Send us a Text Message. We talk to Albert Cummings - Blues Rock Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter. Whilst always being a music fan it wasn't until his late 20s that Albert Cummings would step on a stage with a live band and realise the path he was meant to take. Already a successful builder and forth generation in his family he would juggle both careers successfully whilst his guitar skills would take him on a journey he never expected. From touring with BB King to recording with the legendary Double Trouble, Albert has fast become one of most respected and soulful artists on the Blues radar.Presented in association with Affinity Photo - The hottest photo editing software on iPad, Mac & PChttps://affinity.serif.com/photoIntro Music by Johnny Monacohttps://www.johnnymonaco.com/ Incidental Music by Night Fires Please visit The Straight To Video Patreon Page to find out how you can help grow this show. https://www.patreon.com/80sVideoShop

Gina has been nominated for two Independent Blues Awards for writing songs in the Best Contemporary Blues category. Blues guitarist Albert Cummings is my guest on this episode. And although music is literally in his DNA, he got a bit of a late start playing music. He didn't even start out on guitar: there was the trumpet and 5 string banjo before he started playing the blues. But after a friend suggested he play at wedding, he was hooked. He formed his first band, Swamp Yankee, recorded his first album, 11 tracks, in one 90 minute recording session! But it worked! He got a slot as the local headliner at a music festival and one offhand remark, along with that Swamp Yankee album, got him hooked up with Double Trouble. That experience was so good for all them the it led to them recording an album together. He's also played with legends like Buddy Guy & B.B. King. But Albert tells me how difficult the blues can be. Not only is it hard to sound unique, but once you're saddled with that classification, it's not always easy to change your style. He's got a new album called Ten. And yes, it's his tenth release. He's got high hopes for it, too. Pick it up at albertcummings.com or wherever you get music. His social media accounts are there, too. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. You can give us a hand with merch at performanceanx.threadless.com or with some coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. And leave your blues cliches out here, because Albert Cummings and I are having none of it on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

A cloudy afternoon brings a savory hour this week, to offset the occasional technicolor explosion from The Roadhouse Studios. Mavis Staples & Levon Helm, The Meltdown, Paul Thorn, Marcus King, and Albert Cummings are all ahead. And, a track that will have you singing along before it's over. It's the savory to the usual sweet, the spice of life, and another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

Episode 27 Watt Elmer? Show Notes Song: 00:00 Intro: 00:54 Feedback: 01:23 Regarding episode 25 Thomas, WC5B, says he has changed his mind about what he recommends to new hams for a first radio, based on Richards comments. Ray, KO4RB, also talks about episode 25 and his thoughts on a handy-talk as a first radio. Jerry, KD0BIK, of The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast disagreed with some of Richard's comments about media coverage of hurricane damage (Ike and Gustav) along the gulf coast. Richard's comments were meant to be specific to his local media. Ray, KO4RB, also writes to thank Richard for the podcast, and extols their virtues as a tool for elmering new hams. He's also exploring Linux for use in his shack, experiments with digital modes, DStar, and more. He also made a donation! Rich, AB6TY, says he listens as he works in the welding shop, and enjoys the information and music. He loves CW and encourages others to give it a try, and recommends FISTS and SKCC. He reminds Richard that new hams should be aware of split-frequency operations while chasing DX. He asks "What is a 'lid'?" A lid is a bad operator. www.fists.orgwww.skccgroup.com Donations: 17:25 Rich AB6TY, Ray KO4RB made donations, which allowed the purchase of a microphone, and a new machine to record the podcast. Consider a dollar per episode. Every dollar helps. Remember, we have to pay for the hosting service. shop at Amazon through the link at the website. Thanks! 19:55 Russ K5TUX and Richard released the first episode of Linux in the Ham Shack. Give it a listen Song: 22:07 "Night Time is the Right Time" by Elvin Bishop, featuring John Nemeth & Angela Strehli, from the album "The Blues Rolls On" Buzzword: 23:19 SWR and Watt MetersMeasures power out in watts and the SWR (standing wave ratio). Higher SWR is bad, as most modern radios will reduce their output if the SWR is too high, so it's a good idea to monitor the SWR. They can also be used to tune your wire or mobile antennas. Song: 31:58 "What Is That You Got" by Magic Slim & the Teardrops from the album "Midnight Blues" Topic: 34:17 How can you be a better Elmer? Elmer is the amateur radio term for a mentor. Anyone can be an Elmer. It just takes the desire to share what you know with someone else. It does take patience. Talk up the hobby with other folks. Teach a class. Get involved with one of the scouting organizations. Wear a shirt that proclaims your interest in the hobby. Be available at a special event station to answer questions. Song: 57:17 "Sleep" by Albert Cummings from the album "Feel So Good: Albert Cummings" Closing theme:65:04
The next hour of The Roadhouse leans toward blues rock. There are also three Roadhouse debuts and a pretty nice mix of male and female artists. Albert Cummings, Greg Sover Band, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, Grainne Duffy, and Chicken Shack are all out there just waiting to entertain you. And, there are nine other great artists and tracks to help push us through the hour. Fourteen tracks, a bit heavier than normal and, as always, another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

She began singing in 1990 on a dare by her co-workers and hasn’t turned back since. She began performing in a duet, The Siblings. Gina shortly started her own duet, Cole-Connection, which blossomed to a five-piece band that allowed her to showcase some of her original music. Gina has performed in the Williamstown Theater Festival as the lead gospel singer in “A Raisin in the Sun.” She also made several appearances at NYC’s famed Bitter End. Misty Blues was a featured group at Mass MoCa’s blues festival. Gina and the band have had the pleasure of performing with Charles Neville from the legendary Neville Brothers at several venues in Western, MA and opening for blues staples ... Tab Benoit, John Primer, Albert Cummings, and Michel Powers. Musical influences include Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, and Tuck & Patti. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jackdappabluespodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jackdappabluespodcast/support

It's the next-to-last holiday edition of The Roadhouse, with 2015 nearly in the rear-view mirror. I've got the usual mix of holiday and straight-up blues for the hour, including Marcia Ball, Colby James, Chris Yakopcic, Albert Cummings, and Charles Brown. As 2015 rolls away, another hour rolls in with the finest blues you've never heard - the 564th Roadhouse.

Albert Cummings comes out of New England and began playing the banjo prior to picking up the guitar. What put these instruments into his hands, what was it like to come to Memphis for the 1999 IBC after only performing for two years and the history of his music and recordings will be some of the things I will discuss with Albert as we listen to music from Someone Like You. Chris O’Leary fronted the Barnburners, the band led by the great Levon Helm. The last album, Live At Blues Now, was nominated for a Blues Blast Magazine Award for Best Live Album. His fourth album, Gonna Die Tryin’ has been released and I’ll discuss the road he has traveled and which occurrence, the album dropping or his son Jackson being born made him more nervous. What can you say about Chris Barnes? The man can act, he can write, he owns two successful clubs and he also owns Hokum Blues. What is Hokum Blues? It is “a humorous song which uses extended analogies or euphemistic terms to make sexual innuendos.” I get to finally sit with Chris and talk about his career and the new album, 90 Proof Truth. On Couch Kid New Music, Todd Wolfe joins me along with his new album, Long Road Back. What has Todd’s year been like since he Sat on The Couch in August of 2014? How many miles has Todd traveled in that time? Why did he select the 2 covers on the album? We’ll talk about these things and more while listening to songs from the new album.

Today I discuss the day at his elementary school when all the boys decided to race to determine who was the fastest.... and the slowest. I also talk about some of the lessons of backyard football apply in real life. I found a great tune, and I have to play it for you. The artist's name is Albert Cummings. I love this song. It's called Follow Your Soul from the Album True to Yourself. Buy The Song Buy The Album
