After a bit of a preamble to set the table, the guys begin to talk about what Brent Venables said at his Monday presser. It sounds like the super fast, high up tempo Jeff Lebby speed offense may be a thing of the past (02:15). Tyler Keltner is going to get the first crack at kicking FGs and Lee was not thrilled with Venables explaining why Billy Bowman will be the one returning kicks (08:10). It sounds like Jayden Jackson is the real deal, but Grant continues to be concerned about this development. Venables also explained why Michael Hawkins is the backup quarterback instead of Casey Thompson (13:20). Finally, Venables had an intriguing comment about one of the true freshman players on offense (21:50). On to the Big Season Preview as we tell you all the questions about OU that we are most interested to get answered once real football is being played (25:00). We go over things that we are sure of about OU, that we hope to be proven wrong about in 2024 (42:20). We predict OU's final regular season record and explain how e got there (47:55). Random thoughts about the rest of the interesting teams in the SEC (57:00). The guys predict the 12-team playoff teams and National Championship Game (1:11:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
OU's Week 1 depth chart came out just before we started recording the show. There's actually a lot of stuff to talk about. We go position by position beginning with the offense (1:40). We switch over to the defense where Grant is quite worried by Jayden Jackson being listed as a starter by himself at DT. And I guess they're going for it with Billy Bowman taking kickoff return duties (15:40). Now it's time to throw out hot takes about OU. Lee had a difficult time thinking of hot takes, while Grant brings quite a few to the table (28:00). Grant has some fire SEC-themed hot takes (51:30). We get to the rest of college football. Lee is coming around on USC for 2024, while Grant is absolutely not. Plus Grant has some more Big Ten hot takes and Lee comes up with a Penn State hot take off the top of his head. Grant finishes up with an interesting hot take about Oklahoma State (53:30). We go to the WoE Facebook page to read off your hot takes to end the show (1:06:30). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

Jayden Jackson is tearing up spring ball.
There were a lot of positive vibes flowing at OU spring practice this week, but unfortunately the biggest news is that center Troy Everett is injured and will be out until at least the beginning of the season (1:30). The offensive line and the defensive line have the most question marks on the team going into 2024. Venables did have a lot of positive things to say about the DL this week at practice (10:30). We continue to hear great things about Jayden Jackson and David Stone (17:25). The LBs are in much better shape today compared to where the Sooners were in the spring of 2022 (20:30). It sure sounds like the secondary is looking great -- but we are still skeptical that they'll be able to play sound, consistent zone defense. Plus additional thoughts on Kendel Dolby, Woodi Washington, and can OU implement the Iowa State umbrella-style defense at times in the SEC (27:15)? Grant talks a little bit about the QB room and we both figure out that Davis Beville is now playing at South Carolina. Lee had to be reminded recently that OU is still not technically in the SEC yet (37:40). Let's talk about ESPN's rankings of the top 10 head coaches for 2024. Who's too high? Who's too low? Who should be on the list? What if they did a top 10 worst coaches (42:15)? We finish up with OU men's basketball talk after basically the entire team is portaling (1:02:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

Brent Venables opened up practice for quite a long time to the media this week. Plus many players conducted interviews, including Jovantae Barnes. We begin the show by jumping into Barnes and what the heck is going on with his foot and his potential availability for the 2024 season. Lee goes through the timeline of his foot injury dating back to last spring and we try to figure out if he's ever going to be healthy--or maybe Barnes just simply isn't very good (3:00). Grant points out that the two players atop the RB depth chart are injury prone, so potentially all RBs have a chance to get some run this year. We relitigate the final quarter of the Kansas game and ask why Barnes was in the game and not Gavin Sawchuk? We also continue to question DeMarco Murray's management of that room (17:20). We move over to Jackson Arnold and what he's working on this spring. Is he really off of social media? Grant is expecting a big season from Arnold, but Lee can't help but think of the worst case scenario. What if Jackson Arnold plays as well as Spencer Rattler played in his RS-Freshman year? Would we take that (30:15)? I think we continue to get evidence the TE room is much better than it was a season ago. Thoughts on Davon Mitchell and Kaden Helms (40:45). David Stone and Jayden Jackson are making really good first impressions (47:40). I think we learned a lot from Dasan McCullough's availability this week. Grant's afraid he does not have a true position anymore, while Lee is hoping that maybe Will LB is a spot that can allow McCullough to contribute and make plays (53:40). Woodi Washington is repping at basically every secondary position. Lee's not sure this is a good thing for Woodi. Grant wants to remind everybody that while OU's secondary looks to have a lot of depth, the pass defense was still bad in 2023 (1:00:30). All we're getting is good vibes from Zac Alley and it sounds like he's simplifying the defene for everybody. Does that sound too much like Alex Grinch's Speed D (1:12:00)? Thoughts on Justin Harrington and his recovery from injury. Grant wants to make sure he brings up Deion Burks and the rave reviews he's been getting. Plus there were reports that Troy Everett suffered some sort of an injury this week (1:17:00). Lastly, Lee doesn't care at all to hear about Casey Thompson right now. Grant defends Casey (1:24:50). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
We open the show by talking about what's coming up, plus Daylight Savings Time. We move on to Brent Venables' pre-Spring press conference where we learned that Justin Harrington won his appeal with the NCAA. Also some thoughts on Andrel Anthony (5:00). We've learned how to pronounce some new names, OU's hired a new offensive analyst, Venables had some thoughts on new co-DC Zac Alley, and Venables has improved as a speaker since becoming OU's head coach (9:40). There seems to be quite a bit of mid-year enrollees. Thoughts on David Stone and Jayden Jackson, Venables on a "General Manager", and what about the proposed rules involving comms inside player helmets, and a 2-minute warning (17:35). Venables on the defensive line as a whole, the offensive line, and the TE run (29:40). Did Venables hint at something that may change on special teams? There's going to be plenty of competition at kicker (40:00). Venables said Jalil Farooq has had a terrific offseason, as well as Jayden Gibson. More thoughts on the WRs (45:00). We shift to the player interviews where we learned that David Stone wants to be a neurosurgeon. Thoughts on Deion Burks, Sam Franklin, Bauer Sharp, Davon Mitchell, and Lee's jumping on the Danny Okoye bandwagon (48:00). We address a couple of comments from the WoE Facebook involving a former OU D-line commit, and one listener's thoughts on Lamar Jackson (1:09:00). We talk about Arch Manning opting out of the upcoming video game. Apparently EA Sports will not let you edit in the names of players who opt out (1:16:40). Taking a look at ESPN's Top 10 QBs for the 2024 season. Grant says this list shows it's a down year for QBs. Also some brief thoughts on the Top 10 RBs list (1:24:15). Finally, we wrap up the show with our latest thoughts on the OU men's basketball team (1:33:25).

The Sooners-Jayhawks football series is quite lopsided in OU's favor, especially recently. OU football has only lost to Kansas six times, but No. 7 almost came last time the game was in Lawrence two seasons ago. Expect the Sooners to take the Jayhawks seriously, even with an 18-game series winning streak (dating back to 1997). Should fans be concerned with OU's running game or missed field goal attempts? Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
What are the reasons for Miami Hurricanes recruiting getting off to a slower start this summer than in the summer of 2022? Why did Miami miss out on some key recruiting targets like Justin Scott, Jacory Barney and Moritz Schmoranzer last weekend? Host Alex Donno describes this unpredictable recruiting cycle and how other schools have closed the gap with Miami in terms of NIL. Donno answers questions from listeners on Subtext and on Twitter @LockedOnCanes. Will this year's roster turnover be successful? Are Miami still in the mix for top defensive line targets like Kamarion Franklin, Jayden Jackson, Artavius Jones, and LJ McCray? Will the Hurricanes land any “surprise recruits” in this cycle? Donno analyzes the offensive line and what the 2-deep might look like. Miami have made the finals list for 4-Star LB Chris Cole. Donno describes who will offer the Canes their top competition for the nephew of Rohan Marley. You can chat with Donno any time on our new Subtext SMS texting service. The summer official visit season is now over, but more BOOMs could still be coming to Ohio State.Ohio State already landed three big BOOMs from in-state prospects over the past week as quarterback Tavien St. Clair committed to the Buckeyes' 2025 class last Wednesday and Glenville teammates Bryce West and Damarion Witten joined Ohio State's 2024 class on Saturday. With Eleven Warriors recruiting reporter Garrick Hodge filling in for Griffin Strom on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays, we start the discussion by talking about each of those three commitments and why they were all priority targets for Ohio State. Then, we predict who will join West, Witten and Ohio State's other 14 commits in the 2024 class by playing another round of “In or Out” with the Buckeyes' top 18 remaining targets in the class. A brief summary of our predictions for each player, with more rationale for each of our picks in the podcast:Player | Garrick | DanCB AARON SCOTT JR. | IN | OUTS KJ BOLDEN | IN | INDE EDDRICK HOUSTON | IN | INDE DYLAN STEWART | IN | INS PEYTON WOODYARD | OUT | OUTCB KOBE BLACK | OUT | OUTCB MILES LOCKHART | IN | INLB KYNGSTONN VILIAMU-ASA | IN | INDT JUSTIN SCOTT | OUT | OUTDT JAYDEN JACKSON | OUT | INDE MARQUISE LIGHTFOOT | IN | INDE NIGEL SMITH | OUT | OUTOT BRANDON BAKER | OUT | OUTOT GUERBY LAMBERT | OUT | OUTOL DANIEL CRUZ | OUT | OUTWR JEREMIAH MCCLELLAN | IN | INWR ELIJAH MOORE | OUT | OUTWR JOSHISA TRADER | OUT | OUTLater in the show, we also talk about a few of the players who impressed us most across Ohio State's six high school football camps, our expectations for Brice Sensabaugh with the Utah Jazz and our thoughts on who did and didn't make Ohio State's Four Kings at linebacker. The full rundown: 0:47: Tavien St. Clair's commitment a prime example of how quickly things can change in recruiting 3:52: Ohio State will continue to recruit Ryan Montgomery, but he'll probably end up elsewhere 7:13: Buckeyes took St. Clair because of his potential – and because they knew he wanted in 15:53: Bryce West and Damaron Witten were always likely Buckeyes, but closing the deal matters 19:43: Vince Marrow's “groan man” tweet was not a good look for Kentucky 21:16: Witten's potential as a pass-catcher is obvious, but will he be a true tight end? 28:14: The race to land Aaron Scott Jr. remains too close to call between OSU and Michigan 31:18: Ohio State looks well-positioned with KJ Bolden, Eddrick Houston and Dylan Stewart 36:40: A Peyton Woodyard flip from Georgia to Ohio State looks less likely than it once did 37:56: Ohio State has gained ground with Kobe Black, but he'll still be tough to pull out of Texas 39:26: Miles Lockhart, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa trending toward OSU after visiting this past weekend 42:05: Chances of landing Justin Scott appear to be improving, but his recruitment is far from over 43:45: Jayden Jackson appears to be most likely DT commit, but he's not an Ohio State lock 45:26: Marquise Lightfoot is likely in at defensive end, which could leave Nigel Smith out 46:44: Top remaining offensive line targets could all end up elsewhere 50:10: Ohio State still in a good spot with Jeremiah McClellan, but Elijah Moore could be trending away 52:42: Buckeyes not out of the race for Joshisa Trader, but they have to get him back on campus first 53:51: Mylan Graham, Devin Sanchez, Jordon Davison among biggest stars of camp season 59:13: Brice Sensabaugh went around where we thought he'd go, though not a team we expected 1:00:44: Just establishing himself in the rotation will be Sensabaugh's top objective for year one 1:03:06: Tom Cousineau should have been one of the Four Kings at linebacker

Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The Miami Hurricanes are among the seven ACC members who are looking into the legal possibilities of leaving the conference. Miami, along with Clemson, FSU, UNC, NC State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech, will surely bring up their frustrations this week at the annual ACC spring meetings. The ACC has an unfavorable TV deal locked in through 2036 that will see their member schools earning at least $30 million LESS in revenue per year than members of the BIG 10 and the SEC. Host Alex Donno argues that a solution must be found here and explains why it's unlikely the ACC would be able to renegotiate their terms with ESPN. If these seven schools were to break off, would the SEC or BIG 10 even be willing to take new members? Or would these schools have to spearhead the formation of a new conference? Donno recaps the recent unofficial recruiting visits of safety Jaylen Heyward, Caleb Odom, Jayden Jackson and Ricky Knight III, who all seem especially high on Miami. This week's Real Pod Wednesdays is all about recruiting as Garrick Hodge fills in as co-host for this week's episode. With Griffin Strom on vacation, Garrick joins Dan Hope for nearly an hour's worth of conversation about Ohio State's recruiting efforts in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes. It's an apropos time for Garrick to join the show, as both Dan and Garrick were at the Under Armour Next camp on Sunday and the start of official visit season is just a few weeks away.A lot has changed since Garrick's last appearance on RPW in March, when Ohio State had just four commits in the 2024 class. The Buckeyes have 13 commits now and are ranked second in the 2024 rankings, giving Ohio State fans plenty to feel good about on the recruiting front. Michigan is the one team ranked ahead of Ohio State, however, so we spend some time evaluating to what extent the Buckeyes should be worried about the Wolverines' recruiting momentum. We also discuss our biggest takeaways from attending Sunday's camp, including impressive performances by Ohio State commits Garrett Stover, Mylan Graham and Sam Williams-Dixon, how Bryce Underwood and Ryan Montgomery continued to solidify themselves as Ohio State's top two quarterbacks in the 2025 class and how Ohio State can benefit from a surge in talent in its own backyard. Then, we play a game of “In or Out” with 16 of the Buckeyes' top remaining targets in the 2024 class: cornerbacks Bryce West and Aaron Scott, safeties KJ Bolden, Peyton Woodyard and Reggie Powers, linebackers Sammy Brown and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asu, defensive ends Dylan Stewart, Eddrick Houston and Nigel Smith, defensive tackle Justin Scott, offensive tackle Brandon Baker, guard Jordan Seaton, tight end Damarion Witten and wide receivers Jeremiah McClellan and Joshisa Trader. Finally, we shift gears to a bit of Ohio State basketball talk to discuss the two dominoes that fell last week to likely set the Buckeyes' 2023-24 roster – the addition of Penn State transfer Evan Mahaffey and Bronny James' commitment to USC – and share our thoughts on whether that roster is good enough for Chris Holtmann's squad to make a long-awaited breakthrough. The full rundown for this week's episode: 1:19: Garrick told us not to panic about only four commits in March, and he was right 3:02: But business needs to pick up in defensive recruiting 5:10: Michigan's improved recruiting makes its emergence as a championship contender more sustainable 7:19: Jordan Marshall is UM's only true recruiting win over OSU, but Wolverines remain aggressive in Ohio 12:50: Garrett Stover, Mylan Graham and Sam Williams-Dixon stand out at Under Armour Next camp 16:08: Xavier Johnson's role this year could lay blueprint for Williams-Dixon's role at Ohio State 20:43: Deontae and Devontae Armstrong, Marc Nave Jr. are O-line projects with promise 24:21: Ryan Montgomery is an OSU-caliber QB, but Bryce Underwood is too talented not to pursue 32:11: Jamison Kitna, Tavien St. Clair give Ohio State additional in-state QB options in 2025 class 35:51: Bo Jackson shows why he's a top target for Ohio State in the 2025 class 37:41: Sunday's camp showed there's no shortage of top talent in the Midwest right now 39:28: “In or Out” predictions for 16 of Ohio State's top remaining targets in the 2024 class 54:18: Edwin Spillman, Miles Lockhart, Zabien Brown, Jayden Jackson among other potential commits 55:28: Bronny James was probably never coming to Ohio State, but it would have been fun to watch 58:35: Which much-hyped prospect will have the better career: Arch Manning or Bronny James? 1:00:30: Ohio State basketball should be better than last year, but the Sweet 16 still looks like a stretch
