From MPR News, Art Hounds are members of the Minnesota arts community who look beyond their own work to highlight what's exciting in local art. Their recommendations are lightly edited from the audio heard in the player above. Want to be an Art Hound? Submit here.Dioramas of the Twin Cities' most beloved landmarksShari Aronson is the creative Co-Director of Z Puppets Rosenschnoz, whose work was featured on Art Hounds last week. Continuing the chain of paying it forward, Shari recommends a “charming project” by Felicia Cooper called “The Agency for Tiny Tourism,” which is on view at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre. Cooper was selected by the National Humanities Center's 2025 Being Human Festival. She conducted interviews asking people about their favorite Twin Cities landmarks and also led workshops to make dioramas of those landmarks. Visitors to the free exhibit can get a new view of the Twin Cities on Friday evening from 7 to 10 p.m., with additional showings Saturday and Sunday.Shari said: Everybody loves a diorama and peeking into a miniature world. I also am really curious to see which sites people depicted.— Shari AronsonA love of natural stone and kiln-fresh potteryKevin and Pam Bishop of Glenville enjoy the Bluff Country Studio Art Tour that spans southeast Minnesota each spring. Kevin is a custom wood furniture builder, and Pam calls herself an admirer of the arts. The art tour this year includes artists in 22 locations on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.The Bishops each have a favorite artist. Kevin likes the work of Ryan Palmer, whose studio in Lanesboro is called Livingstone Carver.Kevin said: He does very unique work, sculpting natural stone, and we're totally enamored with the outcomes of what stone can be with some correct tooling and knowledge of what you're working with.Pam recommends visiting Lanesboro potter Sue Pariseau.Pam said: She's got a really unique place where she designs and creates her pottery. What I really appreciate is every year she does a special invite so that we can open the kiln as part of the weekend and get to see what's been in the kiln, and have the first choice of what we want to maybe purchase while we're there. But as important as that is just being with other artists.— Kevin and Pam BishopGraffiti, chance and found object artKylie Linh Hoang is the assistant curator at the Minnesota Museum of American Art. Last week she attended the standing-room-only opening of graffiti artist SHOCK's gallery show at the Chambers Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. The exhibit “Daydreaming at Midnight” runs through May 10. It's a unique space for a show, dressed up with couches and plants for an “anti gallery space” feel, says Hoang, and the work on display derives from a unique artist residency. As Hoang describes it, SHOCK was on his way home from St. Louis when his car broke down in Springfield, Ill., on a holiday weekend, so he set about doing some graffiti work at an abandoned flour mill. The building owners took a liking to his work and invited him to create an art installation in the space.Kylie said: They couldn't pay him, but they did tell him that he could take whatever he wanted from the building, because it was going to be demolished. And so a lot of the work in this show is their assemblages and paintings on found materials from that mill. And so you'll see things that were see things painted on, like doors from the facility, signs from the facility. He also created a number of lamps from materials found at the facility. He taught himself how to wire lamps. It's a very cool assemblage of multimedia work.— Kylie Linh Hoang
Katie and Michele are back with a very special guest for the latest episode of Psychic On The Scene. Please welcome Jamie Pawlinga, owner of "The Sages Circle" in Glenville, NY. Jamie is also a interfaith minister.Jamie joins the show this week to talk about the possibility that Jesus was acutally a "Star Seed" or even possibly an alien. If you're wondering what a "Star Seed" is, don't worry that's explained during the episode. They also talk about what the Christ "consciousness" is, they talk about the mistranslation of The Bible and a whole lot more. Let's just say this, everything you think you know about your religion and it's teachings...we're about to blow it all out of the water and possibly rearrange all of your beliefs and thinking.
The transfer portal and new recruiting schedule has us sailing uncharted waters. Ahoy! A huge commitment! Ohio's top Class of 2025 offensive lineman - Maxwell Riley - is new offensive line coach Tyler Bowen's first commitment. How did it all go down and surprise even the recruiting pundits? Who better to ask than Bill Kurelic? And who better to provide context than Mark Porter? Nobody and nobody. And we have them! We've got a slightly different type of episode this time around. Since registration is about to open for Draft Animal Power Field Days 2024, the podcast crew looked back at audio gathered at Field Days 2023 at Shelburne Farms, VT and created an audio collage of sorts. In a corner room of Shelburne Farms' incredible Breeding Barn, I interviewed Jared Woodcock, Eric Westergard and Rick Eshuis. The indefatigable Caralyn Roeper did our guest introduction. Bear with us on the audio quality; there is some human and animal background noise going on from the event outside. Jared Woodcock is, in his own words, a father, farmer, forester, and ecologist. Among many other things, he manages private woodlots with horses under the moniker Timberdoodle Horse Logging. Eric Westergard is an ox drover, logger and carpenter in West Virginia and a perennial feature at Field Days despite the distance to his home turf. And Rick Eshuis manages the farm at Tillers' International in Scotts, Michigan. He is a longtime horse teamster who volunteered with Tillers' for many years before becoming an employee, and his passion for the work can be heard loud and clear in our interview.Don't forget to mark your calendars for Field Days in Glenville, NY, September 27th-29th. Friday features day-long intensive workshops focusing on forestry, fieldwork, mowers, and horse and oxen basics. Saturday is a mix of shorter workshops on all types of topics, and Sunday has a mix of family-friendly programs and the DAPNet's annual member meeting. You can learn how to register to attend the event (or sponsor, exhibit or volunteer at it) at draftanimalpower.org.Editing for this episode was provided by the stalwart Louis Menard and fabulous Alexia Allen.

DOMESTIC U.S. POLITICS REMAINS TUMULTUOUS. -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Red Sea/HOA: Tensions remain between the allies forming a maritime protection force in the Red Sea. Operation PROSPERITY GUARDIAN is the multi-national Task Force being led by the U.S. Navy to provide security for ships transiting the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. France, having initially agreed to take part and commit forces, has broken from the Task Force reportedly due to poor leadership and lack of organization. France will only be providing maritime security for French-flagged ships ATT. AC: This crisis has not only highlighted leadership problems within the U.S. DoD, but also the enduring problems within the US Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. The LCS vessels produced in this program were designed from the keel up with this exact mission in mind, but following decades of scandal, very few of them are functional. So far, only traditional Aegis support (via DDGs and CGs) has provided protection for vessels in the Red Sea. However, as OPN PROSPERITY GUARDIAN has not really gotten underway yet, the level of support the US Navy can provide in the region is not clear. Commercial shipping companies, either unwilling to wait for the US Navy to coordinate defenses, or lacking faith in this operation altogether, have continued to re-route ships around the Cape of Good Hope.-Homefront-USA: The recent scandal surrounding the removal of candidates from primary ballots has widened. Following the removal of Donald Trump from Colorado's Republican primary ballot, several conservative-majority states have threatened to remove Joe Biden from their ballots. Several Democrat-run states have already removed Democrat candidates from their ballots, only allowing one candidate (Joe Biden) to run in their primary elections.New York: A propane truck crashed into a railroad bridge in Glenville, resulting in a large explosion and subsequent fire. The driver remains hospitalized for severe burns. Initial reporting indicates the truck may have been over height for the bridge it was passing under.-Analyst Comments-It is difficult to determine how the situation will shake out regarding ballots. Right now, there is a lot of talk, but few actual documents to examine to arrive at a definitive analysis. It is not uncommon for state-level party leadership to ban certain candidates from running under their own party, but this year the number of Democrat-run states that have only allowed Biden to run under their banner seems higher. Likewise, the removal (or blocking in some way) of Republican candidates from running due to eligibility being removed via a Supreme Court decision is unheard of. The potential for divisions between states (and more importantly, state agencies) could lead to more serious flashpoints than standard civil unrest.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst: S2AEND REPORTNNNN

“But where is Becket's honour?”Before cameras could roll on Becket, the film's producers had to secure the screen rights to Jean Anouilh's original French play. Anouilh was initially hesitant to sell the rights, but the persistence of producer Hal B. Wallis convinced him to sign on. With the acclaimed playwright on board, the next task was finding a director who could bring the theatrical story to life on the big screen. The producers eventually landed on Peter Glenville, an experienced theater director who had recently made the jump to film. With Glenville set to direct, Wallis turned his attention to casting the two crucial lead roles. Several big names were considered, but it ultimately came down to Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. The two actors had never worked together before, but their chemistry and talent made them the perfect choices to embody this complex medieval tale of friendship and betrayal. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we kick off the 1965 BAFTAs Best Film From Any Source Nominees series with a conversation about Glenville's 1964 film Becket. Here's a hint at what we talk about:We dive deep into the fascinating central relationship between King Henry II and Thomas Becket. Their intimate friendship takes surprising twists and turns, and we examine how Burton and O'Toole bring nuance, humor, and gravitas to their performances. We also discuss how Becket grapples with weighty themes like loyalty, honor, and the separation of church and state. Though we take issue with some historical inaccuracies, we find the film an engrossing character study bolstered by its two talented leads. Here are a few other points in our discussion: Appreciating Becket's unexpected comedic tone and banter The riveting confrontations between Henry and Becket Questioning the importance of the Saxon/Norman divide Assessing Peter Glenville's brisk direction and Anne V. Coates' editing Burton and O'Toole's captivating performances Becket gives a revealing look at how friendship, politics, and religion collide for two powerful men. Where do the 2002, 2016, 2019, 1997 and 2014 units all rank? Tune in to the show to find out!
The summer official visit season is now over, but more BOOMs could still be coming to Ohio State.Ohio State already landed three big BOOMs from in-state prospects over the past week as quarterback Tavien St. Clair committed to the Buckeyes' 2025 class last Wednesday and Glenville teammates Bryce West and Damarion Witten joined Ohio State's 2024 class on Saturday. With Eleven Warriors recruiting reporter Garrick Hodge filling in for Griffin Strom on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays, we start the discussion by talking about each of those three commitments and why they were all priority targets for Ohio State. Then, we predict who will join West, Witten and Ohio State's other 14 commits in the 2024 class by playing another round of “In or Out” with the Buckeyes' top 18 remaining targets in the class. A brief summary of our predictions for each player, with more rationale for each of our picks in the podcast:Player | Garrick | DanCB AARON SCOTT JR. | IN | OUTS KJ BOLDEN | IN | INDE EDDRICK HOUSTON | IN | INDE DYLAN STEWART | IN | INS PEYTON WOODYARD | OUT | OUTCB KOBE BLACK | OUT | OUTCB MILES LOCKHART | IN | INLB KYNGSTONN VILIAMU-ASA | IN | INDT JUSTIN SCOTT | OUT | OUTDT JAYDEN JACKSON | OUT | INDE MARQUISE LIGHTFOOT | IN | INDE NIGEL SMITH | OUT | OUTOT BRANDON BAKER | OUT | OUTOT GUERBY LAMBERT | OUT | OUTOL DANIEL CRUZ | OUT | OUTWR JEREMIAH MCCLELLAN | IN | INWR ELIJAH MOORE | OUT | OUTWR JOSHISA TRADER | OUT | OUTLater in the show, we also talk about a few of the players who impressed us most across Ohio State's six high school football camps, our expectations for Brice Sensabaugh with the Utah Jazz and our thoughts on who did and didn't make Ohio State's Four Kings at linebacker. The full rundown: 0:47: Tavien St. Clair's commitment a prime example of how quickly things can change in recruiting 3:52: Ohio State will continue to recruit Ryan Montgomery, but he'll probably end up elsewhere 7:13: Buckeyes took St. Clair because of his potential – and because they knew he wanted in 15:53: Bryce West and Damaron Witten were always likely Buckeyes, but closing the deal matters 19:43: Vince Marrow's “groan man” tweet was not a good look for Kentucky 21:16: Witten's potential as a pass-catcher is obvious, but will he be a true tight end? 28:14: The race to land Aaron Scott Jr. remains too close to call between OSU and Michigan 31:18: Ohio State looks well-positioned with KJ Bolden, Eddrick Houston and Dylan Stewart 36:40: A Peyton Woodyard flip from Georgia to Ohio State looks less likely than it once did 37:56: Ohio State has gained ground with Kobe Black, but he'll still be tough to pull out of Texas 39:26: Miles Lockhart, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa trending toward OSU after visiting this past weekend 42:05: Chances of landing Justin Scott appear to be improving, but his recruitment is far from over 43:45: Jayden Jackson appears to be most likely DT commit, but he's not an Ohio State lock 45:26: Marquise Lightfoot is likely in at defensive end, which could leave Nigel Smith out 46:44: Top remaining offensive line targets could all end up elsewhere 50:10: Ohio State still in a good spot with Jeremiah McClellan, but Elijah Moore could be trending away 52:42: Buckeyes not out of the race for Joshisa Trader, but they have to get him back on campus first 53:51: Mylan Graham, Devin Sanchez, Jordon Davison among biggest stars of camp season 59:13: Brice Sensabaugh went around where we thought he'd go, though not a team we expected 1:00:44: Just establishing himself in the rotation will be Sensabaugh's top objective for year one 1:03:06: Tom Cousineau should have been one of the Four Kings at linebacker
With two more commitments from last weekend's batch of official visits, Ohio State now has 16 for its 2024 recruiting class. How large will that class grow -- and more importantly, who will be in it? Stephen Means gives Nathan Baird his predictions for what could be one of the highest-rated Buckeye classes in recent history. • (2:00) Did Ohio State need commitments last weekend to build momentum into the summer? • (4:00) Is the Glenville pipeline to OSU "reopened" or was it simply not flowing for a while? • (8:30) How crucial is the Bryce West commitment, and where is his long-term fit in this secondary? • (11:00) Does OSU also need a commitment from Aaron Scott to call cornerback recruiting a win for this cycle? • (12:30) Does landing West help OSU also get a commitment from Scott? • (14:30) What is the best comparable for Demarion Witten as an OSU tight end? • (16:00) Why did Ohio State need a two tight-end class for 2024? • (17:45) Discussing Buckeye Talk Subtext subscriber survey results on offensive and defensive recruiting. • (25:30) Who is the class' most important commitment so far? • (26:30) What is the biggest recruiting "win" so far for this class? • (29:20): Must underrated commitment to this point? • (31:00) Toughest battle ahead to hold on to an existing commit? • (32:15) Biggest positional need still unfilled? • (36:45) How large will this class be, and why will OSU take that many? • (38:15) Why does Stephen think the Buckeyes will get both KJ Bolden and Eddrick Houston from Buford, Georgia? • (43:00) What are the fall-back options at safety if Bolden is unavailable? • (46:30) Is edge rusher the biggest remaining need for this class and who will fill it? • (50:00) Why is this trending to be a linebacker-heavy class? • (52:20) Does OSU need two highly ranked offensive tackles in this class? • (55:30) Predicting the final pieces of the class. We're back with our June off-season episode and we've got future Ohio State schedules on our minds. We start off by discussing the 2023 schedule, including all announced start times so far and the known TV schedule. Will the atmosphere at Notre Dame be too much for a first-year Ohio State starter just a couple of games into their first season in command of the offense? I brought up the fact that the Buckeyes' home slate is a bit underwhelming this season, as there's not a lot of big matchups outside of Penn State. Most of the Ohio State's biggest games will take place outside of Columbus this season. We touched on the non-conference opponents the next couple of seasons, looked ahead at how the Big Ten is handling conference scheduling for the next two years, which games are protected rivalries, and how things might move forward if more teams are added to the conference. I propose (logistics be damned) that college football can add some drama to the schedule by doing Champions League-style draws for opponents and locations. Is it weird? Sure, but it could also be fun. Finally, we touch on the revitalization of the Glenville Pipeline after two recent four-star recruits from that high school have committed to Ohio State. Is it important to have a Glenville Pipeline? We think so, but not just Glenville. Just because the Buckeyes recruit nationally, it doesn't mean they can't put that fence back up around the state of Ohio. We'll be back next month, or possibly sooner if news warrants, as we remain in our offseason broadcast schedule. We'll return to our weekly format in August as we ramp up for the 2023 Ohio State football season. In the meantime, feel free to reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email. Michael Citro and Chip Minnich discuss the upcoming 2023 Ohio State schedule, start times, television networks, and how a first-year quarterback might handle the environment at Notre Dame in prime time. They also discuss the Big Ten's plans for scheduling over the next two seasons, including protected rivalries throughout the conference. Finally, they welcome the re-establishment of the Glenville Pipeline. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2626049/advertisement

Massapequa ,Long Island makes sure its high school students know that mindfulness is important. High School English teacher, Lisa Davi proves in all she does that mindfulness matters. Lisa has developed and implemented a high school English elective course, to help students learn to love themselves and go your own way. What's up everyone? Welcome to episode two hundred four of Above Ground Podcast. This week we talk mindfulness, Don Miquel Ruiz and The Four Agreements, High School English and how we can learn to connect and stay connected to ourselves. Lisa's inspired idea sprouted when she started to notice a shift in students levels of anxiety, overwhelm and loneliness. Inspired by Tim O'Brien's, The Things They Carried, Lisa proposed the question to her tenth grade pre -AP class of what do you carry everyday? Then the second day she asked what do you carry mentally and emotionally? This assignment was issued for three years and Lisa was noticing a difficult trend to ignore, our teens were hurting. It was being exacerbated every year by culture, social media and our unwillingness to change the way educate our adolescents. In a world that is on hyper speed and it's harder to compete on every level, we as parents have an important role to play. We have to acknowledge and fix our shit. We owe it to our children and the world. The foundation of Lisa's Mindfulness Matters class is The Four Agreements by Don Miquel Ruiz. The district even goes as far as providing the students who enroll in this class their own copy. In turn, they take it out and spread it to parent, grand-parent, caregiver and society. Into the Magic Shop written by Dr. James R. Doty, Rhonda Byrnes book The Secret, which is about the Law of Attraction, and Ruiz's sequel, The Fifth Agreement round out the reading list for her English elective. An elective that not only is making the school district notice. CBS 2 Long Island News recently spotlighted the class on a broadcast and is bringing attention to this young but hopeful and needed program to be picked up District wide. Lisa Davi is a true change agent exemplifying Gandhi's words of, be the change you wish to see. Cleveland Browns have added talent to their defensive end room but still have a need there as free agency pushes on. One NFL Dot Com writer believes that Cleveland and free agent Frank Clark would be a good fit. Clark was teammates with Juan Thornhill in Kansas City, where they both just won a Super Bowl. The Browns waved good-bye to Jadeveon Clowney before the 2023 league year even began, leaving a significant void opposite Myles Garrett. They've added a nice group of under-the-radar defenders up front, including Ogbo Okoronkwo, but it feels as if they can't be done signing additional contributors, especially considering how new coordinator Jim Schwartz likes to run his defense. A return home for Clark, a Cleveland kid who's looking to add another ring to his collection, feels beneficial for both parties -- and for Garrett. Clark was born in California but attended high school at Glenville in Cleveland. He went on to play at Michigan, where he was a second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in 2015. While with the Seahawks, Clark had 35 sacks over four seasons. His best season came in 2018 when he had 13 sacks. Clark has spent the last four years with the Chiefs; where the numbers have gone down but he's still been a good pass rusher. All three of his Pro Bowl nods have come with the Chiefs, the last in 2021. Clark had five sacks for the Chiefs in 2022. At this point in his career, Clark is on the back end of his career. He's still going to give a good pass-rushing threat, perhaps best in a depth role or late downs.Don't expect Clark to be costly, so the Browns could work it even with their recent acquisitions. At this time there is no smoke between the two sides, but that's not to say there won't eventually be a homecoming for a good fit.#BrownsBuilt BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Luck comes in many forms. For Ohio State, there is some of it involved with recruiting.
