This is 2022 and for whatever reason I'm having some time at my hands so I'm remastering the old episodes. This means re-inserting all the music taken from proper sources and other minor tweaks to make it sound better. The original music was just recorded as played in the room from some shitty PC speakers. I went into the master and put the tracks in properly. I also tweaked some other parameters of the audio and converted it to mono as should always be the case for podcasts. The original ep was uploaded in 2015. For this one in particular I'd like to mention that the new show is longer than the original cut because I included the tracks in their entirety without voice-over first before following this up with the version from the original recording since we apparently used to talk over the music in 2015 which was dropped in later episodes and I wanted to present both the original track in pure form and the voice-over one. Also there is a bonus early surprise visit by JS (the old c) during the Dracula track from Quantum Leap! Here is the original description: Broken Chair Scores Episode 8 is only 10 minutes longer than we planned it to be but this way you get two oldschoolers talk browsers, music streaming services and the fact that you can actually buy mp3-files legally. And just like a pepperoni and ice cream pizza, we're bringing you two great tastes that taste great together! We're joined by writer, comedian, and vinyl addict Brock Wilbur with a couple of great features and some good discussion about video game music pressed onto records! First, we're beginning with the Black Screen Records release of Vampyr, by Olivier Derivière. This dark adventure game from DONTNOD sits on the cusp of action and adventure, Victorian and industrial. The music by Derivière similarly rides a line between melodic and neo-classical sounds. Brock leads us through his (extensive) experience with the game, and highlights the unique sound available on this blood-infused vinyl release. We continue with Anthony's pick of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game, an unofficial release of the NES power duo from the late 80s. Based (loosely, in some cases) on the comic and television series, these Konami games earned distinctive places in the memories of gamers of the day... and not always for the best reasons. However, the soundtracks are above reproach, and we feature some shell-shocking picks to take you back to a more turtle-powered time. We cover the new releases and happenings in the world of game music on vinyl record. The financial damage isn't too bad this time, but there are a few to keep an eye out for! Finally, we sit down with Brock and look our ugly addictions right in the face. Based on the article he wrote last year for Medium on the topic. Olivier Derivière is an award-winning composer who has scored music for animation, films and video games and is widely acclaimed for both his composition and innovative approaches to connecting music with the game experience. Some of his groundbreaking titles, Remember Me, Supernova, Obscure, Assassin's Creed IV Freedom Cry and his previously annotated score for GET EVEN. One of his most recent video game scores is for the DONTNOD video game, VAMPYR.In Vampyr you play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a famous surgeon and blood transfusion specialist freshly turned into a vampire after arriving back in his home city of London following the Great War. A man of logic and science, Reid's firm beliefs are turned inside-out upon awakening to a once-hidden world of secret societies, ungodly creatures and ancient orders set upon ending his existence. All the while, London's population crumbles under the pressure of a terrible disease – and Dr. Reid may be the city's last hope to stop it.Olivier Deriviere returns to THE ANNOTATOR and shares about his main theme from the game and how he heavily employs the cello, throughout the score, to capture the loneliness and struggle of the game's main character. He details Eric-Marier Couturier's cello performance which makes use of the double string technique to express the core struggle between the doctor and the vampyr. Deriviere also tells us how he found working on this game a unique privilege despite Vampyr's main theme centering on the theme of death and how he wrote some of the darkest and most emotional music while dealing with the loss of his own grandmother.
