For just about everywhere else in the US, July 8 is smack in the middle of summer. At BMO Stadium, however, July 8 marked the return of Fall, as "Air Senegal" himself, Mamadou Fall, made his return to the Black and Gold after a loan spell in Spain with Villareal. Needing depth at CB, Steve thrust him into the XI for our match against San Jose. Both superstars, Cristian Espinoza and Denis Bouanga, traded first-half goals en route to a 1-1 scoreline after 45, but the fireworks were just beginning. With over 30 minutes left, SJ keeper Daniel was assessed a straight red for a handball well outside of the box, giving LAFC an advantage for the remainder of the match. But despite our (best?) attempts, we couldn't muster much against their second keeper, J.T. Marcinkowski, and LAFC is forced to swallow a bitter point at home. Also on this episode, we get stats with both Filly and Scarf, we wish happy birthday to a founding member of our club, and we keep one eye on Sandy, Utah and the beginning of the Chicho Era at RSL. Enjoy Episode 265, and we will see you in just a few days for the tussle against St. Louis!

This matchup had all the makings. Number 1 vs. Number 2 in the West. The two highest scoring clubs in the league. A club looking to strengthen its grip on the shield vs. a club on the rise. Black and Gold vs. Verde and Black. But in the end, the team that was #1 played like number two, and Austin nips further at LAFC's heels after a 4-1 drubbing. Let's get through this together, Black and Gold faithful, here on Episode 212. With Filly in LA and Scarf in Colorado, LAFC looked to avenge their only home loss of the year by beating Austin in their friendly confines. Physical from the start, Austin defended their home turf with authority. Just 8 minutes in, the match's first dust up, featuring Gareth Bale, who made his first start for LAFC, Muri, Jon Gallagher, and others would be a harbinger of things to come. After a nasty foul by Eddie Segura at the half-hour mark, Diego Fagundez's stunning effort on the ensuing free kick put the home side up 1-0. Somehow, it only made #8 on SportsCenter's Top 10. Another big dustup in the 38' would feature three yellows and a whole lot more shoving. The half would end 1-0, but the fireworks had just begun.  As the second half kicked off,  Austin would waste no time putting their stamp on this one. Two minutes, Maxi Urruti gets on the end of a great cross by Nick Lima to put the home side up two. Three minutes later, Austin would strike again off an LAFC turnover. Urruti with the steal, Fagundez splits the defense right through the middle, and it's Urruti on the other end of it yet again for a brace. If there was a roof on Q2 Stadium, it would have been obliterated. As the wound gushed for LAFC, Diego Fagundez would call time of death at about the 59'. A beautiful pass from Diego to the probable MVP and Golden Boot winner, Sebastian Driussi, for his 19th, would put the home side up four, yes, four goals. LAFC would muster a bit of life during the final half hour. Subbing on Escobar, Chiellini, and Mahala, and later Danny Trejo, Cherundolo found some energy for his club. LAFC would answer just a minute into the final half hour, with Chicho slotting home a rebound. He had numerous other solid attempts, including a possible-penalty-turned-post ringing, and got plenty of help from Mahala, Trejo, and a revitalized midfield, but it was far too little, far too late. LAFC would fall and fall hard, 4-1. Also on 212, we bid farewell to Brian (with his song coming in 213!), good luck and see you soon to Mamadou Fall, and hello to Tello! Scarf checks in from Colorado, Filly heads off to Motley Crue, Oka Nikolov visits with Max and Vince, Vegas plucks another from the Academy, the USYNTs are covered in Black and Gold, and there's a blood drive coming up at the Banc! Check out all this and more on Episode 212, sponsored by FLEX Power Tools! We'll see you in a few short days for 213.

Episode 210 is upon us, and before we talk about the match against the Quakes, we have an announcement! Defenders of the Banc is proud to announce the podcast's first official sponsor: FLEX Power Tools. Yes, FLEX, the very same front-of-kit sponsor of our beloved Black and Gold! A huge thank you to everyone in the FLEX family: Joe, Katie, Brady, Vince, Taylor, Shane, and everyone involved in making this dream a reality.Meanwhile in San Jose, the Black and Gold take an… interesting lineup into PayPal Park to take on the Quakes. While Max and the back line were relatively normal, the midfield trio of Mendez-Acosta-Blessing and seeing Ryan Hollingshead's name next to Chicho and Mahala on the front line left both Filly and Scarf saying “Wait… what?!” (It's back!)LAFC would go down early on a Benji Kikanovic goal, set up by the theme for the match, an attack from the right by San Jose. After a couple of near misses by Jeremy Ebobisse and Chicho Arango, we head to half down, but not out, 1-0. Surprisingly, no halftime changes were made, but that wouldn't stop LAFC from leveling the match. After some much-needed heroics by Crepeau, it was time for more Mahala magic! A cheeky chip of Marcinkowski in the 54' was all LAFC needed to grab a point back on the road. Or at least we thought. After subbing in Carlos Vela, Jose Cifuentes, Ilie Sanchez, and Gareth Bale, the momentum immediately swung our way, but double yellows on Ilie and Kellyn, coupled with the wunderkind, Cade Cowell, entering the match, spelled trouble for the Black and Gold. In the 77', Cade Cowell fired a one-timer with authority to put the home side on top for good and send PayPal Park into a frenzy. San Jose had just won their MLS Cup. Ilie Sanchez all but sealed the victory for SJ, picking up his second yellow in just 15 minutes, assuring he will miss the match in Austin, but a game LAFC squad wouldn't relent. The front line of Bale, Chicho, and Vela were clicking as LAFC had a few chances to pull one back, but it was too little, too late, and just like that, the win streak was over. This episode definitely meanders through the first few bits! Will Cifu, Mamadou Fall, and/or Brian Rodriguez be on their way out? Are more players coming in? Why is Filly calling out Tony Robbins (again)? Did we really just talk about the return of Shaft Brewer, Jr. to American soccer? And did the boys really get to bring back “Name That Perez”?! What an episode!

LAFC takes the show on the road as the Black and Gold take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto. Filly and Scarf cover everything that went down in Salt Lake and so much more here on Episode 207!As LAFC heads to the All-Star break, there was one more foe to vanquish before a little break, the cobalt-and-claret clad club from Salt Lake. On paper, it was a bit of a mismatch: No Damir Kreilach, no Bobby Wood, and no recently-acquired Danny Musovski, all out with injury. Recent acquisitions Bryan Oviedo and Braian Ojeda have not yet joined the squad, and the club just jettisoned David Ochoa to the nation's capital. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale, Brian Rodriguez, Latif Blessing, Mamadou Fall, Ryan Hollingshead, and the two Sebastians, Mendez and Ibeagha, we all NOT starting for an uber-talented LAFC squad that is still waiting on the arrival of their newest shiny toy, designated player Denis Bouanga. Would the matchup play out as lopsided as it looked on paper? Yes.LAFC wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as Chicho Arango puts away a Vela free kick with a stunning back-heel goal. RSL equalized just three minutes later off a goal from Cordova, but LAFC got right back out in front when Kellyn Acosta connected on a banger from outside the box. The effort by Mahala to keep that play alive allowed LAFC to enter the half on top.RSL started out the second half on the front foot, pushing LAFC's backline and controlling much of the possession. Not much got through, but RSL definitely pushed the pace out of the locker room. After a near miss in the 50', when Ilie had to clear one off the back line, LAFC grabbed control of the game because of another great play by Mahala. After beating his man 1v1, a perfect pass across the mouth of the goal found an open Chicho for a 3-1 lead, giving Arango 11 on the season. Just when you thought you had seen everything, Italian superstar Giorgio Chiellini tried his hand(s) at volleyball in the 69th minute, earning himself a yellow card and a chat with the AVP. Just when you thought it was safe to grab a snack or a drink, Gareth Bale provides another moment of brilliance, running around 2 defenders on his way into the box and drilling one past Zac MacMath for the fourth goal of the match. The team really was the star; it was the team in Black and Gold. LAFC remain on their pace to break more records and win their first cup. Also on this episode, Scarf has a crazy idea: replace the three LAFC All-Stars with three different LAFC players! Filly has a little trouble with Franco Escobar's first name while the boys both chat about the other leagues beginning their seasons. It's a fun one here on 207!

After a bit of a break, MLS, LAFC, and the Defenders are back at it, and boy does it feel good to be back. Sitting just 2 episodes away from 200, Filly and the Scarf recap all the goings-on in the Emerald City. It's Episode 198 of "The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth!", Defenders of the Banc. In what we hope will be a preview of the eventual Western Conference Final, LAFC travels to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Sounders, the recent CCL Champions and very familiar foe of the Black and Gold. Scarf, Nina, and Panda all traveled to Lumen Field for the match, while Filly held it down at the official watch party near USC. LAFC looked to remain at the top of the table while MLS celebrated Juneteenth league-wide. One storyline going into the match would be who would NOT be playing. For Seattle, Joao Paulo is out for the season while Yeimar and Ruidiaz would be out for the match. On our side of things, while we still await the debut of Eddie Segura, we were missing Brian Rodriguez due to travel issues (he's getting his green card) while Kellyn Acosta, Carlos Vela, Mamadou Fall, and Franco Escobar all would begin the match on the bench. After a beautiful rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing", the match played out a bit like a heavyweight fight, with both prizefighters feeling each other out for the first half. Seattle had more opportunities of quality, but both sides would enter the half without a goal. It was Seattle's major offseason acquisition, Albert Rusnak, who would score first, off a perfect pass from... Maxime Crepeau. It was a gaffe that Maxime immediately copped to, and one that looked like it would doom LAFC on the road. However, just 6 minutes after making his LAFC debut, Danny Trejo, the kid from Mendota, battled for a header that found Chicho in the box. With Stefan Frei badly out of position, Arango's header goes over Frei but under the bar for a 79th minute equalizer, and LAFC would take a point home with them from the Emerald City. Quite the debut for Trejo, LAFC's first round pick of a year ago. Also on this episode, much like Bo Jackson in the 90's, Filly gives himself a new nickname, Scarf has his greatest moment at a pool table (with witnesses!), and both The Ghost and Three Umlauts get a mention! Just two episodes away from another huge milestone, so stay tuned for all the fun, but in the meantime, enjoy Episode 198!

The Black and Gold train rolls through Columbus, Ohio on our way to 8 matches in the month of May. Some called it a trap game. Some were concerned about our injuries, or our lack of depth. Some lamented the impacted schedule. And some who were there to see it likely doubted it would even happen in the first place. But the path to greatness is often littered with tiny but important steps, and LAFC took many in Ohio on the way to three points and our 8th win of the season. The Black and Gold dispatch the Black and Yellow, 2-0, after a lengthy lightning delay and a restart. On this episode we are joined by Jonathan Reimer, one-third of the Shoulder to Shoulder team. As part of a fundraiser to raise money for the Mauricio “Mo” Fascio Futsal Court in SELA, Jonathan is here to educate us on the three incredible expressions of tequila that are being sold as part of the fundraising effort. Check out flaskfinewines.com, or hit up Jonathan directly at @boozeology on the socials for more info!Columbus controlled much of the first half (and the game, for that matter), but several quality attempts were thwarted by The Wall, Maxime Crepeau. LAFC had a quality opportunity as well, but the Mamadou Fall header fell right to Eloy Room. The first half ended nil-nil. Coming off the bench at half, putting on their capes and tights, were Carlos Vela and Brian Rodriguez. After also inserting Cifu at the hour mark, all the major players were set for LAFC to get to doing what they do best, score. Because of the incredible pressure applied by Chicho Arango, Darlington Nagbe and the Crew coughed up the ball not once, but twice, leading to both Carlos Vela and Jose Cifuentes finding the back of the soggy net for LAFC. LAFC steals three points on the road and takes down the Crew, 2-0. Also on this episode, you're going to learn an awful lot about tequila. Jonathan really knows his craft, and it's definitely a fun learning process. We lament missing the match live while Scarf has trouble with the calendar and Filly's ADHD is in full effect. This one is a bit of a longer episode, but like the match in Columbus, we hope you'll agree, it's worth the wait! Enjoy Episode 195!

The gauntlet continues for LAFC, as match number 5 in May is a midweek affair against another solid Western Conference foe, Austin FC.  What we hoped would be home-cooking turned out to be nothing more than a plate of stale broccoli, as LAFC falls to Austin, 2-1. The start of the match was more of what we have come to expect this season, as LAFC fell behind early. In the 13th minute, after a bad pass by wing back, that's right, wing back Kellyn Acosta led to a corner, Chiqui was unable to clear the ball and gave it right back to Austin. Jhojan Valencia found a wide open Ruben Gabrielsen for the opening salvo. It would remain 1-0 until a spot of brilliance from Diego Fagundez and a spot of bother from Mamadou Fall combined to allow Austin to double their lead. Just 5 minutes later, however, Carlos Vela would strike from the spot, notching his 100th point in MLS play. Unfortunately, it would turn out to be too little, too late for LAFC, and the clock struck midnight on the comeback. LAFC falls 2-1, and falls from 1 to 2 in the standings. Also on this episode, Vegas travels to lovely Birmingham, Carlos has richer friends, and Latif earns a boot none of us want. We will be right back to do this in just a few days, as the boys head to Columbus and look to reclaim their spot at the top of the table. Until then, enjoy 194!

LAFC begin their biggest and longest test of the season, with 5 matches in just 15 days. The first of the five is a showdown with the best club in the East, the Philadelphia Union, the last team LAFC played pre-pandemic. Their last match was a 3-3 knockdown heavyweight draw. This one begs for a trilogy to settle it, as the two combatants play to another draw, this time 2-2. Despite controlling much of the run of play, LAFC would give up an early goal yet again. In the 9th minute, Daniel Gazdag puts Philly on top after a beautiful set of passes in and around the box. LAFC would mount attack after attack in the first half, mostly off of their seven first-half corners. The Union, however, would make it to the half up 1-0.As LAFC does, they would come out swinging in the second half. Just 12 minutes in, Mahala would find the equalizer with a laser beam over the right shoulder of Andre Blake. The sheer joy in a Mahala goal celebration seems like it would power the entire stadium. In the 67th minute, however, LAFC would surrender their first second-half regular-season goal of 2022, as Julian Carranza bends one around the outstretched arms of Maxime Crepeau to once again give the Union the lead. But in this fight, no lead was safe, as LAFC proved in the 82nd minute. It comes off a corner (of course) from Carlos Vela (of course), which finds its way to Cifu. CIfu's shot is saved by a diving Blake, but the rebound comes off to a wide open Franco Escobar, who may have salted away the starting RB spot with his performance in this match. After an absolutely insane bicycle attempt by Mamadou Fall and plenty of Sharks vs. Jets posturing on both sides after the match, the great refs at PRO blow it dead for a 2-2 draw. What a match! Also in this episode, we check in on Adama Diomande, we welcome Nathan Ordaz to the family, and try to let our moms know exactly how much we love them. LAFC falls at Carson, 2-1. They say it's not how you start but how you finish, but for LAFC, an awful start did them in early. After a few missed chances early on, Brian Rodriguez pulls up in the 7th minute with an apparent hamstring injury. Shell shocked and lacking composure, Carson and Chicharito pounced, taking an early 1-0 lead off a header from their captain. LAFC kept their foot on the gas, but a post hit by Vela and an erroneous offside call kept LAFC off the scoreboard. To put it nicely and mildly, it was an incredibly frustrating series of events. But nothing as bad as the 31st minute, where Sega is able to get on the end of another cross on the back post to double LAFC's deficit. LAFC would go into the half down a pair, and needing to find a pair both figuratively and literally to level the match. The Black and Gold came out hot, though a Vela goal was correctly disallowed in the second minute of the second half. Chicho and Latif came on to provide a bit of extra energy, and it wound up being Chicho who would get us on the board in the 79' after a great long throw into the box by Chiqui. Vela's initial shot was saved, but the rebound came to the feet of Chicho, who calmly buried it. In the 8th, yes, 8th minute of stoppage time, LAFC thought they had equalized on a Latif Blessing goal after the ball pinballed around the box. However, according to PRO refereeing savant Chris Penso, Mamadou Fall was offside because no defender was deliberately actively making a play on the ball. Horsepucky. In one of the most controversial calls in our rivalry's history, the goal was disallowed, and after 11 minutes of stoppage, Carson takes all three points. Again, horsepucky. LAFC will have to regroup quickly as Sporting KC comes calling on Sunday the 17th at the Banc. Though there are positives to take away from the second half, this result will sting for quite some time. Hopefully, Episode 186 can help you exercise these demons along with us.

Match 2 of the Steve Cherundolo era is upon us, and a familiar yet unfriendly foe comes knock, knock, knocking on Black and Gold Heaven's door, the Portland Timbers. The Pesky Pine Trees, as Filly likes to call them, have dominated LAFC as of late, with our last win against the Rose City coming in September of 2020. It was a star-studded affair at the Banc, with Owen Wilson, Weston McKennie, owner Will Farrell, B-Real, and even Head of Security Paul all in attendance. The 22,000 in attendance would be treated to a classic Portland/LAFC match. Franco Escobar came off with an injury in the 13th minute, and just 5 minutes later, Portland would find the back of the net first. Yimmi Chara's second bicycle kick in as many weeks put Portland on top and into their patented defensive shell. After the half, LAFC provided our first Wait, What? Moment of the regular season: Carlos Vela coming off after half-time with a potential small knock. It would take 80 full minutes for LAFC to answer, but now without some help from the visitors first: Portland's Claudio Bravo would pick up his second yellow card in the 62nd minute, and from then on, LAFC was on the front foot. Brian Rodriguez would find a streaking Mamadou Fall in the box after yet another successful run by Rayito up the left flank. Brian made the pass, Fall slotted home the equalizer, and, after Crepeau swatted away another Chara attempt, LAFC claws back a point at home.News and Notes tracks a player we loved to watch in the preseason while This Day In LAFC History says both happy birthday and so long to a former Defender of the Banc. Why are the boys waking up extra early for an away match? How is Scarf celebrating his birthday? And what will Filly program next on the new toys in studio? Make sure you tune in to Defenders of the Banc all season to find out answers to these questions and many more on Episode 183.

LAFC 2.0 is on and poppin', and for the first time in our club's history, the Black and Gold took the pitch without Bob Bradley. The Steve Cherundolo Era begins in earnest, and it's against a familiar preseason foe, the New England Revolution.Forgoing much of the usual News and Notes of most Defenders episodes (to be covered in Episode 180!), Filly and the Scarf get right in to all the action in our first preseason match of Season 5! (Right after a little This Date In LAFC History, of course…)Many of the new faces would have to wait to make their LAFC debuts. Maxime Crepeau and Kellyn Acosta were both in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada waiting to face each ther in a World Cup Quaifier, while Ilie Sanchez and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi were unavailable as well. LAFC mainstay Eddie Segura is still working himself back to 100%, while Latif Blessing, Chiqui Palacios, and Jose Cifuentes all were held back as well. However, some of the “new new” was at the Banc, including Franco Escobar, our new #2 on the back line. Also starting was future backup keeper John McCarthy. It was a back and forth first half, with most of the excitement centered around a rather silly red card earned by Jesus Murillo in the 25'. Scoreless until just before the half time whistle, Adam Buksa put a rebound past McCarthy, and LAFC entered the half down 1-0. And, oh by the way, you can replace a player who gets a red, as long as it's preseason! The second half saw a ton of changes for LAFC. Trialists, fringe roster players, and Mamadou Fall all took the pitch in the second half. Tomas Romero took over in goal, Cal Jennings, Mahala, Danny Musovski, and Danny Trejo all played up top, but it was late super-sub Bruce El-Mesmari who created the big chance for LAFC. Taken down in the box in the 85', the PK was converted by Fall, and the match ended 1-1. All in all, it was an entertaining start to the new era at LAFC. 25 different players took the pitch, our new coach coached, and we loved every minute of it. And we are looking forward to covering EVERY single minute of it here on Defenders of the Banc! Join us for Season 5!

For the final time in the regular season in 2021, LAFC took the pitch at the Cathedral of the Black and Gold, Banc of California Stadium. In what was as close to a must-win match as we have played in a year, LAFC took on the white-hot Whitecaps with their playoff lives on the line, and… despite a 1-1 draw, LAFC is not dead yet. LAFC got off to a nightmarish start, allowing a goal at the 15' mark off a pass from Brian White to Cristian Dajome. Instead of giving in and giving up, LAFC took control of the match, mustering chance after chance en route to finally cracking the Vancouver defense during first half stoppage time. A ball that pinballed around the box found its way off of Vancouver defender Florian Jungwirth over to wunderkind Mamadou Fall, who taps it in from mere inches to level the match and give LAFC and the entire chorus of the faithful at the Banc a much-needed boost. In the second half, LAFC took control, again earning most of the quality chances. But LAFC's chances all went begging, especially a whisker-thin miss by Chicho Arango at the death to keep it a 1-1 final. LAFC now no longer controls their playoff destiny and will look to get help from Sporting KC, Seattle, Minnesota, and heck, maybe even Carson on Decision Day 2021. But none of it will matter unless LAFC takes all three points from Colorado. Also on this episode, Scarf gets a migraine, Filly wishes he could be aboard the Titanic, and the boys go in on idiots in the South End chanting a particular word. Congrats to the Atuestas on welcoming Matias into the family! With just one regular season match remaining on the schedule, there's still a chance, Defenders! We just need a little help from our “friends”.

Round 3 of the 2021 LA Derby comes to Carson, as does the heartbeat of LAFC, The 3252, behind 13 buses carrying the Choir of the Black and Gold. If the match were played in the stands, it would be a resounding multi-goal victory. Alas, the match is still played on the pitch, and all LAFC could muster was a 1-1 draw. The match started out perfectly for LAFC, as early yellows for Carson coupled with another header off an Atuesta corner for Mamadou Fall gave LAFC the early 1-0 lead. It took Carson less than 10 minutes to equalize, as Victor Vazquez threaded a pass through the center of the LAFC “defense” to Samuel Grandsir for the equalizer. Despite Raheem Edwards doing his best to earn a red card, LAFC leave the first half with all 11 men deadlocked at 1. The Black and Gold would barely threaten in the second half, while our backline was forced to dodge a few bullets off the heads of the Galaxy. Ultimately, too few opportunities proved too much of a hill to climb, and LAFC leaves Carson with a point, but not with their first victory. Also on this episode, the boys take a long, meandering walk through the banter section of their podcast, waxing poetic on everything from the Rams to Sumo wrestling to Turkish Super Lig soccer. Can LAFC right the ship in time to make the playoffs? Is Bob still in? Who's starting in keeper for LAFC? Stay with us, Defenders! Episode 172 is coming in just over a week!

LAFC headed up to the usually-friendly confines of PayPal Park for a lovely Saturday evening in San Jose, and, unfortunately, for the Black and Gold, it was a house of horrors. LAFC loses to the Smurfs, 2-0, and the playoff chase for LAFC becomes a little harder. But yay, Filly's back from Orlando!Right out of the gate, a disaster of a header pass from Mamadou Fall leads to Chofis finding a streaking Benji Kikanovic for an early 1-0 San Jose lead. After a completely uninspiring first half, LAFC came out looking to avoid the kind of mistakes they started the first half and… did exactly the same thing. Two LAFC players chose to pass in their own box rather than clear the lines or just head the damn ball out of bounds, which, of course, leads to the second goal of the match for San Jose, this one off the foot of Chofis. Despite a line change in the 58' which led to more energy, better pace, and a few more scoring chances, LAFC couldn't find one. The Black and Gold leave San Jose losers of two straight, this one at the hands of the Earthquakes, 2-0. Also on this episode, we celebrate clinching the Supporters Shield on TDILH, we check in on Diego Rossi in Turkey, and we welcome Michee Ngalina to the Black and Gold! In Los Angeles, it's not the leaves changing color, or a crispness in the air, or even the smell of pumpkin spice in every Starbucks and Trader Joe's that signal the coming of fall in 2021. This year, it's the sound of the 3252 roaring as our own Defender of the Banc, Mamadou Fall, scores a brace at the Banc to give LAFC its biggest win of 2021! It's Episode 165, the first of the post-Diego Rossi era, and it's Fall! The first 17 minutes-plus gave no indication of the season change that was coming. SKC dominated long stretches of the early part of the match, but LAFC's defense played well. In the 18th minute, LAFC earns a corner, taken by Eduard Atuesta. A perfect corner finds Mamadou Fall, the 18-year old Senegalese defender who has been a beacon of light on the rough seas of the 2021 season. Rising above the defense, Fall heads it cleanly into the back of the net to give LAFC a bit of a shock lead, 1-0. LAFC would hold serve through the first half and head to the locker room up a goal. In the second half, Red Card Roger reared his head once again, as Roger Espinoza is shown red for an unintentional-but-awful looking on Chicho Arango, and SKC was shook. Latif earns LAFC a free kick at the hour mark, and the pair of Atuesta and Fall were back at it! Off the set piece, Mamadou gets on the end of another perfect ball, heading it across goal for a brace and a two-goal lead for LAFC! 10 minutes later, Duke, Moose, and Chicho link up for LAFC's third, and it looked like the lead was finally safe from our 80th minute curse. Just to be sure, Eduard Atuesta buried a Musovski-earned PK in the 85th minute to put the Black and Gold up 4, and the party was on at the Banc! Also on this episode, Jordan Harvey gets some burn, Filly rants about the haters, and Scarf remembers Tommy Mark on the 3rd anniversary of his sudden passing. Of course, there's This Day In LAFC History, a rundown of our boys on international duty, and a short prayer to prevent injuries during kickball. We hope you enjoy Episode 165 almost as much as our incredible victory over Sporting!

Gone are the days of LAFC yore, where we would score goals upon goals and rack up points both at home and on the road. Like the apothecary table in friends, this season is definitely not from yore. It's from the Twilight Zone, with a little bit of the Upside Down sprinkled in. On Episode 161, LAFC makes its only appearance in an Eastern Conference home, as the Black and Gold travel to Atlanta to take on Josef Martinez and friends. In what was a microcosm of both teams' seasons thus far, it was a fun-to-watch but ultimately unsatisfying first half of play, ending 0-0. Eduard Atuesta's beautiful free kick to Mamadou Fall, resulting in a wonderful header that found the back of the net, was ultimately called offside in what looks to be the right call. Frustrating, but right. Romero made a couple of key saves for LAFC in the half. Fresh off the second half whistle, Atlanta benefitted from a poor touch by Murillo and pinpoint passing from Barco to Josef, and Atlanta was quickly on the board. LAFC tried to muster something in the second half, bringing on Arango for Brian Rodriguez, but ultimately, their effort fell flat. LAFC would remain scoreless for the second 45 minutes, and frustration turns into another poor result. LAFC falls 1-0.To make matters worse, in the 77th minute, Diego “Chiqui” Palacios went down with a non-contact knee injury that looked… bad. Like, really bad. We hope for the best but fear the worst for our beloved wing back. Also on this Episode, we wish a happy birthday to Papa Scarf, Scarf's dad John, as well as Mohamed Traore and Rodrigo Pacheco. The episode also has notes of Christian Ramirez, hints of mentions of Staebek and Aberdeen, and finishes with a flourish of a rant by Scarf himself. It takes a lot to impress Filly! We will be back for more Black and Gold banter on Episode 162 as we break down Vancouver, but until then, try not to sharpen those pitchforks all that much!

Today we travel to the Country of Senegal, in Africa, to speak with Senegalese music champion, Mamadou Fall. The Senegalese music I have heard is similar to the people I have met from there. It’s fun, lively and complex. CNN once said that Senegal was inextricably linked to a musical sound. This style of music, Mbalax, has sacred origins and contains elements of reggae, hip hop and soul. This episode features music from Youssou N'Dour and Cherifou, from Senegal, and Akon, from the United States.
