Scott Wiener, founder of Scott's Pizza Tours, has made a name for himself as one of the most knowledgeable and passionate pizza experts in America. (He has the Guinness Record for the world's largest collection of pizza boxes -- nearly 2,000.) This week, Dan and his family join Scott on one of his famous Sunday tours, in which pizza pilgrims board a school bus not knowing what pizzerias Scott plans to take them to. On the tour, Dan gets to watch Scott in action: figuring out his route on the fly, taking the temperature of pizza ovens with an infrared thermometer, and debunking NYC pizza myths. Plus, we have a big update on Scott's personal life since he was on the show in 2018. The Sporkful production team includes Dan Pashman, Emma Morgenstern, Andres O'Hara, Grace Rubin, Kameel Stanley, Jared O'Connell, and Giulia Leo. How do you stay positive under duress? It doesn't matter how adventurous, fit, risk tolerant or determined you are. At some point, you will find yourself in a situation where it becomes hard to stay positive or even to find the will to keep going. It could be as simple as sitting on a cold wet chairlift, riding your bike on a long climb that feels endless or out on a hike that seems to go on forever.Joining us in this episode to explore how we can effectively manage our mental state in the face of discomfort is Cyril Derreamaux. Cyril is a long-distance solo kayaker, adventurer and speaker.Cyril has just completed solo kayaking, unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean on his way from the Canary Islands to Martinique. This 3000-mile journey took Cyril 71 days, 14 hours and 57 minutes.Cyril has also paddled his custom-made kayak solo from California to Hawaii. This is a trip that took him 91 days which he completed in 2022.Cyril is a two-time World Record Holder who has several other long-distance trips under his belt including being part of a four-member rowing team that also paddled from California to Hawaii.Cyril is an epic speaker and is perhaps one of the most passionate guests we have had on our show and he offers some excellent advice!Key TakeawaysHow do you maintain a positive mindset in the face of adversity:Self-Awareness: If we want to coach ourselves, we need to be able to recognize when our discomfort is becoming an anchor that is dragging us down and what is needed to push us forward.Being the Self Critic: Requires us to ask ourselves if the pattern of behaviour that we have is good or bad. For example, is how we feel negatively impacting our performance and becoming a barrier to success?Getting a Third-party Opinion: This means asking others for their feedback. Sometimes we need to reach outside ourselves to get an objective assessment of how we are doing. This can involve asking our friends, colleagues or even feeling out our guests.Reframing: This involves confronting the situation in a way that helps us to change our perception from something that might be negative to something that is more positive. This can help us to adapt more effectively mentally.Adapt and Execute: Means putting all of this into action and moving forward. Once we recognize this, we can start to take steps to manage our mental and emotional state so that we can better cope with our situation and keep us going in the direction that we need to be headed.Guest BioFrench born, now American citizen, Cyril Derreumaux considers himself a citizen of the world. Fluent speaker of 6 languages (and counting!) Cyril is attracted to learning and discovering new cultures and places all the time. This natural curiosity of people and places led Cyril to backpack around the world at 25 for one year. With $7,000 and a can-do attitude Cyril embarked on this life changing experience that permanently changed his outlook on life and how he wanted to live it.A move to California following his profession in the wine business led Cyril to begin exploring the world of outrigger canoeing and kayaking and reignited a childhood passion for windsurfing and all things water related. He soon began pushing his limits further and further in ultra-endurance water events. A serendipitous find of the Great Pacific Race which advertised “you don't need to be a rower to row an ocean” led Cyril to embark on his biggest challenge at the time, rowing in a team of 4 men from California to Hawaii which resulted in in a Guinness Record for the fastest ocean rowing crossing of a team in 39 days and again changing Cyril's perspective on what was possible.Always a dreamer, Cyril soon found himself thinking about his next expedition. Inspired by the stories of maverick ocean explorers, Cyril began to...

Ready for an all-night sexual odyssey? We're going LONG on Stanley Kubrick's final masterpiece, Eyes Wide Shut (1999) which stars then real-life Hollywood A-list couple, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Trace has a lengthy production history for this Guinness Record-holding film, which appears to be making fun of Cruise's own stardom and sexuality? Plus: high praise for Kidman's two confession scenes, selling the film on sex, the cast that could have been, secret societies on and off screen, and talk of Kubrick "edging" the audience for 2.5 hours. This summer, I'm riding around the world to try and break the women's Guinness World Record (currently held by Jenny Graham at 124 days). I have to ride a minimum of 18,000 miles (29,000km). The route isn't set and that's part of the fun! I asked Bea & Luca, expert route builders and race organizers, to design my track through Europe. In this episode, we go over the rules and talk about the route.I don't love planning, but every time I look at a map, I'm filled with excitement for the big ride! I'm starting on May 26 in Chicago and I'll be publishing an episode every day-- 10-20 minutes to share stories from the road.

He's not a professional comic but laughter comes easy for David Thomas. It's actually one field that he hasn't tried professionally, but would love to some day. Thomas is a Global Professional Speaker and a CEO Presentation Skills Coach. In case you haven't heard about his crazy memory abilities, he's also an International Grandmaster of Memory, broken Guinness record for reciting Pi to 22,500 digits, became US Memory Champion and so much more. From the age of 4, David recalls the nightly sexual abuse he suffered from his alcoholic mother, Gillian and then the years of physical abuse from his step-father. David had a younger brother to protect, so he kept this secret to himself to be certain that his younger brother would not be exposed to any of it.Unfortunately, David's mother died in her early 50's, almost 21 years since the time of this recording. She died at a young age due to an alcohol induced heart attack. David was happy that he had put his neglect behind him in order to move forward prior to his mother's death. They had rekindled their relationship. As if the abuse wasn't enough, David also attempted suicide twice, but was not successful. When asked if this was life changing or a sign that he was meant to live a long life, his response was, "no, not at all, it meant that I was just terrible at trying to kill myself." Again, gallows humor, but it's easy for him to make light looking back so many years later.David wanted to help others who had suffered abuse under the hand of loved ones, so he wrote what turned out to be a #1 bestselling book in the UK, "Tell Me Why Mummy"- An inspirational true story of one man overcoming enormous odds including sexual abuse from his alcoholic mother to choose his own path in life and become and become a truly exceptional human being.Thomas says "you only have 3 choices in life as far as moving on after an abusive, challenging upbringing-You carry on living with your problems, but it will eventually take you down. You remove itOr you manage it"Therapy and researching and writing his book help free himself from the horrors of his childhood.Website: https://www.themotivationspeaker.com/david-thomasWebsite: https://www.creatingpresentationrockstars.com/ppl-homepage "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers and the roles they play in our lives. It was sort of the Segway before the Segway: a commuter monorail system balanced by a series of gyroscopes. While this innovation never took off, there are still modern-day companies working to revive the concept. Find out more this week, along with an apocalypse of cicadas, ungrateful fans sue Madonna, cold Tesla batteries, video proof that plants communicate with each other, Portland's biggest eyesore buildings being sold, and controversy around Bobi, the Guinness Record holder of "world's oldest dog."

A popular YouTuber (Fidias https://www.youtube.com/@FidiasPanayiotou w/ over 2.5M subs) just received the Guinness Record for "longest time spent consecutively in VR". Congrats to him! https://youtu.be/cUmZywem8VEIt was a 30 day straight experiment. I don't know how he did it. On his last hour, he interviewed me for his channel. It was an honor, not only to be included in such a challenge, but to be the last activity he did prior to removing his VR! Enjoy this episode where Fidias interviewed me for his channel.

Partners Chris Macguire and Steve Wright Jr. have been friends since they were six years old, and both have a deep love of two things: Gaming and ice cream. In fact, Chris' love of ice cream was so well-known that he received two ice cream makers as a wedding gift. A gift that he and his wife began experimenting in ice cream-making at home. Some time later, Chris' trials and errors yielded braggable versions that others could enjoy too. So when he wanted to change careers and had accrued a good amount of savings, it made sense to combine the two passions. So now, we can enjoy playing classic video games while enjoying every last spoonful of the frozen treats at Tubby Robot in Manayunk. The well-known, iconic, Old-City Philadelphia-based Panorama Wine Bar has been delighting visitors for years. Since their opening in 1990, the focus on Italian cuisine and wine has won them awards, and even a place in the Guiness Book of World Records. So, we are more than happy to speak with Panorama's Executive Chef, Anthony DiSabato. Anthony, who grew up and began working inside the kitchens of South Philadelphia joined us to talk with co-host Gene Blum about the love of Italian culture, wine, and what Chef DiSabato's personal touches to the menu options at Panorama Wine Bar! Chef Joseph Burton and his wife, Amanda Ngangana, both worked in the hospitality industry, with Chef Burton formerly working at Foreman Wolfe's Johnny's Downstairs, and Giada De Laurentiis' GDL Italian. And after traveling to Bastille, France, they wanted to bring French cuisine to their hometown. So, when the couple decided to open their restaurant, they both had a clear idea as to what the focus would be: Rustic French cuisine. However, the pandemic delayed their ability to open and they considered opening a food truck; fortunately they found a spot that they loved and persistence and perseverance prevailed and the couple opened Rooted Rotisserie in Baltimore, MD.

Soy Checkoff: https://www.unitedsoybean.org/More About Jim Rogers: https://www.jimrogers.com/Today's episode features Jim Rogers. I will first admit that this episode is pretty selfish. I found Jim's books, particularly “Investment Biker” “Adventure Capitalist” and “Hot Commodities” in college when I was trying to figure out where my interests were and where I might like to start my career. I already had an interest in agriculture, international travel, and investing, so they had a huge impact on me. In fact, I decided to start my career in commodities in no small part because of his writing. So, when I had the chance to interview him on his thoughts about the world generally, I jumped at it. This one might be a bit different from our normal content because Jim is looking at broader economic and geopolitical drivers from an investor perspective and not so much as a “ag person” but I think his perspective is extremely valuable. The other reason this one might be a little bit different is I couldn't help but become starstruck by him. He really had that big of an impact on me at a formative age. If you weren't a wannabe investment geek in college like I was, let me give you some biographical background. Jim Rogers, a native of Demopolis, Alabama, is an author, financial commentator and successful international investor. After attending Yale and Oxford University, Rogers co-founded the Quantum Fund, a global-investment partnership. During the next 10 years, the portfolio gained 4200%, while the S&P rose less than 50%. Rogers then decided to retire – at age 37. Continuing to manage his own portfolio, Rogers kept busy serving as a full professor of finance at Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and, in 1989 and 1990, as the moderator of WCBS's ‘The Dreyfus Roundtable' and FNN's ‘The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers'.From 1990-92, Jim Rogers fulfilled his lifelong dream: motorcycling 100,000 miles across six continents, a feat that landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records. As a private investor, he constantly analysed the countries through which he travelled for investment ideas. He chronicled his one-of-a-kind journey in “Investment Biker: On the Road with Jim Rogers”. Rogers also embarked on a Millennium Adventure in 1999. He travelled for 3 years on his round-the-world, Guinness World Record journey. It was his 3rd Guinness Record. Passing through 116 countries, he covered more than 245,000 kilometres, which he recounted in his book “Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip”. His book, “Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably In The World's Best Market”, was published in 2004. Another of his books “A Bull in China” describes his experiences in China as well as the changes and opportunities there.

Hour 3: We continue our wall to wall coverage of the arrest of a man in connection with the Gilgo Beach killings. We have the name but can't say it yet. Gio wants to say the name on air but feels he can't yet. Gio wonders what will become of the house of the serial killer. Has to be knocked down, right? After they collect evidence of course. Jerry returns for an actual sports update and starts with ‘What is this?' It involves Aaron Rodgers. He signed a pregnant woman's stomach. Stugotz from The LeBatard Show confused country singer Jake Owens and Aaron Rodgers. Jerry has a clip from comedian Vic Dibetetto about all the injuries the Yankees have. We compared Stephen A. Smith on TV to Stephen A. Smith on his podcast. Richard Sherman will likely replace Shannon Sharpe on ‘Undisputed'. Jerry has a clip from a few years ago when he was a guest with Skip Bayless and it was quite personal. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer's friend, Dr. Eric Freeman calls in to tell us how he broke a Guinness record in golf. Gio also has a picture of the mugshot of the guy that was arrested in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders. We also took a call from a guy that lived across the street from Joel Rifkin.

When Patty Mercier jumped in Loren Upton's 1966 Jeep CJ5, she knew she was in for an adventure. The man behind the wheel was on his fourth attempt to cross the Darién Gap. The first three trips had ended in death and disaster, but Upton, an intrepid adventurer, would not be deterred. In addition to his determination to cross the treacherous Darién Gap entirely on land, Upton had raised the stakes on this voyage. For his fourth attempt, he decried that he would drive one American-made vehicle around the world. The route would be from North America's Northernmost point to South America's southernmost point. The only water crossing would be the South Atlantic. They would continue from the Southernmost point in Africa to the Northernmost point in Norway. The trip started in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, on 15 June 1984. They traveled more than 56,000 miles and took five years to complete the drive around the world. The crossing of the 125-mile Darién Gap was an astonishing 741 days. The Sand Ship Discovery, the name that Upton gave his intrepid Jeep, reached the Sletness Lighthouse near Gamvik, Norway, On 4 July 1989. The couple earned a citation in the 1992 Guinness Book of Records for the “First All-Land Crossing Of The Infamous Darien Gap From Yauiza Republic of Panama to Riosucio, Columbia 22 February 1985 to 4 March 1987.” Loren Lee Upton died at 87 years old on 9 August 2022 Patty Upton is searching for a museum to house Sand Ship Discovery, the 1966 CJ5, and for a writer to capture the story of their around-the-world drive. Cassie, a robot developed by Oregon State University researchers, is essentially just a pair of sophisticated mechanical legs. But those legs just set a Guinness World Record for the fastest 100-meter dash run by a bipedal robot. Running – even quickly – might seem an easy task for a human, but it takes considerably more effort to teach a machine to do so without tripping or veering off course. Jim then speaks of his views on the current state of the economy, what markets you should be looking to invest in, the importance of history to the economy, and where he plans on traveling to next.
