by the signal. Well, this function does not exist, so we need to create it now. The name of the function is close all buy positions this pair. We use void because we don’t require a return value. Inside of the position we are going to use a for loop to count down until there are no positions left.   We need to get the ticket number, that is done by using position get ticket. We want to identify the current currency pair. That can be done by position, get symbol. In both cases we are using the current counter for the current position. Now let’s get the position direction. That is done by using position, get integer and the parameter here is position underscore type. And if the position direction equals position type buy, we have a buy position. Now we want to check if the current symbol on the chart equals the position symbol.   You could use symbol with an underscore, that stands for my current currency pair. And if this is equal to the currency pair for the position that we have identified, we want to use Ctrade dot position close, to close the current position. Now, let’s close the For loop and the function. And this is basically it.   This video, we are going to create an Expert Advisor that is able to open buy trades or close them when two moving averages are crossing. So let’s find out how to do that with MQL4. To get started please click on a little icon here or press F4 on your keyboard.    Now, you should see the Metaeditor window and you want to click on file, new file, Expert Advisor from Template, continue. I will call this file simple Buy Cross Over Stop. Click on Continue, continue and finish. Now you can delete everything above the Ontick function and the two comment lines here. We start by creating a string variable for the signal. That is called signal and we don’t assign a value here. Afterwards, we want to calculate the small moving average. That is done by using the IMA function for the current symbol on the chart and the currently selected period on that chart.   The small moving average should be calculated for twenty candles. We don’t use a shift value here. We use Mode_SMA, that stands for simple moving average. Of course, you could also use something like EMA for exponential moving average.   The results should be calculated based on the close price and we want to calculate the result for candle one. Now we want to repeat that for the big moving average. The big moving average in our case will be calculated for fifty candles. Everything else is the same, except for the variable name here and now we can calculate the signal, because when the big moving average is bigger than the small moving average for candle one, that would be a sell signal for us.   So we assign the words sell to our signal. In the other case, if the big moving average is below the small moving average for candle one, that would be a buy signal. So now we assign the word buy to our signal. This is about closing positions and to close something we need to open buy positions by using ordersend. We want to do that when the signal equals buy and when the return value for OrdersTotal is zero. That would mean we have no open orders and now we want to open a test position by using Ordersend for the current symbol on the chart, we are going to open a position for ten Microlot. We have Take Profit value of one hundred and fifty points.   Of course you only would do this on a demo account, not on a real account. And we do it to close positions when we have a cross over. So when the signal equals sell and we have open orders, that would be true when OrdersTotal returns a value that is above zero, then we want to call a function called close-buy positions this pair. And to see what’s going on, we want to use a comment statement to output the text.   The current signal is followed by the calculated signal directly on our chart. So far so good. But this function doesn’t exist so far, so we need to create it now. The name of the function is close buy positions this pair.   We use void because we don’t require a return type and now we use a for loop to go through all the open orders. Afterwards, we use order select to select a position for the current counter value of the for loop. We need to get the current currency pair. That can be done by using Order symbol. And now we want to check if the symbol on the chart and the currency pair are equal. And as we only want to close buy positions, we also check if the order type equals OP_BUY.   And if those conditions are true, we want to close the order. That is done by using order close for the current order ticket and the current order lots, we are going to close the order for the Bit price. The slippage is three and the last parameter here would be the color. I haven’t assigned a particular color here, but usually it’s red. Now let’s close the for loop and close the function and that’s about it. If this was too fast for you or if you have no idea what all the code here does, maybe you want to watch one of the other videos in the basic video series first, or maybe even the Premium Course on our website might be interesting for you...

In this video, we want to test how to find the optimal value for the take profit points, so let’s find out how to do that with mql5. To get started please click on a little icon here or press F4 on your keyboard, now you should see the Metaeditor window and here you want to click on file, new file, expert advisor from template, continue, I will call this file, simple profit point test, click on continue, continue and finish. Now you can delete everything above the ontick function and the two comment lines here. First, we want to include the file trade dot mqh, it contains the class ctrade and we are going to create an instance called trade. I also would like to create a user-defined variable for the profit value. Inside of the ontick function, we start by calculating the ask price and the bid price that is done by using symbol info double for the currently selected symbol on the chart, we use either symbol ask or symbol underscore bid and with normalize double and underscore digits we automatically calculate the right number of digits behind the dot. Now let’s use mql rates to get some price information because mql rates stores the information about prices, volumes and spread. Afterwards, we use array set as series for our price info array to sort the array from the current candle downwards and with copy rates we are going to fill our array for the current symbol on the chart and the currently selected period but I would like to use it with an underscore, basically, it’s the same. This one and this one are exchangeable and with copy rates, we can fill our price info array for the current symbol on the chart and the currently selected period on that chart. We start with candle zero and we copy the values for three candles and store them in the price info array. Let’s create another array, called sma fifty array because we are going to use a simple moving average. Here comes the definition. I would like to use the integrated ima function for the current symbol on the chart and the currently selected period on that chart. I would like to calculate the value for fifty candles, don’t use a shift value here, this parameter is called mode underscore sma that stands for simple moving average and I would like to have the values calculated based on the close price. Now let’s use array set as series to sort this one from the current candle downwards and now we can use copy buffer according to the sma fifty definition that we have created here to copy values for buffer zero, from the current candle zero for ten candles and store the values in the sma fifty array. And to get the current sma value we just need to have a look into candle zero of our sma fifty array and now that we have the current value for the simple moving average we check if the simple moving average value is above the ask price, in that case, we want to buy, so we assign the word buy to our signal. Otherwise, if the current sma value is below the bid price that’s when we want to sell and then we assign the word sell to our signal and if we have a sell signal and positions total is below one that would mean we don’t have any open positions but we want to sell, so now we use trade dot sell to sell ten micro lot. And here is our user profit point value that we have defined, the basic value is three hundred but as it is an input value you can change that later on while the expert advisor running without any new compilation process. Now let’s repeat that for the buy signal. If the signal equals buy and we have no open positions we use trade dot buy and but ten micro lot and this time we take the current ask price and add the user profit point value multiplied by the point value and that value depends on the current symbol you have on the chart. Finally, we want to use the comment statement to output the current signal on the chart followed by the user profit point value that we are going to test and that’s about it. Well, if this was too fast for you or if you have no idea what all the code here does maybe you want to watch one of the other videos in this basic video series or maybe even the premium course on our website might be interesting for you. This once again was a question that was asked by a premium course member and if you are already a premium course member and have a question like this one please let me know, for now, let’s enable the toolbar and now you can click on the compile button or press F7, I made a mistake, I’m using a variable here that wasn’t declared, so let’s fix that, it is going to be a string variable called signal and we don’t assign a value here. Now let’s recompile the code and this time it worked without any errors and if that is the case you can click on a little button here or press F4 to go back to Metatrader. And in Metatrader please click on view, strategy tester or press control and r, please pick the new file, simple profit point test dot ex5, mark the option for the visual mode here and start a test but before you do that please click on the inputs tab and change the user-defined value to two hundred ninety-nine, now let’s start the test. And here we are! Currently, we see that the user profit point value is two hundred and ninety-nine points, now you can speed up the whole process and get a Not sure what to do? After two brutal years of obsessive debt repayments and a year of hard saving I finally made my first investment in March 2014. Six years of watching paint dry was followed, finally, by a stock market crash so brutal I'm still suffering a nosebleed. In my short investment career I've experienced every market condition but growth. As a result of this less-than-illustrious track record, it's probably not surprising that the growth I'm currently seeing in my portfolio is freaking me out completely. My CoreShares S&P500 ETF is 70% up and I don't know what to do with myself. I want desperately to lock in this growth, which is what Simon's trying to talk me out of in this week's episode. Watch the presentation Simon did last week. It's really good! We've been blessed by the tech fairies since we started recording remotely on 19 March. However, the gremlins found us this week, cutting short our usual recording time. Forgive us, please! If we're lucky we can record Episode 200 together. We hope you are excited too. Subscribe to our RSS feed here. Subscribe or rate us in iTunes. Win of the week: Philip.  Every Monday morning we send out a newsletter and every Monday morning Philip sends me an encouraging email or compliment about the newsletter. I've come to look forward to it every Monday, so I think Philip deserves to win for making me happy on a weekly basis.

Make a wish list of stocks you'd like to trade and keep yourself informed about the selected companies and general markets. Scan business news and visit reliable financial websites. Set an Amount Aside Assess how much capital you're willing to risk on each trade. Many successful day traders risk less than 1% to 2% of their account per trade. If you have a $40,000 trading account and are willing to risk 0.5% of your capital on each trade, your maximum loss per trade is $200 (0.005 x $40,000). Set aside a surplus amount of funds you can trade with and are prepared to lose. Remember, it may or may not happen. Set Aside Time, Too Day trading requires your time. That's why it's called day trading. You'll need to give up most of your day, in fact. Don’t consider it if you have limited time to spare. The process requires a trader to track the markets and spot opportunities, which can arise any time during trading hours. Moving quickly is key. Start Small As a beginner, focus on a maximum of one to two stocks during a session. Tracking and finding opportunities is easier with just a few stocks. Recently, it has become increasingly common to be able to trade fractional shares, so you can specify specific, smaller dollar amounts you wish to invest. That means if Apple shares are trading at $250 and you only want to buy $50 worth, many brokers will now let you purchase 1/5 of a share. Time Those Trades Many orders placed by investors and traders begin to execute as soon as the markets open in the morning, contributing to price volatility. A seasoned player may be able to recognize patterns and pick appropriately to make profits. But for newbies, it may be better just to read the market without making any moves for the first 15 to 20 minutes. The middle hours are usually less volatile, and then movement begins to pick up again toward the closing bell. Though the rush hours offer opportunities, it’s safer for beginners to avoid them at first. Cut Losses With Limit Orders Decide what type of orders you will use to enter and exit trades. Will you use market orders or limit orders? When you place a market order, it is executed at the best price available at the time — thus, no price guarantee. A limit order, meanwhile, does guarantee the price, but not the execution. Limit orders help you trade with more precision, wherein you set your price (not unrealistic but executable) for buying as well as selling. More sophisticated and experienced day traders may employ the use of options strategies to hedge their positions as well. Be Realistic About Profits A strategy doesn't need to win all the time to be profitable. Many traders only win 50% to 60% of their trades. The point is, they make more on their winners than they lose on their losers. Make sure the risk on each trade is limited to a specific percentage of the account, and that entry and exit methods are clearly defined and written down. Stay Cool There are times when the stock markets test your nerves. As a day trader, you need to learn to keep greed, hope, and fear at bay. Decisions should be governed by logic and not emotion. And Stick to the Plan Successful traders have to move fast, but they don't have to think fast. Why? Because they've developed a trading strategy in advance, along with the discipline to stick to that strategy. No importa.
