Senior Pastor Tony Foreman from First Baptist Church Williamstown continues the sermon series “The Daring Direction of the Church”. This week’s message “The Main Things” comes from Acts 3:17 , 1 Corinthians 2:2 and Romans 15:5-7 and talks about how we prioritize the elements of our faith.
In this episode, I discuss the top 7 ways to put up better run and ruck times on test day...that have nothing to do with your fitness levels and/or your training plan.Of course, training is crucial for improving fitness, and I've discussed countless ways to get faster at both of these activities in the past. But these 7 tips are things you can implement to hit a PR if you hypothetically had a time trial TOMORROW.Check it out to learn more.Topics:1. Keeping the Main Things the Main Things Pt 5 - Good Communication When we communicate, there are two primary necessities: To Be Heard and To Be Understood. The task of each Christian here is to learn to speak about your relationship with Jesus in a way your friends can understand. “Even musical instruments like the flute or the harp, though they are lifeless, are examples of the need for speaking plain language. For no one will recognize the melody unless the notes are played clearly…And it's the same for you. If you talk to people in a language they don't understand, how will they know what you mean? You might as well be talking to an empty room…in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words that will help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language…if unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your meeting and hear everyone talking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.” 1 Corinthians 14: 7-9; 19; 23 NLT “Later that same day, Jesus left the house and went down to the shore, where an immense crowd soon gathered. He got into a boat, where He sat and taught as the people listened on the shore. He told many stories…” Matthew 13:1-3 NLT “Here is another story Jesus told…” Matthew 13:24 NLT “Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, He never spoke to them without using such parables.” Matthew 13:34 NLT Good Communication Matters Because… The Message of God to the World Matters! Because the Message Matters So Much… We MUST be Missionaries to this Culture “When I am with the Jews, I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with those who follow the Jewish laws, I do the same, even though I am not subject to the law, so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with the Gentiles who do not have the Jewish law, I fit in with them as much as I can. In this way, I gain their confidence and bring them to Christ…When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so I might bring them to Christ” 1 Corinthians 9:20-23 NLT “Live wisely among those who are not Christians, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answers for everyone.” Colossians 4:5 NLT Because Someone was Missionary to Us and Made the Message Clear… We have the Responsibility to Pass the Message on to Others Anyone can have a fresh start with God through Jesus Christ
KEEPING THE MAIN THINGS, THE MAIN THINGS Friendship WHY BUILD CARING FRIENDSHIPS 1. Because Every Person Needs a Friend Who Cares, I'll Become a Wingman “Some friendships don't last, but some friendships are more loyal than brothers.” Proverbs 18:24 The type of friend I am, is the type of friend I'll attract. 2. Because Every Heart Needs the Warmth of Love, I'll Be a Fire Builder “When they got there (to shore), they saw that a charcoal fire was burning and fish were frying over it, and there was bread...” Now come have breakfast!' Jesus said.” John 21:9, 12 NLT “Once we were safe on shore, we learned that we were on the island of Malta. The people of the island were very kind to us. It was cold and rainy, so they built a fire on the shore to welcome us and warm us.” Acts 28:1,2 NLT 3. Because Every Seed Needs a Chance, I'll Be a Gardener “A farmer went out to plant some seed. As he scattered it across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The plants sprang up quickly, but they soon wilted beneath the hot sun and died because the roots had no nourishment in the shallow soil. Other seeds fell among thorns that shot up and choked out the tender blades. But some seeds fell on fertile soil and produced a crop…” Matthew 13:3-8 NLT “Well, some of you planted. Others of you came along later and gave water or care…then God caused it to grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-8
KEEPING THE MAIN THINGS THE MAIN THINGS Part 3 - Knowing Scripture TEN REASONS TO TRUST THE BIBLE: 1. It's Honesty 2. Its Preservation 3. Its Own Claims 4. It's Miracles 5. It's Unity 6. It's Historical and Geographical Accuracy 7. It's Endorsement by Jesus Christ 8. It's Accurate Predictions of Future Events 9. It's Survival 10. It's Power to Change Lives Protects us from sin- vs. 11 “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Guides us through life- v. 35 “the path of your commands…is where my happiness is found” Gives wisdom about suffering- vs. 71 “The suffering you sent was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your principles.” Helps me understand life- vs.104 “your commandments give me understanding” Gives me direction- vs. 105 “your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path” “Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 NLT STEPS TO CHANGING YOUR LIFE WITH GOD'S WORD: 1. READ IT 2. PRAY AS YOU READ (Psalm 119) “Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your law” vs. 18 “Teach me your principles” vs. 26 “Give discernment to me” vs. 125 1. MEDITATE AS YOU READ 2. RESPOND AS YOU READ 3. READ SHORT SECTIONS AND READ SLOWLY 4. LIVE WITH ONE VERSE FOR THE DAY
KEEPING THE MAIN THINGS THE MAIN THINGS- Pt 2 Knowing Christ and Keeping Him First CHRIST CENTERED--We want every aspect of our lives to reflect our devotion to Jesus Christ and we value gathering for worship to express that devotion. WHY KNOW JESUS AND PUT HIM FIRST IN YOUR LIFE? “At this point many of His disciples turned away and deserted Him. Then Jesus turned to the twelve and asked, ‘Are you going to leave, too?' Simon Peter replied, ‘Lord, to whom would we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life. We believe them and, and we know you are the Holy One of God.'” John 6:66-69 NLT Because ‘Almost' Devotion Isn't Enough Because He Put You First “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NIV He Advocates Our Case “My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if you do sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. He is Jesus Christ.” 1 John 2:1 NLT Because He Cares “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about what happens to you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NLT Because He Gives Us His Perfection “For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard.” Romans 3:23 NLT “This High Priest (JESUS) of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same temptations we do, yet He did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15 NLT “He is the kind of High Priest we need because He is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has now been set apart for sinners, and He has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. He does not need to offer sacrifices every day like the other high priests. They did this for their own sins first and then the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when He sacrificed Himself on the cross.” Hebrews 7:26-27 NLT It's important to have His Perfection Because: One Day He's Coming Back To This Planet Jesus said, “When everything is ready, I will come and get you.” John 14:3 NLT Because One Day I'll Die and Will Want His Perfection at the Gates of Heaven “Blessed are those who wash their robes so they can enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life.” Revelation 22:14 NLT

What are the main things we need to be focused on? What do we need to prioritize? The Bible has answers to these questions, and they are not obscure -- the Bible answers quite plainly. The primary call of the believer is to reach others and answer the Great Commission, to fulfill evangelism. Just as we were once sinners but have been raised to life in Christ, we are called to spread God's word to help bring about this second birth for others.

Alleah's strategy was to dismiss everything she learned while studying business and instead intentionally manage her thoughts and emotions as a way to foster inspired action. In today's Daily Mind Medicine, @taylorawelch reflects on managing a busy schedule while prioritizing invaluable aspects of life, such as family and relationships. Addressing the perennial challenge faced by entrepreneurs in balancing professional and personal spheres, Taylor emphasizes the importance of building effective systems to maintain life's crucial elements. With a renewed focus on content creation and a glimpse into a personal audio message from a loved one, this episode underscores the significance of keeping meaningful reminders close to maintain balance and purpose.
Hugh argues that Americans are losing focus on what is the opening phase of at least a major regional war begun on 10/7 by the depraved barbarians —losing their focus because it's been diverted by the (very) important stories of the anti-Semitism at Harvard, Penn, etc and of course the presidential election. Today's pod points to Commentary's pod (which should be a daily listen) and to news sources that should be in everyone's email each morning, “News Items” and “Daily Chatter” substacks. If you listen to this pod and Commentary and you spend 20 minutes reading News Items and Daily Chatter every M-F you will be better informed than 95% of Americans and 99% of “journalists” who love horse races and polls but not facts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode of Daily Mind Medicine, Taylor emphasizes the importance of staying focused on one's goals, even in hectic times. He reminds us that everyone makes mistakes, but finding a balance between taking calculated risks and avoiding them is essential. It's worth noting that it's not challenges that deter people; it's losing sight of their motivation.

Offense, or taking things personally, is one of the most common tactics the Enemy uses to tear down relationships. When somebody feels hurt in a relationship, their tendency is to pull away and isolate, which then leads to an even greater rift between the two parties. This is true for all relationships, but mentoring relationships have the tendency to experience this on a much more frequent scale. Oftentimes, the mentee is testing the relationship to see exactly how much the mentor will tolerate before they leave. Because of this, it's so critical that a mentor can navigate the mentoring relationship without taking offense; because offending things WILL happen. Zach and John are together on the podcast this week to talk through the dangers of taking offense, some practicals on how to avoid becoming offended in the mentoring relationship, how to stay in the mentoring game for the long haul, and what it looks like to focus the relationship on the main things.Purchase John's Book:Mephibosheth! Pastor Jim teaches us the importance of focusing on the main things.
Acts 2: 41 - 47
If you're struggling to lose weight, especially that last 10-15 lbs of belly fat, then there's a number of possible reasons why. Sugar is the most obvious reason for the majority of people, but it's not the only reason why. So what else could be causing the weight gain, or blocking your ability to lose the fat? It could be some foods that you've been told are healthy, things like grains and other lectin-containing plants that are driving up your inflammation. What about seed oils? They are massive drivers of inflammation, and anything that drives up inflammation will drive up weight gain. Artificial sweeteners should also be avoided, even though I've seen some arguments lately about how you need huge amounts to create issues. But I've also seen enough research to say I don't agree with that, even though it is probably a better option than the sugary sodas for weight loss, but not the chemical exposure. High fructose corn syrup - stay away from this at all costs if you want to be healthy and not carrying extra weight! Find and eliminate any underlying biotoxins (living and nonliving) as they lead to inflammation and leaky gut which leads to hormone problems and central obesity. This is especially important for those who feel like they already live a super clean lifestyle. Decrease stress! Stress creates cortisol which keeps you stuck in a fight/flight response, which in turn sends your hormones crazy and leads to weight gain. Are you exercising, and more importantly doing the right exercise? All of the above are more important than working out, because you can eat like garbage and workout in a calorie deficit and you will lose weight, but you'll also be loaded with inflammation. Ultimately, you can't outrun a bad diet!
While yesterday's episode was about what things you should not focus on in business, today we are going to explore a contrasting perspective, a different viewpoint, if you will. Today's master class is centered around simplifying matters and keeping your focus on the key elements that truly matter for running a successful business. This discussion will primarily focus on the tactical level, rather than the mindset level. These are the activities you need to consistently engage in or continue to possess, nurture, and develop in order to effectively manage your business. Let's delve right into it. Show notes: [09:27]#1 Your business needs a list. [20:10]#2 You need a core offering. [26:25]#3.A marketing system. King David called for a census that he imagined would bring pleasure, but instead, it brought pain and God's wrath. Seeking to intervene on behalf of his people, David built an altar, offered sacrifices, and asked that he alone would bear the punishment. While much remains unexplained in this passage, Alistair Begg points out that God's sovereign plan is revealed in His mercy as well as His wrath. Ultimately, only Jesus' intervention can save us from ourselves, our sin, and God's wrath.
