The desire to share life with a partner doesn't just disappear when we choose to start our families on our own. And it doesn't have to. Today's new episode is a beautiful reminder that both things can be true: you can want motherhood and partnership, and you don't have to give up one to have the other. At 35, Erin Russell was faced with the hard realization that her family line would end with her if she didn't pursue parenthood soon, so she started seriously considering solo motherhood. But right as she was preparing to begin fertility treatments, life threw her a curveball — she met someone.Erin was clear about what she wanted and gave the relationship space to grow. But when it became obvious they weren't aligned on having kids, she made the powerful decision to walk away. She ordered donor sperm the very next day.Becoming a mom didn't erase Erin's hope of sharing life with a partner. Just two months after her son was born, she started dating again — not out of pressure or urgency, but as a way to reconnect with herself, enjoy adult time, and stay open to love. Now that her son is two and she's happily in a relationship that feels like the right fit, Erin reflects on what it's been like to still want partnership as a solo mom by choice, and how she's navigating love, parenting, and a changing sense of identity all at once.In this episode, we talk about:How Erin knew it was time to pursue solo motherhoodThe challenges of navigating IUI, IVF, and insurance hurdlesWhy "just surviving" the newborn stage isn't enough, and how building a support system made all the differenceThe guilt and reality of sending your baby to daycare as a solo momDating as a solo mom: why Erin started early, how she set her own pace, and what she looked for in a partnerHow she's weaving her new relationship into her solo mom lifeAnd why the grief of doing it alone doesn't just disappear once your baby arrivesWhether you're considering solo motherhood, already parenting, or wondering if dating might fit into your life someday, Erin's story is full of honesty, hope, and real-world encouragement for wherever you are on the path.Want to connect with Erin Russell?Follow Erin on InstagramCheck out Erin's writingRead Erin's article on SMBCs (featuring me as an interviewee!)

360 lipo is a technique that targets the sides, front, and back for the most cinched waistline possible. But what makes plastic surgeon Dr. Luke Swistun's transformations so incredible? It's all about the difference between two positions and three. The typical approach to this liposuction technique usually involves just two position changes: starting on your front and then switching to your back, but Dr. Swistun swears by a three-position, side-side-back approach which gives better access to the waist, allowing for precise, artful body sculpting that leaves traditional two-position liposuction in the dust.Find out:How different techniques impact procedure costsWhy more positions = more opportunities to sculpt your dream bodyReal patient experiences that prove the three-position differenceThe expert mentors who shaped Dr. Swistun's world-class techniqueLinksSee photos of Dr. Swistun's 360 lipo patient AmieHear from Dr. Swistun's 360 lipo patients on our previous episodes, Gabriela's Dream Body: From WTF Did I Do To 100/100 Would Do This Again and Patient Taylor- Surprisingly Smaller Than ExpectedMeet San Diego plastic surgeon Dr. Luke SwistunLearn more about 360 lipoLearn from the talented plastic surgeons inside La Jolla Cosmetic, the 20x winner of the Best of San Diego and global winner of the 2020 MyFaceMyBody Best Cosmetic/Plastic Surgery Practice.Join hostess Monique Ramsey as she takes you inside La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre, where dreams become real. Cell therapy research and manufacturing are driving demand for automated high-throughput equipment to improve quality, reduce costs, and shorten the development cycles of innovative treatments that save lives. But what factors shape a startup's journey from the lab to commercialization? In Episode #35 of the Speed to Data podcast, Key Tech Business Development Manager Kelly Parker leads a panel of industry experts who discuss high-throughput automation in cell therapy screening and manufacturing.Daniela Hristova-Neeley, Ph.D., is a partner at the advisory firm Health Advances, where she is a leader in the diagnostics and life sciences tools practice.Blair Morad is Senior Director of Engineering at Cellino, a startup developing autonomous biomanufacturing technology for personalized cell therapies.Nova Syed is a founder and angel investor in the deep tech and healthcare sector. Most recently, Syed was the founding VP of Product at Mekonos, a developer of silicon nano-needles for cell therapies.Need to knowThree factors drive requirements in cell therapy screening:· Customers are studying a huge variety of biological systems and drug targets. · Business requirements drive the need for faster and cheaper therapy development.· Meeting regulatory standards demands high-quality, reproducible data.In manufacturing, meeting GMP makes design requirements even more complex as the product must:· Improve flexibility and scalability.· Improve quality control and traceability.· Lower manufacturing costs.· Reduce human interaction to improve efficiency and quality. The nitty-grittyGiven the many competing business, market, and regulatory requirements, the instrument design process inevitably forces developers to make tradeoffs. The panelists agreed that quality is table stakes, which means technologists and business leaders must balance time, cost, and scope.“You have to be ruthless when it comes to prioritizing your differentiator,” Hristova-Neeley said.In Morad's experience, understanding the organization's core competency is essential to focusing on the right problems.Data that made the differenceThe three panelists shared their lessons learned from hard experience in the healthcare technology business.Get early feedback from the market. “Product-market fit doesn't just happen,” Syed explains. “Unless you get feedback directly from the users and the customers, you don't have the data to iterate to the next cycle.”Hristova-Neeley agreed. “It's always important to hear what the customers have to say. Automation is certainly important, but it's not the only thing that is going to solve how we do cell therapy manufacturing or cell therapy development.”Look for outside expertise. “When you're working with the right experts,” Morad said, “they know how to ask the right questions that are helpful to move forward.” A good startup employs many intelligent people, but they won't know everything about everything. Find outside partners who have already built the assays, workflows, automation modules, and other elements outside your core competency so you can focus on your innovations.
Have you been discouraged in your wellness journey? Maybe you feel like you're putting in a lot of effort, but not seeing the progress you hoped for.Or maybe you feel like there's a million more things you should be doing in your health journey. Perhaps you're so worried about achieving "perfect health" that you're stressed out and haven't been able to rest and enjoy your time (by the way, perfect health doesn't exist). In a world where there's so much new information all the time - new trends, new studies, and new fad diets - sometimes it's important to go back to the basics and steward your body by focusing on nourishment, rest, and joy instead of trying to keep up with all of the latest biohacks. In this episode, Jordan gives encouragement for your health journey, shares Biblical insights about health, and talks about foundational health practices that helped her get through the stress (and lack of sleep) that comes with having young children. You'll Learn:How foundational health practices can help your body handle stressorsWhat to do when you feel like you're not doing enough for your healthWhy small shifts make a huge differenceThe impact that purpose, joy, and rest have on your healthWhat the Bible teaches us about the foundations of good healthWant to dig deeper into this topic? But here it is, finally, the follow-up to How to Sleep Well, in which we address the bane of many who would sleep well: peeing in the night.Did you know one in three adults over 30 and more that half of adults over 50 wake up to pee at least once a night? The interruption damages the precious rhythm of sleep, especially later in the night when getting back to sleep again is harder. The problem plagued my dad for decades, and it was bladder issues that eventually took him. His peeing was a major source of misery, especially in his later years, and my eyes still well up now when I think how much pain and discomfort he was in. Unfortunately, like father like son and all that, I have my father's bladder. I'm only 55. I've been having to get up in the night for at least 25 years now. It is not uncommon for me to have to get up as many as five times. On a really bad night, it can get to ten.For years, I accepted this as my genetic destiny. But with this sudden turnaround in my health and fitness—in which I have rid myself of many things I thought I was stuck with—and not wanting to follow in Dad's footsteps, I've put some considerable effort to this issue in the last few months.I'm delighted to report that I have made real progress. Twice this week, I have got through the night without having to pee at all. It's been 25 years since that happened for me, and the exhilaration I felt the following morning was quite something. I even got 100% sleep scores on my Whoop. If buying gold to protect yourself in these uncertain times, let me recommend The Pure Gold Company. Pricing is competitive, quality of service is high. They deliver to the UK, US, Canada and Europe or you can store your gold with them.Five things I did which made a differenceThe condition of having to pee in the night is called nocturia. I started by going to the doctor, where I had all sorts of tests: blood tests, urine tests, and the infamous finger up the bum. Everything came back fine. No prostate or bladder issues. The only thing they found was that my kidney function was sub-optimal.There are five stages of kidney function, with stage 1 being optimal and stage 5 being failure. I'm stage 2, “mildly reduced function,” which is not ideal, but it's also not abnormal for someone my age. In any case, it's often asymptomatic. So if everything is mostly working down there, why all the peeing? I have a theory which I'll come back to in a moment.By the way, while I remember: fasting does not help. When fasting, if you're like me, you will consume loads of liquid—soup, herbal tea—to fool your body into thinking you're full. All that liquid means a lot of peeing. Also, fasting puts your body into a state of ketosis, which makes your kidneys work harder. Ergo more peeing. However, the health benefits of fasting, especially weight loss, are so great that, in my view, they outweigh the increased peeing.1. SupplementsI tried a million different supplements:* Pumpkin seeds* Linseed / Flaxseed* Walnuts (also good for Omega 3)* Zinc* Selenium* Pygeum Africanum* Magnesium* Vitamin D (though I also read that it makes you pee more—you can't win)* QuercetinI'm not convinced any of them made a significant difference, but I mention them because they were part of the process.2. BoozeSorry, but it's a killer. Especially, beer. Lots of liquid plus the diuretic effects of alcohol. Try not drink as much, try and drink your booze earlier in the day, away from bedtime. Best of all, don't drink at all.If you need help cutting down on booze, get a Whoop. I explain how they help here. 3. Fluid ManagementConsume your fluids earlier in the day. Avoid drinking anything for at least three hours before bed, even if it means going to bed a bit thirsty (though that might not be great for your kidneys). This makes a huge difference - it will reduce your peeing by as much as 40% I'd say.At the same time as making sure I didn't drink three hours before bed, I started doing two other things. I think it these three things in tandem that made the difference.4. Getting your body out of the habitOften I'd wake up in the night with the feeling that I needed to pee, when I didn't even need to. I began to suspect that my body had simply got into the habit of waking up. I needed to break the cycle. How to do that?

Christian Pluralism: Living Faithfully in a World of DifferenceThe term ‘pluralism' has been subject to misunderstanding – even misuse – over the past several years. Some read or hear the word and think simply of a multiplicity of opinions. Others think of a sort of moral relativism that affirms your truth and my truth, no matter how contradictory they may be. Others still may think of this as some sort of squishy interfaith unity that denies matters of ultimate importance. In a conversation with John Inazu, Trillia Newbell, and Michael Wear we dive into the meaning of pluralism and how it is that Christians in particular can live faithfully amidst a world of difference. These careful writers and thinkers help us begin to grasp a more robust vision for Christian pluralism:“We are all actually called to be reconcilers. Any one of us who have professed faith in Jesus Christ, we are called to a ministry of reconciliation. That means a proclamation of the gospel. So sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to the world around me, to my neighbors, to my friends...I believe that the greatest love that we can extend to others is Jesus.” - Trillia NewbellWe hope you're inspired by this conversation about hope, justice, faithfulness, and love, even in the midst of change, challenge, and conflict. This podcast is an edited version of an evening conversation recorded in 2020. “What can you do today to feel more alive and fulfilled with meaning and purpose?” Our pop culture and the media is flooded with methods and strategies to help us become happy, or at least happier. Today, let's discuss this happiness trap and reconsider and reframe this relentless pursuit of happiness. Instead of searching for happiness, I suggest we pursue deeper meaning, purpose, significance and fulfillment in our lives. Feeling happy is a temporary state. Being driven by meaning and purpose is a lasting state, regardless of circumstance. In this episode of Power Presence Academy, I talk about the pursuit of meaning over happiness, emphasizing that happiness is fleeting and often disconnected from a sense of fulfillment. I also talk about the importance of making a difference in our environments and how impactful actions may not always coincide with feelings of happiness. I remind listeners about the power of choice and encourage leaders to reflect on their strengths and use them to make a positive impact in the world.
