It prompted him to write the book ‘Billy No-Mates', looking at why he didn't have any close male friends any more, and asking if men, in general, have a friendship problem. In a special discussion in front of a live audience at the Cheltenham Science Festival in England, Claudia Hammond speaks to Max about his journey. They're also joined by Robin Dunbar, a Professor of Evolutionary Psychology at Oxford University who's spent decades researching friendships in humans and other primates, and Radha Modgil, a practicing GP and wellbeing expert whose book ‘Know Your Own Power' looks at what advice there is for people facing difficulties as they go through life. The panel look at what psychology can teach us about friendships between men, the difference these relationships can make to our mental health, and the best way of both maintaining the friendships we have and finding ways to make new friends. It's Children's Mental Health Week and to mark it, Dr. Radha Modgil will be talking to three wonderful guests all about children, young people and social prescribing. Our first guest this week is Brad Gudger. He is the founder and Director of Alike, a game-changing charity created to combat loneliness and isolation caused by cancer. Alongside his work with Alike, Brad is an NHS Youth Expert Advisor and a member of the NHS Children and Young People's Transformation Board. Brad is also Vice-chair of NASP.  Radha is also joined by Dawn Mitchell, who works at StreetGames. StreetGames harnesses the power of sport to create positive change in the lives of young people from underserved communities across the UK. StreetGames' work helps to make young people and their communities healthier, safer and more successful.  Dawn has been working with StreetGames for over 10 years, most recently on the national pilot of social prescribing for children and young people which has highlighted the potential for social prescribing to positively impact on all aspects of a young person's health and wellbeing.  Thirdly, we are delighted to invite Rachael, a YoungMinds Activist to talk with Radha about her experiences. This week, Dr. Radha Modgil will be discussing the healing power of heritage with three special guests. Suzannah Lipscomb has endured a varied career. She is a Emeritus Professor at the University of Roehampton and she is a well-known as a broadcast historian too. She has written and presented a plethora of documentaries and series on channel 5, Netflix and the BBC and an award-winning podcast . Furthermore Suzannah is the author of five books, focusing on the sixteenth century. With Dr. Radha, she discusses how heritage can help maintain your mental health. Our second guest, Desi Gradinarova, is the Senior Policy Adviser (Wellbeing & Inclusion) at Historic England and Historic Environment lead at NASP. Desi has a PhD in Medieval British History, has worked in education in secondary and further education, in media in Bulgaria, but now works in the Historic England Wellbeing team. NASP and Historic England work collaboratively to advance the concept and implementation of social prescribing on a national and local level. Desi is passionate about the ability of heritage to keep individuals and communities connected and empowered but recognises that people and organisations need support to help them unleash the benefit. Thirdly, Katrina Gargett will join Dr. Radha. Katrina is the Community Engagement Office at the York Archaeological Trust and runs the Archaeology on Prescription project. The aim of this project is to improve wellbeing of the city of York's residents through archaeology, help them foster new social connections, and build confidence through learning new skills. She will be discussing with Radha more about this amazing project.

This week I talk to Radha about her journey including the importance of family, studying at Cambridge and Imperial, working as a hospital doctor, a GP, teaching medical students AND everything covered below. She has also reported on ITV's This Morning, BBC Breakfast, ITV Tonight, Channel 5 News and ITN News. Working across all platforms Dr Radha contributes to online projects including BBC Bitesize, BBC Teach, BBC Own It, BBC Advice Pages and BBC Learning. She has also been broadcast on BBC Radio1's daytime show, BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Asian Network, LBC and Radio 1's Newsbeat. Currently writing for Top of the Pops magazine, Radha has been a columnist for the i newspaper, Woman's Own & MSN Lifestyle. She has written for Female First and Bliss magazine. She has also contributed to multiple books supporting young people & parents. She has a particular interest in young people's health & supporting parents, and has worked on campaigns with BBC Children in Need, Public Health England, MIND, British Heart Foundation, JDRF, The Mix  and the NHS Youth Forum.
