It's our annual Oscars episode, with our resident Oscars Scholar, Denise Rodriguez*! Despite the fabulous "Sinners" getting a record 16 noms, we found some egregious snubs to discuss: Eva Victor, Naomi Ackie, and "Sorry, Baby"; Jesse Plemons for "Bugonia", Jennifer Lawrence and "Die My Love", to name a few. We get hot and heavy about the new casting category (only one man nominated here), "Sinners" and the other films/performances nominated that we loved. Plus, the perpetual injustice of the Diane Warren nomination, and why it's time for a Best Performance By a Non-Binary Actor category. *Denise has recently launched an exciting new service: Menopause Doula! She explains that menopause starts much earlier than you might think. And traditional medicine is not cutting the mustard on diagnosis and treatment. Check out her website for more information and also connect with her and other middle-aged uterus owners on instagram and facebook.
The Oscars are almost here! On the fifty- eighth episode of ATFT, my friends filmmaker Emma Catherine, movie lover Taylor Donaldson, and Emmy- winning photojournalist Cole Echevarria join this year's panel to discuss the Oscar nominated films and share our predicted winners! This episode is explicit and spoiler- filled. As Cole and I discussed in the “2025 in Film” episode, this past year has been a solid, diverse year for cinema and that is very much reflected in the Academy Award nominees. This year's awards season has largely been excitingly unpredictable, making the Oscar's more highly anticipated than usual. The four of us share many of the same favorite 2025 films such as Hamnet, One Battle After Another, and Sinners. The latter, which reunited one of the best actor- director collaborators of our time (Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler), has already made history as the most nominated film in Oscars history. There were several actors who became first time nominees from Renate Reinsve to Teyana Taylor to Delroy Lindo. It's a competitive year with so many great films and artists nominated. But there is one particular film and actor that we find overrated and it becomes a continuous topic of discussion… but you'll have to listen to the episode to find out about what we're talking about. This is the fourth annual Oscars special! Cole has been a part of this big episode all four years and this episode marks his 21st appearance on the All the Film Things! Since the Oscars is the “Super Bowl for film fans”, this episode was aimed to be more of a Sports Center/ panelist format. This is the first time Emma and Taylor have joined the Oscars special panel, making this Emma's second appearance on the show and Taylor's fifth! Emma joined our friend filmmaker Franklin Ritch and I for an analytical discussion on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this past September while Taylor hasn't been on the podcast since the 1999 in Film episode, which was released a year and a half ago. This episode was recorded on February 17, 2026. It was originally 2 hours and 45 minutes so it really had to be trimmed down and, sadly, some hilarious moments, were left on the cutting room floor. After a sold out Cirque de Mort show in October, Emma will soon be performing in another aerial showcase for Jax Beach Aerial Arts this May! This spring showcase is in development so there will be more information to come! I'll be sure to post about it on the All the Films Things Instagram but follow Emma on Instagram to stay updated! Taylor, who is based in North Carolina, is currently looking for a new job! Though she has a degree in film and experience in film production, she is very open to working in other industries. After working with her on a few projects, I can attest she is wonderful, hard- working, and easy to work with! Reach out to her on LinkedIn about potential job opportunities! In this episode, Cole, Taylor, Emma, and I go through each category sharing our thoughts on what should win and what will likely win, according to Gold Derby and Cole's new favorite writer Scott Fineberg from The Hollywood Reporter. Cole, who continuously brings up Fineberg, shared great insight about the documentaries nominated this year. He also has a short rant about a film that shouldn't have been nominated for Best Visual Effects. Cole and I's banter nearly hits our peak in this episode, partly because of those two reasons. Taylor reveals which Oscar- nominated actor scares her, Emma shares her least favorite Safdie brother and I once again champion my favorite actor who has a chance at earning his second Oscar this year. All this and much more on this new episode of All the Film Things!ATFT Announcement!: All the Film Things will be back on April 8! Stay updated by following @all.the.film.things on Instagram! Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we usually talk about movie stars and not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between. Today, however, we talk about Oscar movies (!), or better yet, movies that remind us of Oscar movies! Conor and I welcome back the lovely Joe Reid (co-host of This Had Oscar Buzz, creator of Cinematrix, and Vulture's Movies Fantasy League) & Chris Feil (co-host of This Had Oscar Buzz and writer of a series of great pieces of Oscar history for Vanity Fair). Today, we each choose a movie adjacent to a current Best Picture Oscar nominee. The movies include Seconds, The Name of the Rose, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Wolverine. Also discussed is filmmaker Bill Morrison's nomination for his incredible short film Incident, Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1981 film Quest for Fire, and our recent This Had Oscar Buzz guest appearance talking about The Devil's Own. Additionally, there's conversation about Rob McElhenney's Hot Ones episode (in which he discusses the trauma of being cut out of The Devil's Own as a young actor!), the “Hellfire” sequence in Hunchback, and how exactly The Wolverine counts as a B-Side. Be sure to give us a follow on Bluesky at @tfsbside.bsky.social. Enjoy!
It's here, the world's first Emilia Pérez fan podcast!....or maybe not...In a break from the annual tradition, joining Johnny this year on the red carpet is Podzilla & 1978podcaster Jasher Drake, who's turned up a week early at the Dolby Theatre to pounce on unsuspecting celebrities. But fear not, Johnny's usual date for the Academy Awards, the irrepressible Daíbhid MacCann, has sent through his thoughts on who, what and why at this year's ceremony. Daíbhid's whereabouts are currently unknown, but the word on the street is that he's currently in Mexico researching medical operations on the behalf of the local cartel kingpin. We take a look at the recent James Bond Amazon Prime firesale debacle, we discuss sad movies and claymation penises, and we ponder just how one particular film has managed to offend every minority it set out to represent, and bagged 13 nominations in the process. This conversation was recorded online in late February of 2025. Thanks to James Van As who wrote and performed the brilliant podcast music (check out James' Loco Looper game) and to Willow Van As who designed the amazing artwork and provided general podcast support. You can contact My Movie DNA on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter @mymovieDNA or email mymovieDNA@gmail.com.
The Oscars are almost here! On the thirty- seventh episode of ATFT, my friends Emm- winning photojournalist, writer/ director Samy El- Kamel, and director Craig Ienne Pedroza join this year's panel to discuss the Oscar nominated films and share our predicted winners! This episode is explicit.2024 was a mixed year for us… Cole and Craig believe 2024 was a great year for cinema while Samy and I don't quite share that opinion. This year's awards season has become plagued by various controversies and many believing this is not as competitive as last year's Oscar race. For the 2025 Academy Awards, Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez earned the most nominations(13) this year whileboth The Brutalist and Wicked tied for second, earning 10 nominations each.Other films that received many nominations are Conclave, Anora, and The Substance. So many categories are up in the air with no film expected to sweep, leaving audiences torn on who will win. Will it be Sean Baker or Brady Corbet who takes home the Director Oscar? How about who will win Best Actress: Demi Moore, Fernanda Torres or Mikey Madison? These are just two of the widely debated categories. We will soon learn the answer on Sunday, March 2!This is the first time each of the ATFT regulars are all together for an episode! This is Cole's eighteenth appearance on ATFT (seventh on this wide release), Samy's eleventh (fourth on the wide release), and Craig's sixth appearance (fourth on the wide release). This is the third annual Oscars special! Cole and I recorded the 2022 Oscars special through the Relevnt app, which is currently in the vault. The first wide released Oscars special (give Episode 15 a listen) was last year's 2023 Oscars special with Cole, Craig, and past guest Lina Smith. Since the Oscars is the “Super Bowl for film fans”, this episode was aimed to be more of a Sports Center- format. This episode was recorded on February 6, 2025. Cole recently won an Emmy for his work with First Coast News on the news package “Waiting for Rebuild”! Watch the full news package here!: https://youtu.be/Pa1m0qm8h-Q. Samy's latest short film “Waveform” will be making the rounds at film festivals soon so stay tuned by following his production company on Instagram and Youtube @barefootpythonmedia! Craig recently directed the short film “Floating Daisies” which will also begin its film festival run soon. Stay updated on that project by following @floatingdaisiesfilm on Instagram and Craig on both Instagram and Youtube @iennefilm!In this episode,Cole, Samy, Craig and I go through each category and discuss our predicted winners. The categories are discussed in the order of which the categories were read at last year's Oscars. There are very few categories we unanimously agree on. Arguments are had, impressions are hilariously done, and the power of friendship lives on. All this and much more on the latest episode of All the Film Things!ATFT Announcement!: All the Film Things will be back on March 26! Stay updated by following @all.the.film.things on Instagram! On the twentieth episode of ATFT, I talk with director Craig Ienne Pedroza! Craig is a Jacksonville filmmaker who fell in love with cinema at a young age and his passion for film has only grown through the years. Musicals like The Court Jester, Singin' in the Rain, and The Sound of Music were some of the first musicals that have impacted him to this day. His favorite film is Damian Chazelle's La La Land. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Film & Production last year and has won both the Best Micro Short at Infinity Fest and Best Jax 180 at the Apologia Film Festival for his short film "The Candles are Wilting", which you can watch on YouTube by clicking here!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXecwF6x0xU. This is Craig's third guest appearance on the wide release of ATFT! He was previously a guest on the episodes #FilmTwitter Trends: Directors edition and the 2024 Oscars Special. Overall, this is his fifth guest appearance on the show. This episode marks the first time I have interviewed a friend on ATFT! Craig and I became friends through our mutual friend, Taylor, who helped recruit him to join our team of making a short film. Craig was incredibly helpful and gave me advice I really needed at the time amidst the stressful environment. We share similar interests in film, especially in regards to Wong Kar- Wai. Two years later, we often talk or text about film and I love learning of his often fascinating, unique takes. When I started this podcast two years ago, it was always my intention to interview my friends but I grew somewhat hesitant since I expected I would know many of the answers to the questions asked. I ended up learning so much about Craig and I couldn't be happier with what became of this episode. This episode was recorded on May 10, 2024. Craig's musical drama short, "We Dream of Eden", has been long anticipated. The film is about dreams and how a stranger can have a strong impact on another. The story is told through a young boy, Noah's (Aisha Christopher Williams jr), eyes and his fractured memories of the turbulent relationship between up- and- coming star July (Lina Smith) and her boyfriend Rowan (Jadon Le). Lina Smith has been a guest on two previously released episodes: Horror films and the 2024 Oscars Special! I was very fortunate to work on this film as a script supervisor but more so capturing behind the scenes footage. Craig's goal for the film is for the audience to leave the theater with a certain, individualized and impactful feeling. Craig led a positive and collaborative set filled with people who share a deep passion for film. "We Dream of Eden" will be submitted to a few film festivals so stay updated on when and where you can watch the short film by following @iennefilm on both Instagram and YouTube as well as his production company KAIBIGANfilm on Instagram. Craig gives a very real, honest interview that spans from his early interest in film thanks to his grandparents and mother to reflecting on his previous work to his boldest project yet, "We Dream of Eden". His story and work ethic is sure to inspire aspiring filmmakers. In this episode, Craig and I also talk about the brilliance of 12 Angry Men, the challenges of filmmaking, and how he opened up and became more social thanks to three factors including film and his girlfriend Lina. This week Paul & Amy are digging into all things Oscars and the Best Picture Nominees of 2024. The two ask, "was Barbie the most culturally significant film of 2023 and could it win Best Picture?" and "should Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things be thirty minutes shorter?" Then, Paul and Amy challenge each other to get every Oscar category wrong, because they can't help but to vote with their hearts. We invite you, the listener, to get the Oscars wrong with us! Download your Unspooled Gets It Wrong Oscar Ballot at https://www.unspooledpodcast.com/ or https://www.earwolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Oscars_Ballot_2024.pdf Next week, Paul & Amy are talking about The Martian! Surprise! we are popping in with a special episode to recap some of our favorite movies of the year and to talk about changes in the movie landscape. some things for better, some things for worse. It was a big year for movies. some of our favorite directors had some huge swings. we get into it.
It's time again for Jon and Andy to strip away the phony tinsel of Hollywood and find the real tinsel underneath, as they consider this year's Oscar nominees for Best Original Score. Is it possible that our hosts are feeling less cranky this year? What are some different ideas these movies have for using music to fill time? And, did you notice that this episode is still shorter than two of these five nominated films?
Spring may be a few weeks away, but like Moira Rose, award season will always be our most favorite time of year! We welcome our good Judy Joshua Clement to talk about the 2024 Academy Awards, which will be on Sunday March 10th at the Dolby theater. We break down this year's nominees in every category - and talk about the very up in the air best actress race. It's one of the closest major categories in years. Will it be Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone, or Sandra Hüller? Let's face it - we love Annette Bening and Carey Mulligan but it's just not their year. We also fully acknowledge the very likely Oppenheimer sweep as well as the overblown Barbie "controversy". If you want to get deep in the weeds with some real Inside Baseball Oscar talk, you've come to the right place. Break out your ballots and your rented Harry Winston jewels and join us for our annual Oscars Special!
