Ready for an all-night sexual odyssey? We're going LONG on Stanley Kubrick's final masterpiece, Eyes Wide Shut (1999) which stars then real-life Hollywood A-list couple, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Trace has a lengthy production history for this Guinness Record-holding film, which appears to be making fun of Cruise's own stardom and sexuality? Plus: high praise for Kidman's two confession scenes, selling the film on sex, the cast that could have been, secret societies on and off screen, and talk of Kubrick "edging" the audience for 2.5 hours. Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer Toronto FC got a late penalty kick against the run of play, and Alejandro Pozuelo converted to snap New York City FC's six-game unbeaten streak, winning 1-0 at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night. NYCFC dominated the first half with 10 shots to TFC's three, including the best chances of the half, but Alex Bono came through with some timely saves to keep the teams level going into the locker room. Gary Mackay-Steven proved a particular threat in the first half, going just wide on a 26th-minute shot, and then setting up Alexander Ring for a 42nd-minute attempt that Bono was able to wrap up. The game continued similarly in the second half, with NYCFC looking the stronger side and getting the better chances. As in the first half, however, neither team was able to break through. Both teams brought on impact subs late, including Heber, whose 65th-minute shot on goal was the most dangerous chance of the half for the hosts. TFC had an enticing 82nd-minute chance on a Pozuelo free kick, which Omar Gonzalez headed just wide of target. The match took a sober turn in the 84th minute when Heber went down with an apparent knee injury and had to be stretchered off the field. Then, just shortly after play resumed, subs involved themselves in the storyline, as Justin Morrow fired a shot that pinged off Nicolas Acevedo's outstretched arm. That led to the penalty shout, which Pozuelo made good on. At the final whistle, NYCFC took all three points in Foxborough. Toronto FC delivers them all, as they dispatch the Portland Timbers 4-1 at BMO on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It was another impressive display at home, lead once again by the creativity of Giovinco, with the finishing of Justin Morrow and support of Victor Vasquez. With some missing pieces, the Reds still managed to look dominant for long stretches and the second half completely took the heart of the Timbers to walk away with all three points. It was a critical result ahead of next weekend's clash against Eastern Conference contenders Chicago Fire that will open up the title race and playoff positions.
The Reds make history and appear to be a team of destiny as they came back not once, but twice, to get past the Montreal Impact 7-5 on aggregate after extra time. It was one of those rare instances where there were no weak links as key and role players all contributed on an amazing result. From Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore to Justin Morrow and Nick Hagglund, it was a match and performance that will not be forgotten. Up next is the MLS Cup as the Reds host the Sounders and look to finish the job on what has been an incredible ride thus far.
Finally! After eight years of trying, the Seattle Sounders are in MLS Cup after long last. Wait, finally? Long last? David is happy for the Cascadians, but he’s not sure why they’re being made out to be the Chicago Cubs of MLS. Jordan Morris may have some common ground with Michael Jordan, however, after his Flu Game performance helped take the club he grew up supporting to the brink of a title. Morris calls in to give an update on his stomach bug, describe the celebrations in the locker room and at the airport and look ahead to the biggest game of his life on Dec. 10. Plus, are the Rapids set up to compete for years to come or was this a flash in the pan? Who will the Sounders play in MLS Cup? We know it will be a Canadian team, with Toronto hosting Montreal on Wednesday (7 pm ET; FS1 in the US, TSN/RDS in Canada) facing a 3-2 aggregate deficit. Should Greg Vanney start Will Johnson and Tosaint Ricketts? Is Didier Drogba on the brink of a Flu Game himself? The guys dive in full steam, then hit up TFC defender Justin Morrow for the lowdown on the paint fiasco in Montreal, the genius of Giovinco and the opportunity to host MLS Cup at BMO Field. In the mailbag, big news in Los Angeles as the Galaxy name a new general manager and give some hints about their future head coach. Plus, US national team, Designated Player and Cascadia chatter.
Giovinco once again steals the show, as the Italian DP drives the Reds to a 3-1 victory over San Jose. It was a step up from last weekend as TFC finished more chances and the weak links were stronger in their performances. It was another fine outing from Justin Morrow and Luke Moore has proven to be valuable in Jozy Altidore's absence. Next weekend away to DC United will prove to be a strong measure of how far this team has progressed through the first third of the season.
On this weeks #COYR Podcast Devang & Gareth discuss TFC vs. FC Dallas, the Canadian Men's National Team and chat Game of Thrones with Justin Morrow.
Michael Bradley's favourite ref once again has a hand in the Reds dropping points as his straight red on Justin Morrow was the catalyst in a 2-0 loss to the Columbus Crew. It was far from a perfect match from TFC though, as the Crew looked to be the better side and with a man advantage made their chances count in the second half. There will still be questions out of this game heading into Salt Lake in two weeks, especially defending and trying to get the offence firing on all cylinders.
San Jose Earthquakes defender Justin Morrow discusses his career path, the club's response to the coaching change, Lebron James, and dread locks. In the second segment national soccer reporter Kyle McCarthy talks U.S. Men's National Team and MLS.
