International Progressive Rock band Nine Stones Close, with members from the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and the Netherlands, will release their second album of the year, “Adventures in Anhedonia,” on November 07, 2024, via  FREIA Music. This new release follows “Diurnal,” which garnered critical acclaim upon its release in June. “Adventures in Anhedonia” is a deeply personal album, lyrically reflecting on the mental health and well-being of individuals, based on the personal experiences and traumas of guitarist Adrian Jones. Adrian shares: “It really reflects what's been happening to me over the past years, the effect it's had on me, and how I have tried to deal with some of it.” Musically, the album takes a distinct direction from “Diurnal,” capturing the emotional weight of the lyrical themes while still maintaining the signature Nine Stones Close sound. Yes, this is our last foray into the 'Dark Side of the 90s' Vice series. In keeping with the total and complete theme of FG itself, we just had to talk more about the birth of the Seattle sound and Sub-Pop records. This episode focuses more on the independent label scene and just how corporations really tried to ruin everything. At least there is a silver lining in the fact that Sub-Pop is still kicking as a label and has become a cultural touchstone to the city of Seattle. This episode talks to Bruce Pavitt (Sub-Pop co-founder), Charles Peterson (photographer), and others to get a more complete picture. Link to watch the episode: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x83x9km*first on Patreon March 2022----Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the  Patreon! Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Jai @jai_stylefactoryFollow Fashion Grunge PodcastFind more Fashion Grunge on LinktreeJoin me on Substack:  The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletter☕️ Support Fashion Grunge on Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fashiongrunge

The time has come. I finally recorded an episode on my own. A first time here on the show. It was hard deciding although I did do an internet poll and  'top music videos of the 90s' won. This took me a while to get in the mood to do but I selected these videos not really as random but as a good representation of all these varying types of narratives that I loved in videos during my teenage years. I did some behind the scenes research and cruised some message boards to dig deeper. I basically talk about what these meant to me at a time when the art of the music video meant so much.Watch the music videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBOB4Hahu9llH-Gw2dGTjWMiiGt0_I4T1&si=M0-mgRBOJCaV85HY on Spotify : https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5dZ1Pt0xNpCY82KoJUzXIn?si=a38090cbad2e40bb--- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the  Patreon! GIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE!Host: Lauren @lauren_melanie Follow Fashion Grunge PodcastSubstack The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletterInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod

For such a fun and chaotic band, No Doubt was always a safe space for Gwen Stefani. The flexibility in the band's style and sound paired with Stefani's undeniable star power as front woman of the group meant that you could be forgiven for thinking that Gwen Stefani the artist, and No Doubt the band were interchangeable.  In an alternate timeline - No Doubt could have carried on through the 2000s and beyond with hit after hit - but artists rarely play it safe; it's part of the reason we love them so much. After playing the Super Bowl in 2003, and releasing a solid No Doubt Greatest Hits collection, the iron was hot for Gwen to move forward with what MTV initially reported as an intended ‘fun little dance record' - a hiatus from the band that would let Stefani Flex her creative muscles a little bit… but nothing too serious. Initially she was even hesitant to call it a solo project at all! Love. Angel. Music. Baby. or L.A.M.B. was released on November 12, 2004 - after a painstaking year of writing and recording with everyone from Linda Perry, to Andre 3000, to Canada's Chantal Kreviatzuk, and even her No Doubt Cohort Tony Kanal.  From the get-go Stefani was intentional, but open. She wanted control, but to be free - and it seemed like her artistic vision wasn't always the easiest to nail down. Even after recording more than 20 songs for the project, Gwen felt as if she was yet to nail down her 'attitude song'. A chance reconnection with Pharell Williams and an uncalled for diss in the media by a Grunge Music legend was about to change all of that. This is the True Story of Gwen Stefani's 'Hollaback Girl'. Fight the Powers That Be!In my discussion with Dr. Devin Singh, an Associate Professor of Religion at Dartmouth College, we locate our conversation at the epicenter of history, religion, politics, and economics and go for it. More than the nonsensical political debates of today that have become an exercise in the polemics of the absurd, we take a deep dive into the underpinnings of our current systems that are based on religious doctrine and teachings born from the beginnings of Christianity. Much of the tension that we feel today between Church and State, Economics and Religion, Spirituality and Religion can be traced back to the origins of how the founders of the Church decided that we would interact with and practice our belief in God, Jesus, and Faith. And to make sure that the conversation didn't get too heady, we explore Devin's work as executive coach in his business Leadership Kinetics and look at the importance of movies like the Breakfast Club, Grunge Music and the early days of Hip Hop and Rap as cultural signifiers of the angst of what it meant to grow up as Gen Xers. Angst that persists today with what we could term America's Forgotten Generation – those of us who are saying goodbye to our 40's and embracing life into our 50's. The Latch Key Generation. In our joyfully intense back and forth that sometimes felt like a good tennis match and less like a “podcast,” we peel back the layers to reveal Devin the man. Who moved around often as a child. Who witnessed and experienced violence growing up. Who was in search of finding for himself answers to some of the greatest existential questions we all face – Who am I? What is my purpose on the planet? How do I heal the brokenness within me?Two quotes from Devin that sum up the nature of our conversation: “In reality there's always something that is given up in order to choose a certain path.” and “There's beauty to encounter in the world. There's beauty to experience and wanting to experience that and wanting to seek that out.”Devin on IG Patrick's WebsitePatrick on FacebookPatrick on IGAt the Podium on IGPatrick on LinkedIn For more information contact Patrick at patrick@patrickhueyleadership.com

We hear from the producers on the construction of the songs, the fame aspect and pressures, and end on a somber note.Watch the episode: https://bit.ly/3ce8DGaThe rise of alternative rock in the USA. From its early underground days where bands like Black Flag drew inspiration from the DIY ethos of punk, Left Of The Dial traces the history of the network of fans, clubs and fanzines that sustained the scene and launched the careers of bands like R.E.M., The Pixies and Hüsker Dü. Episode 15 is a very bittersweet one.  I am sad yet proud to share a celebration of life for my Nina, Rosemarie Sullivan, who passed March 23.  It is a refection of the amazing person she was, with some funny moments as well.  It is meant to bring back good memories of loved ones for anyone who has lost those who meant so much.We take a Road Trip to one of New England's most spectacular islands.  Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island might only be 1/4 the size of Nantucket but it has so much to offer visitors. On April 8, 1994 Kurt Cobain was found dead.  Though not the only superstar to come from Grunge music he was christened by many as the voice of a generation.  What happened to Grunge when he was gone?  What is the legacy of Nirvana today? I share my memories of where I was that day. This Week In History includes the unveiling of television for a group of awestruck reporters, a change in fight plans for Rocky Marciano, and more including a Time Capsule coinciding with the anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. You can also catch new episode of the podcast on Lemonadio.com radio, Saturday's at 3pm! It is universally known that the phrase refers specifically to extreme weather events events and ocean/seismic activity.
