This week Bradford brings us an episode of the Viceland comedy series "Nirvanna The Band The Show". The episode, titled "The Bean", follows its stars' attempt to sneak a float into the Toronto Christmas parade as a means of promoting their rock band that may or may not actually exist. Christmas gags abound on this episode, including a surprisingly detailed homage to the finer points of Home Alone, and The Usual Suspects (for some reason). Meanwhile, our hosts reminisce about their own experiences with Christmas parades, holiday TV, and more! Questions/Comments? For this episode I had a chat with DIY filmmaker Matt Johnson. Matt has found critical acclaim with his 2013 film The Dirties, a found-footage mockumentary film tackling the much discussed topic of gun control and bullying in a high school, which went on to win the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival. His following film Operation Avalanche saw him and his team infiltrate NASA to shoot another found footage project based around the topic of the Apollo 11 moon landings. Were the moon landings fake? Watch the film AND YOU DECIDE. But most recently, he has co-written and starred in the Vice comedy series Nirvanna The Band The Show with Jay McCarrol, where he plays a helpless musician, possibly with a large chip in his brain coming up with plans and schemes to play at his favourite restaurant. Sit back to our chat with a martini and steak bake... For more updates follow the podcast on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thecupodcast/
Giving me a platform to talk about the work of director Matt Johnson was perhaps a mistake. It made him too happy. The opportunity to talk about Nirvanna The Band The Show, Operation Avalanche, AND The Dirties?! Madness. Hopefully you listeners can tell how much I like this guy and his guerrilla style of filmmaker and I hope you consider watching his TV shows or films. Canada! Whodathunk. Also we discuss the Atlanta Child Murders HBO doc for all you true crime podcast fanatics. I hear true crime is very hip with the kids these days.
Happy New Years Eve All! In this episode Tom & Craig take a look back at the year that was 2019. We reminisce over our personal highlights of the year, including our interview with Nirvanna The Band The Show, starting a zine and attempting to eat 100 chicken nuggets in an hour! We also take a look back at our broader pop-culture high points from the past 12 months, including our favourite movies, games, TV shows and more. Thanks for tuning in to UDS Radio this year, expect more but better in 2020!
John and Jude get together to discuss Anthony Daniel's book, hear Jude's opinion on the Mandalorian, John begs you all to check out Nirvanna The Band The Show and hear about Jude's car crash! Loads more besides. Recorded in an incredibly noisy branch of Bill's. Thanks Bill's.

Mike welcomes Max on the phone from Hamilton. Mike, Max and Shane discuss why Shane’s latest feature interview didn’t go as planned. Matt Johnson & Jay McCarrol (“Nirvanna The Band The Show”) tell Shane about building the series, pitching to Spike Jonze and Viceland, parody law, David Blaine, story, shooting without permission, music, improv, Nathan Fielder and their characters. For dessert, Shane presents a conversation with J.R. Digs recorded at Long Point Lodge where he describes their meeting at the MMVAs, giving Shane his first job in TV, Nathan Fielder, struggles with production costs, happiness and personal integrity.
