The International Federation of Christian Churches (IFCC) welcomes the formation of Government of National Unity (GNU),which officially ushers in the 7th Administration. This is after what has been proven to be a historical election on the 29th of May 2024, where no political party was given a majority mandate to govern by the Electorate.The IFCC pleads  with the ministers to rise above party politics, self-interest during their service in the GNU and put the interests of the people of South Africa first.

Test standardization is a complex and multifaceted effort that’s remained a major goal for laboratory medicine’s professional societies, including the AACC and IFCC.  Hemoglobin A1c is an example of a test that has undergone global standardization due to its worldwide importance in diabetes screening, diagnosis, and care.  A key part of any standardization effort is aligning all manufacturers’ methods to an accepted reference method.  This was the main aim of the European Hemoglobin A1c trial devised by the IFCC’s Committee on Education and Use of Biomarkers in Diabetes. The August 2018 issue of Clinical Chemistry includes an original research article that describes the European Hemoglobin A1c trial and its results.

Commutability is an important concept in determining traceability and the relationship among different methods that are used to measure the same analyte but just how to describe and classify commutable materials is not always straightforward.  The March 2018 issue of Clinical Chemistry published a series of three reports from the Working Group on Commutability of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, or IFCC, that describe recommendations for assessing commutability.

An ordained minister (IFCC and CEEC) who has been actively involved in Christian ministry since becoming born again in 1986. He completed a 1-year community based evangelistic program travelling throughout the United Kingdom, pioneered a church in South Birmingham and Lincoln, UK and was the Assistant Pastor and Church Administrator in a large and fast-growing church in Bristol. He has taught in various Bible Colleges and taught across Europe and Africa in many conferences training and empowering many Pastors and Leaders. He has worked across the denominational barriers directing youth work, children's ministry and worship teams, having been a musician for over 30 years.

David Luong has been working in the visual effects industry professionally since 2005.  He is currently a Senior Cinematic Artist II at Blizzard Entertainment, doing lighting, compositing, and digital matte painting for Blizzard’s cinematics on games such as Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch. He has previously worked on films such as Night at the Museum, Superman Returns, and Underworld Evolution at Rhythm & Hues, Luma Pictures, and Disney Toon Studios. The Scientific Committee of Molecular Biology Techniques (C-MbT) in Clinical Chemistry of the IFCC has initiated a joint project in co-operation with the European Commission, Joint Research Centre, Institute of Reference Materials and Measurements to develop and produce plasmid-type reference materials (RMs), for the analysis of the human prothrombin gene G20210A mutation. Although DNA tests have a high impact on clinical decision-making and the number of tests performed in diagnostic laboratories is high, issues of quality and quality assurance exist, and currently only a few RMs for clinical genetic testing are available. A gene fragment chosen was produced that spans all primer annealing sites published to date. Both the wild-type and mutant alleles of this gene fragment were cloned into a pUC18 plasmid and two plasmid RMs were produced. In addition, a mixture of both plasmids was produced to mimic the heterozygous genotype. The present study describes the performance of these reference materials in a commutability study, in which they were tested by nine different methods in 13 expert laboratories.. This series of plasmid RMs are, to the best of our knowledge, the first plasmid-type clinical genetic RMs introduced worldwide.
