Special guest interviewee this month is Craig Smith, joining Pete to tell all about his pre 1980s Star Wars collecting. Elsewhere the lads indulge in a little fantasy theme park fun, tell all about their latest finds with even Richard picking something up this month, and go international as Face-Off heads to Spain, Canada, Mexico and, err, Indonesia. Andy Preston takes the reigns as quizmaster, and the team picks the best new acquisitions from around the world, with a DT Ben, an prototype poster, a Vader / Chewie mix-up, soapy Star Wars and Italian stationery. In Rebel Briefings the boys look back at Live, selling See Threepio, modelling on Endor, Maul on telly, Japanese rocket robots, Vic Reeves paintwork, and Youngie Oldie Yoda. Licensee this month is Kenner's pre-school range, from Star Tots to talking telephones, and all things Ewok - Fire Cart, Family Hut, Woodland Wagon and more. After some vegetable talk and Vic Reeves club singer impressions we get around to discussing The Defiant Ones from 1958, a film about two chained together convicts, one black and one white, as they try to elude authorities that we are weirdly much more familiar with the numerous parodies of. He married a lot.If that's all you know about the most famous of all our Kings, then listen on as Charlie Higson uncovers Henry's life in the first part of a story that is so epic, it requires.....well......two parts!Such is Henry's magnitude, one guest is not enough either. In this episode we have two, the formidable husband and wife team of John Guy & Julia Fox, authors of many books on this Monarch including Hunting The Falcon, Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and the Marriage that Shook Europe. Willy Willy Harry Stee, Harry Dick John Harry Three, One Two Three Neds, Richard Two, Henry's Four Five Six.........The story of Henry VI is a tangled one, intertwined with Edward IV and, not something to be rushed. So over the next two episodes, Charlie Higson unpicks the story of a man who became king, then was deposed only to become king again, only to be deposed.....again!It's a fascinating story which takes in a couple of wars, one civil and one against the French and even Joan of Arc makes an appearance.Helping Charlie make sense of all this is the excellent Helen Castor, author of Joan Of Arc and Blood & Roses and speaking of books, remember that you can still buy the book of the podcast, Willie Willie Harry Stee, a hardback volume lovingly created by Charlie, with sumptuous illustrations by his old pal Vic Reeves....or Jim Moir to be more precise.Available now wherever books are sold. Willy Willy Harry Stee, Harry Dick John Harry Three. One Two Three Neds, Richard Two........ Charlie Higson's canter through the Monarchy takes us to Richard The 2nd.You'd think by now that they'd have got the hang of this whole King thing. What to do. What not to do. Well, they hadn't and Richard II is a good example of the 'What Not To Do' category.Charlie's proper historian this episode sees the return of Helen Castor, author of 'She-Wolves: The Women Who Ruled England Before Elizabeth' and 'The Eagle & The Heart, The Tragedy of Richard II and Henry IV.And speaking of books, don't forget that Charlie's book of this podcast, Willie Willie Harry Stee is out now, with illustrations by Jim Moir, or Vic Reeves as you may know him. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Willie-Harry-Stee-brand-new-hilarious/dp/0008741050 Hosted on Acast. Willy Willy Harry Stee, Harry, Dick, John, Harry Three, One Two Three Neds.........Well in this episode Charlie Higson concerns himself with Ned No.1..Edward The 1st, Edward Longshanks or The Hammer Of The Scots, although whilst he did a lot of hammering, the nails weren't really driven home very well.Charlie's 'Proper Historian' for this episode is the excellent Marc Morris, author of A Great & Terrible King: Edward I and the Forging of Britain and speaking of books, remember that you can still buy the book of the podcast, Willie Willie Harry Stee, a hardback volume lovingly created by Charlie, with sumptuous illustrations by his old pal Vic Reeves....or Jim Moir to be more precise. Today, we have two guests. Nicholas Sercombe is a veteran producer who's worked with talents as varied as Bob Monkhouse and Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer. And Raj Bisram is a familiar face on UK screens as an antiques expert on shows such as 'Bargain Hunt' and 'Antiques Roadshow'. Together, they've joined forces with the German comedian Henning Wehn to pitch their new format, 'Curiosity'. Justin and David discuss whether it's wise to attach talent to format proposals, and consider how interactivity works - or possibly doesn't - alongside TV shows.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/tv-show-podcast. Bob Mortimer is an English comedian, TV presenter, fisherman, author, podcaster, pork pie detective and 100% certified national treasure. He's with us to chat about his new book, The Long Shoe, his third work of fiction following the successes of The Hotel Avocado and The Satsuma Complex. Bob has sold over 2 million books (and counting), crowning another significant chapter in his legendary career. Bob first appeared on our screens in the early 90s in Vic Reeves' Big Night Out. His working relationship with Vic has continued for decades and the pair are regarded among the funniest acts in British comedy. Bob is also known for his part in another double act, with Paul Whitehouse in Gone Fishing, a programme which documents their time together on the shores of rivers, streams, seas and lakes as part of Bob's recovery from open heart surgery. Upon entering the Dish kitchen, Bob quickly spots the pork pie starter and crisp bowl, which is followed by Angela fulfilling his nostalgic request and serving kedgeree-style monkfish rice alongside a fresh and cold IPA. Waitrose's wine experts pair this meal with a glass of Paul Mas Réserve Languedoc Blanc. From stories about accidental house fires to avoiding dinner parties and the perfect pasta name for a cat, we learn an incredible amount in Bob's company. We also find time to put his love of eggs to the test in an action packed end of show finale. And remember: eat pie as often as you can! WARREN CUMMINGS and I, perhaps unwisely, try to analyse some TV comedy.First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on November 16th 2025.This week, in a show we recorded earlier in the autumn just as VISION ON SOUND returned from its summer hiatus, I welcome back WARREN CUMMINGS once again, and we took the opportunity to delve deep into an area that is always a little bit outside my personal comfort zone, as we tackle the tricky little matter of television comedy in as analytical a way as we are capable of, as we consider whether or not some of the recognised classics from the archives are as enjoyable as we like to believe they are. This was prompted by me picking up a bit of MONTY PYTHON on DVD and finding some of it to be “difficult” to watch, and WARREN throws the somewhat problematical nature of some of SPIKE MILLIGAN's television work into the mix, before we move into a broader consideration of the comedy of a different time.Over the course of this hour we'll also touch upon some radio comedy, some TV sitcoms, and the work of metaphorical comedy giants such as PETER COOK and DUDLEY MOORE, as well as talking rather fondly about shows like ALEXEI SAYLE's STUFF, VIC REEVES' BIG NIGHT OUT, THE YOUNG ONES and the more recent work of DIANE MORGAN whose PHILOMENA CUNK is one of the more successful recent comedy creations.PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

This week a bit of a diversion. MJ Price of Quite A Boast podcast - all things Reeves & Mortimer - joins Tyler to talk about his love of the Goons and considers what sort of influence or impact (or otherwise) they may have had on future comedians, specifically Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer. Later the chat turns more generally towards R&M and their body of work, including Vic Reeves Big Night Out, Smell of Reeves & Mortimer, Bang Bang It's Reeves & Mortimer, Shooting Stars and Catterick (with dishonourable mentions to Randall & Hopkirk Deceased and that Ulrika special). They muse on how different generations of comics and comedians tended to flit into and out of each others' orbits and turn up in each others' shows and this is a tradition which applied equally to the Goons as it did to Reeves & Mortimer. It's a fun chat about a pair of comedy legends who crop up all too infrequently on Goon Pod but whose humour and inventiveness chimes with that of Milligan (although he would never have acknowledged that at the time!)You can find Quite A Boast here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL11Ba_QI4Z2_rczxZtu83mE7L4ZW6npL_&si=66WgrMaYtKOT0jEl
This month head back to Colin & Ian's teenage years and Tracey's not quite as teenage years to discuss the emergence of post rock, jangly indie rock, noisy glitchy electronica, stompy nu-metal & Vic Reeves with a cold. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - A, Aphex Twin, The Beta Band, Bjork, David Bowie, Deftones, Depeche Mode, Tanya Donelly, Mark Eitzel, Faith No More, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Kenickie, Low, Lullaby For The Working Class, Machine Head, Billy Mackenzie, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails, Paradise Lost, Pavement, The Prodigy, Radiohead, Rammstein, Samiam, Snot, Strapping Young Lad, Teenage Fanclub, Tindersticks, & Yo La Tengo.Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1xtkvukpolmGURUNJTQc5n?si=efff4c4045d84620Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

One of Britain's finest comedy talents from starring in Little Britain with David Walliams to Shooting Stars with Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer it was our pleasure to welcome Matt Lucas onto the show. INTERLOPER! We have an interloper in the podcast! It's Sean Corse of Famicom Dojo and Two Boobs Watch the Tube fame, here in the spirit of Nerd & Tie unification. This episode we're looking at the Unification trilogy, a multi-part story that spans multiple Star Trek series and over 800 years! First up, Picard and Data go to Romulus to hunt down Spock, who might have turned traitor! We also have Riker chatting up a multi-armed widow and a junkyard guy who has way too many face-folds. Then, we fast forward to Discovery in their grimdark future era and while unifying the Romulans and Vulcans is a good thing, this is actually still all about Michael. A Journey Through the Best Bits - Compilation 2
In this episode we welcome Fast Show legend Simon Day to downtown Hammersmith and ask him about his musical passions and the immortal Life Of Rock With Brian Pern. We start with our guest's misspent youth in south-east London, where he frequently saw bands such as Dr. Feelgood and local lads Squeeze and even fronted his own punk combo Simon & the Virgins. We hear about his early days on the standup circuit and his close associations with Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer and the gang that coalesced around The Fast Show. From there we discuss the genesis of his "prog'n'roll" alter ego Brian Pern and his affectionate lampooning of Peter Gabriel. Clips from a 2003 audio interview with Steely Dan prompt an in-depth conversation about Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker. During this, Simon tells us how he first fell for the arch duo and we collectively compare notes on some of the group's greatest songs and albums. After a brief mention of featured writer Dorian Lynskey and his new book Everything Must Go, Mark quotes from newly-added library pieces about Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx and Beatles hairdresser Leslie Cavendish before Jasper talks us out with his thoughts on M. People's Heather Small and a particularly cantankerous Van Morrison. Many thanks to special guest Simon Day. Pieces discussed: Genesis Doing The Foxtrot, Genesis: No "Pale" Imitation, Seventies prog rockers Genesis are back, but are they welcomed?, All Apologies: Brian Pern, Steely Dan audio, Wayne Robins on the RBP podcast, Pete Seeger, Kendrick Lamar, Why do pop stars fall for conspiracy theories?, Dorian Lynskey on the RBP podcast, Mötley Crüe, Beatles hairdresser Leslie Cavendish, Elvis, The King Remembered — An oral history, Heather Small: Proud, Los Campesinos!, and A duel with Van Morrison.
Shaun and Ben are honoured to be invited into Jim and Nancy's back garden for a chat about their birds, paintings and 1980/90s Coronation Street. "Ribs and Pipes and Penises (oh my!)" Our voyage of re-disc-overy continues, as we tackle a most unusual release; the one that was out in the US before the UK, and that Young Cappsy managed to review before Young Ian for once. We rake over this bitterness as well as embarking on not one, not two, but three commentaries, forgoing the tradition of focusing on one big extra in favour of covering a handful of little bitty ones, the regular features that would otherwise be glossed over. Once again, we ensure that every single aspect of the release is discussed, and along the way we re-evaluate Hattie Hayridge's return to the role of Holly, try to get to the bottom of why the cast commentaries are so difficult to get through, and attempt to comprehensively solve the issues of both war and racism.Show notes Contemporary reviews from Cappsy, Ian and Ian again. Tommy Cannon was one half of the legendary comic double act, Cannon and Ball, until his friend and partner, Bobby Ball's sad death in 2020. Tommy and Bobby went on to make their own games show, appeared in the fifth series of I'm a Celebrity, Shooting Stars with Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves, Last of the Summer Wine, on the Kenny Everett Television Show, and appeared together in a Christmas Special of Lee Mack's BBC comedy, Not Going Out. Waffle On about Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer Hello and welcome to our Christmas edition and its a bumper bonus episode full of fun and Waffles. On this episode Meds and Kell chat away about two of their favourite comedians (and light entertainers) Vic and Bob. They hit our screens back in the late 80's and our two Wafflers were in sixth form at school at the time (and nothing seems to have changed in their childish minds) so it left a lasting impression. Along with the main topic of chat the lads talk about the new Avatar film, some recent movie news and they read an email from our resident man in the asylum Rob K. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
We enter on the boiz discussing Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's iconic BBC panel show Shooting Stars, a program that introduced the world to Matt Lucas and Mark Lamarr. While trying to keep their heads above water, Tim and Guy are informed of the exciting future of Mattress Pikelet King's 'And Just Like That' series and the fact that Paul Blart Mall Cop 2's Neil McDonough is on TikTok now. The pair (Tim and Guy, not Neil and TikTok) have been working on spelling and porn respectively and gently guide any interested parties to a live show in Auckland to celebrate the success of the Did Titanic Sink? If you're reading this then there's a decent chance that at some point in your childhood or early adulthood you sat down on a Friday night and enjoyed the feast of mechanical violence that was Robot Wars. For older Millennials and young Gen Xers watching this show went hand in hand with being a Red Dwarf fan, not least because the host was, from series 2 onwards, Craig Charles himself. And it's for that reason Robot Wars qualifies for our series of 'Dwarf-adjacent' commentaries as we seize with both hands the opportunity to talk at length about a show very dear to our hearts for... quite a long time.Show notes Christopher Wickham's Ludicrously Niche blog posts on Robot Wars. Yes, there was a Robot Wars Celebrity Special in which Vic Reeves operated Diotoir, and yes it's on YouTube. Ant from Behemoth has a little strop. That time Jeremy Clarkson was nearly decapitated. Craig's other '90s technology-based game show gets the G&TV treatment. Every Craig Charles outro poem, Part 1. Aaaaaand, here's Part 2.

Adam talks with British comedian Bob Mortimer.Hi. Adam Buxton here with some notes about Bob and this episode. For nearly 30 years Bob and his comedy partner Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves) have stuck doggedly to what makes them laugh whether mainstream audiences get it or not, with shows like ‘The Smell Of Reeves & Mortimer', ‘Bang Bang It's Reeves & Mortimer', ‘Catterick', and ‘House Of Fools' as well as the occasional reboots of the massively popular panel show ‘Shooting Stars' and the show that introduced them to the world in 1990, ‘Big Night Out'. Consistently and inexhaustibly joyful, energetic and absurd, their parade of characters, silly voices, home made props and a sensibility that is often close to avant garde performance art, has made them two of the best loved and most influential comedians the UK has ever produced. When not working with Jim, Bob enjoys watching football. He's an avid supporter of Middlesbrough FC and is currently the co host along with comedy writer Andy Dawson of the vaguely football themed podcast, ‘Athletico Mince'. It's up with the funniest stuff Bob's ever done.My conversation with Bob, took place in the London office of his agent and for a while we had to battle with some quite loud talkers in the corridor outside doing agent business (I was too weedy to ask them to be quiet), but that calmed down after a little while and we rambled about getting older, the TV shows that Bob enjoys, his new fishing show with old friend and fellow comedian Paul Whitehouse, music, petty crime and now and then we looked back over a few Vic & Bob moments from the last 30 years. It was a fun conversation that often revealed a softer and more gentle side to Bob than people might expect. It's a good bet that he would feel quite deeply nauseated by that last sentence and perhaps a few before too. Thanks to Séamus Murphy-Mitchell for production support and Matt Lamont for additional editing.
