It's EMS Week wrap-up time, and Chris Cebollero and Kelly Grayson are back in classic form in this episode of the Inside EMS podcast. From jokes about Sloppy Joe leftovers from Hospital Week to heartfelt gratitude for the medics still grinding it out day after day, this episode hits all the notes. Chris and Kelly talk about why EMS Week still matters; more than just stickers and slogans, it's about recognizing the quiet pride, the commitment and the transformation that EMS professionals bring to their communities every single day. The hosts challenge listeners to advocate for the profession, share their stories, and — most importantly — support one another. Whether you're still running lights and sirens or mentoring the next generation, this one's for you. No one is in Police, Fire, EMS or the Military for awards and commendations. We do it because it is what it is expected of us. Sure some recognition is nice, but when is it just too much? This week is EMS week and your pals at WYE stocked your local EMS break room with 4 LOCOs and pamphlets about other agencies hiring in the area. But really, what does a week of recognition mean? Awards? Medals? Lunch? Do they matter? This week the guys ask what is it really all about and why is it always Scott and Gary gunning for the big award this month/year/etc, and not the folks actually making a difference. While your hosts have their own accolades to hang on the wall, they discuss the importance of recognition but also the risk of over rewarding mediocrity. Then they're off for their own recognition, a 36-hour stint away from the families at the Strawberry Bluegrass Music Festival. This week we ponder:Why does Scott always seem to be getting awards and medals? Is it OK to avoid the recognition or should we lean into it?Have your hosts ever earned a medal? What is a Dadberry?Support the showJoin our Facebook Community!Buy us a beer!Email Us! EMS Week has again rolled around for its 49th time.  Enacted by President Gerald Ford in 1974, we take time to pause, reflect and of course, thank those who are there for us in our worst hour.  The dedication and deep respect never goes unnoticed but is surely accentuated and loudly stated, during this week each year.   Take a moment to think about those who serve us and if you get the chance, say thanks.  Say thanks to them with your words, actions and legislation to support them.  This podcast reflects my deep appreciation for those who perform this challenging work that only few can do. To each who work in the trenches be it by air or ground, may you enjoy this week of thanks.  God Bless and hey, be safe out there.   Presented by:  Gary Harvat, EMT-P (ret.), CMTE
