Morning Footy: A daily soccer podcast from CBS Sports Golazo Network
This Thursday, the USMNT takes on Jamaica in the first leg of the CONCACAF Nations League Quarterfinals. And featuring for Jamaica will be Aston Villa's right winger Leon Bailey. It's been a year since Bailey has played for the Reggae Boyz but now he is back after a highly publicized feud with the Jamaican Federation and former head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson, but new head coach Steve McClaren reportedly convinced Bailey to return. What does this mean for the Jamaican side and how much of a threat will he be against the USMNT this coming Thursday? Dan Rolinson and Mat Kendrick answer your questions on today's episode of Claret & Blue, after Aston Villa notched up another impressive win, this time against Fulham. Aston Villa sliding doors moments: https://pod.fo/e/220504
James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson and Everton fan Sean Norton to discuss their clubs and FPL assets of interest ahead of the Gameweek 4 meeting between the two clubs at Villa Park. Ollie Watkins has underwhelmed so far this season, now yellow flagged and key provider Leon Bailey is injured... so why is James considering captaining the Villa talisman in Gameweek 4? Facing a pointless Everton who are struggling without defensive lynchpin Jarrad Branthwaite is a good place to start; but is it really all that bad for The Toffees, who cone into a brilliant fixture run after the trip to Villa, and there is one Evertonian Sean intends to go for on Wildcard! And Villa's good run of fixtures has already begun, with Morgan Rogers proving popular despite zero returns so far and there will be interest in their defensive assets too, but there's a warning to avoid. Day 4 of Correspondent Week concludes with the team that finished in the Top 4 to secure Champions League football as James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson to discuss The Villains fantastic achievement and their FPL assets before the big kick off. Ollie Watkins was phenomenal last season and a Euro Semi Final hero for England. Currently owned by roughly half of FPL managers he's the club's clear talisman. Villa have a challenging opening two so those without may want to add the forward in GW3, but it might not be easy for those who go without it might not be so easy to bring him in without a Wildcard. Leon Bailey also had a great season and at 6.5 will appeal, particularly for those without Watkins, but with UCL football to look forward to how reliable will his minutes be? And might Morgan Rogers, currently the only 5.0 midfielder owned by over 3% of managers be the better way to cover some of the Villa attack? There's also assessment of Villa's defensive assets including Ezri Konsa and Ian Maatsen and an assessment of the club's summer transfer business. Which as been, interesting. Edge of the Box, in association with UltimateFan, returns this week as Dan Bardell, Ali Maxwell and Jonathan Wilson preview the weekend's Premier League action. It's a monster weekend in the Premier League as Liverpool host Manchester City in a decisive clash in the title race. The Reds boast the second best defensive record in the division and we ask whether the Virgil van Dijk-Ibrahima Konate duo is the best in the league. With the latter now a doubt, how will that impact Liverpool on Sunday?Liverpool are certainly getting the job done in their efforts to remain in the title race as they leave it late on to wrap up all the spoils and we assess the importance of their never-say-die attitude to maximise stoppage - or should we say Kloppage - time. The panel also take a look at Jeremy Doku and whether City are better without the Belgian winger in the side? We round off that section with a combined XI.It's an impressive undercard to the main event, too, as Aston Villa host Tottenham. Dan, Ali and Jonathan give praise to Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins, the Premier League's most effective attacking duo, and discuss Brennan Johnson's role as super-sub for Spurs. All that and more is discussed on Edge of the Box this week!In association with sponsors UltimateFan, new users can gain 500 bonus coins when they sign up with the code TN1420. Nottingham Forest put in a poor performance as they lost 4-2 to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday as they failed to build on their win against West Ham United last time out. The Reds went into the game without Ibrahim Sangare, Ola Aina and Willy Boly after they all returned from AFCON with injuries. Nuno Tavares was also ruled out with injury as Moussa Niakhate started the game at left-back and struggled, as many did. Goals from Ollie Watkins, Douglas Luiz (2) and Leon Bailey saw Forest well beaten even though they got it back to 3-2 with goals from Niakhate and Morgan Gibbs-White.
