See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Strange Advance founder Drew Arnott talks about touring for the 40th anniversary of their debut album Worlds Away, why Steven Tyler did NOT like the band name, bigtime encouragement & friendship from Bryan Adams, having the late Bruce Fairbairn [Loverboy, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, AC/DC] produce their first album, Scott Litt mixing their 2nd album before moving on to work with a small band called REM, memories from the Juno Awards, shooting their first video for MTV before MuchMusic even launched, why touring meant he had to learn to sing AND play keyboards at the SAME time, counting Geddy Lee and the late Neil Peart among their fans, memories of the rotating stage at the Ontario Place Forum, connections to Images in Vogue & Sweeney Todd [Roxy Roller!], and an explanation of exactly what a MELLATRON was and why it got replaced by a laptop! In this episode Raymond Gorman and Steve Mack join me to chat about Chemicrazy, That Petrol Emotion's fourth album, but we end up have a long chat about the band's entire career: forming in Derry after the split of The Undertones, moving to London, The Fast Show's Paul Whitehouse auditioning, Steve joining the band, the highs and lows of ten years together, recording Manic Pop Thrill with Hugh Jones, moving to a major label for Babble, signing to Virgin, touring the US and Europe, writing and producing Chemicrazy with Scott Litt in California, putting the soon-to-be released career-spanning Boxset together and much, much more.
On the 34 Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the highly acclaimed eighth studio album by R.E.M., "Automatic For The People." The album went to Number 2 on the Billboard charts, went 4 X platinum and sold over 18 Million copies worldwide. R.E.M. known for college music had just exploded with their last album "Out Of Time" with the help of the single, "Losing My Religion." They decided to make this new album to sound like nothing else contemporary and filled with non-R.E.M.-type songs. The result was this masterpiece filled with songs about, loss, death, mortality, transition and more. The album was a group effort with guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry using all sorts of instruments and sounds to make the music while songwriter and vocalist extraordinaire, Michael Stipe provided the moving vocals and lyrics to this essential album of the 1990's. Considered by many as perhaps R.E.M.'s best album, the album contains many of R.E.M.'s best songs, like Everybody Hurts, Man On The Moon, Nightswimming and Find The River and more. The album featured six singles and videos, which were played on MTV on heavy rotation. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 32 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Zeus' pick and this album led to the rankings changing a lot by all three ARC members. We are talking 90's Alternative Music so if you believe... This episode was first featured on our Patreon! This is my favorite episode of this seven part series for obvious reasons. It covers Nirvana and also introduced me to a bunch of other bands as well. Featuring one of my favorite people in music, Henry Rollins who gives his takes on the scene in the 80s. We hear from the producers on the construction of the songs, the fame aspect and pressures, and end on a somber note.Watch the episode: https://bit.ly/3ce8DGaThe rise of alternative rock in the USA. From its early underground days where bands like Black Flag drew inspiration from the DIY ethos of punk, Left Of The Dial traces the history of the network of fans, clubs and fanzines that sustained the scene and launched the careers of bands like R.E.M., The Pixies and Hüsker Dü. The film takes a fresh look at the explosion of the Seattle scene, culminating in the success of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' and the tragic loss of Kurt Cobain, an artist whose triumph and tragedy continues to cast an inescapable shadow.I made a playlist of the songs featured in the episode: https://spoti.fi/3qJEv9F----Get OVER 70 BONUS episodes on 90s & 00s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more movies...) and to support the show, join the PATREON for $5 a month! www.patreon.com/fashiongrungeHosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Jai @jai_stylefactoryFollow Fashion Grunge PodcastInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod
Formed at the University of Georgia in 1980, by Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Bill Berry and Mike Mills. R.E.M. Would soon become the flag bearers for the burgeoning Alternative scene in the music industry. Fueled by their love of the jangley folk-rock guitars of bands like the Byrds and the lyrical intellectualism in the words of artists like Lou Reed and Patti Smith, they soon found themselves with a whole new musical style. Signing to indie label, IRS records, the band spent the decade of the '80s releasing yearly albums and becoming one of the biggest artists in the newly found "college-rock" scene. At the turn of the decade, the band found major success with a new deal with major label Warner Music and a creative partnership with producer Scott Litt. With dozens of hits under their belt like "Losing My Religion", "The One I Love" and "Everybody Hurts" the band became one of the most popular rock bands of the decade, selling over 80 Million albums and being touted by artists like Nirvana, The Jayhawks, Coldplay, and Mazzy Star as major influences, R.E.M. have left an undeniable mark on the music world. In this episode of Influenced, we dive deep into the influences of this seminal band and their iconic sound. Follow Us Here: https://www.instagram.com/influenced.podcast/

In Part 2 of our Caropop conversation, we dive into the most famous album that Steve Albini produced, Nirvana's In Utero. Which version does he consider to be definitive? Why does he think the controversy over his mixes, with the two singles remixed by Scott Litt, was overblown and reflects a misunderstanding of how musicians think? How did he feel about creating a new In Utero mix with the surviving band members 20 years later? Also: Do fellow producers resent him for not taking artist royalties and, in theory, driving down rates? And after years of being outspoken, has Steve Albini become a mellow guy? You be the judge.
In this episode, Michael Amidei and Clifford Brooks interview Clark Hagan. Clark Hagan (www.clarkhaganproductions.com) is a Grammy award-winning Producer/Engineer with a world-class resume and a legendary mastery of the recording arts. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Denver, Clark began to master his craft as a recording engineer while working with the legendary Bill Porter whose credits include artists such as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and the Everly Brothers while at RCA from 1959 to 1964. After a short stint at Allen-Martin Productions in Louisville, Kentucky, Clark moved to Nashville where his trusted relationship with Porter provided the opportunity to work with the legendary Chet Atkins. In his time with Atkins, Clark engineered the Grammy Award Winning record in 1996 for best country instrumental and was nominated again in 1997 for a record with Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel in the same category on which he also played guitar. Clark's success with Atkins paid off and subsequently led to work with some of Nashville's top artists including Ray Stevens, Alison Krauss, Bryan White, and Jeffery Steele amongst others. In the highly competitive world of Nashville Clark continued to build relationships with such producers as Scott Litt, Tony Brown, Kyle Lehning, Billy Joe Walker Jr., Bill Schnee, and James William Guercio while also getting to work out of some elite studios such as Woodland Sound Studios, Quad, Omni, and Masterfonics. Clark has worked with other such national artists as Kenny Passarelli, Marty Haggard, and Eugene Moles along with Colorado artists such as Dave Preston, Oscar Ross, Wild Angels, Nick O'Connor, and Casey James Prestwood and the Burning Angels to name a few. Clark has also been working with the Caribou Ranch estate on the “Caribou Collection” project with artists Elton John, Billy Joel, and Chicago, and is also refurbished one of the original Caribou Ranch consoles “Olive”. Whether it be mixing, tracking, or producing, from rock to country, Clark brings his rich heritage and diverse experience to every project and is always looking for artists who share the same passion. to make great sounding records. Along with doing projects out of Macy Sound Studios, Clark is also an experienced technician and is also knowledgeable and competent tech and audio consultant.

Records. Hljómsveitin sjálf stjórnaði upptökum ásamt upptökustjóranum Scott Litt og hún var tekin upp í fjórum mismunandi hljóðverum og er tasvert frábrugðin plötunum tveimur sem höfðu komið út á undan, Out of Time (1991) og Automatic for the People (1992). Næsta plata, New Adventures in Hi-Fi, var meira og minna hljóðrituð í Monster tónleikaferðinni um heiminn. Óskalagasíminn verður opnaður (5687-123) um kl. 20 og A+B er svo að þessu sinni með Iron Maiden Gestur þáttarins að þessu sinni er Bogi Ágústsson frétamaður og fréttaþulur sem allir landsmenn þekkja. Hljómsveitin sjálf stjórnaði upptökum ásamt upptökustjóranum Scott Litt og hún var tekin upp í fjórum mismunandi hljóðverum og er tasvert frábrugðin plötunum tveimur sem höfðu komið út á undan, Out of Time (1991) og Automatic for the People (1992).

Næsta plata, New Adventures in Hi-Fi, var meira og minna hljóðrituð í Monster tónleikaferðinni um heiminn. Gestur þáttarins að þessu sinni Guðmundur Ingi Þorvaldsson söngvari í Atómstöðinni og leikari. Hann mætir með uppáhalds ROKKplötuna sína klukkan 21.00 Plata þáttarins er In Utero, þriðja og síðasta plata Nirvana, en í dag eru 25 ár síðan Kurt Cobain stytti sér aldur á heimili sínu í Seattle í Washington. Kurt var 27 ára gamall. In Utero kom út 1993 á vegum DGC útgáfunnar. Hljómsveitinni fannst metsöluplatan Nevermind sem kom út 1991 og gerði Nirvana að stjörnum um allan heim aðeins of fínpússuð. Liðsmenn Nirvana töluðu um það eftir að platan kom út og planið var að In Utero yrði mun hrárri en Nevermind og meira í ætt við það hvernig Nirvana hljómaði á tónleikum, sem hún svo sannarlega er. Upptökustjórinn Steve Albini sem gerði In Utero með Nirvana er þekktur fyrir hráleika og einfalda upptökustjórnun. Platan var tekin upp á tveimur vikum í febrúar 1993 í Pachyderm Studio í Cannon Falls í Minnesota. Skömmu eftir að upptökum lauk láku út þær fréttir að útgáfufyrirtækið væri ekki nógu ánægt með plötuna, hún væri of hrá og ekki líklehg til vinsælda og mikillar sölu. Bandið neitaði þessu en þrátt fyrir það var ráðinn maður (Scott Litt upptökustjóri R.E.M.) til að endurhljóðblanda nokkur lög plötunnar, t.d. All Apologies og Heart-Shaped Box sem voru mestu útvarps-lög plötunnar. Steve Albini vildi ekkert gera meira fyrior upptökurnar en hann var búinn að gera. Þegar platan kom út fór hún beina leið í fyrsta sqæti bandaríska vinsældalistans og fékk mjög góða dóma almennt. In Utero hefur í dag selst í meira en 15 milljónum eintaka.
