Making a Scene Presents an interview with Dustin ArbuckleDustin Arbuckle and The Damnations are not a band you can easily associate with one specific genre, and that's how they planned it. Arbuckle, a veteran of the progressive roots music scene whose singing and harmonica playing first came into prominence in Moreland & Arbuckle, has been kicking up fresh dust with The Damnations since 2017. A musician of vast appetites, he’s long held an appreciation for traditional American music in the vein of Charley Patton as well as the cross-pollinated sounds of The Band or Stax-style soul. The diverse musical sensibilities of The Damnations (Brandon Hudspeth on guitar, Caleb Drummond or Mark Foley on bass, and Kendall Newby on Drums) allow for all of that along with occasional forays into deep country and even jazz. “When we started playing together we all wanted the band to be a space where we could play anything we wanted to," Arbuckle notes, "and that's created this cross-genre electric Americana vibe."Dustin Arbuckle & The Damnations,When A Song Comes Along,My GetawayDustin Arbuckle & The Damnations,You Got To Go,My Getawaywww.makingascene.org,Dustin Arbuckle,Dustin Arbuckle & The Damnations,My Getaway,My GetawayDustin Arbuckle & The Damnations,Daniel Fought a Lion,My Getaway

We're building a strong hour of blues in this edition of The Roadhouse. Jack Mack & the Heart Attack Horns, Lucky Peterson, Kenny Neal, Moreland & Arbuckle, and The Mighty Mojo Prophets provide the bricks, with another seven or eight artists providing the mortar. All told, it takes a lot of hands to construct the hour, but when it's done, you end up with another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 618th Roadhouse.

This edition of The Roadhouse will have you out of your chair from start to finish. Barrelhouse Chuck & Kim Wilson's All-Stars, Johnny Copeland, Mark Hummel, Moreland & Arbuckle, and Honey Island Swamp Band tear up the hour in a show that will pass far too quickly. This edition of The Roadhouse comprises sets of varied themes - a set of contemporary blues, a set of blues rock, some killer soul blues, and a set that leans more toward the acoustic. Tweed Funk, The Kaz Hawkins Band, Moreland & Arbuckle, The James Hunter Six, and Matt Andersen make up the big pieces of the puzzle, but the small pieces really pull it all together. It's an hour of varied themes in this edition of The Roadhouse, and definitely another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

While it may not exactly fit with a traditional view of blues, I don't have any doubt that you'll dear blues in every track.
