1998 album by Marilyn Manson
POPULARITY
Marilyn Manson's "One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1" marks a striking return for the controversial artist, blending his industrial, alt-metal roots with fresh emotional and sonic maturity. The album showcases a mix of darkwave, alt-rock, and glam influences, reminiscent of his earlier works like Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood, but with a more introspective and cohesive narrative. Tracks like "Nod If You Understand" and "Sacrilegious" channel his signature intensity while introducing a deeper sense of vulnerability and refined artistry. Learn more about your ad choices. Marilyn Manson has always been a controversial figure, and while there are some recent allegations against him, this podcast is about the music we love, and my guest and I love Marilyn Manson's early music. So if you're looking for us to comment on the allegations, we don't. This is about music and always has been. Tom Austin-Morgan of the Banned Biographies podcast joins me once again for this episode. Episode 62 of the Personal Jukebox brings you the 1998 third studio album from Marilyn Manson, Mechanical Animals. Released at the height of the band's popularity/infamy, it signals a change in musical direction and offers a (shudder) concept album. Any good? or just pyro, ballyhoo and religion baiting? Mr. Neil Strong hops back on the pod to discuss this one out with Simon. They also cover the recently announced initial Download festival line-up, England's World Cup hopes, the untrustworthy Cristiano Ronaldo's interview, Karen's Diner and the time Neil cried his eyes out to the film Armageddon. Another fun episode of TSORR, this one went out on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 23 June 2022. It was episode 25 so we are nearly halfway through Season 5 already. Kicking off with Dee Snider and ‘Mask', and then Lita Ford with ‘The Mask' we symbolically said cheers to wearing masks in SA at last. Or until the next pandemic in 2060 but I don't think flu will be around by then anyway, or me for that matter. Moving on. We checked out Autograph with a very fresh sounding 2017 live version of ‘Turn Up The Radio' and then got down to business with some Megadeth, Saxon, and Guns 'n' Roses. The new Megadeth called The Sick, The Dying and the Dead is on pre-release but we took in a track off United Abominations called 'Washington is Next. The G 'n' Roses track came off Chinese Democracy, just for a change. To rebalance for a Guns 'n' Roses without Slash we played a track off his It's 5 'o Clock Somewhere album. There was a call for some metal so I played Asking Alexandria which was met with Oom-ish howls which a stated with Metallica's 'The Thing That Should Not Be'. More howls, so we got back to old-school metal in the form of ACDC and Rainbow. The world has changed a lot. Other than that we paid tribute to Clarens Clemons who died 11 years ago this week. 'Born to Run' did the honours there. We heard the obligatory Tom Petty track and some Marilyn Manson with 'New Model No 15' off Mechanical Animals. Rammstein hit us with 'Haifisch' which means shark in English and then we celebrated a historic victory in which the forces of good triumphed over the forces of evil at the CCMA, Slayer with 'Richard Hung Himself' marked that spot.No SA music in this episode!!! can't believe it, it just got too busy. Next week I promise. Other than that there were two good releases this week Machine Head with a track called 'Unhallowed' and In Flames with 'State of Slow Decay', heavy metal is alive and kicking ass. We went out quietly with Judas Priest's beautiful ballad titled 'Never Forget' which reminds us that they will keep going until they no longer can and that they will never forget the support from the fans, it's a bitter-sweet reminder of the fragility of it all. Tomm Waits closed the gate with 'Gun Street Girl' off raindogs. Artists featured: Dee Snider, Lita Ford, Kris Barras Band, Autograph, Bad Company, Megadeth, Praying Mantis, Rhino Bucket, Saxon, Dangerous Toys, Guns ‘n' Roses, Asking alexander, Metallica, ACDC, Rainbow, Slash's Snake Pit, Soil, Slayer, System of a Down, Soundgarden, Bush, The Jam, The Damned, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Windowpane, Skid Row, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Cold Chisel, Uriah Heep, Motörhead, Machine Head, In Flames, Judas Priest, Tom Waits

On this in-depth Michael Beinhorn interview, Michael explains how he went from being a synth player in Material, a local Manhattan band… to co-writing, playing and producing Herbie Hancock's smash hit, Rockit! Dealing with divorce, moving cross country, getting fired from his band, the unethical aspect of the music business… his reputation for firing drummers, working with Herbie Hancock, Red Hot Chili Peppers Soul Asylum, Ozzy Osbourne (and why Ozzy hated being in the studio), Mike Ness (Social Distortion), Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, Marilyn Manson, Twiggy (from Manson's band), Hole… the challenge about being creative that many artists face once they become successful (VERY interesting), an incredibly helpful discussion about faulty belief systems and how they, unfortunately, rule and ruin, so many of our lives, and LOADS more. INCREDIBLY inspirational, great conversation, this one's a MUST: If you'd like to support this show: http://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/support Michael Beinhorn is a successful record producer, composer, author, and musician, who's worked with: Brian Eno, Nile Rodgers, David Byrne, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, Fab Five Freddy, Nona Hendryx, Lenny White, Violent Femmes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, Soundgarden, Soul Asylum, Marilyn Manson, Living Colour, Social Distortion, Hole, Korn (#2 Billboard LP, Untouchables, platinum), Fuel, The Bronx, Afrika Bambaataa, Pet Shop Boys, Janet Jackson, The Cult, Black Label Society and hundreds of others His projects have combined record sales at over 45 million copies worldwide, and he's the only record producer in history to have 2 separate recordings debut in the Billboard Top Ten in the same week (Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals @ #1 & Hole's Celebrity Skin @ #9) Subscribe YT: https://www.youtube.com/c/EveryoneLovesGuitar?sub_confirmation=1 Website: https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/subscribe
For Marilyn Manson the transition from shock rock to a glam superstar was seamless, and even more controversial than anything he had done until this point... We take a trip inside the demented mind of Marilyn Manson.
Socksmakepeoplesexy pal, Jetstorm4 joins myself and Taylor today as we take on Marilyn Manson's most direct and straightforward jump into the mainstream, Mechanical Animals. The band traded in their dirty and dingy industrial rock aesthetic and sonics for a more slick and over-produced 90's take on 70's glam rock and today we're gonna discuss how we think that turned out.
We talk about the ego in proportion to the artist. We talk about track # 9 from the Mechanical Animals album if you know what I'm talking about. GOOD STUFF. The world was his after the release of Mechanical Animals, and rock n roll had a new star that would scare parents and empower the youth, but with the image and rage behind him the media would make him the easiest finger to point at. The career trajectory would halt after a tragedy the would leave 15 students dead and Manson as a scapegoat, but in the wake of the negative media attention, instead of backing down, he would release his most powerful statement and fight against the lies associated to his namesake and band. Marilyn Manson. The LAST Shock Rocker. Bakko, LC, and Gene return to bust balls and complete the "3 Hits From Hell" trilogy covering Manson's 1998 album Mechanical Animals which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. This album had a major shift from the "Antichrist Superstar" sound with a glam rock approach and a new "androgynous alien" image. Manson moved from Satan, to something ever scarier - DRUGS. We break down the cultural significance, controversy, and impact that Manson had during his reign as the last Shock Rocker. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Mas Dope! Producer Michael Beinhorn has worked the boards for some of the biggest albums of the last 30 years. Just look at this list - the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Mother's Milk, Soul Asylum's Grave Dancer's Union, Soundgarden's Superunknown (which just turned 25 last week), Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals, and Hole's Celebrity Skin. And there are many others where that came from (the Violent Femmes, Ozzy Osbourne, Social Distortion, and the Verve Pipe are some of the others we talk about). But, did you know his first major work was writing and producing the game-changing "Rockit" by Herbie Hancock?! Can you believe the same guy did all of this? These days he's entered a new phase of his career which focuses on the pre and post production process and one of the first fruits of this is Weezer's brand new Black Album. Hear Michael tell stories about all these artists, like when he had to fire Anthony Kiedis and what the late-great Chris Cornell was like to work with, as well as many others. Enjoy! http://www.michaelbeinhorn.com/

Michael Beinhorn has lived his life in the pursuit of artistic expression, first as a visual artist, then as a performer, and finally as a record producer. Forgoing a promising career in medical illustration, Beinhorn began his musical endeavors in 1979 as co-founder of the seminal New York musical collective Material. The group’s singular style and strong artistic personalities led to their producing their own recordings out of necessity. As the band rose to prominence, in 1980 they were approached by Brian Eno, collaborating on the track “Lizard Point” from Eno’s acclaimed recording “Ambient 4: On Land.” In 1983, Beinhorn co-produced Herbie Hancock’s landmark recording, Future Shock, which included the groundbreaking cut “Rockit.” The song, co-written and co-produced by Beinhorn, would become Columbia Records’ most successful 12-inch single ever, selling over three million copies and winning a Grammy in 1984 for Best R&B Instrumental Recording. After departing Material in 1984, Beinhorn’s production career began to reach new heights. His work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ breakthrough albums “The Uplift Mofo Party Plan” and “Mother’s Milk” was instrumental in propelling the band to stardom. Beinhorn gained a reputation for producing a number of “high watermark” albums that have helped to define the careers of a diverse range of artists, including Soul Asylum, Hole, Soundgarden, Ozzy Osbourne, Courtney Love, Marilyn Manson, Social Distortion, Korn, Golden Palominos, and Mew. His recordings have achieved combined worldwide sales of more than 45 million albums, and he is one of only a handful of producers to have two separate recordings debut in Billboard’s Top Ten in the same week, with Marilyn Manson’s “Mechanical Animals” (#1) and Hole’s “Celebrity Skin” (#9) also earning him a 1998 Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year. In addition to producing, arranging, engineering, co-writing, and performing on many of his projects, Beinhorn’s attention to detail and tireless pursuit of sonic excellence led him to develop and commission the first two-inch eight-track Ultra-Analog multitrack tape recording format. In recent years, Beinhorn has turned his attention to the concerns facing today’s artists and producers attempting to maintain their creative ethics and focus on the recording process. He has been increasingly active in mentoring fellow artists and aspiring record producers. He addresses these and other pertinent issues in his book “Unlocking Creativity”, published by Hal Leonard. He continues to inspire the artists he works with to excel to greater heights, with an unwavering commitment to sonic exploration and creative excellence.
