Chris Bostock; JoBoxers, Style Council and Dave Stewart; The life of a Bass Guitar PlayerChris Bostock is an English musician, songwriter, and music producer, best known as the bassist for the 1980s new wave band JoBoxers. Born in Bristol in 1962, Bostock began his musical journey with classical piano at age six before transitioning to guitar and bass. He was a founding member of The Stingrays and later joined The X-Certs, both integral to Bristol's vibrant punk and new wave scenes in the late 1970s.In 1980, Bostock became part of the second incarnation of Subway Sect, managed by Bernard Rhodes (The Clash manager). This collaboration led to the formation of JoBoxers, whose blend of funk, soul, and ska produced hits like "Boxerbeat" and "Just Got Lucky," the latter reaching No. 7 on the UK charts and No. 31 in the US. Bostock co-wrote several of the band's tracks, contributing significantly to their distinctive sound.Beyond JoBoxers, Bostock's career includes work with The Style Council, Spear of Destiny, and forming The Spiritual Cowboys with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame. His versatile musicianship and collaborative spirit have made him a respected figure in the music industry.Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts on Madonna's influence in thecomments below!✅ Important Links:

You know you're dealing with a slightly classier type of pop star movie when the director has a knighthood, and Sir Steve McQueen's Blitz is no exception. Despite getting no love at this year's Oscars - it's no Emilia Perez, eh, the Academy? - it's still an ambitious, multi-stranded tale of one boy's adventure through the underworld of World War II-era Britain. It tackles racial prejudice, community organising, McQueen's usual theme of the communal role of music and... wait, is that Paul Weller?Maybe it was inevitable that the former frontman of the Style Council and the Jam would end up in a film where people do, indeed, end up down in the tube station at midnight. But there's more to it than that, as Weller superfan Mick points out. Rejoining the show after previously tackling the Style Council movie Jerusalem, he talks to Graham about the many near-misses of Weller's screen career, as well as the many palpable hits of McQueen's. And, since this podcast was recorded late last year we might as well say it here: RIP Rick Buckler. If you want to help us make money without robbing the victims of the Luftwaffe, you can donate to our Patreon where you'll soon find the latest exclusive episode of this very show - one for fans of The Jesus Lizard, we'll say - plus exclusive regular articles on classic Asian genre cinema, The X-Files, Red Dwarf, The Twilight Zone and much more. Vision Quest was released in theaters February 15, 1985. Based on a book that was hot in the young adult space, it featured a young Matthew Modine as Loudon Swain - a high school wrestler from Spokane, Washington who is looking to accomplish something big in his life. While the movie had limited appeal beyond teenagers (it only grossed $13 million), cable TV and video rental stores gave the movie continued life among teenagers for many years. A big reason it continued to draw 80s teens and carry such strong nostalgia today is the soundtrack. Put together by John Kalodner for Geffen Records, it featured some of the hottest pop and rock artists of the day and sold over 1 million copies in the US. Madonna, who was hot off her Like A Virgin Tour, contributes two songs - the unreleased as a single in the US Gambler and mega hit Crazy For You - and she had a cameo in the film singing them both. Journey offered Only The Young from the Frontiers sessions and the video, like Crazy For You, featured scenes from the film, helping the singles sell big numbers. Those two songs along with Red Rider's Lunatic Fringe set the tone for the film and make the songs and movie so intertwined. Some songs from bands like The Style Council, Don Henley and Dio might be overlooked as background music to certain scenes, songs like Change by John Waite (written by the legend Holly Knight) and Lunatic Fringe really keep you energized and engaged in Loudon's quest to drop 22 pounds and beat the unbeatable Shute on the wrestling mat. You have the tender Crazy For You for the romantic scenes, Journey for the training scenes and lots of rock and pop royalty. Even great songs by Berlin, Quarterflash and REO Speedwagon were left off the soundtrack but appear in the movie, including some solid work by Tangerine Dream. Maybe we like this film because as two former teenage boys, we could relate to what this guy was going through. But we continue to like the soundtrack because it had killer songs (with a couple of clunkers) that stand the test of time and play a huge role in the film. Playliste: Intro (Til julebal i Nisseland) Band Aid – Do they know it's Christmas (12” Mix) Duran Duran – I don't want your love (Big Mix) Wham! – Wham Rap! (Enjoy what you do?) (Special U.S. Remix) Heaven 17 – Let me go (12” Extended Version) Bananarama – The wild life (Extended Version) Propaganda – Das testament des Dr Mabuse (12” Edit For Germany) The Style Council – Long hot summer (Extended Mix) Paul Young – Love of the common people (Extended Version) Ultravox – All stood still (12” Mix) Phil Collins – Don't lose my number (Extended Mix) The Human League – Don't you want me (Special Extended Dance Mix) New Order – Bizarre love triangle (Steven Hague 12” Remix) Thompson Twins – Doctor! Doctor! (Extended Version) The Flirts – Passion (Full Lenth Album Version) Pet Shop Boys – Always on my mind (Extended Dance Version) Bronski Beat – Why? (12” Version) Vivien Vee – Heartbeat (One Two Three Mix) Jason Donovan – Too many broken hearts (Extended version)
Do they know it's christmas ?

On the 52nd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest Fozzy frontman and current AEW FTW Champion, Chris Jericho, review the 1985 soundtrack for the movie, "Vision Quest." Vision Quest is the story of high school senior wrestler who wants to lose weight and get into a lower weight class just to battle a seemingly impossible foe. The movie which starred Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino was not a box office success, but has since become an 80's cult hit. Vision Quest is the rare movie which has been helped by it movie soundtrack. The soundtrack is filled with many successful 80's artist, including two songs from Madonna who was skyrocketing into superstardom at the time. Most of the artists, with the exception of Madonna and The Style Council, were hard rock acts, like Foreignor, Dio, Sammy Hagar and Journey. Other artist involved were Don Henley, Red Rider and John Waite. The album went platinum in the United States and made it to #30 on the US Billboard 200. Tracks like Only The Young, Hot Blooded, Hungry For Heaven and Lunatic Fringe as still found on classic rock stations this day. But it was the two songs including, Crazy For You, by Madonna that made this soundtrack become of the best and most popular of the 1980's. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 50 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Tom's pick. So tune in to see if Jericho could beat Shute in a title match and who is the cooze doctor in outer space? Our guest today is one of the finest British soul singers of her generation. Whether leading the line or offering support from the background Dee C Lee has made an incredible contribution to the UKs music scene. She has created underground bangers and graced to the top ten both as a solo artist and as part of various collaborative projects. Having sung with the likes of Wham! The Style Council and as part of Guru's seminal Jazz Hip-Hop project Jazzamatazz. She has had and incredible career but now she is back front and centre with a new release on Acid Jazz records called 'Don't forget about love'. Before we talk to Dee we add a little seasoning to the pod as Deb and Eamon sprinkle Sault into the chat. Eamon tries and fails to get angry while Sault no doubt put out yet another album. Also featured this week is a discussion with writer and director Aaron Trinder whose latest film 'Free Party: A folk history' takes Eamon back to the glory days of rave and highlights the unsung history of the role that the traveller movement played in popularising the culture. We look at how the government tried to surpress the movement through blatant acts of violence and then used the rave scene as an excuse to pass draconian laws that have outlawed the traveller lifestyle and the right to listen to the music of your choice in the open air.Top one, nice one, sorted. Episode 177: Simon Halfon - Graphic designer and Film Producer on The Style Council, Paul Weller Solo & The JamOn this episode of The Paul Weller Fan Podcast, we hear from graphic designer and film producer, Simon Halfon to discuss his incredible porfolio of work with The Jam, The Style Council and Paul Weller solo...We find out about his love of The Jam - and how he first met Paul Weller in 1979 following a gig in Bridlington when he and his mates stayed up with the band drinking and putting the world to rights until the early hours. On this podcast chat, we hear how he fell into art design by accident via the creation of a fanzine (that provided another early connection to The Jam) to a job in the postroom at Stiff Records, then assisting Neville Brody at The Face magazine. The first sleeve Simon designed was for Department S, whose singer Vaughn Toulouse became part of a gang of friends that included journalist Paolo Hewitt, DJ Gary Crowley and Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama. His first commission as a freelancer in 1982, was by Paul Weller through the design on the sleeve for a book that he was publishing about the Small Faces. When Paul formed The Style Council with Mick Talbot in 1983, it was Simon that he turned to for the record sleeve designs starting with Speak Like a Child, right the way through to the Modernism album cover that was completed for it's ultimate release in the 90s.We also chat about Simon's creations with Paul Weller for singles and albums for 20 years of the solo career - an incredible collective of work from that first single sleeve from Into Tomorrow in 1991 and those wonderful matchday programmes and merch designs, right through to 2010's Fast Car/Slow Traffic...Simon also designed every album sleeve with Paul from that debut solo album through to Wake Up The Nation in 2010...You'll hear about their shared love of The Beatles (which led to Simon designing the cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Milk and Honey album in 1984) and Simon's work with other long standing clients including the late George Michael and Oasis. In the mid noughties Simon had started to take an interest in the film industry, inspired by friendships forged during his time in LA. He produced his first feature film in 2008, the Kenneth Branagh directed Sleuth, which was to become the last screenplay by Harold Pinter and starred Michael Caine & Jude Law. But it wasn't until 2016 that Simon really embraced the film world, when the Gallagher brothers approached him to tell the story of Oasis. As lead producer, he brought together the team to create the award winning feature ‘Supersonic', a documentary of huge commercial and critical success. We also chat about the incredible Wham documentary for Netflix that he produced - which topped the charts in the summer of 2023...
