In today's episode of Small-Time Leaders, our host Michael shares with us how Josh Branson reminded him to observe barriers as a blessing. As we pursue our passion and goals, we often run into obstacles that unfortunately put us down, or even worse, push us into giving up. Josh is the leading example of converting barriers into blessings and staying committed to the end goal, no matter of the nay-sayers that surround us or to life hurdles. We also wanted to thank our August guest speakers, Micah Andrews, and Phillip Van Hooser. Micah reminded us the importance of Being Real, Authentic and Genuine and the impact we make on people's lives when we Stand Up For Them. Michael Alan Tate’s MVP player Stats: After going through a crisis of depression and being sick, Michael quit his job and went to his career counselor who would give him a personality test and suggested he be in HR. After sending out 500 resumes, Michael only got one response, sending him into a deeper depression. About three years later, Michael realized he chose the world’s worst strategy to find work and made it his calling to help other people know the way to find a life-giving career in a life-giving way. In this episode, Michael talks about what a life-giving career is. He talks about some key points from his book, The White Shirt, about knowing who you are, what your skills, interests, and values are, as well as finding the key interest in your career and how to find a job before looking back to ask, “who am I and where do I fit?” Michael’s plan is to help and coach people who feel discouraged by finding “their way” and into their career. As a mentor himself, Michael talks about some of the influential people in his life who have contributed to his life-giving ways. Make sure to give this episode a listen if you are stuck finding the career that is for you! Don’t just give into the grind or hanging around a job you don’t like just to end up in a dead-end career. Make the change! Hear some of the key offensive strategies Michael shares on this episode to further your career path and design a life that matters snow! Keep the conversation going by sharing this episode with your friends, colleagues, and on social media! Thanks so much for listening. Michael Alan Tate explains how to create successful career move strategies! I had a wonderful podcast interview with Michael Alan Tate. You will enjoy listening to him, too. What was of such interest? The challenges of change, of course, something that we at SAMC spend a lot of time working on with clients. Michael has been an executive consultant and career coach for more than 20 years. He is also the founder and president of On the Same Page Consulting, as well as an inspiring speaker and author. His first book, “Design a Life that Works,” teaches how to balance business, career, family and personal values in an individual strategic life plan. His latest book, "The White Shirt," gives you the tools to create successful career move strategies. This is one podcast you shouldn't miss—we can all learn so much from Michael! Expertise in career transitions Michael came into his own after realizing that he was miserable doing outplacement services for a company that was downsizing. Determined to make a change, he drew up his own personal plan, pitched it to his boss and created a new job. No longer was he helping people move out, but rather, helping them grow into stronger performers—where they were and where they were going in their own lives. Now president and CEO of On the Same Page Consulting, Michael works with successful executives, entrepreneurs and technical professionals who are seeking a simple action-focused plan to effectively manage career transitions, keep teams on the same page, and prepare for positive leadership succession.
