Happy Birthday to friend of the show Susan Cowsill - and good luck on the Happy Together tour!
Two artists who have left an indelible mark on American music are, in actual fact, a married couple with a brand new album on the verge of dropping. The Bangles' Vicki Peterson and The Cowsills' John Cowsill join us! Differences between these two abound: New England vs. Southern California origins, 60s family pop vs. 80s girl-band rock, drums vs. guitar; but the parallels are even more striking....Both Vicki and John were raised by Top 40 Radio, they began performing very young and played in extraordinarily influential bands with their siblings. And so importantly, they share the honor of touching audiences with music that became lifetime soundtracks. Their new collaborative album, 'Long After the Fire' (including the about-to-drop-on-March 21st-single, 'Is Anybody Here') features covers of songs written by John's late brothers, Billy and Barry Cowsill. It was an uphill battle to acquire the rights to license the music, but thanks to Vicki's tenacity and their producer's rich industry knowledge, Vicki and John have leaned the expanse of their talent and exquisite harmonies into this very personal project.Vicki tells us about her rock stardom ride with the Bangles and John shares his early worries that having entered professional show biz at the age of seven, his career chose him and therefore the subsequent attention often felt embarrassing. We also talk about, 'Family Band: The Cowsills Story', a documentary that Weezy made about the Cowsills. We discuss John's time with the Beach Boys, Vicki's collaborations with her sister-in-law, Susan Cowsill and Vicki and John give each other the business with the well-earned nicknames, ‘Child Star' and ‘Rock Star'. Plus, we have a round of IMDB Roulette for the ages and an exclusive, in-studio performance!Path Points of InterestVicki Peterson and John CowsillVicki Peterson and John Cowsill on YoutubeA Thousand Times Video Vicki and John on InstagramVicki and John on FacebookJohn CowsillJohn Cowsill on FacebookJohn Cowsill on InstagramJohn Cowsill on WikiJoey's SongVicki Peterson on WikiThe BanglesVicki Peterson on FacebookNorman's Rare Guitars DocumentaryViet Nam: The Way That Changed America - Apple TV
Freedy Johnston is a singer-songwriter whose storytelling and melodies strike deep chords. From the heartlands of Kinsley, Kansas, Johnston's works resonate with tales of heartbreak, alienation, and disappointment. His 1992 album, Can You Fly, won praise from none other than The New York Times, hailed as one of the finest of the year. Then came 1994's This Perfect World, produced by Butch Vig, spawning the hit "Bad Reputation" and earning Johnston the title of Rolling Stone's "songwriter of the year."Johnston's latest album, Back on the Road to You, featured collaborations with Aimee Mann, Susanna Hoffs, and Susan Cowsill, once again affirming his mastery in crafting soulful and unforgettable songs.Yet, there's more to Freedy Johnston than his music. His dedication extends to Joey's Song, a non-profit that raises awareness and funds for epilepsy research. Founded in memory of Mike Gomoll's son, Joey's Song unites musicians to support this critical cause. Johnston's heartfelt contributions underscore his commitment to wielding music as a force for good.Appleton based musician/animator/historian Frank Anderson acted as our special guest co-host for the interview. Susan Cowsill was the kid sister of the family band the Cowsills, and she made an indelible impression singing “and spaghetti'd!” on the Cowsills' 1968 hit version of “Hair.” Jump to the 1990s, and she was singing and, for the first time, writing songs in the indie supergroup the Continental Drifters, which also included her friend Vicki Peterson of the Bangles and Peter Holsapple of the dB's. With the Drifters having a resurgence with a new book and compilations—and with Susan still performing with the Cowsills and on her own—she takes us on a lively tour of her long, colorful career. Did she want to join the family band at age 7? How close did the Cowsills get to starring on The Partridge Family? How is singing other people's songs "like having an amusement park in your body?" And can we expect new Continental Drifters music?
Staci's guest is Susan Cowsill, the legendary vocalist known for being a child singing star in The Cowsills, her family's chart-topping group that actually inspired the 1970s TV sitcom The Partridge Family. Susan discusses the brand new book about her other long-running supergroup, The Continental Drifters on this episode, plus she remembers being on the music scene in L.A. in the 1970s (in fact, her “rock and roll nightmare” involves none other than The Runaways' svengali, Kim Fowley!), moving to New Orleans and learning to love jazz, bidding farewell to Kris Kristofferson, and much more.
Man, the Bangles had a ton of hits in the 80s. It came to an end by the end of the decade, but what a legacy. From there, guitarist and founding member Vicki Peterson took a break from the spotlight and got involved with a sort of mini supergroup called the Continental Drifters. Originally, the Drifters were made up of LA musicians looking for something to do, but their live shows were hot and their network eventually grew to about 10 members and included people like Vicki, Susan Cowsill, and Peter Holsapple among others. A fantastic book about them called White Noise & Lightning was recently published and an all-star tribute album was released last week. Vicki discusses her attachment to the Drifters and her mental state during that period as well as her history with the Bangles, their current status, and the stories behind many songs and videos. She's a legend! Enjoy! https://cooldogsound.square.site https://continentaldrifters.com http://www.thebangles.com https://www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
In the '90s, a group of legendary rock and pop artists banded together, blending inspirations, genres, influences and styles to form a uniquely collaborative sound. The Bangles, The Cowsills, REM, The dBs, and Hootie And The Blowfish were all represented in The Continental Drifters. Author and musician Sean Kelly has written the definitive Drifters tomb, White Noise & Lightning: The Continental Drifters Story and he joins us this week, along with iconic Drifter Peter Holsapple, to take us on a journey from Hollywood to New Orleans, in the late 90s, through the rich layers of alternative, folk, California pop and Americana that shaped the remarkable story of this legacy mega-group.We kick off the show with comedian and Emmy winning comedy writer Brian Kiley, who shares his experiences in the writing trenches with Conan O'Brien and Ellen DeGeneres. Brian joins us fresh from his experiences performing overseas for the U.S. military and recording his Dry Bar Comedy special. Brian will be opening soon for Fritz at The El Portal Theater in North Hollywood!Sean and Peter then offer a Continental Drifters deep dive into their origin story, their musical heritages and their founding members, including New Orleans legend, Carlo Nuccio who inspired the band's move from a weekly residency at Raji's in Hollywood to one at Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans. The Drifters quickly ascended from a supergroup to a force of nature.Peter talks about his time with R.E.M. and Hootie and the Blowfish, Sean and Peter give us an in depth look at the band's inner wiring and how their on-stage chemistry met with conflicting ingredients in the studio. The beating heart of The Drifters was always the personal bonds and when the romantic energy within the group began to shift, just like within any family, the entire group was thrown off balance.Sean and Peter relay their frustration with their record label's confusion as to how to market The Drifters, what members were seeking in contrast to their previous industry experiences, what inspired Sean to write the book, why Vermillion is Peter's favorite Drifters album and details about the brand new tribute album featuring Drifters songs performed by 25 artists including Marshall Crenshaw, Debbi Peterson and John Cowsill!Plus, Weezy is recommending, the MSNBC doc, From Russia With Lev and Fritz is looking ahead with 'What's Next? The Strange Brew - artist stories behind the greatest music ever recorded
Susan Cowsill reflects on her musical journey, from her time with the Continental Drifters to growing up as The post Susan Cowsill – Continental Drifters, The Cowsills appeared first on The Strange Brew .
Friend of the show Susan Cowsill lost a treasured family member 19 years ago in the wake of the tragic storm
Vicki Peterson wrote, sang and played lead guitar on many of the Bangles' best songs, even if they weren't the ones that made the band famous. In a smart, revealing conversation, the down-to-earth Peterson reflects on the Bangles' origins—and her desire to be in an all-female band, which soon would include her sister Debbi (a former Caropop guest) and singer/guitarist Susanna Hoffs—and the compromises and rising tensions that accompanied their success. In the aftermath of a painful Bangles breakup, Peterson—a band person through and through—joins the Continental Drifters, teams with Susan Cowsill in the Psycho Sisters and tours with the Go-Go's. The Bangles also reunite for two more albums. What lies in the future for the Bangles and Continental Drifters? What is Peterson's creative life like now? (Photo: Rebecca Wilson Studio.)

The Cowsills are the original family band - formed in 1965, they hit pay dirt with their smash, “The Rain, the Park and Other Things” in 1967. Other hits followed, including “Indian Lake,” “We Can Fly” and “Hair.” They even were the basis for the hit TV show The Partridge Family. After some time apart, the group reformed in the early 90's and has been playing and recording ever since. They've been a fixture on the Happy Together tour for almost a decade, and they just released a brand new album called Rhythm of the World last year. Now, comes A Christmas Offering from the Cowsills. Two of the songs date back to 1992, “Christmastime (Song For Marissa)” and “Some Good Years.” These two songs are joined with a brand-new, acapella version of “Winter Wonderland” - and the EP is now available digitally from Omnivore Recordings. We chat with Susan Cowsill about how Christmas is the favorite holiday of the Cowsill family, the origins of these "lost" holiday tunes, and the prospects of new Cowsill material in 2024.
Ever wonder what a music publicist does and why it seems every successful team has one? We had a great visit with the legendary music publicist Bob Merlis. Bob was head of publicity at Warner Brothers Records for 30 years before breaking out on his own as a successful independent music publicist working with stars like ZZ Top, Dion, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, it goes on and on, over a brilliant career that's still successful and thriving. Bob even escorted a young 20-something Susan Cowsill on a publicity tour promoting her singles deal with Warner Brothers in the mid-70's. The best news is Bob, as of last week, is now the publicist for The Cowsills!!! Enjoy this unique insight into a unique position in the music industry.
Guests for today are Tom SHea and SUsan Cowsill
Susan Cowsill has been a rock star since her pre-teen years, and here she talks with Dan Markus about being in The Cowsills with her mother and brothers, and being a part of the 2023 Happy Together Tour.

Today's conversation focuses on an as-yet untitled book written by musician Sean Kelly (A Fragile Tomorrow, So Sure) about an acclaimed and criminally overlooked American rock and roll band known as Continental Drifters .Formed in Los Angeles in 1991, the Drifters consist of guitarist/vocalist Vicki Peterson from The Bangles and The Psycho Sisters, bassist Mark Walton from The Dream Syndicate, Susan Cowsill of The Cowsills and also Psycho Sisters, Peter Holsapple from the dBs, Carlo Nuccio, Robert Maché, Russ Broussard and many others throughout the band's history. With Sean, I was delighted to speak with both Vicki and Mark, who go into great detail about the origins of the group, songs which comprise their 1998 studio album Vermilion, and so much more!Be on the lookout for details surrounding the forthcoming biography on Instagram! @continentaldriftersbook
It's a mixed bag this week that I think, has something for everyone. We meet 60s family band THE COWSILLS, or at least what's left of them - Bob, Paul and Susan Cowsill. The siblings have recently released a brand new album - their first in 30 years and I gotta say, it's pretty good! I have a chat with them about their lives growing up in the public eye, about being the role models for the TV show, The Partridge Family and about the reasons behind why all of the Cowsill kids always got on so well together. We also check in with a young lady who found success at the age of 27. Scottish singer, songwriter and musician, KT TUNSTALL initially gained worldwide acclaim with the song 'Suddenly I See' but as you'll hear, she's come an awful long way since then. As KT and I catch up, she's in the middle of dying her hair grey. Initially embarrassed to appear on camera, she finally agreed and I can't believe how amazing she looks. You'll have to check her out on my youtube channel. It's an intimate chat about her life, her loves and her incredible music. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa_p5zKTRrIfpAtwXVKBQVw Remember Pavlov's Dog? That 70s band who had a massive hit with the song ‘Julia'? If you grew up in the UK, Canada or Australia you just weren't cool unless you could sing every line and had the album sitting in the front of your collection. The band, although hailing from the US, didn't do quite so well at home. We go behind that song to chat with founder David Surkamp. He has some fascinating stories to tell! And who knew the band still plays and tours today? I certainly didn't. If you would like to request a guest for me to chase up and get onto the show for you, please send me an email either through my website www.abreathoffreshair.com.au or directly to sandy@abreathoffreshair.com.au As long as the artist made music in the 60s 70s or 80s I'd be very happy to have a chat and have all your questions answered. Enjoy your week! Love Sandy
The Cowsills had an incredible ride in the 1960s. A family-based band with up to 6 siblings plus their mom, they went from playing cover songs to being discovered and featured on the Today Show, which was watched by Johnny Nash of "I Can See Clearly Now" fame who then signed this all-white group of kids to his black record label. After adding their mom into the group and completely changing their musical style they had a string of hits with "The Rain, The Park, And Other Things", "Hair" and "Indian Lake". Today we get back to updates and gripes and whatnot. Our guest is Freedy Johnston a great singer/songwriter whose history matches up with the best of them. We love hearing Freedy tell the story of walking through South by Southwest in Austin, Texas and stopping in his tracks when he hears Susan Cowsill singing and what that all led to. Freedy discusses his career and his brand new September 9th album release "Back On The Road To You" which features a great song with our sister Susan called 'The Power of Love.
You remember them for blockbuster hits and songs like The Rain, The Park & Other Things; Hair; Indian Lake; We Can Fly, and the TV theme for Love American Style. This family group of children musicians took the world by storm in the 1960s and 70s. The Cowsill's life story inspired The Partridge Family TV show. The Cowsills had more chart-toppers than groups twice their age and were just amazing. They are still amazing and they are back at it. They just completed a 56-city tour across the U.S. Shelley Johnson interviews Bob, Paul, and Susan Cowsill on this episode of the Truckers Network Radio Show. The Cowsills answer a number of pop culture trivia questions, starting with "What real life family pop band inspired the 1970 television show, The Partridge Family?" They had hits with "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things"--best known for the refrain, "I love the flower girl"--and "Hair," but the experience took a toll on family members, particularly Susan Cowsill's older brothers. She was a kid along for the ride and still under 10 when it hit, but as she talks about during our conversation, her teenaged brothers with rock 'n' roll dreams had a hard time dealing with what they became. The Cowsills are a starting point for today's conversation because while Susan and her brothers worked for a few decades to establish themselves as solo artists, she regularly performs now as The Cowsills with Bob and Paul, and the three of them have a podcast now, The Cowsills Podcast. This summer, they performed on the Happy Together Again tour, and from November 1-December 10, they'll be guests on the Andy Williams Christmas Show at the Moon River Theatre in Branson, Missouri. There are musicians who might have a hard time adjusting to a Branson residency, but Susan compartmentalizes her creative endeavors. She was part of the Americana/indie pop supergroup The Continental Drifters and she still plays solo gigs in New Orleans in support of solo efforts, but after all these years, singing with her brothers remains a powerful, important of her musical life. Today we talk about the Christmas music she made and the Christmas music she loves.
Susan Cowsill of the Cowsills reflects on her memories of Hurricane Katrina, which took the life of her brother, Barry. She doesn't have closure from his death, despite his body being found, but is able to have an upbeat outlook from the experience that we could all learn from.
With an official petition to recall Mayor Cantrell gains steam, Scoot critiques the constant bad behavior as it does not match up with her self proclaimed strong religious faith. Plus, believe it or not there are fans on Cantrell, who call into the show to share their thoughts. Also, singer Susan Cowsill shares a her feeling about her brother dying in Hurricane Katrina and her experience of Hurricane Ida that hit one years ago.

Scoot talks to Susan Cowsill and Bobby Horner from the Bag of Donuts about their respective sets at the French Quarter Fest tonight
The legendary Muffs bass player, along with singer/guitarist Kim Shattuck and drummer Roy McDonald, blasted out their infectious, melodic brand of punk rock from 1990 until Kim’s passing in 2019. Cresting at the top of the Indie rock wave, they counted the Ramones, Elvis Costello, and Ronnie Spector among their fans and picked up a platinum record for their hit recording of “Kids In America.” With the reissue of 2004’s “Really Really Happy” along with Kim’s demos for that record soon to be released, Ronnie finds kindred spirits in the Troubled Men as they gather for a meeting of the minds. Topics include a camera ticket, the Iguanas/Kevin Gordon tour, a middle seat, RIP Kevin O’Day, 911 calls, dropping the masks, a record store, meeting Alex Chilton, the Pandoras in Houston, moving to L.A., starting a new band, the Coconut Teaser, a punk rock teacher, backup dancers, the ’90s sound, Green Day, Korla Pandit, the Plaster Casters, a new release, Kim’s legacy, Willie Aron, Susan Cowsill, rock’n’roll college, a New Orleans connection, “Pam and Tommy,” Tony Rugolo, guest relapses, and much more. The shows themselves have this glue of positivity, connecting all the songs, and this idea that you can do anything, and you can get through these difficult times. Some songs are so cathartic and just speak right into your heart at the right time in your life, as Rachel Cholst feels about Cowboy Mouth's classic song “Jenny Says.” Listen and learn some obscure tidbits of info about the energetic, New Orleans-based band. I know they have a reputation that it's a frat boy band, but there are a lot of people out there for whom they've done so much. And I hope that also is a part of their legacy. Cholst, a well-known freelance writer and creator of queer country music zine Rainbow Rodeo and the Adobe & Teardrops blog discusses the effect the Cowboy Mouth has had on her life, music, and social justice-focused activities with host Sloane Spencer. 90s college rock has a very specific sensibility where it's happy and sad at the same time. And when you're 12 going on 13 — yeah, that hits. Don't forget to give One Hit History a five star rating! We're real easy to find online one hit history.com or support us at patreon.com/oneHithistory. I'm talking with somebody today who is a music person that if you don't already know you should, behind some incredibly important and fascinating outlets, Adobe and Teardrops and Rainbow Rodeo the zine you definitely need to know. Rachel Cholst. Hello. Rachel Cholst 0:26 Hi. Thank you so much for having me and for that really generous introduction. Sloane Spencer 0:32 Well, absolutely. So real quick before we jump into the big question and the fun part of this, creatively, what have you been working on lately? Rachel Cholst 0:40 That is a rueful laugh. Because I've mostly been writing essays since I'm working towards my MSW. And after about five years of doing freelance journalism on tight deadlines, while working a full time job writing like a five page paper double spaced is like really nothing to me. No, but time and energy. Sloane Spencer 0:59 Definitely, definitely. So give people the quick rundown on what Adobe and Teardrops is. Rachel Cholst 1:04 Sure. So I began Adobe and Teardrops in part inspired by the band we're going to be talking about cowboy mouth around is a lyric from one of their songs Man on the Run. Yeah, that was always meant to be a space to focus on artists who were flying below the mainstream sonically, of course, I think it's sort of getting more of a resurgence. But in the early 2010s, there was a lot of crossover between punk and country that I've found really excited. But then also artists who are generally marginalized by the music industry. So women, LGBTQ people, BiPOC people then to really shine a light on those artists within the Americana world. Sloane Spencer 1:45 Definitely.

Last year, some time after Thanksgiving I had to change format and use excerpts from a few interviews to get to everybody I've talked to about Christmas music before the holiday comes. This year, I have to start now since I already have enough interviews to get to February if I ran one per show. This week, I'm talking to some of my favorite people. The Fleshtones are the long-time garage rock gold standard, and singer Peter Zaremba is always a great person to talk to about that corner of the rock 'n' roll world. Since it seems like a shrinking one, we talk about that and how their most recent single, the Spanish-language "Mi Engañaste Bien," plays into that. We talk about the bond between record collectors and, of course, their 2008 Christmas album, Stocking Stuffer. This week also features Susan Cowsill, the youngest member of the '60s family pop band The Cowsills. Susan has never stopped singing or making music, and has been part of New Orleans' music community since she moved here in the 1990s with The Continental Drifters. Cowsills memories are inevitable for her, particularly now that she and two of her brothers have a podcast of their own, The Cowsills Podcast. We talk about that, Branson, some of her favorite Christmas songs, Karen Carpenter, and the experience of recording a Christmas song for Debbie Davis and Matt Perrine's Oh Crap! It's Christmas Vol. 2. Recently, the Numero Group reissue label released the very entertaining Christmas Dreamers: Yuletide Christmas (1960-1972), and this week I talk to Adam Luksetich about the process of pulling the collection together, and how his own relationship to Christmas music affected his choices. Finally, singer Alexandra Scott returns to discuss Mariah Carey's re-entry into the Christmas music arena with her new song, "Fall in Love at Christmas," featuring Khalid and Kirk Franklin. This episode of Twelve Songs is sponsored by Car-Floats.com, which makes reusable fabric stickers for your car. We're still giving away our 2021 listeners-only Christmas mix. This 1963 album Please Please Me album track is a great example of the Beatles understanding the value in digging through record store racks for songs other bands weren't playing. "Chains," a Goffin/King song gave George Harrison a vocal spotlight on the Beatles' debut album, and a place for their impeccable three part harmonies to have a home. There's a great innocence to this track, as the band's love of R&B and girl groups shines through on this song. Maybe it's a lightweight track, but good grief it sure is catchy, and they sing the hell out of it. We're honored to have rock and roll royalty join us this week on the podcast. At the age of 8, Susan Cowsill joined her brothers and mother in the family band The Cowsills, and hit the charts with classics like "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things," "Indian Lake," "Hair," and "Love American Style." The band would serve as the blueprint for The Partridge Family in the early 1970s, but have had an amazing career of their own. Susan has the unique perspective of being on the charts at the same time as the Beatles, and has some great stories to go along with it. In addition to a busy solo career with her own music and working on other's records, she's still touring with her brothers Bob and Paul, and they can be heard this summer on the Happy Together tour, which is one of the most fun shows you can catch if you love great 60s pop and rock. They've also got their own podcast, The Cowsills Podcast, and it's a great glimpse into the fun these siblings are still having after all these years. Susan's on the the BEST voices in rock and pop history, one of the nicest people in the game, and we're so happy to have her on our show! What do you think? Too high? Too low? Just right? At the waning edge of the turbulent sixties The Cowsills topped the charts with an infectious power popped sound that was loved by kids and parents and trusted by parents because, after all, their mom was in the band! The real-life Cowsills inspired the sit-com Partridge Family but The Cowsills’ public facing talent and charm was haunted by behind-the-scenes secrets and fears. Bob, Paul and Susan Cowsill have survived and thrived and they join Fritz and Weezy to talk about their new podcast, an upcoming album and the future of the Happy Together Tour. Plus Fritz and Weezy are recommending The Keepers, The Father, Ginny and Georgia and Ricki Lee Jones’ new autobiography, Last Chance Texaco.

Some things, some people are worth waiting for. Rob Bonfiglio is certainly one. From the opening moments of the show, Rob kills the title track of his recently dropped masterful power pop CD, Trouble Again. A Philly boy, Rob takes us through the junior high school band that wasn’t, the teacher who opened the door to jazz which became Rob’s passion, Berklee College of Music, Wanderlust his first signed band, who just happened to open for The Who. Stop! He speaks of the meeting and courtship of his soon to be bride, Carnie Wilson––their early days in Philly, mmove to LA, the rebirth of Wilson Phillips with Rob as guitarist and musical director, having babies, being grossly manipulated and misrepresented on Celebrity Wife Swap, to fulfilling a long held dream to join Brian Wilson’s Band, which he did this past year, playing guitar and singing high lead Beach Boy vocals on many of the songs he’d come to appreciate as melancholy genius from the iconic Pet Sounds. A life well-lived, most impressive is the man he is. Scheduled last month, the Facebook had been down all day… we didn’t call it until moments before Rob was to jump in his car. When he commits, he shows up. Period. As proven when he headlined Women Who Write in January in spite of having a nasty cold. “There’s no illness in show bizness.” The first time I met Rob he was playing guitar for Nick Guzman’s house concert. I never would’ve guessed in that moment the magnitude of his career. This night he was a supporting player, a sideman, albeit a brilliant one, as he was at the recent Wild Honey concert, and the two before that. He’s humble and gracious… dare I say. always? We talked his early obsession with Kiss, his days in Boston and New York, Peter Asher, Ken Sharp, Mackenzie Philips (his mishpucha), Al Jardine, John, Bob and Susan Cowsill, Will Lee, Zak Nilsson, Nick Guzman, The Flower Power and '70s Rock & Romance Cruises from which he just returned and a slew of jazz greats who’ve inspired him. Rob’s before-mentioned recently dropped CD, Trouble Again, ranked #1 on Marcus Blake's Album picks for 2018 is in heavy rotation in my kitchen. Oh my lord how I love it. And him. He has mad talent, a sweet and gentle soul, and is damn easy on the eyes. Loved, loved, loved the time. Linda's was the final episode for 2018, and what pleasure to have her as a guest. In Linda's words: "Music has been at the center of my life since I can remember. Early influences include Karla Bonoff, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell: many other female singer songwriters since then have shaped my taste in music: Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris, Mia Borders, Caroline Herring, Susan Cowsill, Lynn Drury, Shannon McNally, Amy Mann and Brandi Carlile. This list is actually pretty endless--I would also have to include the Beatles, the Stones, and the women of the early blues movement, such as Memphis Minnie. I write Americana music, rooted in my life experiences. Many of my songs tell stories, and they are all different; I don't want to write in just one style--I am open to a variety of music, from country to soul. In short, I am a work in progress and I hope you like what you hear. Little Queenie was released on my birthday in 2016, and No Limits, my second album, was released in October of 2017. I am currently writing and recording songs for my next record, due out in the spring of 2019. My style continues to evolve! You can hear my songs here, as well as on Seattle Wave Radio and Local Roots Music NW Radio, available for purchase on CD Baby and BandCamp." A simple but important point is made in this interview as a recurring theme throughout all; music is for everyone and although it helps, no special skills or education are required to enjoy listening to or creating your own. But as seen below, Linda is a bit of an overachiever. EDUCATION-- Writing Fellows Institute, University of Washington, Tacoma; September - June, 2009 Adjunct Faculty Institute, Tacoma Community College; January - March 2006 Summer School for Applied Aesthetics, Lahti Finland; August 18-23, 2002 The School of Criticism and Theory, Cornell University; June 20 - July 26, 2001 The School of Criticism and Theory, Dartmouth College; June 17 - July 26, 1996 Ph. Icon Fetch talks with Freedy Johnston about how they put this unique band together, and how they used modern technology to help collaborate from long distance. He also talks about his forthcoming solo album and his breakthrough hit, 1995’s “Bad Reputation.”
The accordionist and co-founder of the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars actually came to play the instrument and Yiddish music quite by accident.
