Albert King and B.B. King both loved CHRIS CAIN. And so will you. Previewing tracks from his new album, Good Intentions Gone Bad (out July 19th on Alligator Records), and playing a ton of guitar (as well as singing!) for you, blues legend Cain jams with host Jude Gold and shows you how he went from being a little kid going with his dad to attend concerts by the three kings (Albert, B.B. and Freddie) to becoming a world renowned blues artist in his own right. This episode is presented by Guitar Player magazine.

In this episode, Joshua and Caleb chat with Chris Cain of Malfour Outfitters. Chris grew up the son of a pastor in rural north Alabama, where his passions for Jesus and the outdoors were born. Throughout his upbringing, God saw fit to place men in Chris's life to cultivate those passions and disciple him in faith and fishing. In 2013, Chris married his beloved Jana, and they moved to north Texas to start a family and begin a life in ministry. Chris served the local church for over eight years through various pastor roles. He now works in the fishing industry, manufacturing and selling rods and reels for Seaborn Outfitters and Bates Fishing Co. Chris and Jana have two boys, Wilder and Sawyer, and currently reside in Mountain Home, AR. For over a year, Chris has founded and is the lead guide for Malfour Outfitters. Malfour's mission is to leverage the magnificence of creation in turning the hearts of people to their Heavenly Father, the God of creation. This is done by offering exceptional outdoor experiences and unique pastoral care to create a different pace in a different place so that when men leave, they do so with a different perspective. In this conversation, we discuss: -Dry Run Creek in northern Arkansas -tips for dads taking kids fishing -why early success for kids is important -the beauty of an unhurried life and much more. We had the pleasure of interviewing We Are Scientists Zoom video!American rock band We Are Scientists debuted in the early aughts with the angular post-punk edge of With Love and Squalor, later evolving to incorporate polished synths and expanded atmospherics on efforts like 2016's Helter Seltzer, 2018's Megaplex, and 2021's Huffy. Although modestly popular in America, they were a hit in the U.K., where the group's sound -- part post-punk revival and part indie rock with a touch of '80s synth pop -- drew parallels to contemporaries like Editors, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and the Killers. Formed on the West Coast by three California-based college students, We Are Scientists officially took flight after frontman and guitar Keith Murray, bass player Chris Cain, and drummer Michael Tapper (who replaced founding drummer/vocalist Scott Lamb) relocated to Brooklyn and began building a small but devoted following. After releasing three EPs and one independent album -- Safety, Fun, and Learning (In That Order) -- the group signed with Virgin Records and released their major-label debut, With Love and Squalor, in early 2006. The effort peaked at ten on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and eventually was certified gold in the U.K. In 2008, We Are Scientists -- reduced to a duo comprising Cain and Murray after Tapper parted ways with the group -- put out their second full-length album, Brain Thrust Mastery. Produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, the set included the singles "After Hours" and "Chick Lit." As before, the record found popularity in the U.K., where it debuted at number 11 on the albums chart. In late 2012, the band entered the studio in New York with producer Chris Coady (Beach House, Gang Gang Dance, Blonde Redhead) to record sessions for their fourth record. Burrows relocated to the city from England while he worked with Murray and Cain to write and record tracks for the album. Titled TV en Français, it arrived in early 2014 on 100%/Dine Alone Records and featured appearances by Rose Elinor Dougall (Mark Ronson) and Tim Wheeler (Ash). In 2016, We Are Scientists returned with their fifth studio album, Helter Seltzer, produced by Max Hart (of Katy Perry's band). The effort charted in the Top 50 of the U.K. and Scottish charts. Two years later, they delivered their sixth effort, the polished Megaplex, also produced by Hart. The album featured the singles "Heart Is a Weapon," "Not Another Word," and "Your Light Has Changed."Following the 2020 launch of their own Dumpster Dive podcast, the group returned with the full-length Huffy in 2021. Although 2021's Huffy returned to a guitar-driven sound, Lobes, the band's eighth studio album, released early 2023, is their synthiest, electronic beatiest collection yet. So, really, who even is We Are Scientists? Founding We Are Scientists members Keith Murray (guitar) and Chris Cain (bass) have played with guys like Adam, Michael, Andy, Danny, Chris, Matt, and Gary on drums, but for over five years now have had Keith Carne, who looks like he isn't going anywhere. The band's previous singles “After Hours,” “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt,” “The Great Escape,” “It's a Hit” and “Chick Lit” all have charted in the US/UK and the band have appeared on US late night talk shows, The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan and Carson Daly and performed at Coachella, Sasquatch, and All Points West festivals. In the UK, the band played the Reading and Leeds main stage and Glastonbury Festivals among other world-wide touring. The release of Lobes was celebrated with a very special hometown show at Brooklyn Made on January 20, 2023.We want to hear from you! Okay, from the off, let me make it clear that We Are Scientists – that'd be guitarist and singer Keith Murray and bassist Chris Cain – are managed by my wife. Nepotism? Shlepotism. But please do buy their excellent new album, their eighth, Lobes, which is out now on 100% Records! But even before me and my wife got together, which is a time in my life I just about remember, I was crossing paths with Keith and Chris as their band were favourites of everyone on staff at the NME when I worked there many moons ago. In this episode we get into all that good stuff, but this being Keith and Chris, we get into all manner of other fun stuff too. Once again, please buy Lobes! Electronic parts shortages coupled with inflation has been affecting the electronic industry globally. Chris Cain our guest for today's episode is a supply chain consultant and former VP at Keysight working on supply chain and supply chain products. Chris will share with us his 37 years of experience and strategies to overcome electronic part shortages. Watch this episode here Show Higlights: Chris Cain briefly describes what supply management is, and his role as a consultant. Chris explains what it means to tap into the “scale for the larger ecosystem” of electronic providers Find alternatives and make some design adjustments where is possible Look for parts that are very scalable like memory parts and FPGAs Modular approach or designing for modules may also allow designers to have some flexibility If you can't get the parts, you can't ship your working design–having an insight into what's coming in the supply chain could help designers in their decision making It pays to spend a little time keeping up with groups like IPC which does the groundwork of looking up the industry and what they think is coming Chris warns designers about silk-screened sand, he added “never pay, until you verify” Moving towards an open source model, Zach mentioned a recent article on All About Circuits which talks about companies transitioning their chip architectures to RISC-V to help them overcome some of these supply chain issues What is supply chain resilience? Fuel costs push up the cost of everything else it's related to and it's essentially an inflation driver Avoid buying three year supply of parts, it's smarter to focus on design flexibility and overall sourcing flexibility What are the challenges involved with raw materials supplies for assembly?
