TODAY ON THE PODCAST 6:54 - ARE YOU WEARING MATCHING BRA AND UNDIES?!
How many times have you gotten to the meeting but your pitch fell flat? You went in guns blazing, thinking the hard part was over and you'd land the deal—but instead you face-planted. It's not your product or your pricing. It's your messaging that's failing you—and blocking you from a sale. A Framework to Tap Into Your Prospect's Pain So what's missing? A framework that actually speaks to your prospect's pain, builds urgency, and moves them toward a ‘yes.' As The Sales Gravy Podcast guest Mike Malloy points out, the PASTOR messaging method can solve that disconnect. You tap into your customer's pain points and you close. The PASTOR Method Created by renowned copywriter Ray Edwards, the word “PASTOR' is about guiding your prospect through the process with messaging that grabs attention and prompts action. As a salesperson, you lead your potential client toward a solution. True sales relationships aren't forced—it's natural and authentic. You're not stereotypically pushy or desperate. You have the magic answer to a customer's problem. Think of it like leading a prospect down a sales path where they see the problem clearly, understand the solution, and feel confident saying ‘YES' to a deal. P - Problem & Pain An eventual ‘Yes' stems from pain—pain from stalled business, lost revenue, or missed quotas. Until you unearth the problem, there's no need for you or your solution. Translation: No sale. Your job is to identify the pain point and get your prospect to acknowledge that, yeah, it's ruining their business, too. Don't gloss over the pain—lean into it. Show you understand. Your understanding will connect with the customer and start building your relationship—a relationship that leads to closing. A - Amplify the Consequences Don't be afraid to twist the knife. This isn't just a little problem. It's debilitating. It's costing the customer time and money. It's a huge pain point. What will the prospect's life be next quarter, next year, if they don't solve it this minute? How much worse will it get? Fear of loss is a powerful motivator. Prospects need to feel the urgency to fix the problem now. S - Story, Solution, System This is where you offer the solution—but don't just drop a pitch. Tell a story. Give your prospect an example that they can hold on to and that helps them connect. Tom's sales team was floundering. They couldn't make quota. Then they found our [your service]. Jill's company needed a new distributor. Her current distributor was often late, goods were damaged and it was hurting her bottom line. Then she learned about [your service]. Make it clear that hiring you isn't just smart—it's the game-changer they've been looking for. Show them you get it. Lay out a clear, systematic solution that wipes out their pain—once they see you've got the answer, the deal's as good as closed. T - Transformation & Testimony And what does it look like when all that pain goes away? Paint the picture. You highlighted all the real and future pain not hiring you would cause. Now, tell your prospect what life will be like after they embrace your solution. People don't buy products—they buy results. They need to see exactly how they'll save time, make money, and come out ahead. Show them the win, and they'll say yes. This is also where you leverage testimonials to build credibility. Personal accounts from past customers who can bolster your position. When they believe others have succeeded, they'll trust they can too. They'll be signing with you before you know it. O - Offer Your offer isn't just about price—it's about making the value so clear that saying 'no' feels like a mistake. Remove any friction to the deal by emphasizing the ease of transition and fast onboarding. Your offer needs to entice with solid, actionable steps to cutting out their pain points. There's no room for waffling here. Outline the ROI clearly and make it simple, easy,

Oh-h My-y God, we've got an EXTREMELY special episode at long last! As only the Super Star books can, BRUCE'S STORY brings you a ridiculous Sweet Valley Saga from the POV of one of its richest and least likable characters. Bruce Patman (or, if you prefer, "Pac-Man") sits at the center of this one, looking really dumb but in a way that's unsettlingly...endearing? Maybe? STRANGE BEDFELLOWS co-hosts and past chaos-agent guests Jack Shepherd and Tanner Greenring are back to help us see the real Bruce at last.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Hey Scaredy Cats. Welcome back to the Haunted Library and our seven day countdown to Christmas. Each day we'll be featuring a spooky ghost story that is perfect to listen to as the nights grow cold and dark. In fact, today marks the Winter Solstice, the day of the year with the fewest hours of daylight. That makes it the perfect reason to read scary stories (if you need a reason, that is!). In an article in the Globe and Mail, Jessica Duffin Wolfe writes “perhaps nothing is more Christmasy than ghosts. They toast the home, condense memory and signal the pleasures and frustrations of guests and hosts. Plenty of carols remind us that Christmas is a festival of the night, and the dead too come home for the holidays.” THE OLD NURSE'S STORY by Elizabeth GaskellContact/Follow UsEmail: scaredycats.podcats@gmail.comTwitter: @CatsScaredyInstagram: @scaredycatsthepodcastHive: @scaredycatsthepodcastTwitchYouTubeSupport the show

For this week's episode, I wanted to get back-to-basics and give you the nuts and bolts explanation of who I am and my philosophy of writing persuasive, direct-response copy. I had done this already for someone else's podcast back in 2018 as a guest host. That someone was the great Jeff Goins, and he gave me permission to use that audio for this week's episode. I have a ton of respect for Jeff and the work he puts out, so if you're not familiar with him, I recommend you check out his blog, best-selling books and podcast. You'll find the links below. If you're a regular listener of my podcast, this week's content will seem familiar, but I encourage you to jump in for a succinct review of the copywriting process; specifically, the P.A.S.T.O.R. framework. Week 2 Community – Dave Ferguson – Community Christian Church, Chicago, ILAs Christians, we were made to be in community. The enneagram paired with scripture and a coach can yield jaw dropping healing moments in the life of a PTSD patient. How can we use the enneagram as a tool in our ever- growing tool kit? In this bonus episode, Amy shares her experience working with an enneagram coach—gaining awareness and continuing to heal—healing that doesn't make sense. Awareness is essential to healing, understanding the blueprint of how God made us can change everything. Paying attention to trauma, leaning into the pain, and choosing resources to help us heal is the way through. We hope to provide a little of that for you in this episode. We all have core fears, and desires. Most of us have received wounding messages at one point in our lives. Most of us have realized our deepest fear at one point in our lives. While both of these often start in childhood, they can come at any time, and that leaves us living in our worst fears, and not the best versions of ourselves, or who God made us to be. Often our behaviors are driven by these things. Our coping styles (or lack of coping styles) often originate with our core need not being met and/or the realization of our core fears. The Wednesdays With Watson podcast has a genesis of Amy sharing her journey with. PTSD. This is one of those episodes, may you find Hope in the healing story, what can actually happen when we pay attention to how God made us?
ANDREW MCCARTHY. (St Elmos Fire, Weekend at Bernies, Pretty in Pink, Mannequin) Called into the show to chat about his new book - BRAT: AN 80’S STORY.
Susan's guest, Paul Furiga, author of Finding Your Capital S Story, opens this episode telling us, "In the old days before smartphones and Twitter, I would say that a small S story is something you read in the newspaper, and it's in the bottom of the birdcage tomorrow. Now we don't read newspapers that much anymore. What we do is we look at our Twitter feed and then we swipe that story away. So it's the same thing. The point is that the stories that we consume most of the time, don't rise to the level of answering the most important questions about your organization. That's why we created this term called the capital S Story. And the capital S Story is a story above all other stories that answer these questions. Why somebody would buy from you, work for you, invest in you, or partner with you. These questions get to the very nature and character of your organization. And that's why your capital S Story is a story above all others. Join them for a continuing discussion of why your story drives your brand.

Hear about his love of islands and adventures, his aversion to unnecessary back-stories, and his childhood experience of telling stories around the dinner table. 25 minutes. All ages. A full transcript is available at CabinTales.ca. Show Notes [0:00] Intro [1:25] Interview with Tim Wynne-Jones CA: There are some writers who do all sorts of exercises and they feel like they have to know everything about their character's past… TWJ: It really is like being at a party. You start talking to somebody. … And then suddenly they start telling you their life story. And the first thing you're going to do is start edging back towards the guacamole… [4:05] CA: And then with setting, if you're using a real place do you like gather maps and work out your setting? TWJ: Yeah…. In a made-up landscape, for instance in The Emperor of Any Place -- that's an imagined landscape – well, I had to do tons of research on what kind of flora and fauna there is in that part of the Pacific Ocean. … I love that kind of research. … And I love maps. … I've always loved making up islands and making treasure islands. … [6:10] CA: Do you have any favorite words? TWJ: Just a million…. I mostly live for capital S Story. … But sometimes you find a book that is so beautifully written that the story … doesn't have to do an awful lot. … [7:50] CA: Do you have a favorite plot twist? TWJ: Tamar by Mal Peet… sent a chill up my back … like ‘Oh my God of course! Why didn't I see that?' [8:30] CA: Are any of your stories based on your own childhood? TWJ: The Rex Zero trilogy is definitely based on my childhood in Ottawa in the Cold War. … And my short stories. … use an element from my childhood. … [9:05] CA: You write for children and for young adults and adults. Do you think of your audience while you write? TWJ: … Sometimes I feel like I'm writing a scene for one person… And a lot of the time I'm just trying to write for myself… I can't target a book at an age group. I don't even like that term because it means like you're trying to shoot them … [11:10] CA: And you said sometimes you write just for yourself… TWJ: …There are periods when I don't have anything that I have to say. …The wonderful writer Annie Dillard has a quote about this … just leave it alone; the well is empty; it will fill from below, by groundwater. … Do something else. … I've been writing a lot of songs lately and I've really been loving it. …But when I'm in the middle of the book, the joy of being a writer, I think, really, is when you get through that first horrible difficult draft… I've done all the hard slogging. And now it's going to be equally hard but in a much more interesting and exciting way. And then, then I love being a writer, for that second draft. That's just heaven. [14:20] CA: How much time do you typically spend revising versus drafting? TWJ: Well, a lot. … [15:00] CA: I remember hearing you speak once, and you had been working on a book and then someone advised you, ‘You have to kill the father…. TWJ: … my editor, god bless her. … and she didn't need to say it more than once before I realized exactly what I'd done -- I was protecting the boy…The father would step in front of the boy in every scene … I had to kill this perfectly lovely father so that the boy was face to face with his antagonist. … [16:50] CA: … You have to have faith that… life will replenish your ideas and your stories … TWJ: Yeah…. in the Annie Dillard quote … she says … if you're writing and you have an idea for a scene that's just amazing, don't think about saving it for later. … Just use it right away and it will be replenished. … You're creating ideas by allowing these ones to get out of your head. … [18:20] CA: I think she says write as if you're dying as well, and as if you're writing to an audience of people who are dying because basically-- TWJ: It's true…. But …I have a favourite saying that the difference between adult books and children's books is in an adult book it's all about letting go; and in a children's book it's about getting a grip. … [19:20] CA: Do you have a favorite POV to write from? TWJ: The story tells me. …When I was writing Blink and Caution… I was 6 pages into it before I realized I was writing in the second person. … I write in first and I write in third and I write in second. The 8th POV I'd like to try …. [20:40] CA: Did you tell stories around the campfire as a kid…? TWJ: … The dinner table was the campfire. … And in fact, as little children …we weren't allowed to sit at the dinner table with our parents until we were interesting. … [22:30] CA: Do you have a favorite scary story or scary movie? TWJ: I loved reading Dracula, …the darkness, just pervasive darkness that moves in on the story. … I loved “Dead Calm,” an Australian movie … [24:05] CA: Do you have any phobias? TWJ: Yeah, I'm claustrophobic. … [24:55] Tim Wynne-Jones introduces himself TWJ: Hi. I'm Tim Wynne-Jones. Let's see.
