John 1:32-33 "And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost."
In this episode, Pastor Ed teaches about some crucial things that Christians should know. John 3:16-1716 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.2 Timothy 3:16-1716 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.Romans 3:2323 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,Romans 6:2323 For the wages of sin is death, but the [a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 5:88 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Romans 10:99 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.1 John 1:99 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.John 14:66 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.Psalm 119:1111 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.Philippians 4:1313 I can do all things through [a]Christ who strengthens me.John 16:3333 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [a]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”Psalm 37:1-81 Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.5 Commit[a] your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.

Whenever we sense the slightest rise of covetousness in our hearts, we must turn on it and fight it with all our might using the weapons of faith.
In this insightful video, we delve into the practical application of Philippians 4:13, which states, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Many people know this verse, but struggle to apply it in their daily lives. The key is to understand that Christ's strength comes through His Word. When faced with challenges or difficult situations, we can find answers and solutions by seeking guidance in the Bible. The speaker explains how King David, in the Psalms, often expressed his emotions and struggles, but ultimately found strength and hope by speaking God's promises. By focusing on the Word of God and allowing it to guide our thoughts and actions, we can overcome any obstacle. This video encourages viewers to approach Philippians 4:13 not as an abstract concept, but as a practical tool for finding strength and direction through the power of God's Word.
Just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”? Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. — Galatians 3:6-9 CALL OUT: Call out to Mike Gole from Broken Arrow, OK, who joined us for leadership training in Florida. Thanks for sharing our devotionals with your men daily. Paul presents an airtight case for salvation by faith alone by referring to the Jewish icon of faith, Father Abraham. In this section, he will explain to the Galatians how Abraham (like them) was saved only by faith, not by circumcision, and that the covenant made to Abraham was a blessing for all nations, including Gentiles. Today, this compels me to address the issue of proof-texting head-on. Proof-texting is a method of interpreting Scripture that selects specific lines of Scripture, or "proof texts," that appear to support a particular belief or doctrine without considering the broader context of the passage. Thus, in Paul's correction, we can see this is precisely what the Judaizers were doing. This approach led Jewish believers to a biased interpretation of Scripture, which ignored some pretty apparent truths about Abraham, faith, and the blessing to all nations, which included the Gentiles. It also resulted in false teaching, a wrong understanding of the gospel, and wounded and confused believers who questioned their salvation. But note that memorizing, quoting, and referencing individual Scriptures is fine. Just remember that in context, verses like Philippians 4:13, which reads, "I can do all things through him who strengthens me," might have nothing to do with my striving to achieve the next stage of my potential. Instead, it might communicate that I need to learn to be content with my present discontentment and discover God's strength through my suffering. If you don't believe me, take a glance at the two preceding verses: "Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need." — Philippians 4:11-12. Hopefully, you see how easy it is to misread the text by proof-texting and thus communicate a Gospel truth that is not a Gospel truth at all. So be cautious of what you believe and how you communicate it, as well as how you communicate what you believe. #FaithAlone #GalatiansInsights #ContextMatters #SalvationByFaith #AvoidProofTexting ASK THIS: How can we ensure that our interpretation of Scripture is rooted in its broader context rather than relying solely on proof-texting? In what ways can we apply the principle of seeking God's strength amidst our present circumstances, as highlighted in Philippians 4:11-13, to our daily lives? DO THIS: Read Scripture in context don't proof-text. PRAY THIS: Father, help me to approach Your Word with humility and discernment, seeking to understand its full context and applying its truths to my life with wisdom and clarity. Grant me the strength to trust in You alone for salvation and to rely on Your power in every circumstance I face. Amen. PLAY THIS: Your Name Is Holy.

Sermon by Rev. Paul LawlerPastor Paul continues his series on Context this week as we explore Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Is the true meaning of this verse simply about achieving personal goals, or is there a deeper and more meaningful message that God wants to teach through the life of the Apostle Paul? Paul wrote these words from a Roman prison cell, facing possible execution, and yet he expresses contentment and a reliance on Christ's strength. How can we experience a deeper revelation of Jesus for ourselves and others when we go through persecution and suffering because of Christian convictions? Paul's contentment in difficult circumstances clarifies that it is not complacency. This verse should be understood as assurance that believers can do whatever God calls them to do, rather than using it as a blanket affirmation for personal desires. The power of Christ within believers surpasses any challenges they may face.
The meaning of Philippians 4:13 is often the opposite of what many people are teaching us that it means. It's not about being able to fix any problem. In fact, it's about being content when nothing is right, even if it's never fixed. Yet, the verse is still awesome. Here's what you need to know. Episode 86 -- Jennifer Rothschild is sharing her experience of physical blindness and spiritual eyesight with us today. We go deep in the trenches of self-reliance, and she says, "I used to rely on my own strength, and I thought it was grace." She tells us that without Christ's power in us, we can't experience true success. Our strength can be our greatest liability. Jennifer says that blindness has exposed her true weakness: her dogged self-reliance! Learning that our greater weakness is self-dependence teaches us to boast in our weakness because that is where the power of Christ can dwell. So, we talk about the imperative of surrender to a God who knows us exactly as He created us to be. How do we make surrender our number one goal? This is one of the themes of "Take Courage: a study of Haggai" the latest book that Jennifer wrote--because she needed it for herself, and hopes to share it with others who seek to rebuild against discouragement after 2020 and amidst 2021. Jennifer reminds us through Haggai that you are never too young, or too old, for God to call and qualify and equip you for the work and identity He has for you. Jennifer says, "true success is obedience." How do you not get weary of well-doing? Haggai teaches us that obedience and faithfulness ARE success. It is not about size and glitter, but about surrendering our 100% to God. Jennifer shares with vulnerability how taking courage is an instruction amidst weakness and disappointment, not something for the strong. It is about receiving courage, not mustering it up out of our own strength. So, it starts with emptying yourself of self-reliance, stop trying to grip control, taking "be strong" off your to-do list, and tell God that you can't -- but that HE CAN! Case in point, Stephanie started this interview with a few butterflies in her stomach and a slight case of fan-girling, but Jennifer made her feel at ease immediately by her kindness and approachability. This was a perfect practical example of how to celebrate success as God defines it--not as we do. And, did you wonder what Jennifer's favorite spice is? Take a listen to find out! It's full of spiritual depth, too!! Stephanie apologizes for the lower quality of her own voice at occasions on this episode... the recording had technical difficulties, but the good news is that Jennifer's voice is perfectly recorded! Then you know how the Jewish people felt when they returned to their wrecked land after exile and began rebuilding the temple. They were distracted, discouraged, and ready to throw in the towel. But the prophet Haggai reminded them they could find courage in the God who had never left them. Sometimes the landscapes of our lives feel wrecked, with our hope and purpose in shambles. We too get distracted and discouraged. However, God’s presence and promises give us courage to press on and trust Him with our story. In this 7-session study on the Book of Haggai, learn to walk confidently in your calling, stay motivated despite opposition, and courageously invest your life in God’s purposes, trusting Him for results you may never see in this lifetime. ------ GET TO KNOW JENNIFER ------ At the young age of fifteen, Jennifer was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative eye disease that would eventually steal her sight. It was more than a turning point for the Miami, FL, native. Her dreams of becoming a commercial artist and cartoonist faded. Jesus was God in bodily form. He was sinless but tempted. Because He was sinless, He could go to the cross for us. A lot of horrible things happened on the cross, but the worst was when He was separated from the Father. In hell there is no more possibility of a fellowship with almighty God. The presence of God is there in hell, but no one there can have fellowship with Him. As we go from 2020 to 2021, we are going to be running a race. In order to do this, we need to unwind. We have a crown of righteousness that we will cast at His feet. God will give us the ability we need to do what He needs us to do. The purpose of our race, is that this world needs Him! Satan will do everything in his power to stifle us. He will give us things that are seemingly good and use that to discourage us.

0024 - In this episode I discuss verses from the Bible that are commonly taken out of context. I start with Jeremiah 29:11 and demonstrate that this verse is not a promise to you. I discuss how the context of the whole chapter shows us who the verse is intended for and how we should properly interpret Scripture. I discuss how people have turned the Bible into a series of pithy sayings that we can rip out of context and how that is destroying people's faith and the Bible. I use a book by Eric J. Bargerhuff called "The Most Misused Verses in the Bible" as a jumping off point for many of the verses I discuss. Listen to why verses like Philippians 4:13, Matthew 7:1, Matthew 18:20, 2 Chronicles 7:14 and others don't mean what many people think they mean. I hope this will be an edifying podcast and help you think better about the truth claims of Scripture.
