This episode was with Mr. Mak and Mr. Binu from HBA two names that have redefined global hospitality and luxury design. They spoke about how HBA was built, how it grew across continents, and what it takes to manage multiple design studios under one vision. What stood out to me was their clarity on how culture, detail, and human emotion play such a crucial role in shaping great design. We discussed the difference between Indian and international clients, the story of how MAK entered real estate, and even an interesting chapter about the Jewish Museum. Their definition of luxury wasn't about money or material it was about emotion, experience, and identity. The conversation went deeper into topics like why details matter while constructing homes, how to build true luxury in Mumbai, and the importance of designing amenities for every age group.Beyond the design side, they shared their thoughts on the challenges of working in India, the rise of global designers shaping Indian projects, and what the future of Mumbai's infrastructure could look like. This episode isn't just about architecture or design it's about understanding people, culture, and how global design philosophies can beautifully blend with India's soul.Timestamps:00:00 Trailer01:35 Introduction03:02 What is HBA?04:59 How HBA manages different verticals07:17 Building studios to acquiring studios reason08:13 Branches of HBA around the globe10:13 Difference between Indian & foreign clients explained by Binu13:31 The story of MAK into real estate16:40 Jewish museum story18:47 Definition of luxury by man24:22 Activity done with customers before starting the work33:13 Why details matter while constructing homes35:53 Timelines for the projects38:15 Learnings from project40:40 Experience working in India41:48 Challenges in India46:21 Best stone work in India?48:28 How to build luxury in Mumbai56:25 Importance of amenities for each age group59:24 The future of Padel courts globally59:55 How global designers can shape India in the coming future1:03:05 Future of Mumbai infrastructure01:04:47 Conclusion

TAMMY KANAT Fibre Artist with Sidra Moshinsky Director and CEO of the Jewish Museum of Australia Well I know this next guest very well she's my talented sister and artist Tammy Kanat I've watched her dedicate herself to evolving her craft and blossoming into a fibre artist whose beautiful pieces adorn many homes including mine!Tammy is a Melbourne-based fibre artist whose practice is driven by curiosity, intuition, and a deep sense of experimentation. Her work unfolds as an evolving narrative, shaped by colour, movement, and emotion. Using custom hand-formed copper looms, including her signature circular frames, Kanat pushes beyond the traditional boundaries of tapestry, creating intricate compositions that move fluidly between geometric and organic forms. Her style is deeply contemplative, drawing from her internal world and guided by a rhythmic, meditative process.I'd also like to welcome Sidra Moshinsky Director and CEO of the Jewish Museum of Australia where Tammy's latest exhibition Circle of Her is featured.Deborah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/what.ive.learnt/Mind, Film and Publishing: https://www.mindfilmandpublishing.com/Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/what-ive-learnt/id153556330Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3TQjCspxcrSi4yw2YugxBkBuzzsprout: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1365850

This summer, The Jewish Museum is examining the life and work of a local artist who dared to be different. Ben Shahn was born in present day Lithuania in 1898, but immigrated to Brooklyn as a boy after his father was exiled to Siberia. Shahn began a life of using his art to respond to historical moments with social realism, from the Great Depression to the Vietnam War. Dr. Laura Katzman, professor of art history at James Madison University, and Dr. Stephen Brown, curator at the Jewish Museum discuss, "Ben Shahn, On Nonconformity," on view through October 12.
THE INTIFADA HAS BEEN GLOBALIZED IN BOULDER And not just Boulder. Let's not forget that in a very short period of time an anti-Semite tried to burn down the Governor of Pennsylvania's mansion with him and his family in it, two people were murdered outside a Jewish Museum in DC, and now we have a man throwing flammable devices, likely Molotov cocktails, at a group of mostly elderly people walking down the Pearl Street Mall to remind people that there are still hostages in Gaza. Eight people have been injured, one of them quite badly, and they ranged in age from 52 to 88. The man who did it was shouting about Palestine and his name is Mohamed Sabry Soliman.
Two Israeli Embassy employees were shot and killed Wednesday night as they left the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The suspect in the killing, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, was initially "observed pacing back and forth outside of the museum" before he approached a group of four people, "produced a handgun," and shot the two victims. As he was handcuffed, Rodriguez repeatedly shouted "Free Palestine.” The shooting was being investigated as a hate crime, a law enforcement source said. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the details of the case that don't exactly add up, and Israel's history of staging false flag operations to achieve geopolitcal objectives. Plus segments on Piers Morgan's recent turn against Israel, Trump's “Big, Beautiful Bill” passing the House and evidence that the Biden administration covered up serious side effects from the mRNA vaccines. Also featuring Stef Zamorano, Kim Bright and Mary Holland. And a phone call from JD Vance!

In Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Fenix, a museum about migration, has just opened, featuring a dramatic stainless steel tornado form on its roof. We discuss the museum with its director, Anne Kremers. And this episode's Work of the Week is by an immigrant artist, Ben Shahn, who was born in modern-day Lithuania but travelled as a child to the US, where he became a leading painter associated with Social Realism. Among his greatest achievements was the mural The Meaning of Social Security, painted between 1940 and 1942 in Washington D.C. to reflect the benefits of the then-recent Social Security Act. Shahn is the subject of a major show that opened this week at the Jewish Museum in New York. We speak to Laura Katzman, the co-curator of the exhibition with the Jewish Museum's Stephen Brown, about Harvesting Wheat (1941), Shahn's study for one of the figures in the mural. The Tinguely Museum in Basel, Switzerland, has a permanent display of his work; Scream Machines–Art Ghost Train, by Rebecca Moss and Augustin Rebetez, Tinguely Museum, until 30 August; Mechanics and Humanity: Eva Aeppli and Jean Tinguely, Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, Germany, until 24 August; Niki de Saint Phalle & Jean Tinguely: Myths & Machines, Hauser & Wirth Somerset, Bruton, UK, until 1 February 2026; Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, Pontus Hultén, Grand Palais, Paris, 20 June-4 January 2026.The Fenix museum is open now.Ben Shahn: On Nonconformity, Jewish Museum, New York, 23 May-12 October.
