Steve Swart was on the bandstand and in college at CMU just in time to see owner Harvey Vanier turn The Foolery into Rubbles. Mt. Pleasant has always been at the dead center of the state of Michigan when it comes to cross-over touring due to WCMU and the college music market. One quick look north from Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor, Detroit and Lansing, all eyes hit the college town. The blended artistry from roots folk, to deep blues, power pop, metal, and first generation punk all huddled in this marketplace, long after the '60s Flint scene dispersed.     Yes, you could see Texas blues man Gatemouth Brown, followed by funky rockin' Fishbone, and then a tour stop for the punk legends Dead Milkmen. Or how about Blues Brother Matt 'Guitar' Murphy? Verve Pipe? Etc...this was a Michigan hub town thanks to the venues, Theatres, and WCMU radio.    While Swart notes that much remains in historical value, the word-of-mouth of the area's scene is more of a recollection and myth, than the hub it once was. North of Mt. Pleasant lies Interlochen, which seems to have taken on the persona that Mt. Pleasant used to be known for. A quick look at Traverse City, Petoskey, Alpena, or over west to Big Rapids or Grand Rapids, or even east to the Tri-Cities and you can see speckles of the majestic college town scene. Swart is taking the Mt. Pleasant music history seriously and is not only documenting it, but releasing lost shows on YouTube. His band was the farm-team for many of the rock greats to leave the area, particularly two members of The Verve Pipe. A former club owner, Furlo's golden pipes have become a mid-Michigan touchstone from solo stints, to The Jitters, Savior Machines and his music continues to thrive through today in CDF Band.    Born near Detroit, John Cashman has lived around the world and has called Bay City his home for decades. Owner of Cashman's Comics, Cashman is the go-to drummer for the likes of Mirage, Round & The Distant Few, Radio Therapy, Muddy Gumbo, Savior Machines and most recently CDF with Mick Furlo. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST AMPLFYING WISCONSIN MUSIC EPISODE 106 Sam Boettcher of BLAME IT ON CAIN   If you've found yourself poking around iTunes lately, you've probably bumped into a litany of highly-polished, over compressed, auto-tuned pop music. Boring. “What happened to Rock?”, you wonder. Happily, it's right here ... in Beertown, USA. Blame It On Cain. Rock Done Right.  The band released their debut album, ‘Rhythm Schism' in 2008 and the album stretched beyond the usual boundaries of local radio and internet play. Their song, “Yesterday's Happy” was released nationally on a compilation CD from Versailles Records. “Miami Beach” was the theme song for an animated web-series based on the east coast. And the band was invited on stage with Brian Vander Ark of the Verve Pipe, to sit in on a couple of acoustic numbers with the multi-platinum selling artist. A refreshed sound emerged and the band went back into the studio to record ‘Big Down Under' in 2017. The album instantly received positive reviews from critics and fans, and the initial printing sold-out. With little down time, the band went back to writing and, in May 2019, released, ‘Amp Grease'. The album features eight newly recorded tunes and explores a number of different textures. Their latest album - “Implied Maturity” - features 9 new, eclectic songs; from the bluesy “Blush” to the reflective “Summerhill”, and from the gritty-drive of “Story Of Your Lies” to the delicate “Love, Not Change”. The album is a departure from previous releases, as this is the band's first all-acoustic effort. It is available on iTunes, Amazon Music, Bandcamp, Pandora and other streaming services.  The idea to do an all-acoustic album came after Cain played a set at an unplugged festival in Sturgeon Bay.
