The discussion begins with a heartbreaking story out of Georgia, where a nurse, after working consecutive night shifts, fell asleep at the wheel, leading to a fatal crash. They dive into the need for fatigue management policies, smarter shift scheduling, and how EMS leaders can — and must — prioritize provider health. Author (and physical therapist) Michelle Stiles wrote a book a few years ago that seemed worthy of review now, more than ever. "One Idea To Rule Them All: Reverse Engineering American Propaganda" isn't strictly a political book, per se, but it does offer a lot of clues leading us to realizing why we're in the political state we're in currently. Oner particular excerpt caught my at the start of chapter ten ("Planet Vulnerable") under the first subhead "Tyranny in a Democracy.""How does one convert a democracy, or rather a republic, into atyranny? Most people would say that it can't be done. The peo-ple are supposed to rule through their elected representatives. They work for us, right? America was set up as the ultimatebulwark against tyranny. The founders created multiple checks and balances so thatno one branch of government could become too strong. Theyalso created two chambers of the legislature to ensure that therights of states would not be overshadowed by simple majorityrule or federal overreach.Sure, some citizens have vague feelings that the govern-ment has become less responsive or sense that there are morebad apples in government than ever before, but the alarmswitch that should trigger the potent potential of a growingtyranny never gets activated. After all, we, the people, are still in charge. We have elec-tions, a free press, the rule of law, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution in place to protect us. For most people, the solidframework of freedom still stands. The answer is to get theright people into office, and then the ship will correct itself. It's nothing to worry about. Seeing tyranny and propaganda at work in a democracy can be hard."This book came out in November of 2022, in case you thought this was a new release based on current headlines. Nope. Michelle and I discussed a range of manipulative and propagandized elements to our American history, form politics to race to war and even the automobile. ------Speaking of propaganda, North Fulton / Roswell residents weren't buying it when Rep. Rich McCormick (R) held a town hall meeting last night, but Elon Musk's X platform seems to have their filters set to suppress anything anti-DOGE, as evidenced by Atlanta Journal Constitution reporter Greg Bluestein's curiously "unavailable" tweet videos from that blustery gathering. Then there's Forsyth County, Ga., resident (and Georgia Tech grad) Ken Kirkland going toe-to-toe with Elon and getting Musk's nonsense “Community Notes'ed” when Musk, himself, tried to paint Kirkland a “liar.”------Also, delicious to see how Fox News' host Jesse Watters suddenly finds the DOGE "chainsaw" effect too sloppy once he learned a friend of his lost his federal job. Join us as we uncover the harsh realities of sex trafficking and its entrenchment in our communities with Thomas Hampson, an investigative journalist renowned for his work on crime and sexual exploitation. Through heartfelt personal narratives, including the story of my nephew, we explore the shifting dynamics of college relationships, underscoring how family backgrounds shape young adults. Are educational policies overstepping parental rights and community values? The contentious debate over school content, particularly LGBTQ literature, is brought to the forefront as we examine the tug-of-war between federal mandates and local autonomy. Drawing historical parallels to freedom struggles, we consider the potential overreach of the Biden administration and the implications for parental influence in education. The incident in Forsyth County, Georgia, serves as a poignant example of federal intervention sparking community conflict, pushing us to question the appropriate role of government in shaping young minds.Unregulated borders and illegal migration continue to stir controversy, sparking discussions about the exploitation of migrants and the strain on citizens. We delve into the murky ethics of religious organizations profiting from immigration, dissecting the so-called new form of slavery in modern society. Highlighting the need for compassion balanced with controlled borders, our conversation challenges listeners to recognize and resist manipulations within the immigration debate. From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Monday, October 14th, and I'm Keith Ippolito. Former President Trump to hold campaign rally in Cobb County on Tuesday Former President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally in Cobb County on Tuesday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, following a Fox News town hall in Forsyth County. The rally, requiring tickets for general admission, will focus on inflation, with Trump criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris's economic policies. He claims Georgia families are spending significantly more due to inflation, which he attributes to Harris's influence. Despite recent reports indicating stabilization in inflation rates, Trump argues that the current administration's policies have exacerbated economic challenges. The Federal Reserve has recently cut interest rates, signaling a victory over inflation, with more cuts anticipated. Meanwhile, Harris advocates for middle-class benefits funded by taxing corporations and the wealthy, warning against Trump's tariffs. The economy remains a pivotal issue for voters, with Georgia being a key battleground in the upcoming election. Century Communities: Why Land is Sometimes the Most Important Element

Alex Miller, director of land acquisition at Century Communities, joins host Carol Morgan for this week's Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio episode. In this podcast segment, Miller discusses land acquisition from a national builder's perspective. Miller attended Indiana University and graduated with a degree in secondary education. When he discovered that teaching wasn't the best career choice for him, he went back to school, obtaining an MBA at Indiana Wesleyan University and a Master of Science with a focus on Finance from Georgia Southern University. His first job in real estate was as a financial analyst at Stanley Martin Homes in Atlanta. He did underwritings for land acquisition, new deals and general corporate finance. After a couple of years, he moved to Century Communities and now serves as the face of land acquisition. “Land acquisition, which is one of the reasons I love it, it's kind of the heartbeat of the company,” said Miller. “I like to think of myself on the front lines out there, battling for land. Without land, you don't have a home building company.” The most important land acquisition goal is achieving the business plan through daily actions. Miller forecasts five years out, which means that he looks at many different projects at the same time. Whether it is a finished lot, a deal that is just zoned or raw land, he assesses each project individually to determine where it fits in the five-year plan. “You structure where you deploy your capital and purchase these deals at the right time to meet those business plans in the future,” said Miller. “And it's tricky. Right now, Century's Atlanta division is working very aggressively to meet those goals.” Where is Century Communities looking to build in Atlanta? Miller said the industry-rich I-75 corridor toward Cartersville and Emerson is being discussed. Century is also working to build in South Fulton locations like McDonough and Douglasville, but the rising costs of land in the area challenge the land acquisition team. The current golden Atlanta markets are Cherokee County, Dawson County and Forsyth County. Choosing a location can be challenging, but Miller has criteria that clarify the decision. For example, when looking at raw land to develop into single-family home communities with two units per acre, he likes a minimum of 50 acres to work with. The number of acres is not as crucial when acquiring lots with zoning permits in hand or finished lots. Zoning is the risky aspect of land acquisition, so already-zoned lots are attractive to home builders like Century. With interest rates at an all-time high, home builders must consider what is affordable now for buyers and what will still be affordable in three to five years. Other challenges can pop up along the way, including pond agreements, lift stations for sewers that don't flow with gravity and rough topography. Miller and his land acquisition team constantly face new roadblocks on projects, but he enjoys the challenge. “I'll come home, and my wife, she'll ask me how my day was.” said Miller. “I have literally experienced every single emotion that a human has in a day because of these deals, but that's what makes it fun, too.” As housing trends change, there is a shift to smaller properties across the Atlanta market. Miller said that people are not shying away from higher-density communities and homes under 2,000 square feet. However, in areas like north Forsyth County, the demographic is different and favors larger lots and luxury products. He emphasizes the importance of home builders knowing the area and knowing their buyers to maximize profit in an ever-changing market. Join us for a summer real estate episode with Blake Ginther as we dive into the current state of the market and how seasonal changes are impacting real estate activities. Blake shares his ideal Father's Day plans, discusses the early summer slowdown in Forsyth County, and provides insights on the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions and their implications for home buyers and sellers. We also explore the rising costs of homeownership, including insurance premiums and maintenance, and Blake offers practical advice for those feeling the financial pinch. Might it sometimes make more sense to rent rather than buy? And how should one navigate the challenges of increased costs while maintaining financial stability. Additionally, Blake shares his thoughts on the importance of internal reflection before making significant life changes, whether it's moving homes or changing jobs, and emphasizes the value of contentment and watering your own grass. Don't miss out on Blake's book recommendations, "Strength to Strength" and "Die With Zero," which offer valuable perspectives on aging, professional growth, and financial planning. To wrap up, Blake makes his prediction for the US Open winner (we recorded last Friday).  Did he get it right?? The program will include two drones purchased through Axon Air at a total cost of $325,330.52, spread over a six-year contract. These drones will aid in locating missing adults with dementia and children, as well as providing valuable aerial perspectives during emergency responses. The Axon Air system offers features like automated tracking, unlimited data storage, live streaming, and compatibility with various drones. Funding for the program will come from the CSO's annual operating budget, and the office already uses Axon for officer-worn body cameras and car cameras. STORY 5: Kemp Signs Controversial Election Law Changes Governor Brian Kemp has signed a package of election law changes supported by Republicans but criticized by Democrats and voting-rights advocates. The bills, signed on Tuesday, include Senate Bill 189, which facilitates mass voter challenges, eliminates QR codes from paper ballots, and eases requirements for third-party presidential candidates. House Bill 1207 allows fewer voting machines, mandates U.S. citizenship for poll workers, and grants closer access for poll watchers, while House Bill 974 mandates more audits of statewide election results and sets up a statewide system to scan and post paper ballots. Republican supporters argue these laws will enhance election integrity, but critics, like the ACLU, see them as imposing barriers to voting access. On the podcast, Martin shared about her upbringing in Stokes County  and how the court led by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren impacted her decision to become a lawyer. Later in the episode, she explored a common theme that runs through the lives of the criminal defendants that she has prosecuted during her 25-year career. "In my experience the most common denominator of my defendants are that they have dropped out of high school and that they have been born and live in poverty," said Martin on the podcast. "I know that poverty can be a factor but it is not the defining moment of your life. Poverty does not mean crime." Chief A.D.A. Martin has served in the Forsyth County District Attorney's Office from 1999 to the present, and teaches as a member of the extended faculty at Elon University School of Law and High Point University School of Law. She graduated in 1996 with a B.A. in English from Wake Forest University and earned a J.D. from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1999.

Amy Palacios was last on the podcast Season 3; Episodes 147, 165 and 179, Season 4; Episodes 134, 145 and 150, Season 5; Episodes 22 and 70. Amy's case takes place in Cabarrus County, NC.     We discussed their "family court" cases and the common thread is that the extortion that takes placed in the "family courtroom," amidst threats of jail and being forced into to "debtor's prison," which was ABOLISHED in 1833, constantly persist in the cases of these young mothers. God only knows what they are doing to good, fit loving fathers and grandparents as well.    We discussed Amanda Story's updates where she has been through so many judges, ones she has NEVER MET and where sanctions have been placed. The Judge called her indigent and ordered her to pay $400.00 by February 20th to opposing counsel and the judge backdated the order to 2023. Amanda encourages parents to PAY ATTENTION and to get recordings as well as check through the Certificate Of Service DATES including the YEAR. Amanda has had a VIOLATION of all HER RIGHTS including ADA, DUE PROCESS and HIPPA. Go through YOUR DOCKET to make sure the time line is accurate.  Amanda encourages parents to study what  DARVO means: Deny Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. Amanda has been met with RETALIATION.     Every time they kidnapped Amy Palacios's children, which was seven times in the last 15 YEARS it was done EXPARTE COMMUNICATIONS, which means Amy was NEVER in the courtroom. EXPARTE and CONTINUANCES NEVER END. The LEGAL ABUSE and FINANCIAL ABUSE never ends. There are TIES to the District Attorney's Office....    The first judge Amanda had was Judge T. Kazakos. On a whim, he stripped Amanda Story OF HER 50/50 RIGHTS and she never went before him. It was done EXPARTE.  Apparently the Judge sits on the STOP CHILD ABUSE board. Parents have to pay for supervised visits and parenting classes. Amanda's case involved gun violence toward her child. WHY?     So much information on the corruption of what really goes on in the "family court" system in NORTH CAROLINA. DISCLAIMER:  This episode discusses the in custody death of an inmate and the events leading up to it. Listener discretion is advised.  In December, 2019 Forsyth County jail inmate, John Neville allegedly fell off his top bunk and exhibited seizure like symptoms. Five correctional officers and one correctional nurse, Michelle Heughins RN, a correctional nurse on duty, responded to his cell. He was held down prone by the officers. The nurse was often not granted access to Neville, who was first responsive and fighting, then later becoming unresponsive. Upon finding the patient had no pulse and was not breathing, Nurse Heughins called for an AED and began CPR. Neville died of positional asphyxiation two days later in the hospital. The five officers and one nurse were criminally charged with involuntary manslaughter. However the Grand Jury decided to ONLY indict the nurse.  Correctional nurse, Michelle Heughins RN, joins Nurses Uncorked to tell her story, the three year court battle, and the outcome of her case. Summary: In this season finale episode of "Bruh Issa Murder," Andre, Robert, and Kelly discuss the racially charged events that took place in Forsyth County, Georgia, in 1912. They delve into the brutal account of the rape and murder of a young white woman named Mae Crow, and the subsequent arrest, lynching, and forced expulsion of three African American men accused of the crime. The episode highlights the deep-rooted racial tensions and injustices that plagued America during this time period. Key Takeaways: The events in Forsyth County, Georgia, in 1912 serve as a stark reminder of the deeply entrenched racial tensions in America. The arrest, lynching, and forced expulsion of three African American men were fueled by racial conflict and prejudice. The lack of proper trials and the swift execution of the accused men highlight the systemic racism prevalent in the justice system at the time. The expulsion of black families from the county and the subsequent appropriation of their land further perpetuated racial inequality and injustice.
