Episode #423 of BGMania: A Video Game Music Podcast. Today on the show, Bryan and Kyle are stepping into the bizarre, unpredictable, and occasionally completely unhinged world of Mewgenics, the long-awaited cat-breeding RPG-simulation hybrid from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel. After years of delays, redesigns, and total reinventions behind the scenes, Mewgenics has finally emerged as one of the strangest games in quite some time. Rather than focusing heavily on the soundtrack this week, the conversation leans much more into the experience of actually playing the game itself: the overwhelming amount of mechanics thrown at the player, the weird sense of humor, the endless experimentation, and the constant feeling that the game is either moments away from brilliance or complete collapse. It's a fascinating mix of strategy RPG combat, absurd cat management, and rogue-like unpredictability that somehow manages to feel both incredibly ambitious and completely exhausting at the same time. Email the show at bgmaniapodcast@gmail.com with requests for upcoming episodes, questions, feedback, comments, concerns, or any other thoughts you'd like to share! Special thanks to our Executive Producers: Jexak, Xancu, Jeff & Mike. Roger sits down to break down one of his all-time favorite home invasion horror flicks—Alone in the Dark (1982). Donald Pleasance plays yet another questionable psychiatrist while Martin Landau and Jack Palance absolutely steal the show as escaped mental patients, this movie doesn't care if you're comfortable at all .Is it the first home invasion horror? Nope.Is it one of the most entertaining and unpredictable? Absolutely.Roger dives into what makes this cult classic so wild, why the characters are completely off the rails, and why this is a must-watch for any horror fan who likes their movies a little unhinged.#deepcutpodcast #aloneinthedark #horrorpodcast #horrormovies #80shorror #homeinvasion #cultclassic #donaldpleasance #jackpalance #martinlandau #horrorcommunity #moviereview #underratedhorror #horrorfans #fyp
Today we're going on a scary and cold trek together to try and find out if this story is simply another tragedy that occurred on the peak, or if the person who made back alive, knows more than what they've told. Let's head on over Austria now, this is Left Alone in the Dark: Fatal Decisions on the Mountain
In this episode, David Wollen reflects on how Spurgeon brought even the darkest questions to Jesusand where lasting hope can be found for those who are weary and hurting.
Send us your feedback — we're listeningLONELINESS, NIGHT DESPAIR, “JESUS STAY CLOSE TO ME TONIGHT” Matthew 28:20 — Jesus, Stay Close to Me Tonight When I Feel Alone in the Dark From London to Berlin, Auckland, Tel Aviv, Chicago, Dublin, Vancouver, and Cape Town — millions are searching these very words tonight: “Jesus, please stay with me. I feel so alone.” Matthew 28:20 (NIV): “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Psalm 34:18 (NIV): “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Jesus, as this new day begins and the world grows still, I bring You the heaviness that settles on me when silence becomes loud and loneliness tries to swallow my peace. These mirror exactly what the world is searching for right now: I feel alone tonight prayer, Jesus stay with me, night loneliness prayer, help me through the dark hours, I feel abandoned prayer, fear of being alone at night, Holy Spirit comfort me, prayer for emotional loneliness, Jesus hold me together, prayer for despair and isolation. Jesus, stay close to me. Let Your presence wrap around me like light in the darkness. Speak peace into the places where fear has settled. Hold my heart when it feels fragile. Strengthen my mind when thoughts begin to spiral. Remind me that I am never abandoned, never forgotten, never unseen. Guard me against the lies of isolation. Let Your nearness become more real than my fear. Where I feel disconnected, draw me in. Where loneliness whispers that I am unloved, speak truth over me. Where my heart aches for reassurance, breathe Your comfort. Where memories or worries rise up, silence them with Your authority. Where emptiness tries to overwhelm me, fill me with Your Spirit until peace replaces sorrow. I declare tonight that I am not alone — Jesus is with me, Jesus is for me, Jesus surrounds me, Jesus watches over me, Jesus strengthens me, Jesus holds me steady. The darkness will not win. Loneliness will not rule my night. His presence is my refuge, His love is my covering, and His peace is my rest. Filmmaker Uwe Boll (POSTAL, ALONE IN THE DARK, IN THE NAME OF THE KING, SEED, BLOODRAYNE, FIRST SHIFT, RAMPAGE) joins Adam and Joe to discuss his career journey and the making of his latest feature RUN (now available on VOD platforms). From the films that originally inspired him to become a filmmaker… to how he learned the business side of filmmaking by just doing it… to his strategy with casting and how he has been able to work with such names as Ben Kingsley, Michael Paré, J.K. Simmons, Amanda Plummer, James Russo and many more on his films even though they are produced outside of the Hollywood system… to the many ways that the death of physical media and the rise of streaming has kneecapped the way that movies used to be made… to why being an "outsider" has given him the ability to not compromise and to tackle different genres as provocatively as he feels the story requires… to the making of his latest film RUN and why he chose to tackle the worldwide immigration crisis by showing the many different perspectives on it… to the incredible experience he had working with Amanda Plummer on the film and how he rewrote the role of "Anna" to fit her natural vulnerability… to which role in POSTAL actor Zack Ward (TITUS, A CHRISTMAS STORY) actually auditioned for… to a lengthy conversation about his career long battle with critics and internet trolls that culminated in him getting in a boxing ring to go ten rounds each with 5 of his harshest critics in 2006… and how he really felt after defeating his detractors in the ring (including what the cameras DIDN'T capture between the victor and his defeated critics the very next day)… Uwe shares how he has managed to keep fighting no matter what anyone else has to say.

Cooper and Nolan are searching for the light switch this week when they find themselves ALONE IN THE DARK! Unlike the well-cast early 80s horror movie of the same name, this mid 2000s movie stars Christian Slater, Tara Reid, and Stephen Dorff, yet somehow was NOT a straight-to-video release. It's also based on a video game, which might explain the paper thin characters and nonsensical plot (but not why the CGI is so incredibly bad). Still, that won't stop the guys from feeling around for something to grab on to, so don't be afraid; this episode (featuring a beer from the Field House Brewing Co.) is one you won't mind being alone with!

Getting Through the Tough Times Oh the nights are so tough! Have you been there? Have you laid in the utter darkness and the quiet is deafening, the pain is unbearable, and you feel like you will ever get through this moment of phantom pain? Yep, the reality is, we all go through it at some point or another, to varying degrees. The last two nights, for me, have started great, I feel asleep and wasn't feeling anything in the way of phantom pain. However, as soon as I shift, the sensations would start and the I couldn't shut them off! It's almost unbearable. To sit in the dark, feeling like your body is screaming out loud, and no one else knows. My husband, laying right next to me, has no idea what I am feeling or that I am even going through this.... and he won't know until morning. Have you experienced this? How about when you are out and about in a crowded store or venue, and your limb is on fire, or a sore within your socket is rubbing raw and stinging? And no one knows the pain you are feeling as you stand in line at the grocery store? Such is the life of an amputee. It comes and goes. Most of the time there is no warning, it just comes at you. So how do you deal with this, seeing as this is your life now? First off, we all deal with pain differently, what works for one person won't work for another. As you experience these "episodes" you will learn what works for you (oh, and for added fun, what worked last time for you might not work the next). You can only prepare yourself for the mental battles ahead. Communicate. Let the people around you know how you are feeling and what you need. They can't see what's happening within you and not everyday, all day is bad. Make sure you speak up and not assume they understand. Build mental toughness. Use positivity and positive self-talk to get through hard times. You can redirect how your brain process what you are going through by the way you address it, internally and out loud. Try not to fall back on medications every time you feel "out of sorts". This goes for people dealing with the average phantom sensations/pains. I do not know what you've been going through and what you have been prescribed, so you need to do what you need to do but I will tell you that I will only use Tylenol or Advil once in a blue moon, when all else fails and when I can't take anymore. There is no right way to handle an episode, but if you can stay away from prescription medication, and start leaning on your own devices to handle the mental situation, then do it. You'll be stronger in the long run and your body will thank you. These moments are truly times to develop your mental toughness. Sometimes we just need to hit them head on to become a stronger version of ourselves so we are ready for the next battle. Finding time for myself to breathe and let go, helps me thru hard times Don't forget you were made to fight, and survive. You are a Warrior, you just need to unleash its within you and believe that you are strong enough to handle it. Rise up, Warrior, and face your battles with inner strength! You can do it, and you are not alone! I pray you have a wonderful week ahead, And as always, Be Healthy, Be Happy, Be YOU!!! Much love, Remember: You are Beautiful, so just Be-YOU!
The nice thing about adapting a video game to the big screen is that the story is already there, there's a template for the characters and you have a ready-to-watch audience. January has historically been the month that studios release the movies that...didnt test so well. This month we have got two shining examples of that. Yes! Only two, you may have noticed. Unfortunately, the comedic gem that is "Codename: The Cleaner" was dumped from streaming before we could hate watch it. Good news is theres plenty of bad with the other picks. IG

What is the point of any of this??? What does life even mean anymore?!?! Watching Alone in the Dark is like stepping into a surreal nightmare where logic, talent, and coherence take a permanent vacation. Directed by Uwe Boll, the film somehow manages to turn a moderately creepy video game series into a cinematic trainwreck so inexplicably bad it's almost mesmerizing. Let's start with Tara Reid, whose performance as "Dr. Aline Cedrac" is the kind of thing you'd expect from someone who Googled “archaeologist” five minutes before arriving on set. Reid delivers lines like she's trying to remember if she left the oven on, her scientist character less "Indiana Jones" and more "lost intern who wandered into the wrong set." Her chemistry with Christian Slater is nonexistent—though to be fair, Slater himself looks like he's plotting his escape mid-scene. The plot is the cinematic equivalent of dumping puzzle pieces from three different games onto the floor and calling it "art." Something about ancient artifacts, a secret government agency, monsters from another dimension, and the unexplained disappearance of common sense. Characters reference backstories and motivations that the movie never bothers to show or explain, leaving viewers wondering if they accidentally skipped an hour. But don't worry—it wouldn't make sense even if you had the context. Nothing in this world adheres to any internal logic. The creatures are impervious to bullets until they suddenly aren't, characters forget their own objectives, and physics behaves like it's being controlled by a drunken toddler with a dartboard. There's a moment when flashlights become pivotal to survival, except the characters don't seem particularly invested in keeping them working. Why? Who knows! Consistency is for amateurs. Then there's the action, if you can call it that. Imagine someone yelling, “Action!” and the cast collectively deciding to flop around and fire guns into the dark. The choreography is stilted, the editing is headache-inducing, and the monster effects are so bad they look like rejected renders from a 90s PC game. Somehow, Uwe Boll takes things that should be inherently exciting—gunfights, explosions, and supernatural horror—and makes them as thrilling as watching beige paint dry. And yet, in its complete and utter failure at being a movie, Alone in the Dark achieves a kind of perverse charm. It's like a black hole of quality so dense it warps reality into something entertaining. You can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all—the wooden acting, the nonsensical dialogue, the budget-bin special effects. It's a film you watch with friends, drinks, and the understanding that you're witnessing a masterpiece of mediocrity. Verdict: Alone in the Dark is not just bad—it's spectacularly, gloriously, hilariously bad. For aficionados of cinematic disasters, it's a must-watch. For everyone else? Save yourself.
PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Jack Sholder (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2, THE HIDDEN, ARACHNID, WISHMASTER 2) joins Adam and Joe to discuss his career journey. From his beginnings in entertainment as a trumpet player… to his obsession with cinema leading to his eventual career path working as an editor on such classics as THE BURNING (1981)… to becoming a feature director wrangling the “interesting” character that is Jack Palance in the cult-classic ALONE IN THE DARK (1982)… to his stories from the making of 1985's A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE (the “tongue” story is a particular gem)… to his particular choice of lens sizes when crafting one of the best car chases from the 80's in THE HIDDEN (1987)… to what it was like directing the late James Earl Jones in his acclaimed HBO movie BY DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT (1990)… there's a good reason why Jack was one of the most consistent working directors in the fledgling New Line Cinema roster!

Spooky season is in full swing and the guys have got a lovely trick (or treat) up their sleeves for you. For their second Halloween special, we are reviewing not one, but two films for you. First up we have the absolute classic that is Uwe Boll's Alone In The Dark, followed by Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands. We begin this week as always, by discussing what we've been watching, including things such as The Killers Game, Vince McMahon, and Sam and Jim gush over Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. This episode delivers some VERY hot takes from Jim (shock), some of which Nick struggled to comprehend. Sam and Nick tell a story of their struggles with Indian dubbing. And even with two film reviews, we still manage to find time for another edition of Audio Aperitif, can Jim claw one back? Will Nick continue his winning ways? or will Sam continue his hijinx?

Hoff Matthews joins the boys in the ring to face off against Uwe Boll's ALONE IN THE DARK. Is this VERY LOOSE video game adaptation starring the poorman's Jack Nicolson (Christian Slater) and the poorman's Christian Slater (Stephen Dorff) really as bad as its reputation would have us believe? Or will the boys be too afraid to criticize it since the director LITERALLY beats up his critics? Either way, we're sure Uwe would say: ‘Ihr Könnt mich alle Mal'.RELEASE THE BOLL CUT!Follow us on Instagram to keep updated about our monthly live shows!Check out more from Justin here: justindodd.rocks Check out more from Steve here: stevejhward.com drinkgenies.com
My guest today is the German filmmaker Uwe Boll. Born in Wermelskirchen he decided he wanted to direct films at the age of ten, after seeing Marlon Brando star in Mutiny on the Bounty. It wasn't until he was in his mid-thirties, however, that he directed his first major motion picture, Blackwoods, a psychological thriller that a critic for the New York Times described as ‘smart and diabolical'.It was, however, his adaptations of video games for which he made his name. House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, Far Cry and Postal were just some of the games he adapted to film. Not all of them lost money, but most were derided by reviewers. My guest did not shy away from engaging his harshest critics, however. In 2006 he challenged five of them to a boxing match. Ten years later he announced his retirement from filmmaking. Nevertheless, since then he has announced several new projects, including First Shift, a police drama set in the New York, that released in the summer.Links:Boll Films Official WebsiteGame Over, Uwe Boll -- Vanity Fair. Can you believe it has been 12 years since the release of Dragon's Dogma?! As we finally delve into Dragon's Dogma II, one of our most anticipated games of the year, we revel in just how impressive it is despite the formula having changed very little. To Brad's point, the game hasn't changed much but WE have changed a lot in those 12 years. In this episode we also take some time to check in on our Community Fantasy Critic Leagues now that we are a quarter of the way through the year and Chris Davis gives us an overview of the first Judas preview coverage that is rolling out this week. Also, if you were waiting for Nick to play Alone in the Dark... get ready... because he didn't; Chris Davis did... Twice.
