Episode Notes Airbnb aims to focus on a lot more than short-term rentals. The company has plans to consistently launch new lines of business going forward, including those that may not be geared toward travel, writes Travel Technology Reporter Justin Dawes. CEO Brian Chesky said at the Skift Global Forum on Wednesday he anticipates launching two or three ventures annually that could eventually generate a billion dollars a year in revenue. He acknowledged not all of those ventures will be successful, but added now is the right time for the company to grow beyond the core business. Chesky also said that stays between 30 and 90 days could represent a huge area of growth for Airbnb, noting that online travel agencies wouldn't likely provide travelers that opportunity. Next, Las Vegas officials believe the city needs to host more big sporting events to help maintain tourism growth, writes Global Tourism Reporter Dawit Habtemariam. Steve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said at the Skift Global Forum the city aims to have a marquee event in the first or second quarter of each year in addition to the annual Formula 1 race. Las Vegas hosted the Super Bowl this February, which generated $1 billion in incremental economic impact. Sandra Douglass Morgan, president of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders, said the city wouldn't be the same if it stopped hosting large sporting events. Las Vegas is scheduled to host Wrestlemania and the College Football Playoff National Championship next year. Finally, Dubai is synonymous with luxury tourism. But the city is looking to rely less on its famous landmarks and celebrity campaigns in favor of what it considers a more authentic tourism experience, writes Middle East Reporter Josh Corder. Dubai Tourism CEO Issam Kazim said the city needed landmark projects and luxury hotels to attract tourists in the beginning. But he said Dubai Tourism is working to showcase the city's residents and hidden gems, citing its arts and culture. For more travel stories and deep dives into the latest trends, head to skift.com. Zack is BACK! After getting accused by his ex-girlfriend of sleeping with his mom's best friend, Zach Wilson is back on social media. The Jets are going 17-0. Former first pick overall and one of the biggest NFL draft busts of all-time, JaMarcus Russell spoke with @The Pivot Podcast . He specifically talked about new head coach Josh McDaniels and about Josh McDaniels' offensive scheme. Crosby also talked about how much the core of the team, led by Derek Carr, Hunter Renfrow and Denzel Perryman, really got the team to succeed down the stretch. Crosby also discussed the new editions to the team: Davante Adams and Chandler Jones. ESPN ranked the top quarterbacks ranked by an assortment of NFL executives, coaches and players. Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr made the Honorable Mentions list. ESPN had plenty of nice things to say about him but one executive said he "lacks toughness." Ndamukong Suh is back in the news again. Suh has been tied to the Las Vegas Raiders and Minnesota Vikings but a new report says the Cleveland Browns are back in the mix. While another report says the Browns are not. The Las Vegas Raiders have a new team president. Sandra Douglass Morgan became the first black, female team president in NFL history. Fr3d tells us what he likes to see in modern sports movies. One thing that should be done is to have more athletes in the movies. That authenticity is essential. Discussion on sports and how it relates to one's inner self. Discussion on the relationship between socio-economic power and sports; the role of women in a sense of being beacons of social justice and equity. Fr3deR1ck would love to see a movie done on the women's national soccer team. They have consistently been better than the men and are one of the best teams in the world. The story of Sarah Fuller, the young FG kicker at Vanderbilt would be a good smaller budgeted film as well. Fr3deR1ck promotes future projects he is currently working on. The inspiration for his projects flows. Sometimes it comes to him, and sometimes he goes out and looks for it.

5 Things In 15 Minutes The Podcast: Bringing Good Vibes to DEI
This week I spent time in California whitewater rafting and hiking with an old friend. There was no cell service while we were on the overnight rafting trip, and it felt great to be completely unplugged. After I returned from the solace of nature, I learned there was a parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois about 30 miles from my home. Another shooting. So much for good vibes. I wanted to unplug all over again.Friends, it sometimes feels like the world is falling apart and I run out of words. I run out of patience. Maybe you do, too. Still, I look for inspiration because of the discipline of writing this every week. I found some inspiration this morning when I learned that the winery tasting room in downtown Highland Park, run by my friend Matt Phillips, was a safe haven for 40+ parade-goers escaping the violence. In the spirit of the kindness of strangers, I share this short news story about Matt and Lynfred Winery. Any one of us may have done the same thing, but Matt did. Here are the good vibes I found this week:GE Appliances Is Working to Hire 1,000 Refugees at Its Louisville Factories by 2023Slack's Bold Bet on Training Formerly Incarcerated People to Be Tech WorkersPayPal CEO Improved Results By Investing in His Call Center WorkersHootsuite's Office Gets an Inclusive RedesignSandra Douglass Morgan Becomes the First Black Woman to Be Named an NFL Team PresidentTo learn more about Miguel Joey Aviles, visit: https://www.migueljoeyaviles.com/ Join thousands of readers by subscribing to the 5 Things newsletter. If you follow sports news, you probably know that the Las Vegas Raiders have had a bumpy few years: The city of Oakland is suing them for leaving, they've faced lawsuits and allegations of a boys club culture, their head coach resigned after his racist & homophobic emails were released, a star rookie had a horrible car crash that killed a woman… believe it or not, the list goes on. But last Thursday, the team announced their new president: Sandra Douglass Morgan, an attorney and former chair of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and the NFL's first Black woman president. Could this signal a new beginning for the team? Today, host Vogue Robinson sits down with Vegas Nation host and award-winning Review-Journal videographer Heidi Fang to talk about what the Raiders have been through, how they've displayed resilience on and off the field, and why more Las Vegans should get behind our new football team.
