Back in the can to talk about a pretty spectacular 2024, and what is shaping up to be an epic 2025 is JYRO's man for all things FLOCKING, Zack Rosser. At an age when most kids are still learning to tie their shoelaces unassisted, Zack Rosser was tossing on his kid sized climbing harness so his father could take him up on a tandem paraglide session; and before he was old enough to know he had choices available to him, he'd already made his. With paragliding not as accessible in his area in Australia, his father took him out to the local DZ when he was twenty, and set him up on a tandem skydive to see if that might be a good fit. In no time at all, Zack became the DZ's "anything you need" guy, pushing hard to find his angle into the sport. It didn't take him long at all to realize the canopy side of things was exactly his fit. Working now as a tandem instructor, video guy, and primarily a canopy coach, Zack's passion for nylon has led him to everything from competition Canopy Piloting to organizing flocking dives all over Down Under, with plans to branch out to New Zealand and beyond as soon as travel allows. Bringing a youth and exuberance to everything he does, you'll understand when you listen that Zack Rosser has only just begun his path along the Lunatic Fringe.

New users have piled in to Chinese social media app RedNote just days before a proposed U.S. ban on the popular social media app TikTok is scheduled to go into effect. The lesser-known RedNote is rushing to capitalize on the sudden influx while walking a delicate line of moderating English-language content. Meanwhile, Americans flocking to RedNote are expressing shock at what they're learning about Chinese culture and the surprisingly comfortable conditions the Chinese people live in. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger talk to journalist Danny Haiphong about the propaganda most Americans are exposed to regarding China and how RedNote is unexpectedly helping tear down cross-cultural barriers. Plus segments on journalists Max Blumenthal and Sam Husseini being forcibly removed from Antony Blinken's last press briefing as Secretary of State as well as CNN's shocking response to this assault on the free press.

The Power of Flocking: The Seven Nearest…   In this episode, Bishop Michael Hunn applies the concept of 'flocking' as described by adrienne maree brown in her book 'Emerging Strategy' to live in the Episcopal Church.  By examining how birds, bees, and fish use flocking for defense, energy conservation, and resource finding, the video draws parallels to church congregations. It proposes an innovative approach where each church member focuses on connecting with the seven people nearest to them, fostering a deeper, more connected community. The idea extends to diocesan levels, encouraging clergy and church leaders to maintain regular, intentional connections with their peers. This transformative model aims to strengthen the church's unity and efficacy, aligning with early Christian practices.   00:00 Introduction to Flocking 01:02 Flocking in Nature 01:33 Flocking and Energy Conservation 02:00 Flocking for Resource Finding 02:51 Applying Flocking to Church 03:00 The Seven Connections Concept 04:01 Implementing the Concept in Congregations 05:56 Diocesan Level Connections 07:53 Broader Implications and Conclusion 09:10 Preview of Next Video

On this week's Stansberry Investor Hour, Dan and Corey welcome Pete Carmasino back to the show. Pete is chief market strategist at our corporate affiliate Chaikin Analytics. He's also editor of the Chaikin PowerTactics and Chaikin PowerTrader newsletters. With more than 25 years of experience in the financial-services industry, Pete joins the podcast to share some of his wisdom on sector rotations, pullbacks, and the housing market. Pete kicks off the show by talking about the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates, unemployment ticking higher, and the difficulty bond managers are having with timing the market. He also shares his thoughts on the Sahm Rule indicator, which says we're currently in a recession. Pete believes that Fed Chair Jerome Powell will only do a 25-basis-point rate cut, but that ultimately Japan will be the deciding factor in Powell's decision. This leads to a conversation about sector rotation and which sectors are outperforming today. (0:43) Next, Pete gives pointers on how to find investing opportunities within market rotations and pullbacks. He explains that a lot of the sectors that are thriving today serve as bond proxies, and a lot of the individual stocks that investors are flocking to are safe havens that pay high dividends. After, Pete talks about the trend in oil and gas prices over the past two years and how it has been influenced by the White House's efforts to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. (18:46) Finally, Pete shares why he believes the housing market is on its way to reaching an "equilibrium" between buyers and sellers. He says housing prices can stay high (benefiting sellers) while interest-rate cuts will lower mortgages (benefiting buyers). Pete also cites increases to the lifetime gift/estate tax exemption as a reason for the influx of competitive all-cash housing transactions. (34:31)

In this episode of the New Evangelicals Podcast, Tim and April discuss various topics including Donald Trump's conversation with Elon Musk, the leaked Project 2025 training videos, and the conservative Christian view on climate change. They also touch on the anti-science sentiment within conservative Christianity and the impact it has on shaping policies and beliefs. The hosts provide commentary and humor throughout the episode. In this part of the conversation, Tim and April discuss the weirdness and oddity of certain aspects of right-wing politics, particularly within the evangelical community. They highlight the contradiction between the claim of being pro-family and pro-American while engaging in bizarre and extreme behavior. They mention the Christians for Harris and Evangelicals for Harris groups as examples of this mobilization. They emphasize the importance of thinking about political engagement in a wise and Jesus-centered way, rather than blindly aligning with a particular party. In this final part of the conversation, Tim and April discuss the intolerance and narrow-mindedness often found within evangelical circles. Takeaways Donald Trump's conversation with Elon Musk highlights the disconnect between the billionaire class and the average person, despite attempts to portray themselves as 'men of the people'. The leaked Project 2025 training videos reveal the anti-science and conspiracy-driven mindset within conservative circles, particularly regarding climate change and population control. The anti-intellectualism and dogmatic beliefs within conservative Christianity contribute to the rejection of scientific evidence and hinder progress in addressing climate change. It is important to differentiate between conservative evangelical Christians who hold a literal interpretation of the Bible and those who accept scientific evidence and advocate for responsible environmental stewardship. There is a growing mobilization of Christians who are rejecting the Trump-MAGA movement and advocating for a different approach to political discourse. It is important to think about political engagement in a wise and Jesus-centered way, rather than blindly aligning with a particular party. Today, Megan Glionna and Brian Brinkman of The Helping Friendly Podcast join Attendance Bias as we morph back into "Flocking Outside: A Miniseries About Goose From 3 Phish Lifers."About a year ago, the three of us released a 3-episode miniseries to get a handle on the sharp rise of Goose, and the tension that was building between the fanbases of Goose and Phish. Those episodes are still available if you scroll back to Attendance Bias episodes from June, 2023. In those three episodes, Brian and Megan gave me information about Goose's history as a band, and we discussed the context in which their profile was rising in the jamband scene.A year has passed since then, and Goose's story, as well as each of our own stories, has changed and expanded. In today's episode, which I think is a coda to the previous three, Megan, Brian, and I discuss the band's development of the past calendar year, how they've changed musically, how they've separated themselves from the jam scene, and how we've changed as fans. We hope you enjoy episode 4 (coda) of "Flocking Outside!"

Birds flock. Locusts swarm. Fish school. Within assemblies of organisms that seem as though they could get chaotic, order somehow emerges. The collective behaviors of animals differ in their details from one species to another, but they largely adhere to principles of collective motion that physicists have worked out over centuries. Now, using technologies that only recently became available, researchers have been able to study these patterns of behavior more closely than ever before. In this episode, the evolutionary ecologist Iain Couzin talks with co-host Steven Strogatz about how and why animals exhibit collective behaviors, flocking as a form of biological computation, and some of the hidden fitness advantages of living as part of a self-organized group rather than as an individual. They also discuss how an improved understanding of swarming pests such as locusts could help to protect global food security.
