Loose Ends is in Hebden Bridge this week, a town made famous by the BBC drama Happy Valley, but you might also recognise the place and its glorious scenery from Last Tango in Halifax, Gentleman Jack or The Gallow's Pole. Clive will talk to local resident and bestselling novelist Joanne Harris, maybe best known for Chocolat which was adapted into an Oscar nominated film of the same name. Her latest book The Moonlight Garden is a fantasy set in a "long ago and far away" version of London and fits right into the wildly popular "romantasy" genre - a good fit for a town renowned for its quirky ways and alternative lifestyles. Also in the show, the acclaimed comedian and actor Richard Blackwood, best known for roles in Hollyoaks and EastEnders as well as on stage, is out on the road and passing through town on a stand up tour promising heavyweight laughs and no messing. TV presenter, GP and host of Europe's most popular wellness podcast Dr Ranjan Chatterjee will be easing us all into the New Year, just about the time when we all begin to fall off the New Year resolutions wagon and we'll be hearing about what happened to his own long held ambition to be Jon Bon Jovi. And award wining stand-up comedian and Hebden resident Nina Gilligan will explain why her new show is called Goldfish. Music from former I am Kloot frontman John Bramwell and band The Full Harmonic Convergence and also from all female Indie-folk band The Deep Blue. Presented by Clive Anderson Produced by Olive Clancy

Welcome back to Broken Records, the podcast that searches for the worst record ever made in the history of music. This week Steve and Remfry travel back to Britain in that wondrous period of the late 90's going into the early 2000's as they look at You'Ll Love To Hate This, the long forgotten debut, and so far only, full length album from comedian, actor, presenter and… rapper… sort of… Richard Blackwood, released on the 11th of September 2000. Who remembers Richard Blackwood… yeah?... a few… who remembers him for something other than not knowing how to grate lemon zest…? Okay, not so many of you. How about anything other than his recent appearances in big name UK soap operas Hollyoaks and Eastenders? Oooh, hardly anyone. Blackwood was, if you can believe it, a pretty big star in the UK from about 1998 to 2001, presenting a host of big name shows like Top of the Pops and MTV Select, before being given his own vehicle, The Richard Blackwood Show, in 1999. His star dropped pretty dramatically after the release of this album though, maybe it was too much of RB too soon, maybe we never really needed a UK version of Will Smith, or maybe it was just the staggeringly bad execution of this album, full of terrible rapping, cheap pop instrumentation and cheesy R&B fronting. Either way, this record is no fun. Less fun than having 18 litres of coffee shot up your arse? Well, we wouldn't know about that… but we know a man who would! WE LOVE YOU RB, WE WATCH YOU EVERY NIGHT ON TV!!!

André is renowned for thinking outside of the box and producing magical moments using nothing but the spoken word. His sharp intellect, assertive approach and ‘close to the edge' style of delivery makes him a formidable adversary in any debate. Easy is the maverick of the bunch having honed his comedy alongside the likes of Richard Blackwood, John Simmit, Junior Simpson, Aymer & Powell, Geoff Schumann, Leo Chester etc. Easy took a sabbatical to do other things, but was drawn back to being a funster while doing shows at the Edinburgh Festival. He can at times be raw, refined, and positively delightful in parts. We're stretching things a bit this week to include filmed theatre: our guest is director Anastasia Osei-Kuffour whose latest production is Typical at the Soho Theatre (available to stream online). The play stars Richard Blackwood as Christopher Alder, a Black man who died in police custody in 1998.  The play, a monologue that's halfway between poetry and rap recounting Christopher's last day and the acts of racism he experiences leading up to his death, highlights issues around racial stereotypes and institutional racism.  We discuss those with Ana as well as the implications of filming theatre and her work with Blackwood.  We flag the last call for short film submissions for the Emerging Filmmakers' Night's Spring edition, the current Media Democracy Festival - Mydy is proud to be a partner of the Independent Media Association - and ITV's crime drama Marcella! Artists Gilbert & George open a new exhibition at the White Cube next week. The pair first met in 1967 whilst studying sculpture at Central St Martin’s art college. They’ve lived and worked together in East London for fifty years. The show - New Normal Pictures - consists of twenty-six new pictures which feature the pair in gritty London landscapes including bin bags, bus shelters and graffiti. It was first due to exhibit in April last year. They join John Wilson to discuss how they’ve been more industrious than ever in lockdown and how they hope their fans will experience their art online. First staged in 2019, Typical is a play based on the true-life story of the last night of Christopher Alder, a 37-year-old Black father of two, computer trainee and former paratrooper. That night out in Hull in 1998 would end with his death in police custody. Playwright Ryan Calais Cameron joins Front Row to talk about the Soho Theatre streaming of his play, a one man show performed by Richard Blackwood and co-produced by Nouveau Riche. In today’s #FrontRowGetCreative challenge Painter Jadé Fadojutimi gives us her advice on how to start turning an idea into a piece of art. It can be a new idea, or one you’ve had for a while, the important thing is to get yourself into a space where you can start to make something creative. Jadé invites us into her studio at 1:30 in the morning and shows us how she starts a painting. And we reflect on the life of renowned art detective Charley Hill whose investigative work led to the recovery of one of the world's most iconic paintings Edvard Munch's The Scream, stolen in Oslo in 1984. UK R&B Singer Junior Giscombe Interview

Norman Washington "Junior" Giscombe (born 6 June 1957) is an English singer-songwriter (frequently known simply by the mononym, Junior) who was one of the first British R&B artists to be successful in the United States. He is best known for his 1982 hit single, "Mama Used to Say". CAREERGiscombe was born in Wandsworth, London, and was a backing vocalist with Linx between 1980 and 1982. When turning towards a solo career, he was first billed simply as Junior and he scored a #7 hit in the UK Singles Chart in 1982, with "Mama Used to Say". His follow-up single, "Too Late" also made the Top 20 in the UK. "Mama Used to Say" was also a Top 40 Pop hit and Top 5 R&B in the United States, earning him a "Best Newcomer" award from Billboard magazine. Sometime (most likely) around 1984 and 1985, Junior Giscombe recorded (and very possibly co-wrote) an unknown number of songs with Phil Lynott, the former leader, vocalist and bass player of hard rock band Thin Lizzy. Lynott died in January 1986 and the songs were never officially released. Most remain as demos, but one of the songs, "Lady Loves to Dance", was mastered and nearly released before being pulled by the record company. Some of the songs are available on YouTube, including "What's the Matter Baby" (Giscombe provides backing vocals) and "Time (and Again)" (Giscombe shares vocals with Lynott). After a period outside the charts, he made a brief return to the Top 10 in 1987 when he sang a duet with Kim Wilde on "Another Step (Closer to You)". He also became involved with the formation of Red Wedge in 1986 with Billy Bragg, Jimmy Somerville and Paul Weller, and had been a part of The Council Collective with The Style Council, Jimmy Ruffin and others for the 1984 fundraising single, "Soul Deep" and in 1992 appeared on stage at the 1992 Labour rally in SheffieldSheffield_Rally singing Curtis Mayfield's[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Mayfield ([1])] 'Move on Up'. Later Giscombe became better known as a songwriter for various artists, including Sheena Easton. He is currently a DJ with internet radio station Solarradio.com, although he is not listed on their website. Giscombe is the uncle of British comedian Richard Blackwood, who sampled "Mama Used to Say" on his single "Mama – Who Da Man" in June 2000. www.juniorgiscombe.co.uk www.joekelleyradio.com Originally aired February 23rd, 2006

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering. This week my guest is none other than super star chef, restauranteur and co-host of Sunday Brunch amongst loads of other brilliant stuff - it’s the excellent Simon Rimmer. Simon is delightfully open about times where he’s overdone it on the workload, about the media-luvvie bubble it’s too easy to slip into and about the time he ate some whale. His stories about guests on Sunday Brunch are hilarious and his honesty about his journey and imperfections is disarmingly lovely. Honourable MentionsHere’s a link to Simon’s inaugural, incidentally vegetarian restaurant ‘Greens’ and here’s a link to ALL THE BOOKS he’s written like a legend. Most importantly here is Richard Blackwood on Sunday Brunch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpH1goouCLQIf you’re from overseas and hadn’t heard of the crisps/ chips we were talking about click on the name for links to salt & vinegar WALKERS or in my opinion, the superior DISCOS. And here are the original WOTSITS but it’s my view that these M&S one’s are even cheesier. The drink of Simon’s dreams is this swanky AF looking Billecart-Salmon Rose and the less swanky aperitif he chose is this particular brand of peanut butter from Monsieur ‘Skippy’ OH, AndIf you have got a any spare dosh to give a month I’m on this great site called Patreon where I exchange for rewards including exclusive content for your hard earned cash which means I can keep doing and improving the podcast.
