For our 905th RA Podcast, we're proud to welcome Goldie, one of the most famous, talented and important electronic music artists of all time. Starting out as a graffiti artist, he eventually made music under the name Rufige Kru, helping push the then-nascent genre of jungle forward with tracks like "Krisp Biscuit (Power)" and "Terminator." The latter was released under the name Metalheads, which would later become the name of his label (with a z instead of an s). Metalheadz—which he cofounded with DJ Storm and the late Kemistry—celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and remains the defining outlet of drum & bass, the genre that grew out of jungle that Goldie helped invent with records like 1995's massive crossover album Timeless (alongside countless other classics). He's a producer, DJ, actor and all-around celebrity, a huge personality in UK electronic music. Goldie is also RA's guest curator this month, and his tenure starts with this mix. We'll have more to come starting this week—check our editor's letter later today for more information—but for now, here's a survey of drum & bass past and present from a man who helped invent the genre. Next up from us at Back to the Future HQ is the latest in our ICON series of mixes. Previously we have dedicated full mixes to both the Rufige Kru and Calibre. These mixes are our tribute to artists that have demonstrated consistent quality and longevity in production. In our view there are only a few of these working in our scene. ... and this time we turn our attentions to the force that is Break. Now, regular listeners will know that we consider ourselves aficionados of this artist… you could call us Breakologists or more likely Breakaholics, so this has been a true labour of love. Good Evenin', all Continuing our series of ‘all artist' mixes, we give you Back To The Future #52 - Calibre, The Remixes. This is the ICON Series. Following the success of our Ivy Lab and Rufige Kru mixes we decided to look at another one of our inspirations. A foundation artist with tracks in most people's record collections, respected and admired around the world. Over the years we have listened to and enjoyed a fair few 'all Calibre' mixes from other DJs, such has been his impact on the scene. Throughout his colossal career, he has remixed a vast and varied array of artists and labels, always putting his unique, soulful and rolling Signature (!) on them. For this mix we've decided to focus on these remixes... Researching his discography, we found that we had collected a huge amount of his music over the years.
