We are talking openly about fighting the lies that depression and anxiety tell you day in and day out. This is a mental health episode today, and I always say the same thing: It's sometimes really helpful to hear this, but if you're in a certain place, it might not be, so come back later if that's what's best for you. Britt Davis is a mom of four and lives on a farm in Greenwood, VA. Britt and I talk about her best friend's passing, our experiences with perinatal and PPD, the difficult side of motherhood, and the importance of reaching out to others. We also talk about Britt's art, spreading positivity into the world, and some helpful resources for those who find themselves in the pit. Tune in this episode to hear more!  Let's dive in. This episode hit home as I am a postpartum depression survivor. Today’s episode with Dr. Kristen Lipari is SO important for pregnant & postpartum moms. Dr. Lipari is trained in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders from Postpartum Support International. She specializes in working with individuals and couples to address their changing roles and corresponding challenges in the perinatal period (before, during, and after pregnancy).  She goes into detail about what to look for in regards to PPD and PPA and how that differs from baby blues. We talk about how to advocate for yourself in your 6 week visit and what to say to your partner when you’re feeling off. Beyond that Kristen shares a checklist that can work off of to set yourself up for postpartum in the best way possible. So many of us expect PPD/PPA to be at its most extreme when it can arrive and showcase itself on a spectrum, I love the way she breaks it all down. Some of my favorite moments of the episode are when she speaks on how to reframe and relabel negative self-talk and ways to practice realistic self-care. Make sure to listen in for all the amazing resources she provides as well. I am just so overjoyed to have her on the show and be able to provide you with her wealth of knowledge.
