Hope everyone survived Cinco de Mayo. I was in bed by about 6:30pm after getting almost no sleep last night due to our late return from Nashville. Now I'm all caught up on sleep & ready to go. In the news this morning, the entire police department in Arcadia is gone, there's a recall on tomatoes, nobody injured in a fire at the Pablo Center, a boat capsized off the coast of San Diego and several people are dead or unaccounted for, Skype is no longer a thing, and the Rochester mom in a viral video from last week has now raised over $500,000 in GoFundeMe donations. In sports, the Brewers beat the Astros last night, we recapped the NBA & NHL action from last night, and we took a look at the upcoming NBA & NHL playoff schedules. The Ravens have cut Justin Tucker and Michigan's head coach is getting suspended for at least two games next season. Elsewhere in sports, the fan who fell over the wall at the Pirates game is up & walking again, and guess who's got the best selling rookie jersey in the NFL right now? We let you know what's on TV today and what's new on New Release Tuesday. And as we always do on Tuesday mornings, we talked to Grant Bilse from the Wisco Sports Show. The Big River Rally is coming up in June, so we spoke to Bobby Friss about his upcoming appearance at the event. You can listen to the entire interview here. The conclave to determine a new Pope starts tomorrow. Meanwhile the now deceased Pope had an outgoing wish that's about to become a reality. And check this donkey that's going viral because it's got two moms! In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who broke into a church and pissed in the holy water, a kid who accidentally ordered a bunch of lollipops from Amazon, another idiot who got too close to a crocodile while trying to take a selfie, a robot that tried to beat the shit out of some factory workers, and a kid who tried to drive his younger sister to get some McDonald's.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Final day of decent weather before we see some rain & snow move into the area tomorrow. In the news this morning, Adam Fravel is appealing his conviction, Forever 21 is the latest business to file for bankruptcy and close stores, Trader Joe's has another recall, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is speaking at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire tonight, and what happened with Tracy Morgan last night? Bryan Munar is a musical theatre actor who currently plays the role of Orpheus in the National Tour of Hadestown. We recorded this episode at The Pablo Center before their performance on Thursday, January 23rd. Bryan was on the "regular" path for success in America. He graduated from college, moved to San Fransisco, and got a desk job making the most money he ever made in his life. The only problem was that it didn't make him happy. After a couple of years working at his desk he told me his "soul felt rotten" and that he knew something had to change. He began taking acting classes and got involved with his local theatre. As his skill progressed so did the opportunities that came his way. Then one fateful day he got laid off from his job and the choice of where to take his life became clear. He got a job as a server at a sushi restaurant and worked his butt off pursuing his dream to become a full time actor. It took years of auditioning and being turned down before he was offered his current role of Orpheus on the National Tour of Hadestown, but he finally made his dreams come true. In this episode we discuss the challenges of tour life, developing relationships with cast members, being real on social media, peanut M&Ms, personal and professional development, being an independent music artist, making music videos with friends, and much more.
And we're back! After taking the last week off, Jean returns to the show and we heard all about her holiday celebrations. We also spoke with Colin Mochrie from "Whose Line Is It Anyway" about his upcoming live shows at the Pabst Theater & the Pablo Center. Lots of horrific news this morning, including updates on the terrorist attack in New Orleans, the Cybertruck explosion at the Trump hotel in Vegas, a shooting outside a nightclub in NY, and an update on the shooting in New Lisbon. In sports, we recapped yesterday's College Football Playoff bowl games, including the wild finish between Texas & Arizona State, and we took a look ahead at the rest of the upcoming bowl schedule. Also, the NBA came down hard on the Miami Heat & the Houston Rockets for their recent on-court dust-up. The new year has begun and if you're looking for some healthier eating options, maybe some delicious watercress? Apparently, it's the most nutrient-dense veggie out there. A new "Karen of the Day" is apparently a big fan of the movie "Titanic" and also really wants to drink some water. Cool story about a kid who had to have his spokes on his bike cut after his foot got stuck in them. And check out this ref who ate a few punches during a recent kickboxing match. Dude's got an IRON jaw! During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaScumbag who slammed a puppy to the floor, a #FloridaWoman who stole someone's credit cards & made a bunch of purchases, a possible Airbnb ban for Lily Phillips, and AI robots learning to do surgery by watching videos! “I did it all.” After two years at Cottey College, Kimera transferred and ultimately graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in journalism. After graduation, she returned to Cottey to serve as their one-person Public Relations shop in charge of news media, publications, and photography. “This is a job I think I can do.” After Cottey, Kimera found her way to the PR office at Emporia State University in Kansas. When asked to fill in as interim head of the Foundation, she accepted. With no experience whatsoever in fundraising, she had to learn the ins and outs of the industry on the fly. Kimera learned so much through the support and patience of her colleagues, and eventually came to love advancement work. “I didn't know anything about managing people.” Kimera reflects on some aspects of her early career that she wishes she had done differently. As a new manager, she feels that she couldn't fully appreciate the talent and skills of the folks on her team. But, those early lessons have made her wiser and more aware. “The power of collaboration is great.” Kimera learned two big things while working on the amazing Pablo Center project at UW-Eau Claire. The first is that true collaboration and partnerships are hard work and require extra time and effort. The second is that it is so important to keep the folks who will be impacted by the project at the forefront of every decision. “My goal is to always have joyful donors.” Kimera believes that the most humbling experience is when donors thank her for providing opportunities for them to fulfill their philanthropic dreams. Now, Kimera says that she has the best job in the world.“We have to reach people in new ways.” Kimera says that if we are using certain mediums to stay connected with family and friends, then we should use those same platforms to stay in contact with our alums. She suggests finding the people on your team who are well versed in technology and trusting them to help your organization communicate effectively. (Hot tip: send personalized ThankView campaigns around fun holidays – like this one that Kimera sent to all prospects in her portfolio right before recording this RAISE Podcast episode.)Want to work with Kimera?
