Gayle Levant is a remarkable musician. She has been a superstar harpist in records, television and film for more than 60 years. She's played at the Academy Awards show for the past 31 years. Listen to this list of just a few of the artists she's performed with: Liberace, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Julie Andrews, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Lady Gaga and Paul McCartney. She's Barbra Streisand's harpist. And most impressive, she once played the harp on a floating boat at a Las Vegas restaurant. And she heads up the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers, the first woman to do so.My featured song is “Because She Said So” from the album Play by my band Project Grand Slam. fWotD Episode 3150: The Getaway (1972 film) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Friday, 19 December 2025, is The Getaway (1972 film). The Getaway is a 1972 American action thriller film based on the 1958 novel by Jim Thompson. The film was directed by Sam Peckinpah and written by Walter Hill, and stars Steve McQueen, Ali MacGraw, Ben Johnson, Al Lettieri, and Sally Struthers. The plot follows imprisoned mastermind robber Carter "Doc" McCoy, whose wife Carol conspires for his release on the condition they rob a bank in Texas. A double-cross follows the crime, and the McCoys are forced to flee for Mexico with the police and criminals in hot pursuit.Peter Bogdanovich, whose The Last Picture Show impressed McQueen and producer David Foster, was originally hired as the director of The Getaway. Thompson came on board to write the screenplay, but creative differences ensued between him and McQueen, and Thompson was subsequently fired, along with Bogdanovich. Writing and directing duties eventually went to Hill and Peckinpah, respectively. Principal photography commenced February 7, 1972, on location in Texas. The film reunited McQueen and Peckinpah, who had worked together on the relatively unprofitable Junior Bonner, released the same year. The Getaway premiered December 19, 1972. Despite the negative reviews it received upon release, numerous retrospective critics have reevaluated the film positively. A box-office hit earning over $36 million, it was the eighth highest-grossing film of 1972, and one of the most financially successful productions of Peckinpah's and McQueen's careers. A film remake of the same name starring Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger was released in 1994.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:56 UTC on Friday, 19 December 2025.For the full current version of the article, see The Getaway (1972 film) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Matthew.

What's a 1031 exchange and how can you use it to make money in real estate? In this episode of Retail Retold, Chris Ressa sits down with 1031 exchange expert David Foster to demystify one of real estate's most powerful wealth-building tools. David, a seasoned Qualified Intermediary (QI), breaks down how 1031 exchanges allow investors to legally defer capital gains taxes when selling and reinvesting in real estate. From common pitfalls (don't call after the sale!) to best practices and market trends, David shares insider knowledge gleaned from decades of experience and thousands of transactions.Takeaways:A 1031 exchange allows investors to defer taxes on profits from real estate sales.Qualified intermediaries (QIs) are essential for facilitating 1031 exchanges.Documentation and compliance with IRS regulations are critical in 1031 exchanges. The best time to involve a QI is when a property is under contract for sale.Costs for QIs are generally reasonable and vary by location.Market conditions can significantly impact the effectiveness of 1031 exchanges.Investors should be aware of depreciation and its impact on taxable gains. The 1031 exchange has historical roots in supporting agricultural growth.Strategic asset selection is key to successful 1031 exchanges.Over-leveraging can lead to challenges in executing a 1031 exchange.Chapters00:00 Introduction to 1031 Exchanges04:57 Understanding the Role of a Qualified Intermediary09:32 The Process of a 1031 Exchange14:42 Cost and Value of 1031 Exchanges19:14 Market Trends and 1031 Exchanges24:19 Challenges and Lessons from 1031 Exchanges27:02 Fun Questions and Conclusion
In this episode, we speak with songwriter Sean Hosein, whose credits appear on two standout tracks from Talk on Corners: “Queen of Hollywood” and “Love Gives, Love Takes.”Sean shares the remarkable and surprising story of how these songs first came to be. From writing sessions in L.A. with Glen Ballard and Elliott Wolff to a connection through David Foster's sister, Sean explains how demos written years earlier ended up becoming key tracks on The Corrs' multi-platinum album—without him ever meeting the band.We also hear about Sean's early journey into songwriting, the grind of breaking into the publishing world, and the creative process behind co-writing with heavyweights like Steve Kipner. He gives behind-the-scenes detail on the writing and demo sessions, including how “Queen of Hollywood” was originally built around a much heavier, guitar-driven track, and how “Love Gives, Love Takes” came together in a day at a North Hollywood studio.Packed with great anecdotes, industry insight, and a behind-the-scenes look at the global rise of Talk on Corners. At 00:18:19 you can hear a clip of the backing track originally created for the song that would become 'Queen of Hollywood'.At 00:25:16 you can hear a clip of the backing track for the song that would become 'Love Gives, Love Takes'.Special thanks for this episode go to Dane DeVillerThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.CorrsCast.comInstagramTwitterFacebookDiscordPatreon#CorrsCast on social media.#TheCorrsPlease subscribe, rate and review CorrsCast on iTunes or a platform of your choosing. Early in 2024 more than 2,000 people showed up to our Nordstrom store on 57th Street in New York. Not for a celebrity fragrance launch. Not for a new shoe drop. But for a live taping of a podcast. And it wasn't The Nordy Pod. It was a podcast called The World's First Podcast, hosted by our guests for this episode, sisters Sara and Erin Foster. But to be honest, their podcast isn't even the main reason we've invited them to be on our show. The Foster sisters have had an incredibly diverse career in seemingly disparate industries. Daughters of legendary music producer David Foster, Sara and Erin grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by celebrity and showbiz. They found opportunities in the early 2000s acting in film and television, which Erin parlayed into comedy writing, and they both eventually built on to begin co-producing projects like a reality TV spoof based loosely on their own lives, called Barely Famous, and more recently the Netflix show Nobody Wants This starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. Aside from that they've had notable success investing in tech companies like the widely used dating app Bumble, and in 2019 launched a venture capital firm called Oversubscribed Ventures that focused on early-stage, disruptive technology startups. But what really makes them relevant in our world is their entrance into the contemporary fashion retail space. Born from a playfully snarky one-off t-shirt designed with the words Favorite Daughter, Erin and Sara have built and grown an impressive women's clothing brand that totally fits their personalities, and that purposefully and unapologetically aims to round out their wardrobes. The brand stands out from the crowd without chasing trends or leveraging fast fashion, but rather by producing clothes that customers actually want to wear—and at a price point that's actually accessible. In this conversation we explore the trappings of their celebrity-adjacent upbringing, how the effects of nepotism have impacted their journey for better and for worse, and how Favorite Daughter has become one of the hottest new brands on the Nordstrom sales floor. Thanks for tuning in to episode 89. We hope you enjoy it! Did you know that YOU can be on The Nordy Pod? This show isn't just a one-way conversation. We want to hear about what Nordstrom looks like through your eyes. Share your Nordstrom experience, good or bad, by giving us a call and leaving a voicemail at 206.594.0526, or send an email to nordypodcast@nordstrom.com to be a part of the conversation! And be sure to follow us on Instagram @thenordypod to stay up to date on new episodes, announcements and more.
