An Iowan asked Vivek Ramaswamy how he'd appeal to atheists. The answer was awful., The Friendly Atheist, by Hemant Mehta, on Jan. 6, 2024, https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/an-iowan-asked-vivek-ramaswamy-howThe Non-Prophets, Episode 23.03.3 featuring Phoebe Rose, Infidel64, Jimmy Jr and KelleyVivek Ramaswamy faces the challenge of charming atheists while navigating the complexities of Christian nationalism and wokeism. The theatrics reach a high note when a question about school Bibles spotlights Ramaswamy's dance with inconsistency. Protagonist Justin Scott's quest for genuine answers turns the town hall into a political Vaudeville in this Heartland Circus.Infidel criticizes Ramaswamy's refusal to run against his opponent and highlights the candidate's dismissive response to the dangers of Christian nationalism. Ramaswamy's focus on wokeism and transgenderism, in contrast to addressing real threats, is questioned. The irony of a Hindu supporting white Christian nationalism is noted, drawing parallels to the UK's Hindu prime minister supporting the Anglican Church.Phoebe reflects on the peculiar dynamics when non-Christians support Christian establishments. The discussion expands to the importance of accurate storytelling, with politicians often embellishing events. The article prompts contemplation on whether genuine debates are still possible in today's society and the challenges of navigating entrenched positions.Kelley emphasizes the need for atheists to openly engage in public discourse to challenge politicians and build a political force. The discussion reveals the disconnect between politicians' buzzwords and their actions, urging atheists to scrutinize candidates' values. Jimmy criticizes Ramaswamy's disingenuous approach, particularly his attempt to downplay the destructive history of religion. He underlines the importance of not denying history to prevent abuses of liberty. The conversation explores the broader issue of politicians avoiding critical thinking and dismissing challenges from skeptics. The removal of Justin Scott from the town hall exemplifies the reluctance of politicians to face thoughtful questioning. The group underscores the significance of encouraging critical thinking, normalizing atheism, and engaging in meaningful conversations to foster change. In conclusion, the discussion revolves around the challenges atheists face in a political landscape where genuine debate seems elusive. The narrative highlights the need for transparency, critical thinking, and the active participation of atheists in shaping the political discourse.

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI's Pat Forde give their picks against the spread for college football's conference championship weekend and react to the return of Bobby Petrino in Arkansas.Last week's Michigan vs. Ohio State game peaked at 19.7 million TV viewers, so the guys discuss the continued rise in popularity of college football and how it is able to succeed despite so much internal dysfunction within the sport. College football's scandals and high amount of change in recent years may have fueled the boom, along with Texas coming back to relevance and the addition of Coach Prime at a Power Five school.Bobby Petrino has returned to the Arkansas Razorbacks football program after being fired from the team after alleged indiscretions with a staff member. The crew revels in the fact that both Petrino and Arkansas were able to agree to terms, but warn that head coach Sam Pittman must be sharp next year as Petrino has been known to aim for the big job.5-star defensive lineman Justin Scott has decided to flip from Ohio State to the University of Miami. While commit flips aren't rare, the reality of money openly being used to lure away commits is increasing in the new landscape of college athletics.Ross provides information on the future of college football conference championship games and whether or not they will continue in the future. The issue has become more divisive lately as more commissioners are leaning towards abandoning them, while others see the importance of the games when paired with a 12-team playoff.Sports Illustrated named Deion Sanders their Sportsman of the Year, so the podcast reflects on Coach Prime's first season with Colorado. Sanders was able to take the nation by storm with his unorthodox recruiting tactics, along with his bright personality. However, the Buffs also closed out the year 4-8 leaving, a sour taste in the mouths of the Colorado faithful.More quarterbacks have entered the transfer portal, most notably, Duke's Riley Leonard & Coastal Carolina's Grayson McCall. Leonard has already been projected as the next Notre Dame quarterback, but the guys are staying patient with their assessments, as the wild west of the transfer portal is just getting started. This year's College Football Playoff race is as tight as ever, so Dan floats the question whether or not the committee will select the four best teams. Will there be pushback against the inclusion of Florida State if they remain undefeated, considering their résumé?To close out the podcast, the guys give their picks against the spread for the #5 ranked Oregon Ducks versus the #3 ranked Washington Huskies, the #18 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys taking on the #7 ranked Texas Longhorns, the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs against the #8 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, the #2 ranked Michigan Wolverines versus the #16 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, the #14 ranked Louisville Cardinals against the #4 ranked Florida State Seminoles and as always, Dan, Ross & Pat give their locks of the week.1:00 - Introduction4:25 - 19.7 million viewers tuned into the Michigan-Ohio State game12:55 - Bobby Petrino hired as the new Arkansas OC27:13 - Justin Scott flipped from Ohio State to Miami32:05 - Will we see the end of conference championships soon?41:26 - Deion Sanders named SI's Sportsman of the year51:17 - More QBs are entering the transfer portal59:27 - Will the best 4 teams be in the CFP?1:10:52 - #5 Oregon vs. #3 Washington1:14:44 - #18 Oklahoma State vs. #7 Texas1:17:06 - #1 Georgia vs. #8 Alabama1:19:28 - #2 Michigan vs. #16 Iowa1:23:12 - #14 Louisville vs. #4 Florida State1:26:02 - Locks of the WeekFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger

Ohio State already has one five-star defensive lineman committed in the class of 2024. Justin Scott, who committed on Sunday, is ranked the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation. Justin Scott committed to Ohio State on Sunday, and Marquise Lightfoot picked Miami over the Buckeyes on Monday. It was two major defensive decisions as the Buckeyes try to get back to their old standard of recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. On this Tuesday Buckeye Talk (Happy 4th) Doug Lesmerises and Stephen Means break down the state of talent acquisition on defense. That starts with a long look at the decision of top-20 player and 310-pound defensive tackle Scott to choose the Buckeyes. Then it's onto edge rusher Lightfoot picking the Hurricanes over Ohio State. In that are long debates about the recruiting of defensive line coach Larry Johnson; of what the Buckeyes have done lately in the Chicago area (where both Scott and Lightfoot are from); and about the last time Ohio State landed a player like Scott. The last part of the episode then focuses on comparing Ohio State defensive recruiting in 2024 to previous OSU defensive classes. And it outlines the major defensive targets still on the board for the Buckeyes, when they are scheduled to commit, and who the Buckeyes are recruiting against. We start Rapid Fire by discussing which was the bigger weekend shocker: wide receiver Isiah Canion decommitting from Notre Dame or defensive lineman Justin Scott committing to Ohio State. * Penn State has been in the Big 10 for 30 years. If they had it to do over do you think they would do it again...stay independent or join a different conference? * Fill-in the blank...If you could switch places with anyone in sports for 24 hours it would be BLANK. * In their prime, which of these college running backs are you taking: Reggie Bush, Saquan Barkley, Adrian Peterson or Zeke Elliott? * Is here a better Independence Day themed movie than Will Smith's Independence Day? * The Nathan's hot dog eating contest is tomorrow. We are not sure if Larry Johnson is a big Kool Moe Dee fan, but regardless, he must be rhetorically asking all of his doubters "How ya like me now?" On Sunday, Ohio State landed 5-star defensive tackle Justin Scott from Chicago. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Scott is ranked as the No. 4 defensive lineman and the No. 21 overall recruit in the country in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite. It was a great get for Johnson and the Buckeyes. (And to be clear, several staff members assisted in the recruitment.) But the good news likely will not stop there for the Buckeyes in terms of defensive line recruiting. 5-star edge rusher Dylan Stewart was Crystal Balled to OSU by Steve Wiltfong and Brian Dohn on Sunday. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Stewart is the No. 3 edge and No. 13 overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the Composite. And we of course cannot forget that 5-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston has been Crystal Balled to the Buckeyes by Wiltfong and Bill Kurelic for a few weeks. If a recruit has a Fong Bomb and a Dean Bomb, you know what time it is. The Buckeyes still have the No. 2 class in the country for 2024, but now they have the highest average player rating in the country at 93.7. Georgia has the No. 1 class in terms of overall points, but the Bulldogs' average player rating is a bit lower than OSU's at 93.2. Dave Biddle flies solo on today's show to discuss all of that and more. That is coming your way on the Monday 5ish. The Miami Hurricanes have landed a class of 2026 commitment from IMG Academy cornerback Ksani Jiles. Jiles, heading into his sophomore season, impressed coaching this past week while filling in as a starter for 5-star CB Ellis Robinson IV. Jiles surprisingly made a very early pledge to Miami on Monday evening. Host Alex Donno brings on resident scout Brian Smith to discuss what Jiles brings to the table, where he will soon rank as a recruit, and why he decided to commit so early in the process. Alex and Brian discuss how Miami is trending positively in the recruitment of class of 2024 5-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland. The Southern California Mater Dei standout will be making his official visit to The U on the weekend of June 9th. How does Breland compare with other top Miami targets on the interior defensive line like David Stone and Justin Scott? Who fits best in Lance Guidry's defensive scheme? Brian gives his scouting report on new Miami target, 4-star edge Elias Rudolph. He explains why Tuscaloosa County 4-star running back Kevin Riley, a top Miami target, would be a valuable asset at The U. You can chat with Donno any time on our new Subtext SMS texting service.
