It's National Nurses Week, so we tried to see if humans make better nurses than robots in a themed round of Man vs. Machine. Unfortunately things got sexist pretty quick and Ally got heated. To all the sexy nurses out there, thank you for your service. A new subway line is opening in Los Angeles and Jake took to the streets to see who was excited about it or even knew it existed. Turns out nobody in LA wants to "Ride the D" even if they were paid to do so. We did another Most/Least on the Show, this time focusing on who we believe to be the luckiest & unluckiest. Not surprisingly, Johnny was at the top of all our lists and Ally was at the bottom. Pets are awesome, but they can be dicks. We did a round of Don't Be A Dick: Pets! And discovered there's a lot to love (and hate) about our animals, including the '6am zoomies' and a dog that almost kills her owners on a daily basis by turning on the stove.
We discuss with Guthrie County Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Mandy Schiefert and and Surgical Services Manager Kassie Cline.
Tonight's edition of The Mark White Show focuses on an issue affecting healthcare workers across America: workplace violence in hospitals and healthcare settings. As someone who has served on the Athens-Limestone Hospital Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) since 2023, this conversation hits especially close to home for me. It's interesting timing that tomorrow's PFAC meeting will include discussion surrounding workplace violence, while tonight's show addresses the growing concerns nurses and healthcare workers are facing every day. With this also being National Nurses Week, the conversation feels even more important. Joining me tonight are John Voight, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, and Mike Shore, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise at Axon. We'll discuss the realities healthcare workers are facing, how workplace violence impacts staffing and patient care, and what steps can help create safer environments for the people serving on the front lines of healthcare. Healthcare workers show up for people during some of the hardest moments of life. They deserve support, protection, and appreciation for the work they do every single day. Real stories. Real people. Real impact. News That Unites!™️

RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Departments joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about health designations as we begin the month of May. Child Mental Health Week is celebrated from May 5th to 11th, 2025, and Nurses Week is celebrated from May 6th to 12th, 2025. Health advocates in Henry and Stark counties are spotlighting children's mental health as part of a national awareness week from May 5th to 11th, underscoring that one in six youth nationwide faces mental illness annually. Limited resources leave many without critical care, so families are urged to seek help early. Alongside this, National Nurses Week runs from May 6th to 12th, honoring nurses' critical roles—from bedside support to community leadership. Meanwhile, Clean Air Month brings a warning about radon dangers, with local data revealing high levels in most Stark County homes. Affordable radon test kits are available for $15 at Health Department offices in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon.
With National Nurses Week Upon us from May 6 to 12, it's a ceremonial time to recognize the amazing things that those professionals bring to the healing world. This episode of the Thomas Jefferson University News Podcast shares a story that starts with students interested in learning more about the profession and culminates with a look at a new initiative designed to further the education of those already in the field. We start with a look at the College of Health Professions' Introduction to Nursing course which serves as a launching pad for those interested in learning more about the profession, and as you will hear from students, the messages build quite a foundation. From there, they can enter a rewarding field in which a lifelong learning mindset has recently been bolstered by the formation of a Nurse Leader Accelerator initiative. With guidance from College of Nursing Dean Marie Ann Marino, Connelly Foundation Chief Nurse Executive Officer Kate Fitzpatrick and Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Executive Annemarie Chavarria, Jefferson created to provide a unique educational experience to advance their roles in the professional world. While there are millions of stories from within the nursing world, consider this one bookended from the start of some would-be nurses' journey into the heights they can achieve in the field.
