The final chapter of a trilogy that they never started. When you let the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” Button randomly pick the games, you are bound to play some sequels. On this episode, the button ramps up the absurdity by making our hosts play the final game in the action role-playing game trilogy developed by Square Enix. Will Tom and Chris stand any chance of enjoying this game with two full games of lore missing from their collective consciousness? Will the gameplay mechanics be engaging enough to overcome this substantial handicap? The Fabula Nova Crystallis subseries has a devoted fanbase, so perhaps things are not as dire as they seem. Let's see how far our hosts get with just one hour on the clock and discover if they will keep playing to learn how the story ends! What do you think? Let us know! With special guest Fletch in tow, we delve into one of the strangest, fascinating, and underrated Final Fantasy entires: Lightning Returns. Fletch and Paul sign the praises of a game that is over the top in all of the best ways, introduces innovative mechanics, and features best emotionless girl Lightning as the harbinger of the apocalypse for a delightfully ridiculous world. Unfairly maligned at its release, the game has become a cult classic in recent years, and for good reason. Join us as we discuss death cults, chicken seers, Louis Vuitton cross-promotions, and the brilliance of a battle system built on costume changes.
