He is a beautiful dancer most notably with Vienna State Opera and Ballet however he is also a wonderful touring dancer, working in my galas and guesting worldwide. What struck me is his wonderful mindset. Despite being thrown into many parts, many roles, his mindset has stayed solid and trusting of himself. Being a Principal dancer goes far beyond the steps, there needs to be a certain head on your shoulders to be able to achieve your fullest potential as a dancer and artist. Nina was born from a small village called Bolshaya Vruda which is located just below Saint Petersburg in Russia. She was adopted at the age of three and a half years old by her American parents who then raised her in Rochester, New York. Nina has always been told that she has siblings back in Russia but it wasn't until later on after her childhood that she decided to pursue a search. With the time for her that felt right, she was able to learn more on her birth family, with the difficult circumstance surrounding her birth mother to learning about her twin sister who passed away. For Nina, since learning more on her birth family she has connected more with the adoption community worldwide, building her family tree to build more links and reaching out to others who may be going on a similar experience. She also has played a huge role with the I'm Adopted website as a writer for other adoptees. This is her story.

We had an interesting conversation with Dr. Balyasnikova, working at York University. In this special summer edition, we got together at Queen’s Park in Toronto to have a chat about educational gerontology and community-engaged research. From Russia to the USA and now Canada Dr. Balyasnikova describes educational gerontology as a subset of adult education and health science that tries to understand learning experiences at a later life. For example, how certain learning experiences affect ageing or how ageist stereotyping impacts learning in older adult learners. She is also interested in community-engaged research which is embedded in the idea of working together to inform research and we see participants as collaborators rather than subjects of study while we build relationships. She invites us to question whether participants need research or not and what form research needs to take. Additionally, Dr. Balyasnikova enjoys using various art and narrative methodologies to understand participants’ lived experiences. She uses arts-based research as possibilities for participants to express themselves and she engages participants with stories, theatre, drawing or painting as multimodal narratives. Bio Originally from Saint Petersburg Russia, Natalia Balyasnikova completed her Ph.D. in Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia in July 2019. She explores older immigrants’ educational engagement in community-based settings. Using narrative ethnographic methods, she merges traditional ethnographic data generation with the facilitation of oral, written, and multimodal storytelling. With a focus on community-based research and public scholarship, Dr. Balyasnikova works with attention to the needs of the research partners and facilitates their vision for positive change. By analyzing learning that occurs at the intersection of ageing and immigration, her work suggests new pathways of community-based curriculum and educational policy in the context of changing demographics in Canada. To call DJ Vadim a prolific performer would be a gross understatement. On an average, the selector performs 170 to 180 shows a year and has played in over 63 countries. 64 post December, of course, since he’ll be performing for the first time in the subcontinent at Magnetic Fields Festival in Rajasthan. The producer and DJ was born in Saint Petersburg - Russia (then Leningrad, USSR), raised in London and now splits his time between Berlin and New York. In 1994, Vadim founded his own independent record label ‘Jazz Fuzz’ but signed to Coldcut’s legendary indie label Ninja Tune the following year and in 2007, moved to his current label BBE (Barely Breaking Even). His music, which combines, hip-hop, soul, reggae and electronica has led him to perform with massive names in the industry including DJ Krush, Stevie Wonder, The Roots, Prince, Public Enemy, Dilated Peoples, Kraftwerk, Fat Freddys Drop, Super Furry Animals, and Paul Weller. Vadim’s sound ranges from percussion heavy rhythms and classic hip-hop to organic, soulful composition but for his exclusive mix for Wild City, the producer stuck to the accessible sounds of reggae/dancehall combined with a heavy dose of low end infused bass and drums.
